I just checked Carvana to get a comparison. For a 2018 Accord EX-L with 28000 miles they want $23,900.
I'd get down on my knees and plead for those guys to sell me the car...at their last price.
* I used a 2018 because they don't have any 2019 or 20s

Why the rush? Do you really think the deals will be worse 3/6 months from now, so it’s worth making double Payments for 3 months?

There is already a serious shortage of S450's in the south Florida area. Most inventory shows lots of 560's. The incentive programs are stupendous. The factory will not start up production until next month and they will be producing 2021's within 4 weeks after that. So the time, I believe is ripe!

I strategized that saying let's "split the difference" may be too cliche . So, I went all in to get the deal done. Barring some unforeseen tricky sneaky stuff at the dealership, should have my new Accord EX-L home and in my driveway in a couple of hours. Bad news is I have to clean out the garage.

2001 models? I don't think MB wants that kind of retro ideal, not the best era for those cars

Funny, the 2001 equivalent to your car was the S430, which had a V8 putting out nearly 100 less hp than your TTV6.

All this talk of negotiating reminded me of a quote from a late old friend who was the business agent for a Pipefitters Union back in the 60's. He said "a good negotiator will get the last nickel out of the wage contract but a REALLY good negotiator knows which is the last nickel".
Kind of like knowing which $200 is the last $200

Now that Jip has found a car someone has to volunteer to go next. I can't replace the Florida car, Dr Facci says there is a good chance COVID will be here into the Fall, and some are saying 2022.

Not going back to Palm Beach - not very nice people up there - they wouldn't even discuss my offer. The other dealerships don't have exactly what I am looking for in terms of options. I want a heads-up display and wood/leather steering wheel - most don't have that equipment.

I trusted @Mike to know what his next car would have. But that display might help him aftet his cataract surgery but before he gets his script filled for glasses. I guess a hammer and chisel can get rid of that drive-in theater look after that.

Well guys, the car is in the driveway!! And best of all the buying process and finance went off without a hitch. Smooth as butter. Well, we did have to wait about an hour for the finance guy to be freed up. It was a bit stressful waiting, especially after reading firefighters comment, LOL, but otherwise a flawless ending.

Mrs. Jip and I arrived at Honda World under a light drizzle of rain. Our salesman greeted us and we filled out some preliminary paper work and finance application. I made sure we were filling out the paperwork for the correct car, haha, confirmed the the 4/48,000 bumper to bumper and 7/100,000 powertrain warranties that come with certified cars, and the 2.99% financing thru Honda.

Then it was time for a long wait for finance. I had calculated all the numbers earlier, and knew what our monthly payment would be. Everything was going smoothly in finance, all the numbers as they should be.......then..... the extended warranty sell. Now this finance guy was no pressure, and he did present the benefits of a maintenance plan for around $700, and a new extended Honda warranty that was being offered. I know the mixed feelings on the extended warranties, and I've always declined them in the past, but this sounded pretty good. I could extend my bumper to bumper warranty out to 9 years and 150,000 miles for $1,930. O.k, something to think about. It is a Honda...reliability. But, it does have a turbo engine. A bit of an unknown and.some think not as reliable as a naturally aspirated engine. My wife says out loud it's my decision. Well....thanks. All 3 of us talk about it for awhile, I'm thinking the whole time if I can get this guy down from $1,930. He mentions something like the retail price on the extended warranty is $3,750. That's the opening the ole Jipster needed. I him and haw a bit, then ask the finance guy if there's anything he can do "on that price to make the decision easier for me?" He immediately picks up the phone and calls Big Boss Man. Asks if they can give me the extended warranty at cost. Big Boss Man gives the go ahead. So the 9 year bumper to bumper /150,000 miles warranty price is dropped down to $1,600. I think about it for a minute, then say, "let's do it". I have 90 days to drop the warranty at no cost. So any opinions? I expect 50% to say it's a waste of money, and 50% to say it's a good deal and good peace of mind. LOL.

O.k, we sign all the necessary paperback, say thank you to the finance man, meet our salseman...and.... he gives the keys to my brand new Accord EX-L to my wife! Just joking he says. I don't think he was. LOL.

A nice drive home in the rain. Getting ready to go over the owners manual in a bit. The Honda Specialist that was to give us a tutuorial on how everything works on the car had already left, so we'll try to hook up with her later in the week. I can present the final numbers if anyone wants to see them.

Believe it or not, HUD is a standalone option on the current USDM S-class. Kind of shocking it isn't in the premium package or drivers assist package.

Funny thing, for MY 2017 I think it was included in the premium 3 package on the E, but only that year, at least for USDM. It became standalone later. Due to supply issues, it and widescreen gauges are very rare on 2017 cars, and fairly uncommon after. The P3 package itself is also rare for US cars. Widescreen finally became a part of the basic premium package for 2020, which is effectively a mandatory option. HUD still standalone for E as well, and seldom-seen in my experience.

Jip, you will definitely get different opinions on the warranty. Put me in the wouldn't do it category. Got at least 6 years on the powertrain and after that, would invest the $1,600 and self insure. But, relatively cheap insurance to go out that far, if you are going to put that kind of miles on it (not putting a lot of miles on is one reason I don't bother to get one).

Sounds like a decent deal for the warranty if you plan to keep it that long. I’ve never held a car longer than 3 years so...

Well, I did miscalculated on my estimated total miles in 9 years. At around 14,000 miles a year, that comes out to 126,000. My daughter just moved to Cincinnati,.so that may bump the numbers up a bit. Something to think about.as.I have 3 months to cancel. So powertrain. doesn't add a whole lot, 2 years and a bunch of extra miles. The bumper to bumper give us an extra 5 years and about 100,000 miles.
