Ha ha, I'm sure CL has a section for selling lower case souls but now that I mention it, that may have been the personals section where they use to have all the hooker ads. :o

Iluv, your step-by-step car searching experiences have been a kind of SAGAsimilar to the Lief Erickson stories of his search for “new-found-land” (Newfoundland).

In some cases (car-buying activities), it’s better to “secretly” and “inconspicuously” search for, and buy, your car before letting anyone know what car you bought.  It adds a sort of “anticipation”  and ”surprise” to the entire car-buying process for those of us who enjoy reading a good “car-buying” story.

Further, it limits stress to you because no one, including spouse, knows what’s happening until the car-buying process is completed.

When I would go out to buy a car (an annual or semi-annual activity until recently), I did everything secretly until I began signing the paperwork - at which time I would always call my spouse (until her death) and tell her the “good news”.  How my marriage lasted 22 years is something I will never understand.  But I never divulged the fact that I was going to buy a new car to anyone until the process ended with a brand new car.  Why, you might ask!  Well, it’s simple.  If you divulge your intention, you end up defending your position to your wife, friends, and even parents - all who will attempt to stop your exploration.  Who needs all these negatives in one’s life.  Just added stress!  B)

So my advice to you is to inconspicuously find, then buy your car in a very unstressful manner.

    Read this S-L-O-W-L-Y jm:

New York's economic development agency approved a $1 million grant to Cadillac to help with the $12.7 million renovation of the Manhattan headquarters.

Morrissey said GM did not draw down any of the incentive funds "but we are thankful and appreciative of the support we got from New York."

Jason Conwall, spokesman for Empire State Development, New York state's main economic development office, said the state is disappointed in the move, but understands "this is a business decision being made by GM to co-locate the Cadillac headquarters with the rest of its corporate headquarters."

He confirmed that the state did not disperse any of the $1 million performance grant to GM.

Seems tax incentives weren't the reason!
I don't know, NY has a lot of different ways to hand out taxpayer money to crony capitalists. There are many different incentives to the favored few. 1 million sounds like chump change.
Chump change is right. It surprises me that a guy who once owned his own business would think a GM division the size of Cadillac would walk across the street or even roll over in bed for a million bucks let alone move their headquarters to another state for that measly amount.

The more I hear from this guy the more I scratch my head.

If you just gotta have a Sentra, that's the one to have. Offer 16K.

All right, well, I'm still driving the 2011 Kia Soul 5-speed base, but now I've turned my attention to a beautiful specimen of 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO 6-speed. I've found one in El Paso at a used car dealer. Price is $17,995 and the miles are 6,800. For miles that low that is a decent price. The car retails for $24,990. Nissan does a few extras for the NISMO Sentra including a small spoiler, no sunroof, though my wife and I don't need a sunroof.

Anyone with half a brain should realize that the i3 is a city car- although the newest iteration does have a 140 mile range. No issues with using ours. If you are borderline senile and constantly forget to plug it in you will have a problem, but that’s about it.

If Tesla goes belly up I bet VW is ready to swoop in and pick up the pieces. They have a 100,000 electric unit factory in the US and they have been heavily promoting electric cars in their new ads. (Kind of insulting where they imply that driving gas is stupid and no fun).
I don't think this will hurt Tesla as much as Tesla itself might hurt Tesla. Musk is still on the board--just not chairman, and his settlement, while forcing him to not be allowed to disavow his mistake, doesn't imply fraud.

So this ruling may not legally interfere with any funding he might seek.

    Tesla needs money, bad.

Nissan does a few extras for the NISMO Sentra including a small spoiler, no sunroof, though my wife and I don't need a sunroof.

It has NissanConnect, Bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls, and such, but it's the special sills, spoiler, extra front end lighting and distinct labeling on the car that makes it an interesting proposition. I seem to really love the Nissan Sentra line, but I don't think the base model would keep me satisfied in the long run. For another $5,000 the NISMO line wouldn't definitely do it for me. It's not selling at this dealer, the dealer gets good marks from people as far as helping them with financing and such. I think I could do much worse. For a car with only 6,800 miles and the rest of the factory Warranty going to the buyer, I could do much, much worse. For instance, I've found '17 Nissan Sentra NISMO's (2017 is the first model year for the Nissan Sentra NISMO) on Car Gurus going for $18,995 and more, absolutely none for a price as low as $17,995.

Here's some pics of the car. It's silver.

What's cool about this quest is that El Paso is only 90 miles south of us. It would be ironic if I buy this car in El Paso. El Paso was where we surrendered our 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS against our will but because of cold, harsh reality. The car broke down on Highway 54 southbound to El Paso! I'll never forget it - it brings back nasty memories for me and the Mrs.

It'll just take an hour and a half drive and a pretty quick test drive to get this done. I have to decide on the timing. It'll never be the right time for the Mrs. - she thinks on a much different plane of thinking regarding cars that I do, though.

Great, let us know when you close the deal.

I assume you've read the comments by the auto press on that car. It seems that Nissan is the new Mitsubishi for snarky comments. That said, if you like it and can afford it without your wife hitting the roof, I say go for it. Sell your Soul on Craigslist unless you want to take a bath.

oldfarmer - yep, I know what you mean. I ask Nissan owners what they think about their particular Nissan. They love their Nissan's. I do enjoy MotoMan's Nissan Sentra Turbo 6-speed and Nissan Sentra NISMO YouTube videos, too. He's hilarious, he's intelligent and he's entertaining. If it's not fun, I don't want it.

roadburner - I owe you one, man. I was trying to convince myself that a base Sentra was gonna hold me. You're right, it won't. We just run one rig at a time and we can afford a NISMO payment, so I'm gonna go make a deal.

suydam, IIRC correctly you also commented on the fact that you didn't think iluvmysephia1 would be happy with a Nissan Sentra S. You are also right.

Man, abacomike, your post just rings so true to my heart. I finally realized that, as a car lover, absolute car lover, and a Nissan lover, I'd better just go buy my rig and then report back. I have posted so many times on here about this or that, but so far have not posted any positive punches. Well, here's my plan.

abacomike - you are absolutely right. I seem to be obsessed with Nissan products. I will buy this '17 Sentra NISMO 6-speed (I don't think they make an automatic CVT NISMO Sentra, but I've certainly been wrong before) and go about taking fine care of it. I watched MotoMan burn out on takeoff in the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo 6-speed and it was so nice to see. I don't see myself feeling devoid of power in the NISMO Sentra 6-speed at all and I'll be happy with it, at the same time I would love to score an old '68-'72 Datsun 510 sedan stick, too.

I have to say - Edmunds has been a long, strange trip to be a part of. I've been here since the year 2000 when I drove a 1999 Kia Sephia 5-speed stick. The only car since then I've owned that's not been a stick was our '08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. I loved that car, and, yes, I played extensively with the CVT paddle shifters. Not the same thing, gentlemen. With the NISMO 6-speed, I'm going to enjoy rowing my own gears to the full.

New Mexico has a lot of wide open spaces to open up the gearmode, and I aim to open them up and let the engine play to it's heart content. As for the Mrs., she'll get over it. She married someone who absolutely loves cars and loves driving them. She'll get over it.

New Mexico is a wide open country, car lovers. If you ever get the chance to come down here and drive the open highways, do it. Cloudcroft, NM, is one place to start. The Sunspot observatory was created to observe the sun at night. The readerboard outside describes the inside workings in detail. The Sunspot Observatory was created in 1947, those familiar with Roswell, NM, know that the year 1947 was very, very instrumental in carving out alien history.

abacomike - I also owe you one, too. I know you can't take a long road trip. If I'm ever down in Florida for anything over than a Molly Hatchet concert, I will try and get together with you for a drink. On me. Whatever you want. If it ends up two drinks, or even three....they'll still be on me.

Thank you, abacomike, I've been thinking those same thoughts. You see, in a Christian couple, the man is the one responsible for everything. The man has the last word. In the case of the 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO 6-speed, I have the last word. My decision is to trade in, take the nasty dealer hit (oh I won't just roll over and play dead, though...if they won't offer over $2,000 for my '11 Kia Soul, I'll walk away). I'll let you guys know what happens. Right now, Tuesday afternoon is my first chance to get away and stretch my wings. B) If you don't think I'm serious about a purchase, remember the Alamo, brothers. Remember the Alamo.

driver100 - I never went to Phoenix to trade in the '11 Kia Soul 5-speed for the base Super Black 2018 Nissan Sentra S. Don't look at that as a sign of weakness, look at it as a sign of super-human strength. And if you can search YouTube for any Social Distortion videos, please listen to them. They are a great band!

yup - tried that, but still ended up with this new profile, infact when I tired to use murphydog it told me another member had that profile...
Hard to believe you had a problem with the new seemless system. Let me introduce you to another new member. Hi, I'm @jmonroe1, I'm sure you know what happened to @jmonroe. :@

Hello Carnaught I'm houdini2. Thank goodness Edmunds isn't my online broker. You would think there would be some way Edmunds could fix this for us but they don't seem to care.

I hope I don't have to sign in as driver200, no one will recognize me :@

And I will lose my 22000 posts - that makes me think, I wonder what I could have done with my life?

We're all in an alternate reality. When the Chicago Bears are 3-1 and Atlanta's Falcons are only 1-3, trust me, we're all in an alternate reality!

GG, don't know if you were referring to my post. I reported a post that looked like a scam and it was removed.

Well let's do the math about Cadillac.

    1. The worst year for Cadillac's reputation: = 1980-81

    2. When most people eligible to buy and drive a car in 1980 were born: = 1962

    3. The average longevity of a person born in 1962 = about 80 years, give or take.

    4. The year when no one will be alive to tell anyone else how bad Cadillac once was: = 2042

So, yeah, another 20 years or so before Cadillac gets back on its feet. :p

Hmm... so will the year of your birth that leads to when you were eligibile to buy and drive cars, make you always think certain brands are good/bad because they were hot or not at that point? Or at least make you lean that way?? :)

This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Brilliant tune from The Offspring called 'Gone Away.'

I think it's even more complicated than that---parents can instill prejudice into their children. So if Dad got badly burned on an ancient Cadillac from the 1980s, you'll still be hearing about it today, no doubt!.

I learned how to drive around 1962 using my mothers Hillman Californian and later VW Beetle. I guess that is why I don't like slow gutless cars.

See? I'm right. No matter how good the 2018 Hillman is, Driver is probably not going to buy one. :p

You guys made me go scramble to find out what a Hillman was.....I didn’t know.

My late Father’s brush with automotive frustration was an ‘80s something Pontiac Parisienne (SP?). It was not a good car....at all. It was so toublemsome, I don’t think he even kept it a year.

From that point forward it was all Grand Marquis and Lincolns, which he loved!

It goes the other way too of course. From the line in "A Christmas Story" saying "My father was an Oldsmobile man" to in later years families being either Ford, GM, or Chrysler loyalists, to the Japanese invasion where parents drilled into their kids that only Hondas or Toyotas were worth buying... it has gone on forever.

I started driving in the early 90s, there are a few cars from that era that I liked when new and still like both the period and current versions (although might not necessarily want to or be able to own), so that might really play into it.

Parents help form it, too, no doubt. My dad was into old cars, and that stuck with me. They didn't have total brand loyalty though - my parents both liked Fords, but it wasn't exclusive. And we all probably remember any troublesome cars in the family fleet.
