I got bored enough today that I watched JRgo replace battery packs in a civic hybrid for 20 minutes. Actually pretty interesting seeing how it all works!

In driver’s ed back in the 60s the instructor had a device he hooked to the car bumper. It had two blank cartridges. When the instructor pulled a string the first one would fire and you’d slam on the brakes firing the second. Each cartridge would fire a bit of chalk into the pavement marking the distance you traveled during the time it took you to react.
We all got a kick out of the gunshot noise and screeching brakes. The point was to show young drivers how far you travel in a panic stop.

I’m thinking electric is the way to go, but, interested In experiences.
There are a few guys at our campground who sell custom ones with lift kits, rims, lights etc.
I’ve seen those advertised for around $5000 or so and most are 2014-16 models with “tested good” batteries.
There is a 6” lifted 2007 Yamaha electric with brand new batteries ($1000) for $3500. I thought that was a touch high for the age and was thinking more like $2800 or so.
Thoughts?
Electric is definitely the way to go. Gasoline carts are loud, smell bad, and pollute the air. As far as age and pricing, it depends on the individual cart. They haven't changed much over the last several years. Unless you buy new, nearly all used carts have been used on golf courses and have seen a lot of wear and tear. Courses usually lease them for 2 years and that's where those on the market come from.

Thank you! I was pretty much sold on electric as well for many of the reasons you mentioned
I only test drove one briefly, but always thought it was a heck of a deal considering all the alternatives out there. I still think GM is ahead in the mass market electric car race. I know Tesla has gained traction and is doing well in some areas. But, for ease of purchasing, driving, owning, you’d be hard pressed to beat the Bolt.

"Some of their results may surprise you. The Reaction Time Test found that left-handed people and men have slightly better reaction times than the average person."
What confuses me is that "men" have slightly better reaction times than the average person. What is the "average" person? Are not men about 50% of the population? That should indicate that men are "average" or make up 50% of the mean to begin with. So that statement confuses me!
Left-handed people being better than the average person makes sense to me since left-handed people are about 1/4 of the average population and are more logical-sequential than right dominant people.
There, I got that off my chest!🤪
Most people just take the test, and don't sweat the details, but, since you asked, and I never like to leave someone hanging; 1) Actually left handed people make up 10% of the population.
2) Several sites say that in tests men react motion-wise, faster than women. The results of two separate studies showed that women have a faster decision time than men, and that men have a faster movement time. I think the sentence was awkward...just should have ended at "men have slightly better reaction times". Maybe adding "than the average person" made it more politically correct.
Congratulations on having the reactions of someone 25 years younger!
So, while I really haven’t been working much over the last several weeks, my official end date is tomorrow. I download all of my files onto thumb drives, packEd up the laptop, the printer, any paperwork (as in literally work on paper) that relates to my company, my leftover business cards, my company credit card, my company ID, and anything else related, to our office in Austin, TX (which is the office I report out of).
I’m slated for my exit interview at 10:00 a.m. with my boss and HR. Should be quick and easy.
They sign off on receiving everything. I sign the form stating I didn’t keep anything, and they send my last check(s) as an employee.
Now I have to deal with the stock options I have, what to do with the Pension (if I do anything), etc.
They’re covering my health care until the end of the year. So, got to figure out how that will all work.
Somehow I feel I’m not done working, though. Weird!
Funny, when I retired there was none of that. I left behind voluminous amounts of paper files, all of my electronic files, my laptop, ID, and a few other items. Of course before I left I copied any electronic files onto thumb drives to take away with me in case I needed them for any future consulting. I really haven't had to use them but they are still here. Nobody seemed to mind.
I think there is still a box of old business cards in storage somewhere too.

Yeah...it's a two hole garage. I guess I can park at an angle if I want. That said, it's a lot easier to pull in and out of now. Need to scrub the garage floor, too. I never noticed how badly it needed a cleaning until I saw the pic.
Let's see how having one car goes for a little bit. I'm not feeling any new car pangs right now, though. That said, the money for the TLX was deposited in my checking account, and not my savings. So, its' pretty liquid if I need to move quickly on something. LOL!
@ab348 ...security with my company is pretty tight. Even my employee photo needed to be updated every year so security guards would have a picture that reflects how we look currently. That was especially true since the only time they'd see me at our facilities would be 4-5 times a year. Some of the offices, they wouldn't see me but once/year.
There was a checklist and process to hand over everything. It's pretty rigid. Any deviation without prior notice or permission would result in them holding up my checks until they would be resolved.
Kind of surprised they wanted my business cards back. How do they know how many I have left (probably keep 20 or so for posterity)? Shhhh...don't tell them!
Some of the information I'll send back to them will make zero sense without me giving it context. So, whomever takes my place (a hire they can't make due to COVID 19) will be essentially flying blind.

I was reading about the side effects of the anti viral drug I'm taking an I swear I have every one of them. So I called the doctor and he told me unless they are severe, keep taking the drug. If they persist after 3 days, I am supposed to call him.
He said "NOT" to take Naproxen for the pain as there are some recent studies about negative results with corona virus concerns. So I will bite the bullet and only take super strong pain meds if the pain gets out of hand, which is fast approaching.
Naproxen Sodium (Aleve) is already not recommended for anyone over 60. Of course, it works better than most pain relievers.
My Dr has warned me off Naproxen for years as apparently it negatively affects some of the health triggers in my hereditary map.
Someone mentioned shingles only hit elderly people. I’m an outlier, I’m sure. But, I had them when I was 27. Have scars on my back to prove it. I know to this day, I’m accustomed to not sleeping on my back as a result.

My understanding is that shingles can hit at any age for people who have had chickenpox but the chances of the flair up increases with age and how long ago you had chickenpox. Remember if you have shingles you can transmit chickenpox to those with no immunity to it, usually through direct contact.

Kind of feeling melancholy!
I had a nice send off when I retired also. Executive group took me to dinner, there was a reception in our head office auditorium with people from outside coming in, lunches, etc.. In my case I got a lifetime pass to the annual scotch whisky show - which they have kept up with for the last 5 years at least but I have no idea how it will work once everyone who knows about that fact moves on. I do have a framed certificate to that effect though.
Funny thing about feeling melancholy. I can understand that, and expected it too, but it never happened. I kept in touch with a handful of people after I left but now all but two of them have moved on. I have not set foot in the place once since I left (6 years ago tomorrow!). Have no desire nor need to return.

I’m no expert on the value of used hybrid cars. I was just going by the fact it was a Civic, which bring crazy dollars on used lots.
Be interesting to see how much he sells it for once he is done with the battery installation.
well, I started out at 31 and got down to 18. So must be accurate!
Not bad for a youngin but since I’ve been driving longer that you, I’m a little better. I started out at 27 then got down to 17. I shouldn’t have pushed it because my final try (#5) I went up to 20. I was wrong about the tire size for my E450 4MATIC. All 4 tires are 245/40 R19 98H Goodyears. I asked Mercedes if they ever put different sizes on front and rear and they said not on the 4MATIC sedans. So I finally got an answer to my question.
Finally Broward County Florida is opening up to just about everything except suntanning and swimming on the beaches and I am stuck at home because I have Shingles. Something reeks of "irony" here, don't you agree?
My doctor said that when you have an active case of the Shingles, you could give the chicken pox to someone who hasn't had them yet and who did not have the chicken pox vaccine. So I am doing the world a big favor by staying home an extra week.

*When I lost my publishing job after 16 years I was called in to a meeting with my sales manager at a hotel in Toronto. He told me he just started a few months before, so he didn't know me that well, he didn't like doing it, but, he wasn't too attached. They let me buy my company car, a 1986 Corsica for $4000. *When I lost my next job after 3 years they lost their largest customer, 1/3rd of their business, and couldn't afford a manager for that division....Good bye! *After I lost my next job after 10 months they told me they had lost $400000 so far half way through the year, nothing to do with me - just my idiot boss who bought a lot of crap we couldn't sell. They canned me and the business only lasted a few months after that.
These 3 former employers plus most other former employers went out of business or became a fraction of their size....after they dumped me Big mistake!
I found that using my my mouse is a lot slower than my keyboard. Mouse results: 57, 86. Keyboard: 37, 40.
They say to use "any" key. I tried it again because I realized when I did it this morning I used my left hand even though I am right handed. I used my left because I can touch the larger Caps Lock Key easiest......the right side has more in the way. Fastest time on the right after 4 tries was 30........fastest time on the left this morning and this afternoon after 4 tries was 22. I am wondering if the right brain works the left hand, and if people who are right handed react faster with the left hand?
I'm left handed. Use the mouse with my right hand, but used the keyboard with my left hand. Keyboard was faster. BTW, it and mouse are wireless which could slow things down.

When I was downsized in the mid '90s, I was in Bangor, Maine and had to fly to Chicago the next day to lose my job. Signed a few papers, left with a severance check for 10 years of service (I was at 10 years and 11 months at the time, they rounded down. Thanks.). I bought my company car, a '95 (IIRC) Dodge Intrepid; poorly built, noisy but reliable and a decent drive, as I figured I needed a car and it was a used car that I knew was well taken care of. Returned company PC, I think that was about it. Still have my biz cards somewhere packed away, probably.
Two of six salespeople were let go at that time, due to a major loss of supply; the other salesperson soon joined a former client, and eventually returned to the company. Several months later, my sales manager contacted me, noting that if I was interested, there's a 90% chance he could bring me back, raise, larger territory. That percentage faded to 0% over a few weeks; I career changed. The company was eventually bought out, my stock turned into a Jaguar XK and I know not of what happened to my former coworkers (spread out from Chicago-east). But, I hope it turned out well for all; I believe that it did for me.

I have a Chase Visa card which I’ve had for close to 40 years. A few years ago they jacked my interest rate up to 21% for no reason. Didn’t bother me financially since I never carry a balance but it irked me that they would do that to long time customers.
As a result I started using the Visa card less and less, favoring the Master Card I got from my credit union. Evidently I haven’t used the Chase card in a year.
So today I get a letter from Chase saying that because I haven’t used the card they are reducing my credit limit by half ($16,700 to $8,300). Huh? Sounds like a bully tactic to either make me cancel the card or start using it more but who knows what is their true motivation.
So what would you do? I’ve got an $11,000+ limit on my other card so I don’t really need the Chase card. The only thing I would buy for more than the limit would be a car and most dealers won’t let you charge the full cost. My only concern would be a ding to my credit score for canceling a card with a 40 year history.
I’m down to deciding whether to just ignore this and continue to make them service my account just for spite or to cut up the card and send it to Chase with a nasty letter about where to stick it.

I doubt OF will notice any impact closing an old card. But, if you do (from spite) open a new one because it is never a good idea to only have 1 active card. If something happens (say your card gets hacked and has to be closed and replacement issued) you are hung out to dry in the interim.

Since I'm left handed I'm exempt from taking the test, you already know I'm better than average.
You can take it with your right hand. It sounds suspicious to me, not taking the test because you know you are better than average......sounds like a cop out! With the speed you drive you should be able to do it in 8 seconds!

Some of the information I'll send back to them will make zero sense without me giving it context. So, whomever takes my place (a hire they can't make due to COVID 19) will be essentially flying blind.
The group who worked for me gave me a nice plaque and a dinner certificate to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
Company sent me a very nice silver dish engraved with a list of "accomplishments", plus a prepaid weekend getaway (which I obviously can't use for a while).
Kind of feeling melancholy!
I need to watch that. He just bought that car for next to nothing.

Funny thing about feeling melancholy. I can understand that, and expected it too, but it never happened. I kept in touch with a handful of people after I left but now all but two of them have moved on. I have not set foot in the place once since I left (6 years ago tomorrow!). Have no desire nor need to return.

My doctor said that when you have an active case of the Shingles, you could give the chicken pox to someone who hasn't had them yet and who did not have the chicken pox vaccine. So I am doing the world a big favor by staying home an extra week.

These 3 former employers plus most other former employers went out of business or became a fraction of their size....after they dumped me

Keyboard was faster. BTW, it and mouse are wireless which could slow things down.

It will be my 25th anniversary with the company.
Hope my manager doesn't assign me some work.
