I like that new Lincoln navigator was beautiful in comparison to the expedition interior which wasn’t too bad either

I hated to read of Harry Anderson's passing. Night Court made its debut in 1984- two years before I became a judge at the age of 29. It wasn't long before I realized that the show was a stunningly accurate depiction of courts of limited jurisdiction- AKA "The Trenches"-just like the one I practiced in. At one point or another I dealt with the same type of characters Judge Stone worked with- a womanizing prosecutor, a cynical chain-smoking bailiff, a couple of idealistic public defenders and a steady stream of bizarre and/or hilarious defendants, plaintiffs, and prosecuting witnesses.
    RIP Harry...

It was a trifecta of passings. Harry Anderson, Art Bell and R. Lee Ermey.

    Instrument panel and interior are pretty nice in 2018 Navigator.......but, I would like to see a little more done with it for closing in on $100000;
Be nice if the grill for the radio was incorporated into the design,
    Center console is enormous
That pop up screen could have been incorporated into the instrument panel.
Round button to left of screen looks like it was added on at last minute,
Instrument panel looks bare and not as nice as a lot of less expensive cars.

My washing machine is starting to make some big banging noises.  We do A LOT of laundry (there are 5 of us).  I’m thinking of replacing it before it goes KABOOM!

We replaced a 20 year old Maytag last year.  The closest thing to old Maytags today is Speed Queen.  Made in USA and looks to be made to last.  Wife likes simple machines and this one fits the bill.  Hoping to get 15 years out of it.

You guys in here have some pretty young whipper snapper washers.

When we moved back to the Burgh from SC in '97 we didn't bother to bring along the old washer and dryer we had because we felt they were too old to bother with. Just so happens that not too long after we got back my mother died and my brothers insisted that we stay in her house while we looked for a house. I think they just wanted a handy man for the ranch house my parents built in 1955. Anyway, we now have her OLD Maytag washer that she bought in October of 1989 that replaced her first automatic washer that was a Speed Queen bought around 1956. I know that because we found the receipt for the Maytag when we were cleaning out her house when we finally left. We also inherited her Speed Queen dryer that dated back to the same time as her Speed Queen washer. Turns out the dryer was a piece of junk and quit about 3 months after we were staying in the house. How dare that thing. :@ We replaced the Speed Queen dryer with a Kenmore no frills unit. We still have the Kenmore dryer and we still have that Maytag washer bought by my mother in 1989. Mrs. j didn't want to replace it when we found the house we are living in today because she liked the way it cleaned cloths. This washer has no lights just a couple knobs and a mechanical timer. It's going to be a sad day around here when that thing goes. It's so old that it has the suds return feature but Mrs. j has never used it. The hose for that just sits over the wash tub next to it.

As for Speed Queen, I read an article about that company a few months ago in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. They still build their washer and dyers today like they did years ago. The article said they are the largest supplier for commercial laundromats. Their commercial units have a heavier case but the internals are pretty much like the commercial units, built to last in Wisconsin.

We won't hesitate to buy a no frills Speed Queen when the Maytag finally quits.

Tax day. I recall my problems with those folks a few years back. It took 3 return letters certified with return receipt for Lois there to understand. I had to copy their own instructions and cite the page numbers and paragraphs for their own instructions on what was included as deductible to prove I had done it by the letter of their law. Shheeeeeesh.

Then last year..., I got a letter that I owed more meaning a smaller refund. I got on the phone after taking a Zanax to calm down and did get connected to a good guy who went over the form and because his wrong numbers were similar to the correct numbers I thought he was just reading them in a strange way. After going onto the calculation page, a long calculation form for tax on dividends and capital gains, their machine read the digits wrong on the front of the 1040 on one of the lines. When he corrected that, he said "Your numbers are exactly right." I felt like telling him that's what the 4e!! I've been telling you for the last 15 minutes. But he was pleasant about it other than started out like I was another of those folk who don't double check numbers and calculations.

I mailed mine yesterday. What excitement will this year's submission bring from the tax people?

BTW, doing Ohio's tax forms is much harder than doing the federal forms I have to go through. Ohio's are meant to trick you into making a mistake; not ergonomically and logically well done at all.

Very 90s :) And not necessarily in a bad way.

A big issue I have with those wheels is they almost always end up being rotated into the wrong direction, or mismatched directions:

Try e-filing so issues lime that don't pop up.

I switched to e-filing long time ago. This year I was done in late February, money refund in the bank in a week. I can't imagine why people would still do paper filing, if they don't have to (there are some circumstances when they do).

That's about the only way a I roll!

Let's see... my 2010 Forester was in Seattle, so about 2,200 miles. The 2013 Passat was Ohio (4,000), then the Q7 in Texas (5,500), and the 2013 Forester in Illinois (about 4,500, with a deviation getting home in order to visit family in Oregon).

So, yeah, hopefully I can get a good length trip in to bring the next car home. Just enough to stretch its highway legs a bit. :)

Well, the saying "they don't make them like they used to" sure rings true for appliances! These days, just getting an appliance to last a decade is quite a feat. I don't have any idea of the "average life span" of a washer that supports a family, but my gut tells me that five or six years is probably about right. Between the poorly built parts and electronics that are oh-so-necessary (note sarcasm here), it is all but inevitable that something will fail in that time, and most people don't even bother with the "fix it" route.

I bought my first washing machine in July of 2004 when I was just shy of 27 years old. And, I still have it... with no pretenses at all that it will EVER reach the age of your mother's 1989 Maytag! I still have my first car, too, which is substantially older (with many more years ahead).

Speaking of wheels, whatever happened to spinners or spinning rims? I think that innovation came out of Rhode Island but I have not seen any lately. They were really cute especially on big SUVs.

I have been efiling my fed return for as long as it has been around, but file paper state return. I always have to pay the state, so I'd rather not pay extra to efile it PLUS I have no desire to get them there money sooner than I need to. :)

Same. I can’t imagine doing on paper. I get the software and let it do the work. But won’t spend an extra $30 for state e file. So I just print a copy and mail it in. Can wait a few extra weeks for my refund.

We don't charge extra to e-file the state return and you don't have to send in the payment until the filing deadline. So there are people that e-filed in February that are mailing their payment today.

WOW, I thought I was kinda weird going out of state to get cars. Got my last three cars like that. Two in Ohio and the latest one, the '15 Genny in Fairfax VA, (just outside of DC). Driving those distances from an eastern suburb of the Burgh is about my limit. Having to get an oil change after driving back home with a new car is, well, waaaay beyond my limit. You may even have to check the tires for wear after the trips you make. :'( I heard Son #1, who lives about 10 miles from me, say one time, that he'd go as far as Chicago to get a car but he'd only have to check the washer fluid after a trip like that.

I gather Alaskan dealers are tough to deal with, at least for you.

I just let my accountant do the work.
Years ago, when my wife was part owner in a company, there were some 'other' forms that needed to be filed.
Just got used to having someone do them.
That guy had to give up his practice, so last year I used a new guy.
He is sharp, picked up on a mistake from one of the big brokerage company's and saved me a lot of grief.
Have no problem letting him figure out the numbers and file the forms.

I did my daughters too so far while she was in college. Just easier. Plus I needed them for the FAFSA stuff. Last year she had earned income in 2 states, neither of which was the state we live in. so ended up having to do 3 different filings for her. Next year, she gets to do it. I will be happy to show her the ropes, or give her the file and let her find someone. her money, her choice.

I kind of like those wheels, I think they call them turbine wheels. At least they did on my old Lincoln. Make the car look like it's going fast....like fender fins.
The rim doesn't bother me as much as the hammered on wheel weight that can be seen. I thought those things disappeared not long after the bubble balancer. :o jmonroe
I have a drawer half full of hammer on weights and a bubble balancer. I have yet to meet a wheel I could not balance. I do, however, put the weights only on the back side.

I agree. My daughter went to college/worked summer in Cleveland. So, one year I had to fill out her Fed, MA, OH and Cleveland local. All refunded except Cleveland. They kept and didn't even say thanks. Terrible for the OH folks.
I do my son's and I'm not looking forward to it next year since he works for LYFT and is considered an independent business. I do schedule F for me so I guess doing schedule C and SE for him won't be too different.

We don't charge extra to e-file the state return and you don't have to send in the payment until the filing deadline. So there are people that e-filed in February that are mailing their payment today.

    who is "we"?
That is the tax prep people I work for.

Good news for those rushing to get their taxes done. The IRS servers crashed so they extended the filing deadline by one day. So you have till midnight 04/18/18.

You are probably thinking of these spinners; The newer version of spinners is when the car stops but the wheel disc keeps turning; Am I getting too old or do they seem kind of tacky?
Love that classic Oldsmobile.  I believe that is a 98 model.  Also believe it’s a 1955.  My uncle bought a brand new 98 Oldsmobile in 1955.  It was heavenly.  Had the Rocket V8 engine and was so luxurious inside.  He kept that car right through college - was at the University of Miami in Coral Gables.  I remember my Dad took our family down to Miami in 1956 in his ‘56 white Buick Roadmaster convertible - had red leather seats - to visit my uncle and my grandparents.  No interstates back then.  But I vividly remember my uncles black 1955 Olds 98 Sedan.

Well you better get that cruise diesel soon take a road trip somewhere to get it though

Not when I bought mine, but that was back in the early 80's from this place.

Maybe you guys with the Ultimate Package or trendy lifestyle cars have fancy wheel weights but us poor working stiffs get what we can afford. :@
It has nothing to do with an Ultimate package or any other package. The Firestone place where I have bought Bridgestone's dating back to the first replacement tires I got for my '09 Genny hasn't used hammer on weights that I could see being used on any rims. OK, maybe they have them for the very old rims but I haven't seen them when I was there. Come to think of it the place where I used to buy Cooper's didn't have them either.

I agree but when you cheat it doesn't feel as bad. B)
