Marco, man the 2018 Kia Stinger rocks. They got the looks down pat. And, because it's a Kia, the mechanicals are not only going to be as sound as a pound, but they will move the amply-sized sedan along competently.

Whatever happened to fezo. He's here and reasonably well. Just busier amongst of projects, like getting the house as I'd like it. I'd hate to move in a couple of years and have to fix it up just so and say "this'd be great if it weren't for winter." A lot of paper tossing and finally trying to do the writing for what will be my next CD (finally!). Aiming for an August release date. Have to get more copies of the first. After all these years they're almost gone. Close to 1,000 people were foolish enough to buy it (that includes the cassette version). More to follow but I'm very much alive, as well as I ever get, and the mind (at least the creative part) is getting younger. The other part is old man syndrome. I can tell you the score of Super Bowl IV but can't remember why I walked in the room.
You’re a sight for sore eyes, fezo.  Great to know you are alive and well.  Don’t stay away that long - we get worried!   ;)

Generally it was because the guy/girl was a jackass. Crooked? How so? If any officer wanted to give their input to every plea bargain he/she certainly could- but most didn't have the time, and neither did the prosecutors, clerks, bailiffs, or judges. In my 22 years in traffic court 99% of the defendants who had the box checked conducted themselves in court in a way that validated the officer's judgment.

Cash flow has nothing to do with it- in KY, the Circuit Court Clerk gets a very small percentage of the fees and everything else goes to the state. I'd be willing to bet that the ATTN box system resulted in a LOT fewer convictions than it would have without the system.
That's the old, robbing Peter to Pay Paul Defense on revenue. The "As long as we don't DIRECTLY benefit, we are not benefiting defense." I don't buy it.

Police say that stuff all the time. Yet they seem to be given very generous and rich budgets. The government is good at laundering their own dirty money
I can tell you with absolute certainty the trial court systems in KY are never evaluated by their conviction rate; there is absolutely no incentive to convict. My goal whenever I got pulled over was to do absolutely nothing that would cause the officer to remember me in a negative light. I'd say at least 90% of officers nationwide don't care how a minor driving offense citation is resolved- UNLESS the defendant is a jerk. If a driver lacks the cognitive ability to figure that out I really don't feel sorry for them at all.

I am not sure if I can believe there would be more penalties if cops weren't encouraging judges to look at some offenders in a different light from others.

I think I mentioned this before. When I took the Genny in for a PA state inspection this past spring, I knew I would be emission exempt (5K miles or less) and I told the guy at the desk about that. After the inspection was complete he said I had only put on 684 miles (I think). In any case well under even 1K miles.

My big mistake was that I told Mrs. j about this and she said something like, "I don't want to hear anything about you getting a new car. You don't even drive the one you have". :@

I just took Mrs. j's 2012 Subie in for an inspection on Monday. She put less that 3400 miles on her car in the last year (odometer shows just over 30K). Not going to get anywhere with her about replacing that beast anytime soon either.

The way things are going @iluvmysephia1 will get at least 2 more cars before we get another one. I'm going to ask him how I should go about putting my foot down. :'(

Looks like we will be putting about 7500 miles a year on the Volt, which is good because the lease is 10k per year. Probably the same for the Encore. Now we are in the far West, anything not in California we fly to. So trips are maybe SF once a year, San Diego the same. I am really interested in the Bolt, but that makes no sense given that we paid off the Encore. So we are set for the time being. Did I mention that the Bolt is really appealing to me? :D

Then why let the LEO have a special box where he can request extra scrutiny when the case goes in front of a judge? Who allowed that in anyway?

Diversion, is that where you go to an adult driver's ed class and pay for it? Sounds like a weird make work project.

And not like it would be up for independent audit ;)

I've found Kohler to be a very helpful company when I've had faucet valves or toilet parts go bad. I called and they sent replacements gratis. Same for Delta. I buy either brand based on what the boss says I want to buy when she does with me to look.

I hope the other companies have better customer service. Why would a company charge you for a color chip? I am almost saying I am a customer ready to buy.......if you wanted to buy a new car, wouldn't the salesman do his best to give you a FREE paint chip. Some companies go the extra mile, but, I am not expecting very much, a paint chip for a customer who is almost in the bag.

If they were smart they would hire me as their marketing manager.........I would say offer free chips in your customers warehouse....so you can take it home and match it up....you might sell a few thousand more toilets every year.

jmonroe, yeah, my situation is every bit as dire as yours. To Mrs. iluvmysephia1, me getting my new car is dumb on each and every level you can think of. I'm noticing that the 2011 Kia Soul's ghastly mileage is starting to suck.

I've got two more days off. I know I said I'd wait until after my 90-day probation is up, but even my boss in Wenatchee said as I was leaving yesterday, "your wife's still not on board yet?" Yes, he was talking about the new car purchase I am still planning on implementing.

Only he still thinks I want a Subaru. Hang in there, jmonroe. I like you even though you're a Steelers fan. :p

If your gas mileage is less....it still isn't a good enough reason to need a new car. That is a small amount of dollars compared to the cost of a new car + the underwater part.

Diversion simply means: "Don't get another ticket for __ months and your case will be dismissed automatically- with no reappearance required." Some "weird make work project," isn't it?

Like it or not, the system worked; as I've said, only a small percentage of citations had the box checked in the first place, and those defendants were almost always obnoxious at their initial appearance.

so, made some forward progress making peace with the new car. Collected a selection of different sized pillows from around the house, and was playing with them tonight driving around. Putting a small cushion under my right thigh made a world of difference. Kept my leg angled and supported nicely, and my knee from angling into the console. Need to find one a little bit smaller and firmer foam and should be good for road tripping. Though most likely will have to just buy the foam and cut it to size, and have the wife sew up a black cover for it.

Basically the car would be near perfect if they had just put the power version of the drivers seat in it that comes in the GT model. The seat has a nice cushion length and shape, but the front edge just doesn't tilt up enough with the manual adjustments. And a cushion is a lot easier than trying to unbolt and shim it!

Ah the life aint fair cop out. Nice. So in other words, a mildly tacit admission that a LEO could indeed lobby for increased penalty simply because he was personally offended. Thanks for the confirmation.

Hey, knowing the for-profit prison system and the massive pensions and bennies received by the virtually unfireable and untouchable brave crime and punishment sector, a make-work project is a valid guess.

Regarding being civil, as you say, life aint fair. Not being civil isn't necessarily illegal (unless a crooked judge or arrogant cop wants their authoritah respected), and shouldn't increase a punishment just because someone's feelings are hurt.

I'd like to see someone successfully ask for community service in lieu of the $550 fine for missing a yellow light by 1/2 second.

So why do the courts charge an extra fee for the privilege of traffic school? It seems there's a lot of sinister back scratching going on between the courts, LEO's, and Insurance companies. In fact, there were media stories about Insurance companies "donating" new radar equipment to patrol vehicles at various departments. Glad to see those profits are well spent!

Don't get another ticket for X months, or don't get another conviction? You can't control accusations, but you can fight convictions.

And for the record, the "system" at least in the macro sense, the big picture view, didn't work. Our roads are blood baths of human carnage compared to most European Countries. Whenever I point out that fact LEO's get very very defensive and whiny (coming up with various excuses of differing value), because they are always doing a "helluva job!" Just once I'd like to hear an LEO or judge acknowledge that perhaps we have been doing it wrong in this Country.

Anyone read the Justice Department's scathing review of the Baltimore Police Dept, which included criticisms at the traffic level.

It was surprisingly hard to find any dealer with color chips. Or at least salesman that knew where they were hidden in the dealership. They just want you to believe the copy print on paper, which is often an inaccurate color print job, or your computer monitor screen, which is often poorly depicted as well.

That is very nice of you nyc, and is greatly appreciated. I still have an email that I sent to American Standard and I expect a reply.

I will try to explain the situation as briefly as possible. Toilet in the master bedroom leaked when we weren't in Florida.......water from tank ran out, got on floor and then mold could grow on drywall and counter. Those have been replaced. We bought a new toilet American Standard in white and changed the sink to white. Found out just yesterday the water shut off wasn't really working, we shut the water off at the source for insurance purposes and so the water won't keep running. Since that valve didn't really shut off the water, the water kept filling the tank, and kept flooding. That was really a property management fault and we are sure that is why their insurance made for most of the damage.

That toilet is about 16 years old, as is the one we are now thinking of replacing. Since it got a hairline crack in the tank, we thought we should replace the other one as it could also get a hairline crack, since it is the same age. btw....these are Briggs models with flappers.

Now, we are having second thoughts about replacing it. After this Kohler incident, our thinking is, yes, this older toilet could also develop a crack, the water in the tank could run out......BUT, now the shut off valve is fixed so the amount of water that runs out will be limited....especially because the water will be shut off, and we will make sure there is a minimal amount of water left in the tank when we go.

So, hold off for now....I will let you know what happens, and thank you for your very kind offer....I am very appreciative. There are really nice people out there.

The new toilet in my main bathroom is a Gerber Viper. Outstanding. It is their "compact elongated" design which has a slightly smaller footprint than most elongated bowl toilets. It even comes in bone or biscuit. I believe in the US Home Depot sells them though not up here. Check it out.

ab, that is a really nice designed toilet......no Pfister but still very nice. How do they come up with the name Viper....it is like being in Florida and finding a snake in your toilet. A lady was on the news the other night and found an iguana in her toilet. I will check it out,

    So I write to Kohler:
We are looking to replace a toilet in our bathroom. The sink and bathtub are a rose/tan color, possibly called bone, almond, beige or biscuit. Could you mail us color samples so we will know what color to order so it will match. Thanks

This is the reply I got:
Thank you for contacting Kohler Co.

We are sorry you are having difficulty matching the colors of your Kohler products. We do offer color samples, however they are not sent out free of charge. To order samples, please call us at 1-800-456-4537 and request our Literature department.

    Sincerely,

    Nate L.

    KOHLER Customer Care

    This was my reply:
    Hi Nate L

    Thanks for getting back.

When is customer care kind of like....customer is a hassle - to be made money off of any way possible?

You are tossing out a customer who could be making a $200 to $300 purchase, companies pay a lot of advertising bucks to attract a potential customer.

Not sure if I want to deal with this particular company judging by this answer.

That is kind of ridiculous, but, whatever.

Don't mess with old guys :@

Yeah, you are pretty cranky. Don't they have color samples at the store that sells Kohler?
Home Depot doesn't have any color samples. They don't even have any display models of color.....all white only.
You should have cc'ed the head of Kohler, but this is typical of a company that has very little actual contact with their "end user". Pardon the pun.

I wouldn't replace it unless you are having serious problems.... we have two brand new Kohler units from the addition/remodel.

They are built to be "water saving". I'll leave it at this, they don't perform as well as the older water wasters.

Here's a page with lots of color chips available for purchase, cheap, to use to verify your color. The pages also give cross indexing for various manufacturers for the colors as well as the toilet seats to purchase to match the color.

Whew! Police have nabbed the man in Tampa Bay responsible for killing 4 people there. He was a nice young man, people who knew him say. Wow. Kansas City had a serial killer killing when the Mrs. and I lived there. It was on the Indian Creek trail system, which we had walked a part of. Scary. Good that the men that were killing in KC and Tampa Bay are behind bars and if the prosecuting attorney handles his cards right in both cases the guys will never see the outside world again. Unless Florida is a death penalty state, and I think they are.

I do believe Missouri is a death penalty yes state, too, BTW.

Well, the court clerk doesn't fund the departments and bennies, right? Yeah, not money, it's safety, or even more laughable "law and order" - unless you hold a FOP or similar card, or just have certain looks. And I am sure if someone speaks up about it, the threats begin.

I am not sure if I can believe there would be more penalties if cops weren't encouraging judges to look at some offenders in a different light from others.

Cash flow has nothing to do with it- in KY, the Circuit Court Clerk gets a very small percentage of the fees and everything else goes to the state. I'd be willing to bet that the ATTN box system resulted in a LOT fewer convictions than it would have without the system.
Believe whatever you want; we resolved at least 80% of minor traffic cases at the initial appearance- with diversion or outright dismissal. No fines, no court costs. Defendants were happy, LEOs were happy.
    @ssclowns?
    Not so much.
I could see KY being less heavy-handed than CA. CA is an authoritarian land, KY is home of a Libertarian Senator.

Very much. I remember you had recommended them and they are great. Funny thing - a lot of the plumbers here apparently use big-box stores which means American Standard or Kohler for the most part if you want a name brand. But just by chance my contractor subbed the plumbing for the main bathroom out to a company that does a lot of commercial work, and they used a plumbing supply house for their stuff. I mentioned Gerber to the guy, thinking he would say "never heard of it", and he said sure, that's the brand they like to use and was very familiar with them.

New CLS is interesting. Love the engine. Kind of weird on the outside, but in that car MB is definitely getting the flat panel display right.

Sure wish I could get in and out of that new CLS without much difficulty. That new inline 6 should be a rabbit off the line. I would have preferred a CLS over an S, but it is just too low to the ground.

I had to drive up to Palm Beach this morning to have my lease redone due to several issues. One issue had to do with the dates - all of them were incorrect. Showed that the lease (36 months) ended on August 10th, 2020, when it should show Nov. 10, 2020. Next, they were supposed to send me a check for $8200+ as the proceeds from my trade. They sent it out UPS next day delivery on Tuesday, but the check did not come yesterday. They traced the package and found that UPS has mistakenly shipped the envelope package to Orlando. God knows why when the dealership is only 35 miles away. So, their overnight delivery was unsuccessful. Supposedly, the package is to be delivered today, but of course it has not yet arrived. So that was issue 2.

Issue 3 had to do with the money factor. They had used a rate that was incorrect, so they had to reprint the lease and buyer's order again, for a third time. My payment per month went down $25.00. A truly amazingly inefficient, if not scummy, dealership. Getting a great deal from a dealership is one thing - but when you face issues like this, that's another. When a dealership underprices a vehicle by $5500.00, or about 5% less than any competing dealership within 15 miles of me, it's difficult not to buy/lease the vehicle at that dealership. $5500.00 is no small change.

While I'm on the subject of my new car, I noticed something on the way up to the dealership this morning - when I have the car in autonomous cruise control with Adaptive Lane Keeping and Adaptive Blind Spot monitors engaged, if I want to change lanes, all I have to do is put on the directional and the car changes lanes autonomously with no input from me. If is it not safe to change lanes, the car does not change lanes until there is no obstruction or oncoming vehicle. Nice feature.
