    Jip, A few things come to mind;

@driver100 This dinosaur has never had a back up camera in a car. Would probably come to like the Android Autoplay.... 20(?) years ago I thought I'd never need or want a cellphone. And now...can't live without them.

Does the Mazda 6 and Accord (I hope we have narrowed it down...though you could try a Passat), have Bluetooth? Since you use your phone it is really nice to be able to use it through the car itself. I assume they all have rear cameras these days...that is a must. And, do either of them have blind spot warnings - another necessity.

One more thought....I thought a few guys mentioned twitchy feeling in the Mazda's steering at higher speeds. That would be a major negative to me. I find Honda's to be true road cars.....good handling, strong engine, designed right.....but no experience with Mazda.

I was checking KBB and they won't give prices for some reason...must know I am communicating with Jip
Mazda6 and Accord get 4.4 out of 5 stars........but, they choose the Accord as their #1 choice in that category.
    https://www.kbb.com/honda/accord/
    Mrs Jip may know something!
Not sure if base models have Bluetooth. Like Android Auto...I can't miss what I don't have. It's on my wife's car, but dont think she uses it much.

The blind spot monitoring is something I need actually, as I clipped a car in my blind spot on the way to pick up my birthday cake for my BIG 5-0 birthday party. Only the 2nd accident of my life......knock on wood.

I was going to go look at the Accord EX-L but my salesman didn't get back with me in time. Trying also to set something up for one last look at the Mazda 6. I'll be taking requests up until midnight tonight, so after that no more.

Mrs. Jip likes the Accord because it's nice and comfy for napping. :

Got this blurb from one of the local Ford dealers in the area....

“ Lebanon Ford is potentially going to be selling our 2019 Mustang GT 301a Performance Package Level 2. This car has acted as the shop car for Lebanon Ford Performance. The car only has 4,400 miles on it and that will likely not go up as the car sits in our shop most of the time. It is equipped with a long list of value adding parts with nearly $75,000 in total investment between the car, parts, and labor. Making just south of 700 wheel horsepower the car is both fast and a head turner. List of mods below. Asking $55,000 OBO

    Mods:
ROUSH Performance Phase 1 2650 Supercharger (Painted Nitrous Blue) We also have the Phase 2 upgrade kit that would included in the sale or a Killer Chiller is available for $500 instead of the larger Roush Radiator.
Roush Engine Covers (Painted Tuxedo Black)
Air box, radiator cover, and headlight surrounds all painted Tuxedo Black
    MMR Oil Pump Gears
    GForce Halfshafts
Kooks Long Tube Headers - Catless
Borla Atak Active Exhaust Black Chrome Quad Tip Catback
AirLift Performance 3P Suspension w/ 5 gallon tank painted to match the car. All lines tucked and run for cleaner look.
Full Two Tone Custom Paint Satin White Platinum with Gloss Tuxedo Black on Roof, Mirrors, Spoiler, Wheels, and Grilles. ($10000 Paint Job)
Xpel Clear Bra on Front Fascia
Ceramic Pro Lifetime Package on ALL Paint and Wheels.
RTR LED upper and lower grille
RTR Side Skirts, Rear Quarter Splitters and Diffuser
    Custom Leather Recaro seats
    Painted Brembo Calipers (Nitrous Blue)
Anderson Composites GT350R Fiberglass Wing painted Tuxedo Black.
Matte White Pearl Wrapped Dash Trim
    RTR Shift Knob

    $55,000 OBO.

As part of purchase we will have the backs of the recaro seats reupholstered to remove the GETHIPP logo from the leather. All of logos will be removed as they are just decals.

Ultimately you can get a super low mileage car that is a one of a kind build for $20000 less than our shop would charge if you wanted to buy the same car brand new.

How are going to register it without cats? Just for the track I guess. The 4400 miles we driven a 1/4 mile at a time? Probably in great shape. Let me get my check book.

Driver, every car has a camera now by law. And only a true strippo model doesn’t have BT. BLIS, Mazda touring definitely has it but Honda was slow to adopt on lower than top trims. I would not buy a new car without it. On the accord, need to get the EX or above to get that feature.

For laundry, I don’t like liquid. We use pods.

Agree on BLIS. A weakness for Honda for quite awhile.
I got a letter from AAA stating we will get 20% discount. We might be driving 1 car once a week.

When shopping the CX-5, I strongly suggested to the GF that she gets the Soul Red color, it's a stunner. But, first she didn't want to spend the extra $600; second she considers all reds "arrest me red." Shame, she got silver and is quite happy. Therefore, so am I.
But, I buy a Mazda, arrest my soul red it shall be!

For anyone that needs something from Home Depot and doesn't want to go inside the store, try the Curbside Pickup.

I got four 50 pound bags of fertilizer and didn't have to leave the car. Order on line and choose Curbside Pickup at checkout.

I don't know if Lowes and others are doing it too.

That will work quite nicely when HD puts their mulch on sale for $2 per bag. I’m thinking I could get at least 50 bags of Mulch in my truck. Then go back and pick up another 50 bags.

We picked up 2 rocking chairs in boxes at Home Depot using curbside a day after they started the social distance and restricted entry program. Had seen them in stock when wife was looking, so ordered them later that day for delivery from the store. They weren't ready for pickup later in afternoon but were ready for next morning. No problem with that. They said they were getting lots of orders, so they missed the 1-hour ready marker.

Only problem was the slots for curbside were marked with 5-gallon buckets with signs in them at the end of the yellow line. the buckets made it difficult to swing on the turn in to park.

I didn't want to try to run the Malibu between them turning from the drive, so I parked in Handicapped across from it and called them telling them which slot I was in. They were out in 5 minutes or so. They said they would take a few extra minutes, they were running behind. Loaded into the trunk and rear seat for me. Carefully.

This is a good store near the WPAFB and Wright State University.

I may lourd it over you guys with my Pfister but imid has it over us with his new washer that can decide what wash to use with any concentration of soap.....suppose it has a starch underwear setting too! :p

It defaults to the regular button on the left unless you last pushed towels, whites, bulky, delicates, and it picks a button on the right for modifying that wash cycle unless you've picked a different one earlier. So just push ON button and hold the START button for count of 3 and go back to beer and football, er baseball, er watching soaps reruns.

Because of my wife's back she hasn't done laundry for years because of reaching down into tub or into drying is painful.

Lowes had appliances, at least Whirlpool/Maytag, on sale. But the salesperson acted like sales were slow.

My guess would be lots of people don't know if they will have a job or if their business will restart after things being dragged out so they're not replacing anything. I recall while shopping for kitchen replacements 4 years ago, there were folks in looking for "to go" appliances they could take home with them and put in themselves. The working guy that can take home a dishwasher, washing machine, or dryer in his truck or van, and put it in himself.

I had my choice of days for installation. Before they were booked for days.

One of my kids hadn't driven anywhere for the last 2+ weeks.
Escape wouldn't start, so they called AAA.
Guy put jump box on battery and it still wouldn't start.
Turns out the box was dead too but he was able to get it started with another box.
Told her to get a new battery before next winter.

Speaking of shopping - Costco panic buying update, I had to stop by again as I'll be visiting my mom in podunk in 2 weeks, and some things have been hard to find there (still hard to get TP as of last weekend):

No lines, was pretty sparse around 12:30 pm. All employees wearing masks, many customers doing the same. They had a complete stock of paper goods - TP, towels, napkins. I saw flour, but as far as I know, no bleach or sanitizer. Didn't notice anything else out of stock. Almost like a normal day. Gas station was pretty empty, too. Numerous dopes on the road, but that's the world we live in.

    Next hotzone in GA, perhaps.

Good update stick...........whatever it costs it is worth it, especially if you are keeping the car for a few years as it becomes standard on all models

I like pods too.....Kirkland Brand are good, but I like the smoother ones better...Kirklands are kind of gritty feeling.

I have noticed the stores being much less crowded when I make my weekly run. Might be the times, but definitely a lot of it is the immediate hoard panic is over. Odd shortages at each place, but other than Yeast and clorox wipes, have managed to find everything we really need.

and I am seriously considering a quick road trip to GA, just to get a haircut! It is getting bad up top. I do have an order in for a hair trimmer and scissors with Amazon (supposed to arrive middle next week, not what I hoped to get for my birthday, but at this point, glad I could get some!) My daughter is looking forward to taking a whack at my hair. Can't wait to see the results!

What you have to lose is being blacklisted as a time waster at dealers that may actually have the car you want. It does happen. I’m not speaking from personal experience or anything.

I still think it is legitimate and fair. He has told his dealer what he is willing to pay. If he has given them his best price, has waited a reasonable time, then he is free to take his price elsewhere. I am saying to blast a few dealerships within 100 mile radius.......not all of them. Find a comparable model from their stock, see if a realistic low price works. He is being fair and he legitimately wants to buy....just at a price he wants to pay....doesn't want to do the dance and have to sit around eating a submarine sandwich. They can turn him down....but, if they really do have to sell a car this is a guy who wouldn't have bought a car from them anyway.
I don't think they are going to send his email to other dealers and warn them.
I think it is a special circumstance......he isn't desperate, he has a budget he doesn't want to go over, he is stretching his budget a bit....that is the most he really wants to pay.......why would a dealer that wants to move a car ignore him?
They might ignore him if they thought the deal was a loser.

I’ve revised my belief about dealer desperation a bit. True, there’s not much business these days but dealers may be taking the long view that when this is all over there will be a shortage of cars. They might not be willing to deplete their stock on skinny deals.
And receiving bailout monies sure lessens any desperation or desire to sell inventory to willing buyers.

My GEICO policy renews on June 30th. GEICO is renewing at a 15% reduction on the total premium - that's $170 less per 6 month premium.

I have only put 250 miles on my car since March 1st. It just sits there all day long for 7-8 days at a time until I have to go shopping.

Might want to get a quote from Metro Mile, looks promising for people that drive low miles and their auto insurance company is based on mileage based quotes.

I actually saw wipes at the Office Depot down the street from me - people will fight for those these days. I've never used them, so I didn't get any. I think now we are both in being past the immediate panic stage, and the stage where some are afraid to venture out.

I cut my own hair a couple weeks back (with clippers). It was kind of iffy looking at first, but seems to have grown past the really awkward stage now. I can trim it myself, but cutting the top might not be something I do again.

Can't wait to see the results!

my hair is dead straight so pretty simple. The princess is a bit OCD so I know it will at least be even! Would have done it already but we did not own equipment, and it was on backorder. Not all that worried about the top that needs scissors. Doing the sides should be easy. Worst case, she just keeps going and I get a buzz cut. It will grow out, and not like I see anyone these days!

Better than when I was bald I guess.

@jipster Are you looking at at a new Accord EXL or CPO? If new, that's going to be about the same price as the TLX Tech on a lease.

I was going to look at that certified Accord EX-L. Silver with grey interior. $26,500.
Looks good. I like the grey leather interior. Includes 3 years scheduled maintenance. You probably already know this, but the CPOs don't get the "lifetime warranty," although as you know they do get the 7 year 100k Honda CPO warranty, which might be more valuable. Honda also includes 3% financing for up to 60 months on CPOs. What are you thinking you might offer if you like it? Given that's it's already had a 2k price drop recently my guess is that negotiation from this price might be limited, although maybe you can get something off? I personally might start at c. 25.5 and try to hold the line at 26 flat + TTL.

This will definitely beat the price and financing of the TLX Tech with the lease incentives. TLX Tech msrp 38k-8k lease incentives-2k dealer discount=28k but then "financed" with a MF that equals a 5% loan, plus there's the $595 acquisition fee that's required for the lease. Rough guess is that even before negotiation this CPO Accord EXL saves maybe c. 4k over the Acura TLX Tech "lease and then buy out the residual in 3 years" option.

Accord EXL features over the EX....

    Leather-Trimmed Interior
    Driver's Seat Memory
450-Watt Premium Audio System with 10 Speakers
    Power-Adjustable Front Passenger Seat
    HomeLink® Remote System*
    Automatic-Dimming Rearview Mirror
LED turn indicators in side mirrors

One question is—are these features worth about $2000 for you compared to the price of a CPO EX? For me it would be, although like you I actually like cloth seats. Still, having a power passenger seat, the leather, the hugely upgraded stereo, built-in garage door opener, and dimming mirror are all together worth 2k imho. For me the biggest deal by far is the upgraded sound system. The EX stereo imho is just ok at best, while the EXL has a nice stereo that's equivalent to what you get in a base model TLX. The ELS stereo that's in the TLX Tech is another big upgrade, but...

I was getting a little confused with all of these Accord models, so I found a site that explains them really well.
    Before I do the link, here is one conclusion they came to;

There is one trim level that tends to get recommended above the rest, and that is the EX. It makes for a nice middle of the road option. You do not have to spend as much as you would on the Touring, and there are a good number of features that get included on the EX trim level. In fact, it has just about everything that you could ask for without going over the top. The addition of the blind spot monitoring system is a huge bonus, as this feature can really come in handy and helps to keep you safe while on the road.

The Touring trim is nice if you can afford it as it borders on being a luxury vehicle, and the Sport can be a fun one to drive. The base LX trim is the most affordable and is well-equipped for a base trim level, but it might feel a bit too basic for some drivers. And the EX-L does not add a whole lot more than what you get on the EX. That is why the EX is the trim level to buy if you are going to go for the 2020 Honda Accord. And, no matter which trim level you choose, you will be getting a solid vehicle.

Since the supreme stereo system isn't important, and the leather seats...may want to go for an EX and save $2000, or use the price on an EXL to negotiate $2000 off on an EX.

    DM if interested

How are going to register it without cats? Just for the track I guess. The 4400 miles we driven a 1/4 mile at a time? Probably in great shape. Let me get my check book.

We had a 2013 EX-L. For me the upgrades were substantial and well worth the money. I do like leather seats. The better sound, auto dim mirrors and safety features were terrific. After major surgery, the power passenger seat was a lifesaver, as I could not have bent down to manually adjust a seat. One of those things you never think about until you need it. In fact, that seemed the whole approach of the EX-L — everything thoughtfully there that made driving life that much better. I suspect that’s why you like both the hybrid and the Acura.

EX IMO has always been the Honda sweet spot. Just need to decide if you want leather instead of cloth, and add the L!

My wife likes leather, and really wants a power passenger seat, but I like cloth so an EX would be fine for me. Assuming radio is at least OK.

NJ doesn’t sniff the tailpipe, but they do plug into the OBD port. I’m guessing that would rat you out big time.

PA does the OBD emissions test as well.

Two of our cars will definitely be exempt from testing since they'll be driven under 5,000 miles in a year and if restrictions stay in place into June we'll likely have a third car fall into that bucket.

About a week ago Liberty Mutual announced a credit of 15% of 2 months premium. I’ll get about $65.

I got the same message from Liberty Mutual announcing the 15% refund. It reads as follows:

    "Personal Auto Customer Relief Refund
Fewer drivers are on the road, which means fewer accidents. With this in mind, we are announcing our Personal Auto Customer Relief Refund, which will return approximately $250 million to our customers. Here's how it works:

Personal auto insurance customers will receive a 15% refund on two months of their auto premium, based on your premium amount as of April 7, 2020.1

We are planning to issue the refund in the manner you made your most recent payment or by check.

We will begin issuing refunds in the coming weeks, after we have approval from state insurance regulators.

Your refund will happen automatically, and you do not need to call us to get your refund."

Sounds like a really good deal on a fantastic car. With only 1k miles, and a long powertrain warranty extension, a great way to go. Plus sounds like a good fit for your family. You were impressed, and just as important, makes your wife happy!
