@henryn.....I've owned 3 dogs....all Golden retrievers. Great Dogs. Last one I had died about 5 years ago.
I think I might want something a bit smaller and one who sheds less (that's why I liked Michaell's dog). All of my Golden's were laid back. I liked that. I'm always fearful that smaller dogs can be "yappy". Nothing wrong with those breeds, just not something I prefer.
Traveling is a detriment with a pet. And, I don't like to kennel my pets. But, I do have a "friend" who says she'd watch any dog I have while gone.

Returning to dogs and cars as you commanded, suydam, I got a mutt on my 10th birthday - the whole family adored this black and brown terrier mix - a member of our family for 14 years.
One summer day, my mom was driving home from the vets office in the family car. Kipper always sat next to a window - if we didn’t open the car window, Kipper would bark and cry until she could get her nose out of a window to feel the wind blowing in her face. So after several minutes of barking and crying, mom drops the front passenger power window while driving, so she did not realize the window was fully open. She makes a sharp left turn and out the window went Kipper. She slams the brakes and gets rear-ended by the car behind her. Meanwhile, Kipper had found a squirrel climbing a tree and decided to stalk the squirrel st the base of the tree trunk even though she was bleeding from scrapes and cuts on her face, legs, paws and derrière. She wasn’t crying or favoring her extremities and had put all her concentration on catching that squirrel.
I ran over to her, grabbed her collar, and calmed her down. The squirrel disappeared up in the tree and that’s when she began to cry and favor her injured paws. Mom had to deal with the car that hit her so I called a cab and took Kipper back to the vet’s office.
What amazed me was the fact that so long as she was heavily engaged in stalking that poor squirrel, you would never guess she had been thrown from a moving car and sustained one broken leg, a scraped belly and abrasions to her snout. She was laid up for 5 weeks with a cast on her right front leg and periodic dressing of her wounds.
My mom refused to drive in the family car with Kipper unless someone was holding her taut on her leash. Mom was heartbroken and had some serious emotional distress about that incident. She blamed herself for hurting Kipper. But we always would break out laughing about the distraction that squirrel caused Kipper so she ignored her pain and injuries so long as that squirrel was in her sights.

The accolades pouring in from liberals, progressives, moderates and conservatives alike overwhelmingly paying tribute to Charles Krauthammer is truly remarkable. I was watching MSNBC this morning, a far left progressive cable news network, and the program was dedicated to honoring and remembering Charles’s life and his writings and commentaries.
Just another example of his contributions to American thought and conscience. If you are interested in learning more about his life and his intellect, FOX NEWS CHANNEL is airing a special one hour program at 9:00 PM EDT tracing his life, his achievements and his abrupt metamorphosis from left liberal politics to right of center politics. Hope you enjoy, if so interested. It’s a new program.
One writer said, "Mr. Krauthammer was such an intelligent and eloquent writer, I couldn't understand a word he wrote". I am pretty sure he meant that as a compliment !

Dogs are hard wired not to be alone. They are "pack" animals and consider their human family to be part of the pack, and don't like to be separated.

Might depend on what part is Poodle and what part Golden Retriever.
Poodles don't shed, but Goldens shed most all year round and there are least two times a year that it is a lot. You can expect dog hair everywhere if you own a Golden Retriever. They need to be brushed daily and regular use of an undercoat rake will significantly improve the shedding. Daily brushing also keeps them from matting

All true about Goldens, Driver. Loved all of mine. When I was young(er) and my son was small, we didn’t mind the constant care as much. Now? I love pets, particularly dogs. But, I know myself. I want a dog’s companionship as much as they’d want mine.
Looking around, I’m getting a pretty good feel on what I’d be happy with and what dog would be happy with me.
Speaking of unruly pets, My sister has a dog, small, long haired, that constantly barks. A/C kicks on? The dog barks. Person passing behind it, it barks. When I visit, it gets to the point where we can not have a conversation between the dog barking and my sister trying to quiet her. They actually put a child gate in front of the TV because the dog would bark and try to bite the TV when it is on. I DO NOT WANT THAT!
Reading the advice on dogs and cats, I marvel at how far this topic has come from dishwashers, refrigerators, sound systems for TV, and so on. LOL.
As long as we don't start on sports as a major topic, that will be good.
Plus it wouldn’t be fair for those of you who don’t root for the Yankees!

Yes, lots of variables when crossing breeds, even in the same litters..and even pure bred poodles do shed some...but it is not really noticeable because the shedded curly, kinky hair wraps around the remaining hair and generally stays put. This can result in hair clumps in poodles, so poodles and poodle crossbreeds require a lot of maintenance, grooming, clipping, brushing etc., but you won't have loose hair everywhere. We have to have our Daisy (Yorkiepoo) groomed about every 4/5 weeks, and brush out a few clumps and kinks in between grooming.

QUESTION
I have another new car dealer horror story. I signed a purchase for a new car and the trade-in value of my old car was just under eight thousand dollars. When I went in to pick up the car, I was informed that the trade in value of my car was now only five thousand dollars. How can a dealer alter the sales agreement when I have already signed a bill of sale and left a down payment for the new car? Their reason for telling me this is that they are disputing the mileage on my car, which I have driven for over three years. I purchased the car privately and the mileage has never been altered while I have owned the car. It is not my fault if someone altered the kilometres on the car before I purchased it and it looks like I am getting screwed twice—once from the person from whom I purchased it and now again from the dealer. Can the dealer back out of a signed contract? Bob from Binbrook
ANSWER
What do you think that your position would be if the situation was reversed and you purchased from the dealer a car that you thought had a certain mileage and then before you picked up the car, you found out that the car had many more kilometres than what the odometer reads? Would you agree then that the contract that you signed was still binding? It is not the dealer’s fault that you purchased a car with altered kilometres and remember that you signed a statement to the dealer that the mileage was correct. What I do not understand is that your car has the type of odometer that cannot be altered so someone must have replaced the odometer with a used one that had fewer kilometres. Since you are the second owner and you did not replace the odometer then you should again contact the original owner of the car to see if you can sort out the discrepancy in the mileage. I am not sure if anything at this late date can be done to the original owner. This is not a fault that you can place in the hands of the dealer.

Rusty is a very large male cat. I won't tell him you said that.
That look is actually one of him in a rare smile. He is a great cat and very affectionate to me but scared of other humans and is quite stoic most of the time. It seems he barely has his eyes open a lot of the time, hard to get a pic of him like the one I posted. Usually he has this sort of look:

It looks like a classic overload caused it. Bourbon weighs about the same as water or roughly 8.3 pounds per gallon. When the top floor collapses the floor below collapses and so on.
Good to hear that no one was hurt. In any case, the guy responsible for wasting that much bourbon should be hung. :@

You Canadians and other metric-ites confuse me. In the same sentence mileage and kilometers is mentioned. Make up your minds...mileage or kilometage.

Hey @ab348, how are you doing in your recovery? I bet Rusty missed you when you were in the hospital.
Thanks for asking. I am feeling better each day. The main thing I still have to get past is that I am apparently in need of more sleep than I've been getting as I often get tired in the afternoons and need to nap. Otherwise there is a noticeable change in how I feel heart-wise. The only other thing that became apparent is that since I have been able to do very little physically for nearly 2 years I am now woefully out of condition. But each day I walk or do chores it seems to get a bit better so I expect that will come around eventually.
Good to hear, ab. I've noticed after every surgery I have had, it takes me a few weeks to not get tired in the afternoons. Something about going under anesthesia that takes a while to recover. Stick with the exercise, and you will build up your fitness pretty quickly. Not being active takes its toll, but the body really craves activity to perform its best.
The dog has his own blanket that he pulls over his body? What a life he has.

we have a 3-seat sofa and 2 chairs in the set. Each chair and each end of the sofa have power recline and power headrests. So "4-way power seats." the 5th button turns the lighted cupholders on and off. The pets often push the buttons

Even if they did, probably nobody in China would know about it. To them, Buick is a brand name that the older folks might have had some familiarity with before and during the Pacific War.
1 in 5 cars in pre WW II China were Buicks. The relationship does go way back.
But sure, you're right, for most Chinese that is a distant memory. Buick's success in China is mostly due to GM recognizing what the Chinese like to drive (very different tastes than Americans) and developing vehicles specifically for those preferences.

Since we’re doing critters, here’s my dog and cat. Ethel is a Cairn Terrier, who has hair, not fur, so she doesn’t shed. She loves to chase balls but will also be a couch potato. Orange Cat, is just that. He is loyal to my wife and me, but will warily watch other humans. He is a great hunter and I’ve seen him polish off a mouse in 20 seconds and just leave the stomach for us.
I've decided at this point in my life, I don't want anything I have to feed, water, walk, or nurture. I'm working on not having to talk to anyone, but haven't achieved that quite yet.
Our girls, sisters. First generation Golden Doodles. Wonderful dogs. Playful, smart, loving. They do shed but not a lot, especially compared to other dogs.

That look is actually one of him in a rare smile. He is a great cat and very affectionate to me but scared of other humans and is quite stoic most of the time. It seems he barely has his eyes open a lot of the time, hard to get a pic of him like the one I posted. Usually he has this sort of look:

Good to hear that no one was hurt. In any case, the guy responsible for wasting that much bourbon should be hung. :@

But sure, you're right, for most Chinese that is a distant memory. Buick's success in China is mostly due to GM recognizing what the Chinese like to drive (very different tastes than Americans) and developing vehicles specifically for those preferences.
