My refrigerator occasional seep was the water line before the refrigerator--not the Whirlpool's fault. LOL
Good to hear. Mine was leaking for quite some time evidently. The maple floor was starting to cup and discolor right in front of the refrigerator. Pulled the refrigerator out and the line was leaking. Must have been doing it since it was installed.
I'm hoping for the best for the floor, but it isn't looking good.

A local dealer is advertising 18% off sticker on GMC Arcadias. Seems like a lot this early in the year. Is there a redesign due or are they just not selling?
No, the Acadia was just redesigned a year or so ago. I had one as a loaner last summer, liked it quite a bit. Maybe these are leftover 2017s?
The commercial specifically said 2018. 18% off a 2017 wouldn't be anything special.
The previous house had a leak behind the refrigerator , not enough to run out and be noticed but caused the oak floor to cup a lot in front. Our insurance company wanted to try to restore first and if it did not work they would replace the floor. A company laid on the floor a few plastic pieces about 3 feet square connected to each other and by hoses to a powerful vac devise, not like a shop vac, much stronger. They also had a dehumidifier the size of a small refrigerator and ran both non stop for a few days and the cupping went back to flat and could not tell it happened.

I'm feeling very mechanical today after successfully replacing a burned out headlight bulb on my son's Mercury. It looked like a difficult job and I was almost headed to the shop when I said to myself..what the heck, let's try UTube. Sure enough, there was a trick to getting the assembly off that I would have never figured out in a hundred years.
I have to wonder why car makers design so many different ways of screwing in a light bulb. I long for the days of sealed beam.

I have that in my kitchen, "engineered hardwood" they call it. I wouldn't use it in that area again. If water gets on it you need to wipe it up right away. If it sits on a seam between boards it will cause it to distort. I have had the issue where an ice chunk falls on it and goes unnoticed, and once it melts it causes that problem. The other thing about it is that you need to be super-careful moving the fridge, stove, etc for cleaning in behind. They will leave permanent marks in the material from their wheels or feet. I have had to purchase special sliding pads that distribute the weight. It looks good but isn't all that practical for a kitchen unless you're willing to replace it every 10 years or so.
I expect transmission service by 5K miles, timing chain at 10K?
Nothing would surprise me. This kind of pushing of unnecessary service really irritates me, although I know it is a problem with a lot of new-car dealer service departments.
Staples is really upping their game to compete with WalMart and Amazon. Two weeks ago, I needed some printer cartridges. Staples was cheaper than both of them for the exact name brand cartridges, and they were in stock at my local store. Yesterday, I wanted a new office chair. Found the one I wanted, and Staples was 18% cheaper than Amazon on the exact same chair, plus they had free next day delivery. Went and looked at it in the store to be sure it fit my posterior like I wanted and then placed the order. This morning, they brought it to the door. I'm not an Amazon Prime member, so normally it takes my orders a week to show up. I was really impressed with Staples' prices and service. My thought previous to these transactions was that Staples was priced higher than the others.
Then when I picked up the car they made sure to note on the work order that next time at the 1-year anniversary I should get a 4-wheel alignment plus a brake service (lubricating sliders, etc), each of which they helpfully indicated were priced at $129.95 + tax, which is not covered by Cadillac of course. The car might have 4000 miles on it at that point. It is quite ridiculous.
This is nothing. My first "free" BMW service for the 2012 wagon went like this: the salesman guy camouflaged as "advisor", lets me sit than goes on typing on his computer for about 5 minutes, finally he hands me a piece of paper stating "customer requests" with three services listed: 4 wheel alignment, injector cleaning and differential fluid replacement. Each of those priced at $200. So my first "free" service was $600+ at the same time all those commercials, including one from my dealer, how much "free" the maintenance those pre-2017 BMWs were. Here is the funny part - the guy couldn't even hold the line as he was typing this crap and told me "what you really need is the alignment". I told him to go jump into lake (more politely), as I decided to find an independent BMW garage and perform any non-covered services there (I actually wanted to do the alignment just got turned off by the pricing and the approach). The alignment there was just about $130, bargain in comparison. But those BMW's (at least mine) require special equipment, unfortunately, as normal tire stores wouldn't touch it, so pay up, just a little less.
But the principle was - so much free maintenance that your first service should only be $600+, all "at your request", of course. I blasted them in the survey, as essentially being more concerned about the revenue than real needs of the customer. Nobody should need to clean injectors or change differential fluid on manual transmission car at 15k, unless they run their vehicle in the middle of a volcanic cloud for months and that would make many more other problems than that.
BMW now cut its "ultimate care free maintenance" to just oil changes and I think one air filter, or similar, for 3 years and priced an even "more ultimate free maintenance", matching pre-2017 model levels (i.e. add brakes, wipers and other consumables plus one more year) at tiny $2000+. Using logic of my dealer guy, somebody who just ponied up those 2 grand goes for a service and learns they still "need" to spend another $600 on that stuff I just mentioned, as it is still not covered. Bunch of crooks. And, those are supposedly "good guys" in that area. I only would like to see the bad ones.

It's not unique to cars. I remember same dance for your AC system, or other items that require some maintenance attention.
But the nitrogen increases life, we were told...
Who told you that?
The folks at the dealerships selling tires filled with nitrogen, supposedly, and some tire experts. It prolongs the life of the tire, etc.
I never would have guessed that.
jmonroe
Ok, I'll have to say they aren't exactly wrong. I can see the prolonged life argument because the nitrogen keeps the tire pressure steadier through varying temps, therefore you aren't running low pressures in the winter and higher in the summer, providing more even tire wear and therefore longer life. Can you pay attention to your tire pressures and do the same job manually? Of course. But we all know the vast majority don't.

The ATS was due for its first service so I took it in yesterday. No issues and really it was not much more than an oil & filter change but again the dealer managed to irritate me. Since Cadillac covers the service cost they once again foisted a new set of generic wiper blades onto me. I told them not to touch the OE ones so they just put the packages of blades in the trunk. I will have a full inventory of the things in a few years at this rate (this is the second set to be put on my shelf). I can't believe a dealership would be pushing aftermarket wiper blades. I my experience, they NEVER work as well as the OEM ones do and I've tried them all including the much touted Bosch blades!
When I started my vehicle shopping, I was going to keep the truck and trade the Fusion. The hurdle in my mind was that I'm very upside down on my loan, so I would end up overpaying for whatever I brought. I really wanted an MKZ. One night, I thought, hmm.., my truck is paid for, maybe I should look at another truck. It cost me about 2k more to swap the truck than the Fusion. That's before adding the upside down part of the Fusion.

O...the nitrogen keeps the tire pressure steadier through varying temps, therefore you aren't running low pressures in the winter and higher in the summer, providing more even tire wear and therefore longer life....
Has the Ideal Gas Law been repealed?
The pressure goes up or down about 1 pound for each 10 deg. F in the normal temperature range. This is true whether the gas is air which is 80% nitrogen or 95% nitrogen which is probably the max someone could get in their tire.
I've been harping on the uselessness of nitrogen tire filling for quite some time. I've "grown" since, and have come to the understanding that the nitrogen is irrelevant -- the key is "dry" nitrogen (dew point at -50 deg or more), which can be purchased in cylinders.
The deal is that the water vapour in atmospheric air contains quite a lot of water, and it's the water that causes the wide pressure variations that come with temperature changes. I deal with dry gas at work, so this does meet the smell test, at least for me.
That said, how does one know what's being pumped into their tires? Do you trust your dealer? Do you?

I was debating adding that to my post. The dry nitrogen is the properly processed stuff in cylinders. The shops sell nitrogen which is supposed to be above 78% because their machines they buy from companies pushing them based on the money to be made "selling" "nitrogen" to people put into the tires and the high markup. BUT those machines just enrich the nitrogen by eliminating some of the other gases, not all of the other gases. I use the parallel of all the advertisements trying to sell enterprising folks yogurt machines to make money putting yogurt machines in select locations. The machines on the wall at the XYZ tire store does not dry the air either.
The expansion coefficient of the water molecules follows the Gas Law until about 200 deg F when it expands into steam occupying about 1000 times the volume if my chemistry class recall is right. That affects racing tires because it changes their pressure drastically. Unless I'm street racing, I doubt my Goodyears will hit 212 deg. F..

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked the mail today. I got a letter that says "There is High Demand for Your Car". Wow, must be my lucky day.
I got one today too. They want my 2013 Ford Escape that I haven't had for over 4 years.
Well, it's either an epidemic or it's that time of the month/year.
I got a card today from the mega dealer on the other side of town (not the local BIG guy), where Mrs. j got her 2006 Sonata LX. That's the car I traded in to get my '09 Genny. Just a business card in an envelope and nothing else but it did have the following hand printed message on the fold open card:
Call me ! I am interested in purchasing your vehicle. I am also pretty sure I can get you into a new model and possibly lower your payment ! Call me, Dopey Sales Consultant 412-xxx-xxxx extension xxxx
Upon further examination of this "hand printed" card, I see it ain't really "hand printed". It is a stamped card. Could not smear the ink on the card or erase any part of it. On top of that I noticed that it was mailed from Louisville, KY not from the dealership. So, it seems that there are companies that do this type of advertizing for dealers on a dealers business card. Sales consultants must be so busy today that they don't have time for this type of communication anymore.
If any of you guys still have your mailings, take a look to see if it is from your dealer or a factory card writer.

There is one universal thing everywhere in the world you can count on: people are lazy and want top result with minimal input from them. It sometimes leads to great innovation and invention, but most of the rime it simply results in sloppiness, half-baked product, and general disapointment in all parties involved. You get massproduced „personalized” messages with misspelled names, incorrect data and generic mumbo-jumbo, developed on assumption you can’t count to ten and are gullible as a three-year old.
