Repairman was unsure if the motor went bad and affected the circuit board or if the circuit board went bad. So he's replacing both.

I wish you good luck on your refrigerator. I hope you have a spare fridge in the garage if it ever goes out.

Now I know why the Lowes warranty service folks said I could rent a refrigerator and they would pay for it until this one is back in service. I pictured 2-3 days. How do you rent a refrigerator?

They also said they would pay for a food locker if I took our food there to store until ours was back in service.

And they will pay for food that we document that spoiled. Some we're going to claim; much was produce that was perishable anyhow.

    Man!! What a mess.

My daughter has a habit of naming things.

Cars? Her first MINI was named "Westen" (character from a TV show); the current MINI is "Beckham". The Outback is "Star Lorde". My Jetta is, apparently, unworthy of a name.

The fruit trees we just had planted in the backyard are "Jasmine" (Princess Plum) and "Sebastien" (crab apple). Other trees and plants have names, as well - the three willows we planted earlier this year are "Will.I.Am.Willow", "Grandmother Willow" and "Will 'O the Wisp".

I decided to bite the bullet and have our 50 gallon electric water heater replaced; it hadn'r failed but it was 21 years old and I decided I'd rather do it now rather than have it spring a leak at an inconvenient time. Total cost was $790, which I thought wasn't bad considering the heater alone goes for around $716. So this year I've replaced my pressure tank, sump pump, and water heater. Hopefully the next time they go it will be my son's problem...

The vanity plate on my Mazdaspeed 3 was GOJIRA(replete with matching Kanji characters). One day my son and I were out in the MS3 and some Goth kids in a decrepit Accord pulled up beside us and gave us the waves and thumbs-ups. My son and I thought it was odd that kids like that would be interested in a Mazdaspeed. It turns out there's a death metal band named Gojira, so those kids must have thought we were big fans...

I had lunch with a friend/colleague yesterday. He has a 3 year old 370Z that has a lease which is expiring. He said he wouldn’t mind replacing it with a Nismo. But, he said he can’t find another new Z anywhere in the city, let alone a Nismo. He was wondering if Nissan is getting ready to either dump the model or replace it with something totally new. Gotta admit, his looked a whole lot like the one I was shopping for in 2004. I know they updated the engine (3.5 to 3.7). Aside from that, not many changes over the last 14-15 years from what I could tell.
overall shape is the same, but the details are quite different. I actually prefer the old look of the 350.
The Z has improved somewhat. In 2008 it boasted only about 25 more hp than my lowly Eclipse (289 vs 263) but last time I checked it was well over 300 hp. Ican only assume they improved the ride, which in 2008 was like being dragged over rocks in a bag.

Actually, it went up to 300hp in 2006 and 306 in 2007. By the 2008 models you are comparing, the 350z had the Eclipse by more than half a second in acceleration, and of course there was no contest when it came to turns given the Eclipse's FWD.

I never thought the ride harsh at all, but maybe it got worse after my 2005.

The GTI was named Blitz, the Mercedes was named Hans, and the Saab is named WaSAABi (short for Washington Saab). I have not come up with a good name for Alfa, but so far the name "Recall" seems like it could end up being appropriate.

The Mazda was nicknamed Orange Crush because it was well...orange.

The Audis nickname was Audizzle, which my kids thought was hilarious once they  started responding with fo shizzle and my nizzle. It got to the point whenever my wife asked which car we were taking I would say the Audizzle and one one of the kids would always chime in with fo shizzle or my nizzle and then crack up laughing.

IT rreally is easy to change the filter. I only do it every year and a half or so. There are only two of us. The electronic screen on the front of the water dispenser is programmed to replace filter every 6 months. Fat chance. Too dang expensive unless you buy the off brands from China.

I hate putting in new filter cartridges, get on the floor and try to pry the old one loose to try and screw it out....with water all over the floor. If they can get a man to the moon how come they can't make a filter that you can get at easily?

This fridge, a side-by-side, and the Maytag (Whirlpool) we had earlier both had filters up top in refrigerator compartment. This one is flip up front door, twist cartridge 1/8 turn and it's loose, then reverse to install new one.

Nice....I have to lie on the floor and try to turn a handle which always gets frozen in place........good for a masochist.

They really screwed up NASCAR---they killed the golden goose. Putting some people who weren't even race drivers (ahem!) in there for publicity didn't help either. Lots of sponsors are pullin out.

Absolutely. The decline is shockingly quick, too. The usual thing this season is to see entire grandstands empty and blocked off, with plenty of empty seats even in the ones that are still in use. I can't point at any one thing that killed it, but it was a lot more fun to watch 10-20 years ago.
A lot of things are biting the dust these days. I was just reading how some high schools don't have enough interest to get a football team together. Golf is really fading, takes too long, too expensive, and young people aren't interested. Young people aren't that interested in cars and they really aren't interested in watching a car race. Young people want computers and cell phones......and that is it!
Funny you would mention the lack of interest in football. A group of us were talking about that last night.

It seems the injuries are becoming more numerous and more severe at all levels.

The general opinion was that the athletes are getting so big, so fast, and so strong that the athletes may have outgrown the game.
I am 71 and am still playing tennis. All my high school friends who played high school football can't move much any more....bad knees and all kinds of back problems. "Real" football and hockey must be extremely hard on the body. Also, getting knocked around like that is hard on the brain as well....as they are finding out. If I was a young person I would consider that before considering the sport a career. Though, if you are good I guess you go for it anyway - short term fame, glory and money, worry about old age after.
    Good for you!

My late Father stayed active until his mid-80s. His one rule, never get used to sitting around the house doing nothing. He didn’t. He volunteered. He was in a Bocce League (yes, they exist). He gardened. Plus, he drank a shot of whiskey and chased it with a beer, every day. He swore by that regimen.
That is great. I don't like whiskey....a beer is good though!

The “snowbirds” are starting to return to their winter habitats (here in Florida) now that we have entered the month of October.  It is still outrageously hot and humid down here - highs in the upper 80’s and low 90’s with 70%+ humidity.  Another 3-4 weeks of this and we will get our winter respite from the heat.

The tell-tale traffic jams are proof enough that northerners are arriving here in droves.

@driver100 usually starts his trek southward close to Thanksgiving IIRC.  I am just bracing myself for the onslaught.  :o

Yup....driver flies down in exactly 3 weeks....October 24th. Temps here are around 60 to 65.

My younger brother lives in Calgary....he got a small trailer and a new to him X5 to pull it...he left Calgary about a week ago....wanted to leave before the snow. Yesterday they had 12 inches of snow with more coming today. he got out of Dodge Calgary just in time.

We have Frontier FIOS (it was spun off from Verizon up here years ago). We pay $119/month for 150/150 internet, 1 DVR and 1 HD box, and their top tier TV package including all the premiums. No contract, but rate locked until 2019.

What happened to Boxing. My father used to watch it every Saturday night. I never understood why....one guy trying to knock another guy out....not my idea of fun.

Having lived for a while in Indianapolis, and been relatively close to Indy a good portion of my life, I'm more of an Indy Race fan.

But, a few years ago while on a business trip I was offered a tour of Daytona Speedway, and allowed a few laps in a NASCAR set up. Had to do some training and have a certified driver next to me, but the fastest I've ever gone on 4 wheels came in that car. Probably the biggest automotive thrill of my life

Refrigerator update. Serviceman just left. It's hard to type through the tears. Just missed 3 pm order time for overnight shipping for parts today. Needs blower motor AND a circuit board. Not in stock locally. Likely won't ship until tomorrow 3 pm overnight. Arriving Friday. He'll put in MONDAY!!!!

    That's a long time.

He tried to make me feel better by saying that they are able to get parts really fast from Whirlpool/Maytag/KitchenAide. Other brands are taking WEEKS to get parts. I said I'd heard some bad reports on Samsung. He just smiled.
    Doesn't make me feel better.

I think most electronics and appliances today are no longer made to last. It’s unfortunate.

And furnaces. An old furnace would last 20 to 30 years. The new high efficiency furnaces have 2 air exchangers, Moisture from #1 turns into acid and eats at the metal in #2....and the furnace is finished. A new high efficiency unit lasts about 12 years....which is what ours did. I told the guy, get me an old style low efficiency furnace....I will save a pile of money because it will last 30 years instead of 12.

Truly a con game....they could design them right, but, it is planned obsolescence.

I’ve seen this ad on TV for CARVANA that claims you can buy a car from them and complete not only the deal and paperwork online, but they will also deliver the car to your home “OR” you can visit one of their “vending” machines and pick up your car there.

I am not known by my friends and relatives as a gullible dork, but this claim by CARVANA that they have “vending machines” you can use to pick up your purchased car has me a bit stymied.  In the ad, there is no semblance of “tongue-in-cheek” nuances that would indicate that “they are only kidding about the vending machine”.  So maybe I am a “gullible dork” after all and have been able to hide and/or mask this personality trait from everyone including myself!  :o

Am I to believe there are vending machines scattered coast-to-coast that can be accessed to deliver your new car if you have the correct “token” to slip into its slot?  Or am I just a GULLIBLE DORK:'(:DB)

Grapes and strawberries and things like that from refrigerator had gotten warm but that's not a problem. Expensive deli chicken grape salad and tuna salad from a primo grocery in the upscale area was too warm. Will bill for that. Had lots of sliced cheese in fridge but it was still cool so should be okay. Not cold, but cool.

In freezer Lost some hamburger and crabcakes, but the packaged frozen vegetables had barely thawed. Lower part of freezer was getting cold by convection from the evaporator so that stuff is good. That's where a lot of meats were.

Took everything to a friend's house a few blocks away and it fit in their fridge.

Our neighbor used to have a second fridge in garage, but I recalled he had dumped that when it failed. We could have put stuff there which we had done in past.

lol explorer. I think mine was an early model for filters....before they perfected it and got a lot of complaints. The easier it is to change the more likely people will be willing to buy and change filters. Great business, before you bought a fridge and that was it for 30 years, now they last 12 years and you have to put in a filter every 6 months at $20 a pop.

Exactly the same as our Kenmore (LG) is.
I have a Whirlpool side-by-side - the water filter door is outside at the very bottom of the freezer door.  The only way to change water filters is to get on your hands and knees, open the little door, pull out the old filter and put in the new filter, and then close the door which seals the filter.

If I had known this before, I would never have bought the fridge.  So, being 74 years old a week from today, and having a slew of physical ailments, I put 4-5 pillows on the kitchen floor and buffer myself so as not to strain anything while changing filters.

I hope I live long enough to buy a new refrigerator - and the first question I will ask the salesman is, “...so where is the water filter and how do you change I!”  I’ve learned something in my old age!  :p

The Lowes warranty person asked if I wanted her to send me the claim form as she was making the appointment with the local A-Z company for Friday. Came by email.

I had used A-Z before so I called them directly and asked if they could speed it up. They did.

I'm betting that since we mitigated the loss on food claimed by expeditiously getting it moved to a refrigerator elsewhere, the warranty will pay for the dorm fridge that I bought from Walmart, thinking we'd just use it a couple of days. And store it or find someone with a college student or donate to Goodwill.

I never would have thought I'd have a problem like this.

They raced this car. Dollar General pulled out of NASCAR. This car is RWD. 5.7L V8, 850HP. It was a beast! Twitchy until you got it up to speed (around 140 MPH). Once up to speed, driving it made sense. You could hold a line. Wrecking or hitting a wall (especially on the banks) wasn’t as much of a concern.

Of course, there were only two cars on the track. Put a crowd out there? I would imagine it gets really hairy really quickly! I’d probably kill myself and someone else in the process in a crowd.

We always referred to our '66 Newport as the Jolly Green Giant, but other than that, I haven't had even a nickname for my cars or trucks. My kids, on the other hand, both (until recently) had blue Nissan Versa hatchbacks which they referred to as VB1 and VB2 :)
Back in my single days I would name my car after the first girl I took on a date with it. After I got hitched I stopped naming cars. However I did name my Motorcycle Minnie.

That sounds like a fantastic price for a 50-gallon electric hot heater installed.

I am in the market for a 40-gallon, 12 year warranty electric hot water heater as well. Installation will be at least $159 and the disposal cost of the old another 20 bucks or so.

I am not tied to a brand name per se, any recommendations?

    @abacomike,
Our kitchen fridge has air and water filters. Make sure you ask about both!

Air filter! Oh, just another filter to replace. I have no idea why you would need an air filter...I never noticed any noxious smells emanating from our refrigerator.

Took everything to a friend's house a few blocks away and it fit in their fridge. Our neighbor used to have a second fridge in garage, but I recalled he had dumped that when it failed. We could have put stuff there which we had done in past.
Wow....what an inconvenience! I wonder how easy it is to make a claim?
Quite easy to make a claim actually but be prepared for the depreciation hit.

Thanks, explorer, didn’t know there were air filters as well on the new ones.

Where do they put it....at the back underneath?

Having lived for a while in Indianapolis, and been relatively close to Indy a good portion of my life, I'm more of an Indy Race fan.

But, a few years ago while on a business trip I was offered a tour of Daytona Speedway, and allowed a few laps in a NASCAR set up. Had to do some training and have a certified driver next to me, but the fastest I've ever gone on 4 wheels came in that car. Probably the biggest automotive thrill of my life

Do they use Camry's to race? Are they using FWD cars now? Wouldn't a RWD car win easily over a FWDer?
They raced this car. Dollar General pulled out of NASCAR. This car is RWD. 5.7L V8, 850HP. It was a beast! Twitchy until you got it up to speed (around 140 MPH). Once up to speed, driving it made sense. You could hold a line. Wrecking or hitting a wall (especially on the banks) wasn’t as much of a concern.

Of course, there were only two cars on the track. Put a crowd out there? I would imagine it gets really hairy really quickly! I’d probably kill myself and someone else in the process in a crowd.
I thought these cars were supposed to be like the same car we can buy, only beefed up. You mean they can change it all and use the body and it is still a Camry? It seems only the skin is a real Camry.

I have seen a lot of 2019 VW Tourags these days. They haven't been out long but they must be selling really well. They look pretty substantial, and must sell at a good price. People forgive and forget quickly.

    They look great!

Stopped off at Costco for gas this morning.  $3.04.9 a gallon for PUG.  That’s 40 cents a gallon less than any other TopTier PUG within 6 miles of where I live.  That is a significant delta.  Costco was at $299.9 a gallon for PUG on Monday.  Prices are sure going up fast.

Consider yourself lucky, here regular is just north of $3.00 a gallon with PUG around 70 to 80 cents a gallon more.

That seems so cheap! Been $3.50 for a long time here... :(

They ditched the Touareg and redesigned a full-size SUV, naming it "Atlas." Much larger than the Touareg it replaced, but has NO diesel engine offering, which is just a shame. I've seen many around here, too, so they MUST be popular, because we don't even have a VW dealership withing 300 miles....

    @driver100,
Based in Imidazol97's picture, I think you installed your refrigerator upside down. :)

That's my belly laugh for the day.

IT rreally is easy to change the filter. I only do it every year and a half or so. There are only two of us. The electronic screen on the front of the water dispenser is programmed to replace filter every 6 months. Fat chance. Too dang expensive unless you buy the off brands from China.
We have a Samsung that we bought when we redid the kitchen appliances in 2010, it also has the filter at the top right of the fridge compartment but I have never changed it. I think it is programed to be replaced every year. At least that seems to be the time period when the display shows a pink filter symbol. That is my reminder to get ready to replace the MUCH larger inline filter I installed in the basement where the water line is tapped off for the water supply line to the kitchen fridge. I get it at one of the big boxes. The one that is installed now is a GE but over the years I have used other brands as long as they fit the connecttions on the supply line running to the fridge. As best I as I can remember it costs around $12 and the capacity is greater than the filter in the fridge.

You guys might want to look into this since it's cheaper and has more capacity.

Well, just because you ask doesn't mean we have to give you an answer, but yeah, sorta.

Anyone looking to replace their electric water heater should strongly consider upgrading it to a heat pump unit. The heat pumps are somewhat more expensive (maybe upwards of 50%), but they will pay for themselves, and probably then some (depending on climate), within 2-3 years.

my LG has the same top load cartridge. I think it is about 6 months when it asks for a new one. I usually reset it and do it the next time. I know when it really needs it when the water stops flowing out normally.

I buy them in bulk through discount filters (I think it is called) online. When they have a big discount. I think the last time I paid $50 something for 6, and they included a 10 pack of magic erasers which was nice.

You have to be the only homeowner I know that doesn't have a beer fridge in the basement/garage. :'(
