It was just announced that Charles Krauthammer has died after a terrible bout with cancer. For those of you who are unaware of his life and remarkable intellect, he was admired and respected by just about everyone who came into contact with him.
I urge you to google him and read about his diving accident when he was in his early 20’s. He became a quadriplegic as a result of severing his spinal column after hitting his head. Yet, he completed medical school at Harvard and served in the Carter administration. He went from a left progressive to a right of middle conservative and won the Pullitzer Prize in Journalism.
May God keep this man at his side for all eternity. I will personally miss him - our country has lost a true intellect.
He was a brilliant man; I’ve been a political geek for decades and I always found him to be a true gentleman who expressed his opinions with unfailing logic and clarity. I tended to agree with him more often than not, but even when I didn’t I found his analysis to be thought provoking.

Just got our electricity and cable and internet connections back. This happens 4-5 times a year from June through October. Not fun - especially when it’s 94 degrees out.
Krauthammer was an anti-Breitbart conservative, that alone gives him some merit. Now that the movement has turned against intellectualism, losing some of its actual intellect will be a loss.
Not to get too political, but these regrettable days, Reagan wouldn't be far right at all. Nixon would be fairly centrist, too. It's a new world out there, and often not in a good way.
You know aba, he sounds a bit like Reagan. Reagan didn't overcome a handicap like that or go Ivy League, but politically had the same history. People call Reagan a right wing conservative, but he wasn't all that radical. Really, more a right center pragmatist who actually really did know how to make a good deal. I like to hear people from both sides of the spectrum, but don't waste my time on whack jobs at both edges of the curve.

There is one thing that has me completely stymied - his wife gave birth to their son, Daniel, well after his paralysis from the injury sustained in the pool. There were two other children who are deceased. The only mention of how Robin, Charles’s wife, had children was that she was artificially inseminated. No other info is available. Interesting that Daniel Krauthammer was considered even more intellectual than his father, Charles. Daniel’s resemblance to his father, Charles, is striking.
Have you recently purchased a small used car due to budget reasons or because of gas prices? If so, a journalist would like to chat with you about it. If you're interested, please reach out to PR@edmunds.com no later than 9 a.m. Pacific this Friday, June 22. Thank you!
Do wannabe small used cars count...I know someone who has considered buying a few over the last year?

In today’s political climate, JFK would be considered a right of center conservative just as Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush. My last comment on this topic - I’m scared!
Relative to the rest of the first world, the American supposed left is kind of a corporatist center-right, and the right is now far right. Olden day conservatives aren't close to the label today, look at someone like Ike. Man, I wish we had some of those again. I'll say no more too

To redirect the conversation, I thought I'd post a picture of one of my dogs I took today while sitting at my desk. The recliner she is in is my Fathers Day gift and is way too comfortable.

Michaell....I’m “breed challenged”. What kind of dog is that?
Reason I ask, although I travel for work quite a bit, when I’m home I rattle around this big house alone. Thinking of getting a dog.
Filled up with PUG at Costco this morning - 2.99,9 per gallon. That’s 20 cents a gallon less than I paid in May. That is a significant drop in just 4 weeks - perhaps even faster (the drop in price) than when it increased in April and May. Interesting.
My yellow lab is also in my avatar. I'm very sad to tell you, she has lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment.
To @graphicguy : I have always shared my life with one or more dogs, and I have never regretted a single minute of it. If you live alone, and travel for business, you would need to find a good way to take care of your dog while you're away. On the rare occasions when I am away, I have someone, a trusted friend and former coworker, now retired, who does house-sitting. It costs me $50 per day, but a good kennel runs $30 a day or more, and I have two dogs, so ...
My retired friend who does the house sitting finds this to be a very good way to pick up a little extra money in her retirement. She also picked up a teaching certificate, and does some work as a substitute teacher, but she is very picky these days about what schools she will work in.

By the same token, I don't think JFK would recognize the Democrat Party either.
RIP Charles Krauthammer. He was a brilliant writer; he wrote so beautifully and so elegantly that I did not understand a word her wrote.
That is when you know they are good writers, when you can't understand them. In Canada we have Conrad Black, he uses words no one has ever heard of before. Similar rule about fine restaurants, the more expensive the meal the smaller the portions.
So, today I cam home....and I saw the local weekly newspaper with all the flyers in it, lying in the driveway. This time I came home and backed into the drive. Had to line up the paper using the back-up camera. Backed up next to it, put the car in park, took off the seat belt, leaned out the door, scooped up the newspaper, continued to back into the garage.
There are more ways than one to skin a cat.....oh, sorry Rusty! (I know, just a joke, no cats were used in the making of this story)
My comment on dogs is that a dog needs to have someone around most of the time. If no one is at home during the day, if a neighbor, relative, friend does dog sitting that might work. We know of a lady who takes in dogs
@henryn.....I've owned 3 dogs....all Golden retrievers. Great Dogs. Last one I had died about 5 years ago.
I think I might want something a bit smaller and one who sheds less (that's why I liked Michaell's dog). All of my Golden's were laid back. I liked that. I'm always fearful that smaller dogs can be "yappy". Nothing wrong with those breeds, just not something I prefer.
Traveling is a detriment with a pet. And, I don't like to kennel my pets. But, I do have a "friend" who says she'd watch any dog I have while gone.

In the "curious" stage right now.
GG, Have the friend help you choose a dog, it is important that they like the dog if they are watching it. Once we had a neighbor who said he would watch our dog if we got a Boxer. Boxers aren't my thing, but I asked him what he liked about Boxers. He said he liked the way they slobber. Our dog Gigi is 11 pounds and does not shed. She can bark but she only barks once every two years if I chase her. She is 14 years old. Here she is wearing a matching horizontal striped onsey;
How about a Corvette Carbon 65? Nobody cutting up GM about these. They are making 650 for the U.S., 50 coming to Canada. Just $15000 extra! CORVETTE CARBON 65
The accolades pouring in from liberals, progressives, moderates and conservatives alike overwhelmingly paying tribute to Charles Krauthammer is truly remarkable. I was watching MSNBC this morning, a far left progressive cable news network, and the program was dedicated to honoring and remembering Charles’s life and his writings and commentaries.
Just another example of his contributions to American thought and conscience. If you are interested in learning more about his life and his intellect, FOX NEWS CHANNEL is airing a special one hour program at 9:00 PM EDT tracing his life, his achievements and his abrupt metamorphosis from left liberal politics to right of center politics. Hope you enjoy, if so interested. It’s a new program.
