Yeah, place I test drove always gets first shot. It's only fair.

Doesn't happen often that they get the sale. On the Volvo I got in August local dealer was way higher than the deal I got and wasn't willing to budge.

Makes sense, they are the only game in town. Closest dealer must be at least 30 miles away. Where I ended up buying had much more competition.

Sounds reasonable. That's why I think Jip should have sent out an email too. Can't hurt, might find a dealer who is desperate to move a car.

For anyone that needs something from Home Depot and doesn't want to go inside the store, try the Curbside Pickup.

I got four 50 pound bags of fertilizer and didn't have to leave the car. Order on line and choose Curbside Pickup at checkout.

I don't know if Lowes and others are doing it too.

That will work quite nicely when HD puts their mulch on sale for $2 per bag. I’m thinking I could get at least 50 bags of Mulch in my truck. Then go back and pick up another 50 bags.
Years ago when I needed that much mulch I had a truck load dropped in my drive way. Today I just call "The Guy". Pretty soon I'm going to call "The Guy" to mow z lawn.

    jmonroe
I've thought about that. I've also thought about picking up a load in my Tacoma. Buying the bags at HD or LOWES is easier. I don't have to take the Mulch all over my property with the Wheel Barrow. Just drop a bag in the bed where I need it, open, & spread. It is easy.

I pay the landscaper $50 per week to mow the lawn. Him and his crew are done in 40 minutes and they do a better job than I could in 2 -3 hours.

Guy said I was trying to steal the car. Lol

Well, isn't that what you are really trying to do? All of us want to "steal" a car if we can, but this is the best time of all. Whoops, I forgot to leave out "driver100" in my "all of us" comment. Driver believes in giving the dealer a profit of $500 which is very magnanimous of him. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible for any of us to determine exactly what a dealer is making on a specific sale of a car. There are so many incentives and "true dealer invoice" is unknown because, at times, what a dealer actually pays for a car from the manufacturer changes at the end of each month. If the dealer meets his quota or exceeds it in sales of new vehicles, there are bonuses involved. So even if driver tried his best to give the dealer a $500 profit, he could be off as much a thousands.

I'm back to doing my own lawn, I'm home so why not. Once the stay at home orders are done, and I'm back to work I will go back to having it done.

    Got a link to it?

I am using a chromebook and don't know how to post a link on it. I just checked Cargu and in my area Kia dealers are consistently knocking $8,000. off a $32,000. sticker price on the Optima EX Premium.
@driver100, the 2020 Optima SX is the model with the Red interior. For @jipster, right now is the best to buy as the completely remodeled 2021 is in the pipeline and will be out soon. Read U.S. News and world Report to get a side by comparison to the top contenders (Accord, Camry, etc.)

Thanks bwia....that is an interesting review and Camry was #2 and Accord #3. They seem to think a lot of the Optima.

What was the price you were offering before TTL? In other words, the asking price was $26,700 for that CPO Accord EXL iirc. How much of a discount were you asking for?

Talking laundry detergents: does anyone here use liquids that are higher than 2X concentration? This new machine has settings for 4X, 6X, 8X, 10X for the concentration of detergents. I've figured out that on higher settings it dumps in smaller portions of the detergent from the bulk dispenser. It thinks it has a higher power detergent and needs less.

I've decided this machine is close to being a self-driving car. You just push one button once others have been chosen on previous runs, and it just expects to go by itself unless it hits something, like an unbalanced load. I was used to being able to modify settings with my previous Cabrio model on the run; this one expects to be set free to do its own thing. LOL

I may lourd it over you guys with my Pfister but imid has it over us with his new washer that can decide what wash to use with any concentration of soap.....suppose it has a starch underwear setting too! :p
Don't know too much about that kinda stuff since that's woman's work. If it craps out, I'll look at but when it's working I keep my hands off of that machinery. The less I know about that stuff the less likely I'll be asked to use it. Same goes for the dryer and dishwasher.
How politically incorrect! I suppose you think women have smaller feet so they can get closer to the kitchen sink? :o

The option is basically the previous generation sonata. A solid car.

Houdini, no clue why different area has such different prices on same site, same car. I would have been looking for more off that anyway.

Not sure what the EX optima adds, but that SE is very well equipped for the price.

Keep in mind how depressed the used car market is right now. Everything is way below what it was just 2 months ago, which is likely when they bought that car. They were holding it at the wrong time in the market. Tough. Happens to everyone. They are going to have to bail at some point and lick their wounds, or keep holding it and hope it appreciates (good luck with that!).

That accord is already about 20% off, with only 1k miles (with CPO warranty more than making up for that). So hard to say how much more it will crater.

For lawn, I’m home all day and cheap, so I do my own mowing. Good exercise. But years ago I started outsourcing the bed prep and mulching. Best money I spend all year!

I’m getting really confused. Even before I found out that a washing machine cares what sex you are. If I understand, Jip made offers on the Acura, the Accord hybrid, and now an EX-L Accord? Of is there an offer on the CPO too? You do seem to have found the floor on all of them. I’d go for throwing in all weather mats and pick the one you want the most. Is there what, a $3000 spread between the highest and the lowest? I Personally think the hybrid will have the best combo of savings and driving enjoyment over the long run. You might think, which one took the most off the original price? Rather than which one is the cheapest. Because you can always get less car, but do you want to?

hmmmm... well, I'm going to give a WAG at $25k auction value, if auctions were open. Last one was 3/11 with 3k miles for $25.5k, and before that was end of Feb for $24.5k with 4500 miles. With the lower miles and Honda used car mystery surcharge, I'm thinking this one would hold up. So $26.5k is quite good for CPO, even if it drops to $24k auction value. With your 6% tax, that's $28,090. Didn't someone say DMV is nonexistent for KY? So where is the other $710 coming from?

$500 is exactly my limit for when I would consider walking. Anything below that and I'm not quibbling over it. Above that and I'll consider walking unless it is something I really want OR I realize my offer isn't realistic.

A couple of additional thougths on the @jipster saga:

First, he has negotiated on 3 different cars and is 0 for 3. Does that mean that his expected pricing is simply too low for each of them?

Second, I'd seriously recommend you wait until the first weekend of May and negotiate hard. The Honda new car programs expire on 5/4, and dealers may want that one extra sale to meet a volume bonus.

For the CPO, the timing doesn't matter; if the dealer won't budge another $500, then than may be the best they can do.

Man, so close yet so far. I think the ole @jip should shoot for 3 free oil changes and first shopping cart ding coverage then take it home and wax it, already. I'll even throw in a nice micro fiber rag to get this done. Maybe more contributions from his poster buddies would also help. So let him know how you'll pitch in. :o

For lease hacking, I follow other deal trends really closely in other parts of the country and adjust accordingly for the PNW premium and incentives. If I strike out twice then I know I'm probably too low.

I don't know if we can say 0 for 3. The Accura was out of price range, and so was the Hybrid. They were long shots. This one is close....maybe split the $500 and then call it a day. But, I like the idea of waiting until May - it is a gamble though, possibly less inventory available.

Got this blurb from one of the local Ford dealers in the area....

“ Lebanon Ford is potentially going to be selling our 2019 Mustang GT 301a Performance Package Level 2. This car has acted as the shop car for Lebanon Ford Performance. The car only has 4,400 miles on it and that will likely not go up as the car sits in our shop most of the time. It is equipped with a long list of value adding parts with nearly $75,000 in total investment between the car, parts, and labor. Making just south of 700 wheel horsepower the car is both fast and a head turner. List of mods below. Asking $55,000 OBO

    Mods:
ROUSH Performance Phase 1 2650 Supercharger (Painted Nitrous Blue) We also have the Phase 2 upgrade kit that would included in the sale or a Killer Chiller is available for $500 instead of the larger Roush Radiator.
Roush Engine Covers (Painted Tuxedo Black)
Air box, radiator cover, and headlight surrounds all painted Tuxedo Black
    MMR Oil Pump Gears
    GForce Halfshafts
Kooks Long Tube Headers - Catless
Borla Atak Active Exhaust Black Chrome Quad Tip Catback
AirLift Performance 3P Suspension w/ 5 gallon tank painted to match the car. All lines tucked and run for cleaner look.
Full Two Tone Custom Paint Satin White Platinum with Gloss Tuxedo Black on Roof, Mirrors, Spoiler, Wheels, and Grilles. ($10000 Paint Job)
Xpel Clear Bra on Front Fascia
Ceramic Pro Lifetime Package on ALL Paint and Wheels.
RTR LED upper and lower grille
RTR Side Skirts, Rear Quarter Splitters and Diffuser
    Custom Leather Recaro seats
    Painted Brembo Calipers (Nitrous Blue)
Anderson Composites GT350R Fiberglass Wing painted Tuxedo Black.
Matte White Pearl Wrapped Dash Trim
    RTR Shift Knob

    $55,000 OBO.

As part of purchase we will have the backs of the recaro seats reupholstered to remove the GETHIPP logo from the leather. All of logos will be removed as they are just decals.

Ultimately you can get a super low mileage car that is a one of a kind build for $20000 less than our shop would charge if you wanted to buy the same car brand new.

    DM if interested

How are going to register it without cats? Just for the track I guess. The 4400 miles we driven a 1/4 mile at a time? Probably in great shape. Let me get my check book.

    I’m sure it’s a track car.

Too pretty to be confined to the track.

@oldfarmer50 No emissions testing here, any longer. I'm putting plates on that car and hitting the streets!

Way back in January of 2005 when my Grandfather was getting his 2004 Grand Marquis I made him walk out over $500.

This was his third car from that dealer and I was a little ticked off at them. He was trading in his 98 Town Car. Since it was a trade we were just working the "difference". I didn't care where that $500 came from but I wanted it.

They claimed over and over they were all in (it was a solid deal), but we walked.

Pop called me the next day and said, shouldn't I just do it? I said yeah, $500 isn't worth it. He really liked the car and in the end it was the last car he bought and drove it for nearly 7 years and then I kept it another 4. It was also very reliable and caused him not one day of problems.

I like it when there's a deal that's a win for everyone. I appreciate what the good salespeople do for you, and most of them have been very nice and helpful for me. I feel like if you can get them on your side they'll often go the extra mile for you. But they need to make a little bit of a living too. Just my 2 cents.
