My son and I attended the inaugural race at the Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We had a ball; great seats, too...
I watched a bit of the practice not knowing about the track changes in advance. It was beyond ridiculous, like they were driving on oil. I caught the last part of the race on Sunday and it was almost as bad. These cars simply do not turn at the speeds they were running. It seemed almost like the organizers were counting on lots of wrecks to hype interest. Maybe the last race of the year should be moved to Islip on Long Island for a figure-8 demo derby?
I would READ other reviews about the NISMO before buying....and I mean real buyers reviews. Many people had major problems and are sorry they bought this car. One mechanic had this to say, ". This car looks upscale and the interior is very nice. Unfortunately, this is thin veneer over a very cheaply made car that in my opinion will not last for the long haul." (Bryan)
I am playing devils advocate....but, I wouldn't go by one youtube young kids video review. EDMUNDS REVIEWS
While I am not sure about it but reading his post might he be getting a commission on everyone sold. After reading his post I might be interested in one if I was looking for a car. But it would include reading other reviews and seeing what others say. Which apparently would cause me to have second thoughts.
So, you are now relegated to reading his posts. Tough spot you put yourself in but that's what happens when you burn out your scroll wheel on his other posts. Maybe your next mouse should be a water cooled jeweled bearing job like mine.

There really weren't a lot of yellows in the race, and the only big shunt was when Keselowski went straight off in Turn 2. I liked the race; it was a real change from a circle track or a pure road course.

Used cars are supposedly selling well but the purported good deals bandied around is nowhere to be found in or around Boston. What gives?
Similarly, one would expect great deals on new cars but dealers are not yet ready to offer significant discounts. Not sure why, perhaps they are better able to manage their inventories or the stories of strong used car sales are more hype than reality.
I received the title in the mail today for the Accord, last payment drafted on 9/23 and on Saturday 9/29 we made the last payment on the Pilot!
I know the feeling.
For the longest time we never had car payments but I bought 2 or 3 year old used cars when I was raising a family. I'm happy to say I never had a problem with any of them. Then came the new car low interest loans after I got rid of the kids. Did a couple of those and I still have 2 years to go on the '15 Genny with a 0.9% loan. Too good to pass up 5 years on a deal like that. But, you'll have your best feeling when you pay off your house, if you haven't already. We did that a couple months ago after getting a low, at the time, 15 year 4.25% loan on the house when we refinanced. When I wanted to refinance back then, Mrs. j said, "why are we playing around with house payments at our age? Let's just pay it off and be done with it already". I had to explain, although she really knows about investing a nice chunk for the long haul. Finally convinced her to do the refinance. Now, feeling rich without a house payment, she wants to "payoff the car and be done with it already". Had to relearn her about the money thing.
I've said this before, "having her get monthly reminders about a car she didn't think I should get is kinda dangerous for me".

Well, the worst has happened. Our Whirlpool refrigerator doesn't.
2 years 8 months.
My wife said yesterday it had made a funny sound earlier. I checked and things were fine. This morning at 9, I noticed water dripping from the ice dispenser/water dispenser. It was the ice cubes melting!!!!
Called for service under 5-year warranty. Friday morning is first opening.
I called the service company Lowes was using--they've done two calls for me before. They said when they have a "no cool" they try to work them in earlier. She passed request to the scheduler and they would call me when they know something definite.
We moved frozen stuff that was still frozen to friend's refrigerator and squeezed in the stock of refrigerator things. We often stock up on sliced cheese when Kroger has a good sale, so quite a bit of it.
I bought a small dorm refrigerator at Walmart at 2 pm so we can have things in the house.
I can write a review of the Galanz refrigerator 2.7 cu ft from Walmart if anyone is interested? It makes noises of gurgling freon going through the coils. Life is rough.
My wife insisted on keeping our old (circa 1990) kitchen fridge when we upgrade a while back. Probs 18 cf. out in the garage. I’m happy I finally got her to agree (at threat of having it hauled away) to only turn it on during thanksgiving when we host. Though it came in handy when the the main fridge died a few years ago.
I do have my sons old dorm fridge plugged in for beer, water, soda.

How about windows, ha. We finally broke down and replaced the original windows last week they were 25 years old and well overdue for replacement. Seals were broken, latches starting to break, several wouldn't stay up on their own so they stayed shut all the time.

I learned how to drive around 1962 using my mothers Hillman Californian and later VW Beetle. I guess that is why I don't like slow gutless cars.
I learned to drive stick on Dad's '66 VW Fastback. I learned how to drive in Mom's '68 Buick LeSabre (IIRC it was a V8 400 c.i.), automatic transmission, of course, and Mom and Dad's '73 Plymouth Gold Duster. I would later buy the '73 Plymouth Gold Duster from Dad. Slant 6 engine, reliable and very easy to drive that car. Both of the automatic's were effortless to drive and steer. The LeSabre I could chirp the wheels very easily, the Gold Duster, not so much.
I learned to drive stick on my brother's 74 Beatle. Dispite the non-existant leg room it was actually fun to drive.

I'm having similarproblems with our land line phone. Two weeks without service while they tell me they're "working on the cable". The fix date keeps getting pushed back as they try to upsell me to FIOS. Finally today a tech shows up without notice telling me he's here to install the fiber optic system.
Huh? No notice, no nothing.
I tell him switching over is not my understanding so he calls his office and they tell him it will be fixed by tomorrow. I give him the broom.
5 minutes after he leaves someone calls from Verizon to tell me they can't fix the copper cable and I have to take the fiber or go pound sand.
What the heck? The tech says they'll fix it tomorrow and 5 minutes later it can't be fixed? Installing fiber requires a lot of rewiring and disruption and I'm seriously considering telling THEM to go pound sand and just use Trac phones.

@roadburner, Did you have a scanner? That can make it a lot more interesting. I got one many years ago, but went to a race in the summer 2017. Bought a new battery and it was good to go after sitting for about 8 years. Found a frequency list from 2006 in my bag. Some teams still used the same frequency! My daughter came up with the idea of tying the car # to the frequency, so it was easy to get to who you want to listen to. Would have liked to hear what 48 and 78 teams were saying!

I would be happy to switch to Fios, but VZ didn't wire my neighborhood even though they were in town. I think because we have underground utilities, and they did not want to bother.

How old is it? We got a Whirlpool when I rebuilt the kitchen about a year and a half ago. I am wondering how much longer I have.
It's 2 years 8 months. I could not hear the compressor this morning so thought the worst. But this afternoon noticed the lower part of the freezer was cold but top warm, so apparently compressor was running but no evaporator fan was blowing the air over it and out to the rest.
I took out the shelves and found a diagram of parts on Whirlpool so I knew where the screws were. I took off the plastic air ducts at the top. Removed 4 screws on the metal plate over the evaporator at the back. It's not frozen like it would be from failed defroster coil or bad thermostat for the defroster. The evaporator fan is near the top. I can spin it and it doesn't make noise llike a bad bearing. I guess it just failed.
I can't get the "dang" metal cover off. Must have clips on the back or something. So I'll let the warranty repair take care of it. Otherwise I'd go buy a new blower motor at the parts place downtown.

Really? Stunned they wouldn’t have hit areas like yours. We have Fios, but when I compared apples to apples with Comcast it was the same price. Everything works so I felt no need to change
they did our town some years ago, but skipped some neighborhoods for whatever reason. I assumed it was because when it was built (early 90s) all the utilities were put underground, and it was too expensive to make it worthwhile.
rack rate is probably comparable, but at least when you join you can get 1-2 years at intro promotional price.
oh, meant to tell you, I decided to give your buddies at Burns a try in a few weeks when I take my car in for an oil change. Printed off their coupon, so good price, and a hell of a lot more convenient than schlepping over to Philly. Will take advantage of being there to scope out whatever is new. Though they really need a bigger showroom.

Cool, let me know what you think. They have always done a great job for me.
Still stunned they were able to fix my Genesis while I had it.
Driving on the highway, car would loose all power. It did that at least 5 times. Other times I’d walk out to it and it would have no power to anything despite a fully charged battery.
It took about three trips (and two Hyundai service tows) before they conferenced with Hyundai corporate who told them to clean and re-torque every single ground point on the car.
Once they did that it was fine for the remaining time I had it. This happened fairly early on in ownership (first year, under 10k IIRC).
They really screwed up NASCAR---they killed the golden goose. Putting some people who weren't even race drivers (ahem!) in there for publicity didn't help either. Lots of sponsors are pullin out.

Absolutely. The decline is shockingly quick, too. The usual thing this season is to see entire grandstands empty and blocked off, with plenty of empty seats even in the ones that are still in use. I can't point at any one thing that killed it, but it was a lot more fun to watch 10-20 years ago.

I just had a new high efficiency Coleman (York) installed and got no such warning
@imidazol97 Sucks about such a fairly new fridge. I’m going on 7 years with our Kenmore group of kitchen appliances. Fingers crossed they keep going for awhile
.
Keeping it under 70F is just until the old one gets replaced. One exchanger has gone so we don't want too much C2 produced........that is why we can't go over 70 until the new one is installed.
I'd rather have a fridge go than our furnace. It is only 12 years old, but these more efficient ones have 2 air exchangers and they seem to breakdown quite frequently. Replacing them is expensive, so our furnace guy said it is probably better to replace the furnace with one that has newer technology. He has always been very honest and good to us in the past....some repairs were way less than expected.
So, the Payne is getting replaced with a Keepright....and I know both brands aren't at the top of the list. We don't have much choice, that is the brand he is pushing, he can do it October 15th, and we fly to Florida on the 24th - no time to mess around. I can't spend years fantasizing about what furnace I want, and then keep changing my mind. It sounds to me like you're being fed the typical line by a "trusted" HVAC scammer. If I were you I'd jack up the thermostat to 75 to be sure.

I've always found NASCAR to be somewhat boring, races are way to long. 3, 4 or even 500 miles is way to long to just sit and watch a bunch of cars drive in circles. Give me a 30 lap run on a quarter mile oval any day.

A lot of things are biting the dust these days. I was just reading how some high schools don't have enough interest to get a football team together. Golf is really fading, takes too long, too expensive, and young people aren't interested. Young people aren't that interested in cars and they really aren't interested in watching a car race. Young people want computers and cell phones......and that is it!

Driver, tastes change. It has always been that way. If people are losing interest in Nascar, something else will replace it. Hey, back in the old days, Burlesque was big too!
I like cars of course, but Nascar never really interested me much. Sprint cars, on dirt, that is fun to watch. Midgets and the littler styles, love those.
Hey, let the man dream. Every enterrprise starts with dreaming about it first.
I'm checking in. I've decided on the Nissan Sentra NISMO for my next car. It is going to be affordable enough for us to buy, the countdown has started, I just need to pick the right time to buy it. Simple as that. The base model S is not going to be enough car for me, perhaps for the Mrs. Not me. It is in the dream stage right now, as simple as that. Like shifty says, the man can dream, can't he?
The one in El Paso at the used car dealer is still there, it's been there for months, it's only got 6,800 miles on it. Silver in color. $17,975 - I would offer $16,000.
Just my opinion, Going forward, Nascar's big problem is that 'Stock' cars are becoming irrelevant. Looking back, too many 1.5 mile tracks that are too similar, ubiquitous 'car of tomorrow', television dictating too much, playoffs took away from the uniqueness of each race. I could go on.

farmer, do you have cable (what is it up there, time warner?) If so can do phone through them. Usually cheaper to bundle it all together anyway. Plus you must have internet through somebody.
I would be happy to switch to Fios, but VZ didn't wire my neighborhood even though they were in town. I think because we have underground utilities, and they did not want to bother.
I can get the phone bundled with cable and internet through Spectrum but I always wanted a land line seperate because if the cable went out I would always have phone service. But now with this lousy treatment by Verizon I might just go that route and keep my Trac phone as a backup.

Similarly, one would expect great deals on new cars but dealers are not yet ready to offer significant discounts. Not sure why, perhaps they are better able to manage their inventories or the stories of strong used car sales are more hype than reality.

Did you have a scanner? That can make it a lot more interesting.
I got one many years ago, but went to a race in the summer 2017.
Bought a new battery and it was good to go after sitting for about 8 years.
Found a frequency list from 2006 in my bag. Some teams still used the same frequency!
My daughter came up with the idea of tying the car # to the frequency, so it was easy to get to who you want to listen to. Would have liked to hear what 48 and 78 teams were saying!
