Most property is cheaper, summer weather is better, mildly less of a rat race, better scenery and cleaner, lower cost of living, thriving job market, plenty of reasons. It's the reason why there's been an emigrant trail from CA to WA for the past 35 years.

Who is vilifying execs? I think some reading lessons are in order. The rest of that bizarre exercise in strawmen defies answer.

All one need do is think about it for a minute. Even mid to higher level executives, (the very same people you vilify) with moves paid for by their companies sustain financial $$’s hits. Why would your so called “lucky ones” want another mortgage for higher lengths of time, amounts, interest ? In some cases, they have NO mortgages.

Back in 1982 I was driving my Arrow 2.6 GT up I-75 from Lexington to Cincinnati to visit my girlfriend(now wife). As usual, because of the moronic 55 mph NMSL, I had my CB radio and V1 on full alert. I came up on an Olds Omega sedan in the right lane. I pulled into the left lane to pass and he sped up to keep pace with me. Every time I'd speed up so would he. About that time I heard the CB announcing that a cop was sitting on the next entrance ramp painting cars with radar as the passed. I floored it an Omega Man stayed with me to north of 85 mph. When the ramp was about a half mile away I slowed down to 55 while the Olds was still going at 85 or so. I next hear the CB announce that "The bear has got him a four wheeler!"
I beeped when I drove by as well...

You should have been arrested for that. I have to admit that I have done that a few times hoping a cop would be a little bit down the road but it never worked for me. The guys probably thought they kick my a s s. Well, at least we both had some fun.

You wouldn’t recommend an Altima based one ONE experience from a car you didn’t even own? That’s a standard I don’t think any car company could meet.

Maybe so but would you want to be stranded out in the boondocks because a transmission with a glitchy reputation failed exactly like it’s critics said it would? Still like the Altima but wouldn’t buy one with my own money. I’ve driven a lot of cars from $15 to 100k and never had a transmission fail like that. My research tells me that the Jatco CVTs are not ready for prime time.

Pretty soon they are going to want to live in your car.

What a nice place to raise a family once they decide to have kids, especially since Mr. & Mrs. Driver are not there 7 months a year.
That gets me....people who have 6 or 8 kids and they have no plan on how they are going to pay for them.....guess it is up to us.

You would be surprised how little space you need once you get older. Our home - home has 2400 sq ft, Florida home has 1400. We are perfectly satisfied with 1400 sq ft....2 bdrm, 2 bthrm, open concept kitchen, dining rm, LR. We each have our computer. Extra room and extra possessions just get in the way. Most "seniors" I talk to are happy to downsize, and feel better once they do it.

Not only downsize living space, but also a reduction in possessions such as clothing, jewelry, etc.  After I retired, I donated all my business attire to disabled veterans.  I don’t own a dress shirt, a tie, a suit or sport jacket.  I own 1 pair of jeans, one pair of dress slacks, a few sweaters and sweatshirts - and 7 pairs of shorts and 10 Polo golf shirts and a few other button down brightly colored shirts.  I own two pairs of dress shoes and 2 pairs of walking shoes.

I sold all my gold jewelry.  I kept my Rolex Rolesor watch which I am saving for my grandson and my Rado Jubilee watch for my other grandson.

Except for 30 year old furniture in my condo which is high quality stuff, that’s all I own - except for the condo which is free and clear.

When I pass on, there won’t be much to worry about.  I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair of dress slacks or dress shoes.

One of the great benefits of living in a warm climate is the significantly reduced need for fall, winter and spring clothing.  I slip on a golf shirt and a pair of shorts every morning with my walking shoes and I am good to go!  :D

I recalled Mike had said there was a gale warning in that area of FL.

The news that the local station wanted to report about was so short, they showed a video of a tree in Miami FL that had fallen on a car. They were really hard up for news that fit their bill. They ran the video over and over for what seemed like 45 seconds.

In Dayton OH they show video of a car in FL. Really.

Indeed! It’s all total fantasy! HOAX!

NYC, Boston, SF, etc.,etc., (three coasts) are supposed to be under 12 ft of ocean water, long ago? ! Last I checked all these places have, are still, will continue to build in those places they said will be 12 ft UNDER!

SF, CA let a ($B’s) University of California, San Francisco HUGE hospital complex be built on land 4 ft above sea level. As most know, complex’s like these have 30 year to 100 year life cycles.

Indeed the new Golden State Warriors basketball arena/stadium is near... water. The Giants baseball Stadium is built near/over... water.

In that posted video, after Scotty got done bashing Nissan transmissions he went on to some paint on rust killer that transforms rust into solid metal. I’ve read a few articles on it and it sounds like it could stabilize surface rust. I was wondering how it would work as a rust PREVENTOR. You know, paint it inside wheel wells or rockers.

I know back in the day Zebiart didn’t work too well.

It's like the people who buy a boat to "sail around the world". I mean, it can all be an adventure of sorts, but it's also hard work keeping up with all the systems and maintenance. A year's worth sounds about right to me.

Some of those RV rigs are pretty posh I gotta say. Kind of like a Ritz-Carlton on wheels.

I might consider a log RV---might be kinda heavy, though. :p

It’s funny how it works! Maintenance: Scheduled and unscheduled cured me of it. I saw a home property in the Grants Pass, OR with a very slick RV set up stubbed for: huge rectangular concrete pad, roof, sewer, water, electrical, gas, hot water, TV satellite, WiFi. Too many jobs, or too many more to over see

I visited a very expensive pusher RV (like an intercity bus chassis) one time. I think the owner paid something like $150K for the thing. It was certainly posh, but I cannot imagine driving a bus is very much fun after a while. Especially if you do what this guy did and towed a car behind it to use when they camped somewhere.

Some RVers claim "the freedom of the road" but driving a bus with a car behind it is freedom? Really?

I have a friend who turned a Sprinter into a camper and that makes more sense. It's pretty comfy inside, you can stand up (well, she can) and you can access campsites and other parking places where the monsters can't go or aren't allowed. Still, her rig wasn't cheap to buy or build out.

The bus gig seems good if one spend extended days to months in places. It also seems ideal as one can run a business from it. The car can be used for what cars are normally used for.

Either the bus and car and/or the Mercedes Benz Sprinter conversion can/do work & well.

The wife got the 411 from her colleague who spent north of $80 k for the extended chassis MB Sprinter. She offered to take us or let us use it for an extended time. She didn’t get the shower option. ?? But hey, one can take (rent a) showers at truck stops.

If I'm going to be hitting the road in an RV and needing to park at campsites and truck stops, whatever I build darn well better have my own shower and toilet. If I can't bring my own shower and toilet with me, I'm not interested.

When are you going? ...back to Canada, that is. I have started seeing trailer homes being towed north with Canadian plates on them. I assume they're coming from Florida.

I feel for them. I can see driving a nice comfortable car from Florida back North. But driving a heavy pickup with a silver trailer home has to be grueling. I can just picture going up the hills in TN.

I have zero desire to RV, and I think my wife has less. I can guarantee though if we were going to try, it would be in a rental to start.

Have a friend who wanted an RV for a long time. Retired, finally got one.
Paid over $100k, on his first trip to Florida it broke down in the middle of Nowhere Georgia.
He ended up waiting 5 days for a part to be UPS'd to him....and have it installed.
Not my idea of how you want to spend a few days on vacation.

Me either and, fortunately, neither does Mrs. Venture.

Friends are retiring within a year and are going to go RVing. I mentioned about how many nights you can spend in a hotel for the cost of an RV, but she has it all figured out. When they got married I always hoped she would eventually be more like him. It sadly turned out he became more like her.

    Charming.....sounds like the life!

Look honey, there's a truck stop, lets stop here and use the shower.

We get picked up by airport Shuttle Sunday at 9 a.m.
Fly to Toronto...leaving at noon. Expected arrival about 3:15.
My SIL/BIL left yesterday to avoid the huge end of the month crowd...who will leave on Mar 31 or April 1.
They should get home late tomorrow afternoon. 2 1/2 days of driving, or 3 hours by plane....we are spoiled now.
Some of those Ford F-150s with a trailer get about 8 mpg!
A pad to park the trailer on can easily be $1500 to $2000 a month.
We had friends with a 5th wheel. Not to be a snob, but you have to live the way you want, but, we had lunch sitting between 2 trailer homes.....with huge tires right next to us.
Not my idea of a good time.

I wonder what it feels like to fill up one of those big motor coaches with diesel--in California that's about $380 a tank.

Do truck stops have higher limits for charging fuel?
Any gas station I've been to has a $100 limit on a card.
Sometimes. I've had to break out a 2nd card to finish filling up.
