Senior citizens being mistreated during shopping, even during special early hour. Sheriff posting various types of officers to protect them. Taking things from their carts. Shoving them. Story was on radio news through middle of the day.

I thought of Mike being attacked in the produce department when I heard this story.

    https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/local/coronavirus-clark-county-groceries-reserve-special-hours-for-seniors-risk-shop/5k5tDEK6imKgJBAuv4iXgJ/

"A Facebook post by the Clark County sheriff’s office highlighted some of the stores with the special shopping hours while another post explained deputies — some in uniform and others undercover — would be posted at every grocery store in the city of Springfield and throughout the county.Sheriff Deb Burchett told the Springfield News-Sun that was in response to reports of elderly people being treated poorly in stores in the area.

“I’ve received several messages from the public and from managers of the stores saying that the elderly people are being shoved around,” Burchett said. “People have been trying to steal out of their baskets. They’re trying to take their purses out in the parking lot, and I thought, ‘We can’t have this for our community. We’re better than that.’ So I decided that I would post an officer at every one of the stores when the elderly and at-risk are going into get their groceries to let them know we’re here for them whatever they need."

Tomorrow I'm going to gird my loins (don't ask) and stop at my Payson Safeway on the way up to the cabin, where I may well stay for the next six months, to hear some people tell it. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if the relatively rural situation is as messed up as the urban thing down here in the "valley."

That said, there's enough canned goods and other stuff to sustain me for quite awhile, with or without the ability to reprovision.

Who would have thought two weeks ago that we'd be here now?

In Kentucky Governor Beshear has shut down all non-essential retail businesses- including automobile dealerships. At least the two cars I'm looking won't be going anywhere, so there's at least one silver lining.

We have the same thing here in Illinois where the governor ordered all nonessential businesses closed, but essential businesses like bicycle shops, car washes and ice cream stands can stay open.

A church had a service with a group in attendance a few days ago--the one along I75 south of Dayton with the pond in front and the religious statue rising out of the water. I wonder how many other group get togethers and how many bars and such were open over the weekend here in Ohio, not respecting the separation requests

NY Gov. Cuomo alluded to people meeting in groups and not staying their distance in his longgggggg press conference a couple days back.

I suspect this played in Ohio Gov DeWine/s decision. I certainly don't think he has been bumbling nor fumbling.

IMID...that church caught HELL about yesterday. My neighbor is a member of that church and went to that service. He went on a tirade yesterday about the only reason they held those services was to hit the members up, not once, not twice, but three times for “tithes”. He said no help was offered for those members who were “up against it” (his words) from losing their jobs, needing some food, etc.

He said he’ll never go back.
Our church is currently holding services with no one in attendance and its broadcasted over Facebook. Our pastoral staff called all members to see if everyone was ok and if anyone needed anything.

Gas at $1.29 at lowest few stations. For PUG that's about $1.95.

Its hovering at around two bucks a gallon around here.

I wish Inslee was a little less wishy washy, and made a firm announcement with clearly defined lines around what is "essential". IMO these things need to be black and white - real lockdown or just let people wing it (not supporting that, fwiw).

I am sure condo and office construction will continue in my neighborhood, given the enormous influence had by real estate/construction/development sector and its connected industries. The other day it seemed most traffic on my street was dump trucks engine braking their way down a hill at 8am.

It won't last very long - prices like these end up with huge increases once demand picks up. It wouldn't surprise me to see $3.00+ a gallon for PUG in several months when surpluses are consumed and shortages occur.

But, let's enjoy it while we can. Let me see, I could drive from my home to the gas station a few thousand times so I could take advantage of this cheap gasoline or I could just close my eyes and envision a cross country road trip (2800 miles) that would cost under $150 for gas.

Someone bite me before I get carried away with this!🤪🤪😋😛

Actually, I ended up at Publix. They were out of almost all frozen veggies, toilet paper and paper towels, frozen Perdue and Tyson chicken dinners, most canned fruits, etc.

I got most of what I needed to get me through 10-12 days.

I waited in line for 20 minutes before they opened at 7:00 AM. Sure was packed, but luckily I got in the front of the line.

Driver, it isn't possible around here. We have 5000+ old people in my condo community alone most of whom use Walmart and Publix for deliveries. Remember, this is "God's waiting room" with people just awaiting for the inevitable - but in that waiting room, they still have to eat.

Given Ohio is under lock down as of midnight, I did one final run to Costco yesterday. Since I think I’m down for 30 days (not just the beginning of April), I made sure I got steak, seafood, chicken, frozen veggies/fruit, etc. I was already good on TP. I don’t need bottled water as mine comes out of my tap.

First time I saw Costco limiting numbers of people coming in. Parking lot was ½ empty, but there was a line to get in. They were only allowing 50 customers in at a time. They had plenty of everything.

But, I noticed this lady stock piling TP, paper towels and bottled water. Myself and another fellow politely told her they wouldn’t let her check out with any more than one package of each. She flipped us the bird and ignored our warning.

Sure enough, as I was in line to check out, there she was in another line giving the cashier grief. Finally, what I’ll assume was a manager, took her cart away from her and asked her to leave. She was fuming the entire way out, but left empty handed.

Well I saw a pretty good one on the 6 o'clock local news last night.

A woman who owns a small fitness club but also must be a practicing country lawyer is on camera proclaiming that since she didn't need a state license (PA), to open her club, the governor had no authority to tell her she had to shut her place down because he can't arbitrarily decide that her place of business is not essential. REALLY? I'm willing to bet when she showed up for work this morning, she saw that her place was chained and padlocked by the state. As everyone in here knows I ain't no real lawyer but when I was a practicing country lawyer, I know that if she removes those chains, that will get her a trip to the slammer. Which is well deserved.

We have a real lawyer, now a judge, in hear so I'd like him to comment what her chances are of beating this rap if she does remove the chains. Just curious, no sweat off my you know what's.
