Besides, remember the part where the mortgage loan officer said "I don't see a problem."
Remember the part where Mrs. iluv threw a long, loud fit when you tried to go to the Tri-Cities a week or two back? What makes you think that this next attempt will end differently?
Although attributed to Albert Einstein, the quote "Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results" is documented in both the Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous handbooks, which date back to the 1930's.
What'cha going to do differently this time, to get a different result?
OF, go with the Hertz gig. Many transport places make you become an independent contractor and make you call or log in the computer the night before to see if you have a gig or are on stand-by. I was tired of this kind of situation and also in the summer, it was super slow. Decided I'd rather be an employee and have a set schedule which Hertz offered. Done deal for me and almost four years later, am still there. Plan A is to retire on 12/31/18 with Plan B being ending on 12/31/19. Plan C is somewhere in between. But for now, working three days a week, around 29 hours give or take, works for me. I've tried at the car dealers for years but they see me as a guy using a cane to walk instead of a guy who can do the job and who will show up. Their loss really as I am a good employee and love coming to work. The close commute is something I am looking for because it's a 29 mile drive each way with a toll road also. When I go in, I'm staying all day to make it worth my while. As much as I'd like to work for a dealer, most are too short sighted and see me as a liability and not as the asset I truly am!! Go with Hertz. They also pay weekly, something I've never had. Having a set schedule is worth it's weight in gold so you can actually have a life, hated being on stand-by. They'd always call at the most inopportune time and work us late into the night. Just got fed up doing that and Hertz simultaneously so Hertz won out!

Since we are on ticket stories and “getting lucky” so to speak. In my younger stupider days I was on the Atlantic City expressway one evening meeting some friends at the casino.
On the way someone wanted to play so I obliged. I was well into triple digits when I saw the bogey... nailed the brakes and rolled by somewhere in the high 80s.
I immediately didn’t even wait and just pulled over and waitee for him. He actually almost passed me, guess he thought I was gonna make him chase.
Long story short. he hands me back my insurance card and said “oh, I see you are missing your insurance card”. Luckily I had half a brain and kept my mouth shut. He came back with just a ticket for that. I’m sure if I said one word about that before he left I would have received the speeding ticket and who knows what else. I can only assume that because I didnt make him chase me he hooked me up.
my daughter's boyfriend is a local cop, so she now has one of the magic "family PBA" cards in her wallet. Though she would be afraid to use it, so would stick with her old standby. Cry. Hey, a cute 5'2" blond girl can usually pull that off. Though she is quite safe locally now, since she seems to know half the local police forces (and has many names to drop). Might not help her much in NC of course.
My college GF(AKA The Beautiful Bipolar Redhead) drove like she was auditioning for Smokey and the Bandit; she only got one ticket in the three years we dated- she cried her way out of at least a half-dozen others...

I found myself in a similar situation late one night when I was younger. A group of teenagers in daddy's car did not like me passing them on an empty 4-lane, so the driver stomped on it. I replied in kind. We were up to about 95 when we went under an overpass. Cop was on the grass in the median but I noticed he was out of his car. The kid pulled over immediately. I lifted for about half a second and then figured "what the hell." I pinned it and aimed for the first exit I could find. Was up to 125 before getting off the highway. Of course, there was a light right off the exit and it was red, so I made a quick right turn. About 1/4 mile later, what do you think I saw in my rearview? Uhoh! I have no idea if it was the same cop, but he followed me with his lights off for about 5 mins. My heart was in my throat. I finally came upon a development and turned in. He kept going. Whew!

But I thought laws were enforced equally, and punishments doled out without influence. You mean there is preferential treatment? I'm shocked I tell ya!

You should also ask for the engineering study that shows the limit on said road is the optimal number. Of course, you'll never get it, as those who set the numbers (whether they be haughty "engineers" or untouchable politicos and LEOs) don't answer to you or anyone else.
I think my request for the County Seat will be my biggest advantage. Santee Sheriff's are used to going into Rubber Stamp El Cajon Courthouse, but to meet me he'll have to make his way to Kearny Mesa, home of some reasonable judges/traffic referees.

Maybe not, but I once beat a speeding ticket on that very principle---that the engineering study had not been done on that particular road for well beyond the required time span. Oh---did I mention the cop never showed up in court? All that homework for nothin' !
That was also the time I learned that Subarus were the most ticketed cars for speeding in California.

Strangely, California is progressive in the most positive ways at times (certainly not always). A while back, anti-speed trap laws and vehicle codes were written and put into law.
It basically states if the speed limit is under the 85th percentile, you are not allowed to use radar enforcement, and if you do, that's an illegal speed trap and the radar evidence shall be thrown out and therefore you can win due to lack of prosecution or lack of evidence.
My only hiccup in this is that I think 65 is the Maximum Legal Speed unless otherwise posted with 70 as the Maximum Speed Limit. So 65 is the "default" maximum safe speed in CA, at 66 cars spontaneously combust, don't you know?

I was in charge of buying a security system for our complex in Florida....there are 76 units. I gave a talk at our last board meeting to explain what they system could do. One fellow was a retired cop who worked on security cases. He got vicious that we could record things - such as him, and then that recording could be used against him one day. For example, he said, what if Mr Smith had a baby, he brought the baby into the clubhouse to change it, a camera recorded him changing the baby, one day he is charged with child abuse, the recording is presented. It seems that in a community where the public could go we would need a) a sign to indicate the property is being monitored and b) we need to have very limited access to any recorded information, and it should only be reviewed if necessary - that is not monitored at random.
I can understand that some communities may want to know who has a security system as they have become an important tool in fighting crime, and there may be certain rules you have to abide by if you have a system. Usually, there seems to be no rules in a private home....but, my guess is every community is different.

Yeh, the Hertz gig sounds like one of the better ones.
I had a friend who drove cars to a car auction and he liked doing that. I think he picked them up at dealers and brought their cars in.

Up here the cycling lobby is pushing hard for the city to reduce residential speed limits from 30mph to 20. They claim it is for "safety" but it is really just one more thing in their arsenal to make driving more painful. What's worse is that they have several captive municipal council members who think it is a good idea.
Definitely a strategy to get rid of cars in the city. Makes driving a car painful. We have two cities we can go to for groceries, restaurants, movies etc., we choose the one with fewer obtrusive bike lanes. The bike lanes have also caused a lot of small businesses to close down, people can't park near those businesses....and those businesses actually PAY TAXES to the city. I get the feeling a lot of bike riders don't pay taxes, and a lot of them don't like to follow the rules of the road. Sorry for the rant :@
And you can be darned sure the councilmembers either don't live in the areas impacted, or have nowhere to go, and would never give up cars themselves. Definitely a demographic that has a hard time practicing what it preaches (you should see them in Seattle).
The "vision zero" con seems to be a trend these days.

Yes, a lot of municipalities are adopting the Vision Zero scam, ostensibly it's goal is to reduce traffic fatalities but in practice the goal is to make driving so burdensome that no one wants to get behind the wheel.

The illustrious Mayor DeBlasio has lowered the speed limit on NYC streets from 30 - 25 mph. There are bike lanes all over the place (its is way too cold to ride between October & May). It is ridiculous.

Keep car in garage (tough in much of Limeyland where cars park in front of the house like in the video), keys in a cheap/homemade faraday cage or even in a metal box, not exposed near exterior walls.
I wonder what happens once they are away from the repeater - the car can't be restarted or something like that. But I guess if it ends up on that ship or truck for points east, no matter.
@nyccarguy it sounds like they're going to end up punting this to their insurance company to deal with. Your FIL is going to need to go after them for diminished value.

At least the dealership already admitted to DV. If nothing else he can take the dealership to small claims court. And make sure they know he plans to heavily publicize.
Actually, he should get in writing how much they lowered the the trade value by. Then sue for that.

What the cyclists should lobby for is a bicycle tax that pays for bike lanes that are separate from car lanes. Build your own lanes! Pay for it too!

Which in a sick twisted demented method helps reduce fatalities by reducing miles driven. Rates go up, hard numbers go down.
It's the same logic as saying 0 MPH speed limits are the best, since fatalities would be zero. Effectively banning automobiles.

I think people that work in the Insurance business have drank the sales and claims handling KOOL AID for far too long.
I've read some online posts (not on Edmunds) that lead me to believe these retired Insurance Claims handlers actually truly believed the non-sensible boiler plate arguments insurance companies use against DV claims.
Of course, if you present them with two identical cars to buy at the exact same price, and one has been in an accident, and one hasn't (only difference), which do you think they will choose for their own personal use?
I feel like a law should be passed that Insurance companies that don't believe in DV should be forced to ante up on that, and buy the car if the owner chooses to sell at the undiminished real world value of course. If DV is fake as they argue, then it shouldn't cost them a dime as it'll save on claim fights/court time/letters/arguing.

Well he did get use out of the car, so he could bargain that away at least and come up with a compromise. What are those miles worth?
As for repairing the car---rocker panels ARE structural.
Good story. I have 2 memorable ticket stories. Back in the 70's, in Oklahoma, my job entailed a lot of travel. Approaching a small town one day I was a little late to slow down and a State Trooper pulls me over. He went thru all the questions, etc. then told me (it was cold) to come back to his car and let me "fuss" at you a little bit. I did, and after a nice chat, he told me to slow down a little and I went on my way, no ticket. About 2 years later the same trooper stopped me in the same spot, said to come back to his car and let me "fuss" at you a little. Nice chat, moved on, no ticket. I didn't mention the first time to him.
Then about 10 years ago, after a round of golf, my plan was to stop at a barbeque joint on the way home. I was on a rural paved road, very wooded, no traffic to speak of. Rounded a curve on the outskirts of a small town and a city cop was standing in the middle of the road with his radar gun, and he flagged me over. After checking my license, etc. he asked me if I knew the speed limit, having just seen a sign I said yes, I believe it is 35. He said yes, and do you know how fast you were going? I said somewhere close to 45. He did a double take and said, so you admit you were speeding? I said yes, you got me dead to rights. He got a sort of bemused look and said well, since you are not going to argue and make excuses, be on your way and slow down...but if you had been going just a few miles faster or had argued with me, I would have had to give you a ticket.
They have a figure in mind...I found this out when my E400 was demolished. I believe if the car is valued at 60 to 80% of it's current price, it will be considered totaled Depends on insurance company and state. $7000 wouldn't be a totaled car and it looks like they can fix it....even with rocker panel damage..
I may have mentioned this before, but our citations had a box marked "ATTN" on them. If the box wasn't checked and it was a minor offense(speeding, reckless driving, etc.) it indicated that the officer didn't care what we did with the ticket. If it was checked it meant the officer wanted input into any plea and/or sentence. It helped us move things along on traffic arraignment dockets, where we sometimes had 300 or more cases- we could knock out the whole thing in under 90 minutes.

That was interesting about the Stinger...it starts at the 5:05 mark. He reviewer liked it except for the instrument panel....especially the floating media/gps screen, says it seems like they forgot about it and added it on at the last minute...which is how describe those screens. He liked the 336 hp, the way it drove and handled, the comfort....everything except the dash. They think sales could be slow as sedans aren't selling that well these days.

That was also the time I learned that Subarus were the most ticketed cars for speeding in California.

That 65 max speed talk is funny, let's go back to say 1952 or 1957 and see what it was then - progress!

I can understand that some communities may want to know who has a security system as they have become an important tool in fighting crime, and there may be certain rules you have to abide by if you have a system. Usually, there seems to be no rules in a private home....but, my guess is every community is different.

The illustrious Mayor DeBlasio has lowered the speed limit on NYC streets from 30 - 25 mph. There are bike lanes all over the place (its is way too cold to ride between October & May). It is ridiculous.

The Good: He spoke to the body shop manager who told him the parts came in and there is no structural damage to the car. Just the door and the Rocker Panel have to be replaced.
The Bad: The dealership really isn't doing the right thing. He's spoken to the sales manager and has a call into the General Manager. The sales manager seems to be treating this like any other transaction.
He told my Father-In-Law: "I can't just swap you into a brand new 2018 Outback. You have $7,000 worth of negative equity."
My FIL said: "How is that possible? I put $7,000 down on the car and have been making loan payments for 8 months."
Sales manager: "well sir, your car has a dirty CarFax."
FIL: "One of your employees is THE reason for the dirty Car Fax."
My FIL has a call into the GM of the dealership as well as Subaru Corporate (this is his 5th Subie)

I wonder what happens once they are away from the repeater - the car can't be restarted or something like that. But I guess if it ends up on that ship or truck for points east, no matter.
But on both sides there's definitely a submit and assimilate thought control movement, indeed.
It is absolutely the wrong way to do business, but whatever.

That is so wrong, and that is why I don't think insurance companies treat these situations fairly. The innocent party gets his car fixed, but, he is still out $1000s. I think it would have to go to small claims court....dealership is responsible for lost value.
It sounded like they were going to take care of it, until, they found out the cost and the new value of the car.

It's the same logic as saying 0 MPH speed limits are the best, since fatalities would be zero. Effectively banning automobiles.
Driving 404 study and class time!
Seems I'm not the only one that thinks US speed limits haven't just been outdated, but have been counter-productive to the goals of intelligent society.
As for repairing the car---rocker panels ARE structural.
