I think the key card is exclusive to Lexus: What Is The Lexus SmartAccess Card Key?
The Lexus SmartAccess system is a traditional keyless entry system, allowing the driver to lock and unlock the doors, open the trunk, and start the car, all without having to remove their key from their pocket. Sensors in the car detect the SmartAccess key, and then allow the car to be unlocked when you touch the door handle.
Well yes, the Lexus smart key card is exclusive to Lexus....and the Mercedes smart key card is exclusive to Mercedes. Google is your friend.
I tried......why not look it up and give me the link ?
Well, I am not surprised that you would have trouble figuring out how to use google.
I gave it a quick look - these days I don't have a lot of time. There is a lot to catch up on when you are away for 5 months. Today I had a doctor appointment at 9 to have a ganglion removed from my thumb....doc didn't see me until 10:30....they screwed up the appointment. I raced home at 11, took the dog out and changed for pickleball by 11:30. Ate lunch to noon. Raced to pickleball about 15 miles....took 30 minutes. Played from 12:30 to 3:15. Got home at 3:45, took dog for walk to 4:10, showered to 4:20. Read 2 newspapers until 5:50, then caught up on emails and checked C&C and you wonder when I have time to play around with google. If I didn't have a real life I would have more time for google.
Surprised that smart keys do not have a function like the "Find my iPhone" thing.
It would make sense and be easy to do. Since my experience lots of people tell me they are always looking for their keys.
Here's a suggestion you might want to try before buying another expensive MB fob:
Go find your mutt Trixie and put your second fob on the floor in the house where she can see it. She might pick it up like Hanks dog did and take off with it. Follow her to see where she goes, you gotta be quick here or you'll lose your second fob too. She just might lead you to where she put your other fob. Try it again outside. It might be a good idea to get Mrs. Driver to help just so you don't end up fobless with this suggestion.
Whatever you do don't come in here crying that @jmonroe caused you to lose your second fob because we don't want to hear it. :@
jmonroe
I hope you didn't try to solve any engineering problems with this kind of thinking. The odds of Trixie hiding two key fobs in one place is about 8 million to one. No, I am still waiting for someone to mail it back, or for houdini to give me the link.

One of my kids was so used to the code for our 02 Explorer, they programmed it for their 2017 Fusion.
If you can believe this ... my Grandfathers 93 Town Car factory code matched his license plate.
What on earth are the odds of that?
The code was 39339 and his tag was HG 3933
I used that same code on all my cars as well. I still have his plates as well (they were on the 04 Marquis when I got it)
The one thing you should always do with the system is not use the factory code so you can change it if you feel someone saw you key it in. What I always thought was neat was the factory code was always there even if you programmed your own.
@tjc78, One of my problems is, having had so many of those vehicles with the keypad, if I have a senior moment, I might enter one I had 3 or 4 cars ago.

Your cell phone can replace all the smart fobs.
Uh ... No, it can't. It can't replace either of mine. The key fob for the Town and Country has electrical contacts on one end which are necessary to start the car. And the key fob for the F150 has a "switch blade" key inside.
So no go for either of my vehicles.
Same for all but one of my cars.

I don’t make it a habit of ordering things online because of some bad experiences I have had in the past.
I joined Amazon Prime recently for their streaming movies and other entertainment so I ordered a Remington electric razor a few months ago and the pricing was outstanding. So I took a chance and Wednesday ordered a pair of Rockport Pro-Walkers (walking shoe). They are hard to find now that they are only sold online at their web site but Amazon had them. They retail for $100 a pair but I got them from Amazon for $49.99 + tax - next day shipping is free with Prime. I tried them on and they are perfect!
I guess I have become an online shopper after all!

I am happy that you had success with buying shoes on line. Shoes are one thing that I don't want to try buying online. My feet are not hard to fit but I have to try shoes on first before I buy them.
As for Amazon, I'd rather not do business with them because they are too big. It's a personal thing with me but it seems like every time I try it their prices are higher than Ebay. Earlier this week I bought a new razor head for my Norelco electric razor and Amazon was around 20% higher than Ebay and I would have had to pay shipping with Amazon vs. no shipping with Ebay. So I just can't understand all of the rage with Amazon. Maybe they know I don't like them so they don't like me either. Just yesterday we were talking about how computers know things about their users and how you have to be careful when using them. Amazon is probably a good part of the reason and Alexa ain't helping their image.

If you spring for Prime and get free shipping on everything it makes things much better. No, they aren’t the cheapest on all items but so many things are well priced and they have just about everything.
I don’t think a week goes by we don’t have something delivered.
We also have Prime Pantry so our grocery store trips are pretty much just for produce, meat and dairy. All the snacks, granola bars, cereal, etc comes from Amazon.

Amazon is great....you may pay slightly more but amazon makes it easy to order, especially with Prime. Plus you get reviews, it is easy to compare, delivered the next day....sometimes the same day.......almost fool proof.
Also, you can find things on amazon that could take years to find trying various sources. Amazon is the future.
my only concern is when they grow to be 80% of all retail sales....then their prices will really rise, it already has for books.

Speaking of work.... my wife and I have worked for the same company since we have known each other. That is coming to an end in a couple weeks.
My wife had a phone call from an Ex-colleague and well the rest is history. She will be starting a new gig after 11 years with the current company.
Huge step up and she will be working right in center city Philly. Good news is she will only have a quick ride to the train station and it’s the first stop once in the city.
It is going to feel odd not driving in together. Since child care is right near our job I’ll be taking over that duty two days a week. Car related it looks like she will taking the Elantra at least those two days a week and I’ll use the Enclave when I have the kids. Also car related now that we won’t be driving together mostly everyday I’ll be stepping up the budget a little bit in November when the Elantra goes back. What’s great is once September hits my 5 year old will be in Kindergarten and our child care bill gets cut in half. That bill went from almost $1500/ month in the beginning to just a little over $400 once September hits.
OK.. getting near @jmonroe post length... but if anyone remembers we were on the fence about private Catholic school or public school. After touring our public school we decided public was the way to go.
congrats T. new opportunities are always exciting. my wife and I were (until last september) at the same company, and both WFH toward the end. Actually kind of weird. But, she also heard from a former boss about an opportunity, so she took it, got a nice bump in pay, and moved on. Though now she works in an office, hence the miles being added to the RDX (and discussions about a different car for slogging in traffic daily on 295!)
Thanks! Funny thing how it happened. Her ex-boss got a call from someone in the industry head hunting her. She is at the end of her career and just didn’t want a long commute (lives by the shore) so instead of pursuing the job herself recommended my wife. It was still a tough process, she had two phone interviews and one 4 hour in person session with 5 different people in various roles in the company.
My kids are grown up, but I was in a group that had young kids and they were talking about day car. Very expensive, you had to sign up for full time 5 days a week and sign a year long contract.

Amazon shows listings for all sorts of stuff. But a good chunk of that is from "affiliates" who are paying to use their platform as a sales venue, and those prices are often ridiculously high. There is also stuff that Amazon has for sale themselves that is equally high-priced. They are not holding inventory but if an order comes in they buy it from the supplier and ship it. That is stuff they really don't want to sell but in the interest of world retail domination by having the broadest possible assortment of things they are willing to sell it to you if you want to overpay.
Like most things in life, whether or not they are the "best" choice to buy something from depends. I pick and choose.
And there will likely be something else that comes along in a few years that will take Amazon's place. There always is.

For sure. One retailer who is thriving though is Costco. There are certain things that Costco does well, and people want to go and actually wonder around and see new items and know they can get basic things at a good price.
We used to go on Sunday when they opened, could go in and be out in 20 minutes. Since we got back from Florida Sunday at opening time is like a mob scene.....parking lot full, long lines, now we have to go during the week......I can't stand waiting in their long lines and fighting for a parking space.

I think this hiring by committee is the new way to defuse responsibility for bad hires in an era when firing someone can result in all sorts of lawsuits, protests or violence.
Way back when, when I was ending my professional career I interviewed with a new company. They flew me in and put me up in a hotel. Interviewed with several people and flew home. A week later they wanted me to do it all over again with a different group of executives. By that time I had tired of the corporate run around and became a farmer instead. Best decision I ever made. As I flicked through some obscure cable channels I came upon an infomercial for a dealer called Gateway Kia in North Brunswick NJ. Lots of silly hype like with the “Billy” commercials.
They are strictly a monthly payment house. No actual sticker prices. I went their web site to find out what the actual prices were and found the same thing...just monthly payments without any indication of MSRP, options, interest rate or length of loan. Not even any indication of what options the cars possessed.
Any of you NJ guys ever deal with this place? Felt kind of slimy. Is that they way people buy cars down there?

For those saving for their next Buggati or high end vehicle consider parking your money in a high rate savings or CD.
Don't know why they are keeping it a secret but Citizens Access Bank is offering a 2.85% APY 1-year CD and 2.35% on savings. This is a strictly online bank (a subsidiary of Citizens Bank) and a $5,000 minimum is required to open. Considering the paltry 1.15% rate I'm getting right now its hard to pass up such attractive rates.
Does anyone have experience with these online savings banks? What are the risks and downsides? comments appreciated.

I got the calculator out and if I did this right isn't 2.35% about $120 on $5000. 1.15% would be $57. It's a big difference, but would I do all the work and transfer money from a real bank to a virtual bank that is desperate for money for $60?

I'm with you oldfarmer....no one would hire me at age 46 so I was forced to start my own business. I went for interviews....hated it, got treated like garbage, one place made me wait for 50 minutes before he was ready to see me. Never heard from them, not even a tough luck letter.......but, they were one of the first to go under when the book publishing business started to crumple.
I usually get my revenge.......
I think they have all these interviews partly to cover their butts, but also because there are lots of applicants for so few good jobs. I am glad I am no longer in the work force...much rather play pickleball.
Discover bank (which I assume is an online bank) offers 3% for a 5 years cd. I think my commercial bank offers about 2.8% for an 18 month.
Interest rates are going up although the fed indicated they are through for this year. Might be a good time to lock in a good rate.

Being your own boss is the only way to go.
These days corporations make everyone jump through hoops. I even had to interview with several people to get my current minimum wage retirement gig.
I'm with you oldfarmer....no one would hire me at age 46 so I was forced to start my own business. I went for interviews....hated it, got treated like garbage, one place made me wait for 50 minutes before he was ready to see me. And he was the obnoxious son of the owner, telling me how lucky I would be working for them if I got the job. Never heard from them, not even a tough luck letter.......but, they were one of the first to go under when the book publishing business started to crumple.
I usually get my revenge.......

Trust me, you are not the only one! So...if there are left over resentments.... one needs to get over them already!
It has been an open secret, for a long time (50 years+) , but age discrimination happens @ late 30’s to early 40’s. Indeed most to all systems, industries, have been, are, will remain in 24/7/90/365 “creative” destruction modes.
Long gone are the days of 30 year employments, gold watch, going out to pasture with one’s dog/cows. Im not sure how anyone can say “FIXED INCOME” with a straight face.
Even the military, which as some people know has the so called 20 year retirement. However one is “not vested” until 19 years and 366 days (IF one can even make it there). If you enlisted/commissioned at 18/22 years old, one is 38/42 years old@ so called “retirement”.

One of my kids was so used to the code for our 02 Explorer, they programmed it for their 2017 Fusion.

So what's the big deal about a 21k oil change? Just wait for the $10 'oil change special' coupon.
One of my problems is, having had so many of those vehicles with the keypad, if I have a senior moment, I might enter one I had 3 or 4 cars ago.
On that Bugatti oil change -- all I can do is shake my head. There is an engineer / designer somewhere who should be shot.

See? You come to Edmunds and you save $20, 965 bucks, just like that!
Yeh, I'd like to see the Jiffy Lube boys try working on one of those. They would really earn their $8 an hour.

I don’t think a week goes by we don’t have something delivered.
We also have Prime Pantry so our grocery store trips are pretty much just for produce, meat and dairy. All the snacks, granola bars, cereal, etc comes from Amazon.

Also, you can find things on amazon that could take years to find trying various sources. Amazon is the future.
my only concern is when they grow to be 80% of all retail sales....then their prices will really rise, it already has for books.

Very expensive, you had to sign up for full time 5 days a week and sign a year long contract.
Luckily we never needed 5 days. We were at 3 days for a long while and then my mom is retired/bored and wanted another day so we are down to just two days.
For her it is actually great. It keeps her moving and she actually is doing more and more with them (park, lunches out, etc). My kids love their “Nonnie”

Like most things in life, whether or not they are the "best" choice to buy something from depends. I pick and choose.
And there will likely be something else that comes along in a few years that will take Amazon's place. There always is.

We used to go on Sunday when they opened, could go in and be out in 20 minutes. Since we got back from Florida Sunday at opening time is like a mob scene.....parking lot full, long lines, now we have to go during the week......I can't stand waiting in their long lines and fighting for a parking space.
I feel like Yogi Berra.....no one goes there any more because it is so crowded.
