That's my personal opinion as well. But he has been very science info oriented and has made decisions with transparency. Much better than the previous governor who practically changed parties. My son had told me about the previous governor's being different than presented when son was at The OSU.

I just placed an online grocery order for pickup on Thursday (could have gotten it as soon as tomorrow but don't need everything right away). Surprised how easy it was. Glad to not have to brave a store at this point as the govt today declared a state of emergency mostly to keep people distant from each other by closing malls, parks, etc. For the next couple of weeks the less contact the better I figure.

the next few weeks is likely the key to slowing the spread down enough to catch up on treatments, etc Miss this window and the math will get real ugly, real quick. Scientists are working like mad to figure out how to attack it but they need some time.

Mike, if you have to go out, try to figure out when it is not quite as busy, bring some wipes with you, make sure you wipe the cart, and try to get in and out as quick as possible. and wipe your hands down good (heck, wipe down your purchases). and plan your moves to avoid close contact. Can't completely remove possible contamination, but you certainly can lower the odds. I would say hold your breath for 45 minutes, but that might not be practical.

It is also interesting to see in a crisis like this, who comes up big (rises to the occasion) and who falls apart and is useless. Often the ones that do the most are people that previously had a bad rap or got made fun of.

You’ve got to think a week in advance. It’s too bad you waited till you’re out of items that you may not be able to get in person or by delivery. Try several different stores (you can do that with Instacart ) to see if you can get faster delivery with one. I ordered mine 2 days ago, it will arrive Tues night (so they say). It may be the best chance to actually get items as they will be filling those orders first. I was told a week as well, but when I placed the order I got a delivery date of Tues. You can keep adding to the order as well We found an Out of the way honor system market Near a farm where you just put $ in a box, that will see us through fresh veggies.

@abacomike try not to go at all! I’m sure you can get home delivery. With your health issues you need to stay home!

Suydam, I need milk, cheese, bread, coffee, frozen vegetables and entrees and meals, tissues, canned pineapple, tomatoes and bananas.

I tried to order for delivery, but they are so backed up it will take a week to get my order delivered and the can't guarantee frozen foods and dairy will be delivered in tact.

So it's me or I starve!
A few things. First, they can deliver all those items...they can keep frozen things frozen and same with refrigerated things. Get on a system, so you get them in a week, but start your next order in a few days so you can order on a regular basis. If a store will do pickups, the dates are usually close. We did this to fill in at Walmart, just drive into a parking spot, phone them, open the trunk, they put it in the trunk - I got out to press the button to close the trunk because if the kid tries to do it manually it messes it up.

We are getting about 2 deliveries a week, and usually one pick up for odds and ends. We are probably over buying on some things....forget what we ordered, but, who cares, gotta get through this.

This way of getting groceries is much easier and safer.....I am thinking it is important to keep your immunity system at maximum efficiency these days.

In Kentucky Governor Beshear has shut down all non-essential retail businesses- including automobile dealerships. At least the two cars I'm looking won't be going anywhere, so there's at least one silver lining.

if it is the same as NJ, they are only closed for sales. Still open for service. and a lot of places are still offering all electronic sales process. plus delivery. I think they can still do that as long as no one leaves their house to go shop at a dealer. of course, a couple employees have to be involved but still pretty minor interaction

Awaiting the lockdown order here in WA.

Nice graphic, I would add grocery store workers, delivery drivers, and restaurant workers to that - they are providing an unsung benefit right now.

Our governor has just "upgraded" to a stay at home order effective Monday night IIRC. Not much different than what's currently happening for us. We'll likely still drive to get lunch at the drive through. I'll go to the grocery, Kroger/Walmart/Meijer, and stay away from others. My wife is at risk as are some of us here. Perhaps I will wear a mask.

Non essential lockdown here in CT (where I live) and in NY (where I work). Wife works in the medical field (she’s a PT) and my plumbing supply is considered an essential business.

I would normally be excited about the $2.25 a gallon price for PUG at Costco ($1.75 for RUG) but I have had 3/4 tank of gas in the car for 10 days now with little prospect of using a gallon in the next 10 days. So gasoline at $1.00 a gallon for PUG would not excite me either!😩

Here in South Florida, parks, beaches, schools and colleges and all businesses and shopping malls are shut down except for food stores, gasoline stations, banks, restaurants that provide pick-up or delivery services, and medical/hospital facilities.

If this doesn't curtail the spread of covid-19 over the next 10-14 days, nothing will!!! This reminds me a little of the aftermath of hurricane Wilma back in 2005 when we could not go anywhere because power was out for 5 days for us and malls were closed as were all restaurants and gas stations due to lack of electricity.

A church had a service with a group in attendance a few days ago--the one along I75 south of Dayton with the pond in front and the religious statue rising out of the water. I wonder how many other group get togethers and how many bars and such were open over the weekend here in Ohio, not respecting the separation requests

NY Gov. Cuomo alluded to people meeting in groups and not staying their distance in his longgggggg press conference a couple days back.

I suspect this played in Ohio Gov DeWine/s decision. I certainly don't think he has been bumbling nor fumbling.

IMID...that church caught HELL about yesterday. My neighbor is a member of that church and went to that service. He went on a tirade yesterday about the only reason they held those services was to hit the members up, not once, not twice, but three times for “tithes”. He said no help was offered for those members who were “up against it” (his words) from losing their jobs, needing some food, etc.

He said he’ll never go back.

I just met my neighbor as I was throwing out the trash. She is going shopping in the next day or two - she asked if she could pick up some things for me - I have her a list and if she is successful I won't have to shop by myself.

My daughter is home with a fever - she was tested Friday for the covid-19 but has not gotten her results back yet. She was told to self-quarantine in her apartment. So she has not been able to help me for obvious reasons.

In terms of things I have watched that I would have never expected to enjoy, BBC Canada has been airing a series called "Phil Spencer's Stately Homes", which is a look inside and out at several of the incredible "country houses" of English aristocracy. Many of them date back to the 1600s. They are quite incredible. Last night I watched one about Goodwood, where the annual historic car revival takes place. I either never knew or had forgotten that until the early '60s the race track was in use for competition and was where Stirling Moss was badly injured.

Protip: keep away from Instagram, it is a disease that makes Facebook look like fine literature. Mostly a ground for "influencers" and rich kids who'd deservedly get a guillotine in olden times seeking attention.

Regarding the cruel nickname, those using it might not get the last laugh, as I've read a number of reports of the virus affecting, and even striking down, people under 40.

Here's a good Youtube channel showing a different perspective on the madness - apparently people there were being very stoic and calling it a media creation, then the economic hiccup and reports of casualties came in, and the stuff hit the fan, panic buying there too.

Our church has been live streaming the Sunday service. There is one main campus and nine satellite campuses; every campus is contacting their members with information on how they can help people affected by this crisis.
A church that only focuses on itself in a time like this is no church at all.

Ahh it’s been a fun few days.

Wife and I have been wanting to get rid of the hedges in front of our house.

Since we had nothing to do yesterday and they pick up yard waste on Monday we attacked it. Cut it all out and banded it. That was a job. Now I need to tackle all the stumps and redo the landscaping.

It’s raining today so couldn’t do it... but had a plumbing problem.

I was hand washing a pair of my son’s pants before throwing them in the washer and was pushing down on the sink in the bathroom to rinse them out. I guess I pushed down too hard and broke the under-mounted bowl loose from the marble top.

They were installed from the factory that built the vanity. They only had one clip and a fairly thin bead of silicone. I bought some Gorilla adhesive for marble and stone along with some clips I had to customize (it only had two studs expoxied underneath). I’m hoping it doesn’t go anywhere for a long while. I have the trap back together with no leaks. I rigged a few paint cans and a sanding sponge to make a wedge in order to put pressure upward until the glue is totally cured.

Looked at the other side and that only had one clip as well, so I installed the second.

I should run to the (community) mailbox - haven't picked it up since Friday.

Wife and stepdaughter are making plans for their forced down time - I suspect a trip to Home Depot for paint and supplies are on their agenda. The original paint in our almost 5 year old home is basic builder quality, and while the color isn't likely to change too much, the paint quality will certainly get an upgrade.

I think they plan to do bedrooms and baths. The common areas are way too big for them to tackle, I suspect.

I reorganized my office closet yesterday, and got some paperwork filed. I'll bet I get a "suggestion" to tackle the garage at some point.

RUG is as low as $1.45/gal here in Denver, and $1.47/gal in my suburban town.

The gas is taking a painfully long time coming down around me. Gassed up last week at the cheapest place for $2.21 but every major brand is still around $2.39. PUG is now 60 cents higher. Most I’ve seen. I suppose premium doesn’t get replaced as often.

Costco at Stelzer still at $1.45 RUG and $2.05 PUG same as early this morning.

My Friday Kroger Clicklist order was delivered today just about an hour later than the scheduled time but not a problem. Most of the order was there but only by texting back and forth with the shopper to choose substitutes. Funny part was when I asked about paper product subs the shopper texted back: Zero! They have no bath tissue no paper tissues. Lol! And no eggs. Hmm...Have to try another store for that. Who panic buys eggs?

Best part was when the shopper delivered the bags on my porch and I noticed he had a little helper. His son was about 6 years old and couldn't carry much but made 2x the trips as his dad. Cute as they get.

From the front door I told the dad, "You've got a hard worker helping out today." And he replied, "I've got twin boys...and their mom said I had to take them with me."

Then he gave a direct quote from wifey in a booming voice, "I need a BREAK!"
