I would not have a gardening service at this time. What many people are doing here With gardeners, house cleaners, etc is paying them but suspending service. It’s putting them at risk.

I just have the fertilizing done. And they came a week or 2 back. I have no contact with them anyway.

I do expect the landscapers to show up at some point to do the bed prep and mulching. Don’t go near them either and doubt they will contaminate us.

Who knows if the pool guys will show up at the end of May. If not, it’s staying closed!

But that’s all outside. No way would I allow a cleaning person inside. Good thing we DIY that ourselves.

Driver, I agree. I want to be in and out out the store ASAP. Not sure what we will need by Friday, but might try a flying lap through aldis.

Well I saw a pretty good one on the 6 o'clock local news last night.

A woman who owns a small fitness club but also must be a practicing country lawyer is on camera proclaiming that since she didn't need a state license (PA), to open her club, the governor had no authority to tell her she had to shut her place down because he can't arbitrarily decide that her place of business is not essential. REALLY? I'm willing to bet when she showed up for work this morning, she saw that her place was chained and padlocked by the state. As everyone in here knows I ain't no real lawyer but when I was a practicing country lawyer, I know that if she removes those chains, that will get her a trip to the slammer. Which is well deserved.

We have a real lawyer, now a judge, in hear so I'd like him to comment what her chances are of beating this rap if she does remove the chains. Just curious, no sweat off my you know what's.

My son had to close his business up - he is a personal trainer. He was finally doing so well and beginning to save a few bucks and now nothing. He told me he would be OK for about a month, but after that he would be in trouble.

I told him when and if he needs financial help to call me. I could help him out a little so he could pay his bills and put food on the table for him and my older grandson who is living at home with him now that college is closed. I know he'll pay me back when he gets his business going again.

We are paying our trainer and told him we’d make up the difference when he can start up again. I hope more people do that, if they want to have gyms and personnel to come back to once this is over. Being retired, I have a steady income stream. These folks don’t.

So far, the dojo we attend and work for is hanging in there. Only a handful of people have asked to cancel thus far. We are offering A LOT online, though, in the name of adding value. So now, it isn't just the usual 9 classes a week. We are looking at 15 now, plus 1-on-1 blocks, which my wife is handling many of, and parents are free to join in with their kids. Right now, I only teach once a week, so it isn't so much "we," but the owner leans on us for ideas, and my wife teaches way more than me.

@abacomike , has your son considered online training sessions with his clients? We've had a great deal of positive response.

That makes sense. Many people are going stir crazy. Downside, no equipment so need to get creative.

I bet this situation moves telemedicine about 10 years forward in 3 months. Going to be way fewer in person visits soon.

The husband of one of my team managers runs a gym and when this started he offered membership refunds to his members and not one person wanted their money back. They asked if he would do online sessions for their membership fees so he readily agreed.

We, too, are continuing to pay for everything while this is going on - housekeeper, landscapers, childcare etc. We are privileged that both of our jobs are remote (mine always was) and that they're giving us the flexibility to care for our son in the meantime with schedule flexing. Seems like the least we can do for others who are so heavily reliant on being in-person.

I used to go to the gym. 15 minutes to get there, would take an hour to do 40 minutes worth of exercise, waiting for equipment and wiping it down, and 15 minutes to drive home......90 minutes to do 40 minutes of exercise.
Worst part was, I would burn 300 calories, see this great breakfast place across the road when I came out, have some bacon, eggs toast and home fries.....gain 1000 calories. Plus, it cost $50 a month.

So, I bought weights, got a DVD and a little DVD player, have it next to a TV so I can watch TV while I do my weight exercises for 30 minutes, 3X a week....and I do it in 30 minutes! And no big breakfast after.

Two things. First, I have the best of intentions of working out but always slack off eventually. So I pay a trainer as a way to make sure I show up. Second, I notice I don’t work as hard myself as with a trainer, and I pay way less attention to good form. . Oh, and a third — my gym is just a mile from my house! So it’s great if you can do it on your own, but I need more motivation!

The trainer was good at first....since I had no clue what to do. But then, I found I could do it myself if I did it along with a DVD video. The results make it worthwhile, that is my motivation.....feel better, play tennis better, better for weight control. Don't get me wrong, I hate every minute of doing it....but, 30 minutes 3X a week - the results are my motivation, and it is one of those situations where if I cheat, who am I really cheating?

Given Ohio is under lock down as of midnight, I did one final run to Costco yesterday. Since I think I’m down for 30 days (not just the beginning of April), I made sure I got steak, seafood, chicken, frozen veggies/fruit, etc. I was already good on TP. I don’t need bottled water as mine comes out of my tap.

First time I saw Costco limiting numbers of people coming in. Parking lot was ½ empty, but there was a line to get in. They were only allowing 50 customers in at a time. They had plenty of everything.

But, I noticed this lady stock piling TP, paper towels and bottled water. Myself and another fellow politely told her they wouldn’t let her check out with any more than one package of each. She flipped us the bird and ignored our warning.

Sure enough, as I was in line to check out, there she was in another line giving the cashier grief. Finally, what I’ll assume was a manager, took her cart away from her and asked her to leave. She was fuming the entire way out, but left empty handed.

Ha ha ha! Good! :D what’s with the bird flipping these days?
Not the first, probably won’t be the last time I get the middle finger salute. I consider it a badge of honor.

I feel very fortunate that I am able to keep my business running through these troubled times. Our plumbing supply is considered an essential business.

This isn’t affecting our personal finances all that much. Our cleaning lady comes every other week. We cancelled her for now. We have a tutor coming for a few hours a day 2x a week to make sure my kids do their online work and don’t play X-Bix all day.

We have all heard that car repair shops, auto parts stores and plumbers fall into the essential business category so I have to assume that electrical and HVAC guys do too, right? I can't really understand how landscapers and lawn service guys are essential but good for them that they still have an income.

it is a balancing act. You want as many people out of circulation as possible, while also keeping as much of the economy and society functioning as possible. Lawn cutting is not really essential, until a month from now when every neighborhood looks like the prairies.

The prairies look might be a cool new thing for some of the Stepfordian housing developments here. It'd be interesting to see how the trendy non-native vegetation behaves when left to run its own course.

The "essential" list here doesn't appear to include construction activity related to office blocks and speculative housing, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an exception soon.

In Ohio construction is considered essential. It's not something you can work-from-home on. A
guest on a morning talk show yesterday said he considered it essential and it's easy to follow the 6-foot distance rule in most cases, since construction workers already are distanced.

Guest was offended that the powers that be are asking construction companies to give their N95 masks to hospitals and others since US has figured out not having companies who were making them here has led to a shortage... He said that his workers need to be protected from the dust hazards as well.

I was laughing about NYCguy's comment that plumbing supplies are essential. BECAUSE
as I watched last week people picking up paper towels when the adjacent toilet tissue shelves
were empty, I thought that PLUMBERS are going to be buying more yachts this year with
repair calls from people who stop up their plumbing using paper towels that they try to flush...

I didn't save it, but I read an article yesterday after a city sanitation department person commenting
how they're have to stop and clean the STRIPS OF T-SHIRTS out of their equipment because the cloth
doesn't deteriorate and catches and stays in the moving parts that lift the sewage and that process it.

Old people don't exercise because they're not motivated, it's because they are just tuckered out.

Darned if I am going to work up a sweat, not get anything done, and pay someone to help me do nothing. If I get the urge for exercise I'll do some work of some kind. Mow the yard, walk the dog, vacuum the house, wash the windows, straighten the basement, play a round of golf, play a little basketball, etc. Or maybe just take a nap and pretend I am meditating.

Our local school district is pretending that students are studying-at-home. I doubt it's very efficient.
But I picture a lot of this going on in houses with younger children. Thankx to Charles Payne's

Our younger son was an avid video gamer. I think it has helped his career and future.
But he had to excel in his schoolwork; the video games were second place at home.

We can't buy fertilizer here that contains phosphorus. Fortunately grass doesn't need much of it and there are other ways of adding it, if necessary.

I need to get moving...the forsythia is blooming. I still need to aerate before applying Halts. It's just been so cold and wet.

Here in South Florida, we have been inundated by northeasterners who got on a plane or in their cars and fled the epicenter of covid-19. They brought with them that corona virus which is now spreading across our area as well as other Florida cities and counties.

Governor DeSantis issued an executive order mandating that people who came from the epicenter to Florida in recent days must quarantine themselves for 14 days. I can just see the government trying to enforce that!

Additionally, he signed a second executive order mandating a "stay-at-home" for all senior citizens (65 and older) for 14 days. Enforcing that order should also be quite interesting.

The weather has been perfect for walking outdoors, swimming, sun-tanning, etc., so how does one enforce these mandated executive orders?

I live in far northern Broward County, second most heavily infected county in the State just a few cases of virus behind Miami-Dade County. It's as dangerous down here to go outdoors around people as it is in the northeast. We are being warned by WHO that this area could become as bad as NY. Our only salvation is that temps have been in the upper 80's every day which inhibits the growth and transmission of viruses.

So it looks like I am kinda quarantined. 😩🤢😕🤨

At this point I think the main enforcement is common sense. This is not something you want to risk getting. It is also not clear that warm weather will affect this virus (actually I Don’t think that’s true of any viruses, it’s just that in colder weather more people are cooped up inside). It’s quite warm in southern Spain now and they are having a terrible outbreak.

that have become pests. I'll apply Halts to kill crabgrass and a few other things later today since more rain a day or so later will water that into the ground for me.

We can't buy fertilizer here that contains phosphorus. Fortunately grass doesn't need much of it and there are other ways of adding it, if necessary.

I need to get moving...the forsythia is blooming. I still need to aerate before applying Halts. It's just been so cold and wet.
A lot of fertilizer is wasted because people don’t check the Ph of their soil. Too acid or base and the nutrients get locked up in the soil and can’t be utilized. Much of the soil in the East is too acidic. Sometimes a little limestone will do more good than a bunch of fertilizer.

We use about 5 sources including a little from Amazon. We order deliveries from 2 grocery store chains, they come once a week each...2 a week total, and we fill in with a pickup order as well. We are doing pretty well recently, even got 2 rolls of TP, they allow you to order only 1 of a brand, so we ordered 2 different kinds....the bears and the kittens.
The stores are starting to restock. That was unusual, they got hit hard in the panic but those people are well stocked, new orders are replenishing now.
One friend said he saw a lady trying to return a few packages to Costco...they told her they wouldn't take it back.
Start your orders from 2 suppliers...if we get extra a few things we don't care...I got too many salads coming, but I have to get through this.....besides, our going out bill has really subsided.
Get on a schedule, start building your next order before this one arrives....and have at least 2 sources.

We have many sources and they are all stripped bare at the moment. It’s actually a little scary. Hoping the situation improves soon.

I read the orders. So far the 65+ stay-at-home is an "advisory", not order, so Mike can still leave at his own judgement without penalty, but the Governors tells him it's a bad idea and local sheriff may start harassing him to go back home. The quarantine order for incoming Tristate residents is much more definitive, with enforcement tools, including jail and fines.

I just picked up some groceries. Went in for only a couple of items but the store was nearly empty of customers so I got a lot more things than I planned on which means I can trim back my online order for tomorrow.

We can't buy fertilizer with weed control here any more. They sell some kind of eco-friendly stuff that has corn gluten in it but reports are the weeds actually like that if it doesn't hit them at exactly the right time.

On the plus side, we don't have crabgrass here.
