Here in WA booze and beer has been available at the supermarket for several years now (it used to be a state-controlled liquor system, but I think it was inefficient). The world hasn't ended, although it produce a big price break. We've also voted by mail for eons, and everything has worked fine.
Not wanting to start an election topic... Morning talk show on radio is having callers report how busy their polling place was compared to other years. Sort of an anecdotal way to gauge overall turnout.
BUT after my UDF coffee listening to those radio reports I went by Kroger, and there was a a line -- AT THE STEEL GATES TO THE LIQUOR STORE inside Kroger. LOL
Not sure if it's still this way, but I don't think you can buy alcohol in KY on election day, until the polls close at 6 PM.
Same for PA but this should be the year to change that. Only a few drinks could sort out all the agony.

PA IMO has a terribly regressive booze distribution system. You can’t even get a six-pack at the Wawa. Selling liquor at state run outlets with banker’s hours is near criminal. For all it’s faults at least NY let’s you drown your sorrows on a more convenient schedule. Another example of the private sector doing a better job.
They've expanded malt liquor distribution to convenience stores like WaWa, Sheetz, etc. You can get 6 or 12 packs of beer in those places. Not as good as neighboring states where it's in the grocery store AND doesn't require purchase at a special register but a far cry from when I first turned 21. Then you could only buy beer at distributors, 6 packs at bars, and they were closed on Sunday. Same for liquor stores, no sales on Sundays and a far more limited selection. Like the changes with beer sales it isn't as liberal a system as some states but it's worlds better than what it was 15-20 years ago.

Washington is mail voting as well. We got our ballots weeks ago and dropped them off at the drop box down the street the next day. Was able to see it was counted that night online. No fuss. We could have mailed them back, but if USPS can’t get bills delivered to me on time...
Back to future again. I just watched a longish YouTube video on the 2021 Hyundai Azera (aka Grandeur) and it looks elegant and premium in tuxedo black. They mentioned that it is just a refresh but to me it is more than cosmetic as there are major changes to the exterior and interior.
Should Hyundai bring back the Azera to the US it perhaps would cannibalize its own Sonata, Genesis and Kia sales akin to what the Accord has done to Acura. Then again, sedans are a tough sell in the American SUV centric market. Here is a shorter four minute video. https://youtu.be/oMHgLYceRhY
What platform is the Azera built on, is it the same as the G70? If it is, seems funny to compete with your own brand. Older Azeras I see for sale look nice but there’s not too many of them out there.
Pretty sure you had to prove you were over 65 yrs. old to qualify to purchase the old Azera.
Wasn’t that the demographic they were shooting for, the Grand Marquis and LaSabre crowd?

I checked the status of my ballot after mailing, it was counted within 5 days or so. I wasn't worried, not that it matters in WA for most ballot choices anyway, some things are fairly certain.

76K sticker, nobody will actually pay that. And that's equipped with most or all of the nannies/assists. The car in the pics appears to be pretty loaded, the "flowing lines" wood is not an inexpensive option.
The MY 17-20 cars are very similar inside, slightly different steering wheel, different touchpad, and they have an analog clock. Otherwise, I think the design elements are carryover. The facelift car does have a host of electronic updates, and the 6cyl car is now an I6 with electric assist. The "augmented video" option looks like it could be a fun toy.
I love that dashboard except the round vents. It reminds me of a mid 80s G-body Grand Prix.
I'd like the looks of rectangular vents more....but, my guess is they used the round ones so the air could be directed more accurately.......and it does do that very well.

I didn't notice the missing analog clock until you mentioned it fin. It's a nice touch but I never look at it...I use the digital ones which are more in the line of site.
Thanks for the pictures bwia, MB freshened the car up, it looks smoother and sleeker, but not enough changes to make me want to trade my 2017 E. The MB has small touches that make it look more refined than the Azera, although the Azera is probably a good value for the price.
The Azera was Hyundai's attempt to build a car for the traditional Buick/Avalon buyer. The first-gen car was sold here in Canada (not well, but it was available) but I don't think the second-gen version like the one pictured ever made it to this market. The generation introduced in 2006 had many issues IIRC, from electrical gremlins to suspension problems to the typical Hyundai engine failure. Not sure about the more recent versions.

I don't use mine to tell time though, but I like it as a traditional thing - I am pretty sure this is the first E (maybe the first MB sedan) to lack an analog clock. Also for W213, the clock font is the same as in mid 00s AMG cars and later used on S-class, part of a partnership with IWC watches. I have a watch with this font, so I like the connection.
Unfortunately, the "luxury" trim with formal grille and hood ornament has been dropped from the NA market, as I like that trim, the decision will impact future purchases. I am also not a fan of the new rear lights. However, the new I6 is an interesting engine, and the rest of the car looks good.

I am thinking they dropped the analog clock since young people probably can't tell the time using it. As we discussed before, I prefer the sports grill as do 80 or 90% of the people who purchase an MB. I like the new one, and the I6 should be an improvement.....though I have been perfectly happy with the V6 - can't imagine it being better.

To be fair, young people don't generally buy an E anyway, it's an older person's car, and I can say that as someone who isn't ancient yet, but has had several of them. You are probably on to something though, it is the false pretense of youth (and sport) that drives so many design decisions, even though it is not aimed at young people, and not a sports car. MB has been desperate to shed the old image, as BMW/Audi have a younger image.

base model, skin top. And not likely actually a rental, just using the "street slang" for a lower option car.
OK, now I get you. In the past companies like Enterprise ordered rental spec cars with certain options deleted. This got them in trouble when they sold them on the retail market and buyers found out things like side airbags were missing. I don’t think they do that any more and the company has a wide range of trim levels from base to top line.

I bought 6 cars from dealers when I lived in Bellevue. I didn't need to do any performance stuff either. I had my own test drive route - I wanted to cruise on 405 at ~65 for a few miles, and drive on one of a few rough roads in Kirkland and Bellevue. That all I needed to know. I didn't like the pre-planned routes, but the salesmen I was driving with got over it.
I bought my W126 from a dealer, when I lived in Bellingham (the car was barely over 10 years old then, hard to imagine). I remember the salesman complimented me on being a "mellow" driver, which amused me, as I am often like Darren McGavin cursing out his furnace in 'A Christmas Story'. But that sweet old beast was the kind of car to encourage calm driving.
I recall a horror story from someone in my old office. She was a "new driver", no car, no insurance, test drove some generic CUV I think at a Kirkland GMC dealer, and smacked it into a tree. I remember there was some legal drama over that one, and apparently they didn't even check to see if she had a license.
I probably would not have enjoyed a test drive with you and you probably wouldnt have liked me telling you to slow down. If I got a kid that I knew was apt to pull something I would tell him I had two rules. 1. Don't break the speed limit or any laws and 2. Don't scare me. I never used to scare easily at all but my 13 years in the car business has made me a nervous rider. I had people do some of the dumbest things. Some would twitch the steering wheel back and forth. Some wouls take their hands off the steering wheel and after a half block the car might drift slightly to the right on a banked road. IT PULLS TO THE RIGHT! I put up with almost anything but if they did something REALLY stupid or life threatening I wouldn't put up with it. I once spotted a group of guys that I knew would be a whole lot of no fun to deal with. I went the other way and a rookie sales guy got stuck with them. They took a new Civic down the freeway 90 MPH and started jerking the steering wheel! It went off the road and flipped on it's side. Nobody badly hurt. A new car went to the junkyard.
The same people who own the Honda store where I worked used to own the Acura Store in Southcenter. One night a young kid managed to do something stupid at high speed and kill himself in a new Integra. The salesguy survived but was badly injured. During me tenure at Honda I can remember three or four wrecks. A couple prettty bad. I kept a pretty tight leash depending on who it was.

MB knows they have to capture the younger buyer too. That is why they have AMGs and BMW has Ms and Audi R/S's. Cater to a younger demographic. Once my 76 year old neighbor was very proud he bought a new MB. His 30 something girlfriend told him he should have got a BMW, the MB was an old man's car. I think I remember you mentioning that once. That's horrible.
Any time I wanted to do something out of the ordinary on a test drive I always ask the salesperson first; if one was with me. Usually they agreed since it wasn't anything dangerous...maybe sudden acceleration or quicker than normal through a curve (depending on the car).

Many MBs are old man (or woman) cars lol. I don't think I've seen anyone under 60 in a late model SL, even AMG variants. S-class is similar, although for these models the demographic was maybe not much different even 30-40 years ago.

Agree, but lots of younger people buy CLA's and C Class MBs. But, that was the idea, get them in at a younger age and they will move up to a larger, more expensive, more comfortable MB later in life.
Average ages: The global average age of a Rolls-Royce customer is 45 years old, down from 56 seven years ago. So, quick update...... Couple more surgeries scheduled as pressure in my eye continues to run high. Plus, either the surgeon put too much oil in my eye to hold the retina in place (which has detached 3 times), or according to him, I insist on sleeping on my back, which I assured him I don’t. I never have been a back sleeper. And to make totally certain I don’t sleep on my back inadvertently, I tape a lemon to my back so I’ll wake up if I roll onto my back. It’s to the point where I’m getting very annoyed with him trying to blame me for his screw up.
So, now we’re pushing for me to be able to see shapes and colors out of the eye. May take a couple more surgeries to remove some scar tissue. Plus, the continued needles in the eye to relieve pressure. But, getting the retina healed and in place is the goal so far. Further surgeries won’t be until the Christmas/New Year time frame.
In the meantime, my transport business has tailed off....mainly because I’m not out there talking to SMs/GMs/owners of dealerships all the time keeping my finger on their pulse. I offered it to my friend who who’s been keeping things afloat during my recovery. He doesn’t want to work that much, though. No blame...he’s retired and likes staying that way.
As a result, I’ve sent out letters to those I’ve either done business with, or those who might be planning to use my transport services that I would cease operations as of November 15.
It was fun while it lasted. Enjoyed meeting a ton of new people and got a peak into the different dealerships in and around my general area. Plus, I had more than one offer to “talk to the manager personally” if I want to get a “deal” on a car. I even had a couple of offers to join their sales management staffs.
Want to thank those of you who offered to help. Truly appreciate your generosity. Y’all are a bunch of really good people.
A shame we live so far away as this would be the best of both worlds for me. Seems like the business was really starting to take off and by having a couple folks to help ya would've made all the difference in the world. I've tried to get work at all the local places but once they see my cane, they discount me immediately as unacceptable, which is a shame really. I've been steadily working going on eight years this January and my cane never has held me back. Hertz and Enterprise had no issues with it as long as I could drive and showed up when I was schedule to work. When the spinal pain was too much to drive, my lead at Hertz always let me just switch my days as it didn't happen very often. And haven't missed a day at Enterprise and my year anniversary is on December 3rd. I've been told to just not walk in using it but that would be dishonest really and after a few steps without it, feel like I'm going to fall over so in reality, need it more than I would like to think.

"It was fun while it lasted. That's probably the best thing we can hope for with every job we take on in life. Funny thing about sleep position. I seemed to always get lower back pain unless sleeping on my side. Good luck with the new plan and hope all goes well.
Also, not so unusual to find a doc who charts patient noncompliance after complications arise.
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.

Thanks for the pictures bwia, MB freshened the car up, it looks smoother and sleeker, but not enough changes to make me want to trade my 2017 E. The MB has small touches that make it look more refined than the Azera, although the Azera is probably a good value for the price.

Unfortunately, the "luxury" trim with formal grille and hood ornament has been dropped from the NA market, as I like that trim, the decision will impact future purchases. I am also not a fan of the new rear lights. However, the new I6 is an interesting engine, and the rest of the car looks good.

Any time I wanted to do something out of the ordinary on a test drive I always ask the salesperson first; if one was with me. Usually they agreed since it wasn't anything dangerous...maybe sudden acceleration or quicker than normal through a curve (depending on the car).

Average ages: The global average age of a Rolls-Royce customer is 45 years old, down from 56 seven years ago. That's lower than the average age of car buyers over all, which hovers around 52, and younger than the average age of luxury car buyers, too, which is 50, according to data from Kelley Blue Book. Buick has an average new-buyer age of 59. At Cadillac it's 52, at Mercedes-Benz it's 51, and at BMW it's 50. (from 2017)
