Happy Halloween everyone! Cold and windy here in the Villle. Looking at 36 degrees during prime time trick or treating. Hope these kids show up...instead of staying indoors to play x-box. I have 10 bags of.candy to get rid of.
According to accuweather its 32 degrees but feels like 14. Its snowing and we might get as much as 6 inches by the time it's over. I dont think we will see many trick or treaters tonight. Frankenbush was blocking the way to our front door, maybe I shouldn't have cleaned it up last night then I wouldn't have had to worry about it.

hey, we're on the page number of my birth year (1973).
Anyway, halloween has gotten a bit out of control at my house. I made the mistake of creating a haunted house in our basement a few years back when the wife decided we should have a big halloween party. Everyone flipped out over it (I spent weeks creating various scenes within a psycho circus theme). Then it became expected. Wife spends a fortune on decorations. We have more halloween stuff than xmas stuff at this point. Yet the most elaborate and time-consuming elements I create with little-to-no purchases. And now this year my little one asked me to create him a costume, from which we built our whole house theme (he wished to be a "creepy" scarecrow, so we ran with that and went for a whole twisted Wizard of Oz theme).

I went out once on Halloween when I was maybe 6 years old, hated it, and have despised Halloween ever since. I don't like horror movies either. So there.
One of my kids sent me a pic of snow on their commute to work today(Wisconsin). We have towns cancelling Halloween due to the rain and wind. Temp isn't bad.

I'm in the process of buying a 2010 RAV4, AWD, right hand drive from Japan for my Caribbean home for $7,290 plus $2,450 freight, for a total landed cost of $9,640 CIF. But there's more. It will cost an additional 135% of CIF or $13,014 more for local government import fees, VAT, excise taxes and an environmental levy for vehicles more than 5 years old. Grand total $22,654. Not a bad price since the vehicle has only 42k miles on the clock. It will take 8 to 10 weeks for final delivery.
Furthermore, I am selling my old 1999, 2-door RAV4 for $9,370 USD, which further reduce my net cost. Images of the new vehicle.

Moving up one year for more than double the cost. The new one must be in much better shape. The depreciation is so high on my E400, that I am going to really try to keep it for as long as I can. Every time you trade you pay taxes, DOC fees, transportation costs etc., it would be nice to avoid that as much as possible. Just have to consider warranty, what new models are like, how the stock market is doing.....and a few other things.
New RAV4 looks nice......what is wrong with the old one?
Looks like Halloweenie here is going to be cold and getting colder and gusty wind! It's an unusually brutal cooling end to the summer season. I saw lots of local classic cars out being driven during the last two weeks. And it's depressing to know that most of those have now been put to be--up on blocks to prevent flat spotting tires, preservative in the gasoline in the tank, fresh oil in the sump, winter air in the tires. etc.. I'm going through a depression because car show and cruise season has ended. A couple of last gasps: a Hollow Ween trunk and treat by a tough old man's group that hosts a local cruise through end of October into November IIRC and a Saturday truck or treat postponed from last Saturday because of rain for a group that appears to have a lot of customized (ruined) old cars that show up. But many cars are already in their cocoons. They won't be showing up. Please send condolences.
You’ll have to soldier on with the occasional car show until spring. I’m thankful that it was a relatively warm October. A few years ago our first snow was in early October.

Now it's official, summer's really over as I got my first TPMS warning for left rear tire this am. Down 8-9lbs, quick fill up with my compressor. I'll check 3 others tonight or tomorrow morning when they're again cold.
Every car we delivered to dealers in the cold rain yesterday had a tire pressure light on. I just filled the tires on my cargo van and they were all down 5-10 lbs.

It's 90 degrees right now and tonight's low is going to be 80 degrees with humidity. This is not fun at all!

Same here. It is raw out there. Wet, foggy, high winds and cold. No Halloween tonight either.
They didn't cancel it here but trick or treaters here are as scarce as Hens teeth.
On the way home from work the roads were filled with trick or treaters. Here’s my boss today:
Hope I don't get fired for posting that.
Maybe it is just me, but what the ---- kind of costume is that? Is he trying to look like some kind of car rental clerk? And whats with the tie around his middle?

There was nothing wrong with the 1999 RAV4. For starters, it is a two-door and besides it is 20 years old. My wife and daughter hated the idea of taking turns squeezing into the back seat.

135% is low by Caribbean standards which is more like 150%. These islands are so stapped for cash that the IMF's prescription for raising revenue is to tax heavily non-food imports such as cars and electronics.
When we moved in 11 years ago we had 24, then it dropped by about 4 each year....the last year we were home for Halloween, 2 years ago we had 4 kids. We had to eat the extra chocolate bars ourselves!
The first two years we were married we lived on the third floor of a three floor apartment building, no elevator. The first year Mrs. j decided to buy three boxes of the regulation size candy bars. I'm pretty sure each box had 24 bars. I told her she was crazy, one box would have been enough. Trick or treat time starts and no kids are showing up. She keeps looking out the window and can see lots of kids walking around but no knocks on our door. She is very disappointed about this since she was looking forward to seeing the kids in their Holloween costumes. Finally, after about an hour, 2 kids knock on the door. She is so excited she gives each kid 3 candy bars. I said, "now you did it. We're going to run out of candy bars now". She asked why. I said, "those kids are going to go down there and tell their friends, the people up there are giving out 3 candy bars and they're the big ones too. We're going to be inundated with kids now". WRONG, they were the only kids that showed up that night. That's when I knew the kids of that generation were lazy. When I was a kid my friends and I would have camped out at an apartment house giving out candy like that.
I think half of my cavities came from that Holloween.

The weather dried out and I had over 40 kids. Still plenty of candy left over, so bringing it to work tomorrow. I'll binge on it, if it's still here.
It rained this AM, it was pretty much cloudy with passing showers the rest of the day. Took my kids trick or treating. When we got back to my block which has NO OUTLET, I flipped the tonneau cover open 2/3 of the way and let them ride in the bed. They LOVED it!

Yep, I’m gonna get fired.
Actually my boss is a terrific guy and is very tolerant with the group of misfits he has to manage. He showed us his costume that he was going to wear trick or treating with his kids right after work. He asked his wife to pick something out for him that wouldn’t be too embarrassing and he said she started laughing. This was the result. He is obviously a very devoted dad. I never wore a costume for my kids.
At every company office we went to yesterday the young (under 50) people were dressed in costume. All us old characters were dressed like guys on oxygen, using canes, limping etc. as usual.
And for your information, that’s Spongebob, a beloved kid’s cartoon character.

OK, you motor enthusiasts, here is my dilemma. The 2014 C250 has 32000 miles on it. It gets about 6000 miles on it while we are here for 5 months. It needs a 1 year oil change done in the next few weeks. Last year I changed the oil and filter and got an in cabin air filter replaced.
I don't think it needs the full A or B Service which costs about $400 to $600 and includes checking all fluid levels, checking all the latches, instruments etc....everything.
I am thinking go to the indie garage, get an oil change, filter, check power steering level, brake fluid level, and pulling one wheel to check brake level....estimate of miles left.
