Those cars you mentioned had mechanical fuel pumps. They were pretty reliable given the mechanical beasts that they were. I think I only had to change 3 of them with all the cars I had. I’m pretty sure my ‘95 Bonneville was the first car I owned that had an electrical fuel pump that was in the gas tank.

You haven't lived until you have started a car in cold weather and had to step on the gas pedal once and then skillfully use the choke or the car would install, and the most exciting part was when you flooded the engine. Then had to keep your foot on the gas pedal to clear it and try starting it again. Those were the good old days when cars were cars.
It sounds like you shoulda called the guy on those cold days.

Yeah those were the good old days not like the crappy cars they make today where they start right up in cold weather and don't stall and have no choke that you have to skillfully use and you could drive right after starting.

I would suspect that any car these days that doesn't have a complete window frame around the window would do that. The problem I found with that is that at times in freezing rain or slushy snow that freezes you will get ice at the bottom of the window that prevents the window from going down and as such prevents you from opening the door. So either have an ice scraper outside the car you can use to remove the ice or have a remote start to warm up the car and melt the ice.

Probably a W220 (S-class MY 2000-2006). Especially on 00-02 models, the air suspension is a guaranteed fail point at some time. A replacement part apparently is a permanent fix, but isn't cheap, a couple grand to do every wheel, I think.
Some E-class from 03+ also have this, but it seems to fail less on those cars. S-class since then also have it, but it fails far less often.

I saw it as a novel device that could fail and cause problems. It was fun to watch: I'd be sitting in my car listening to talk radio and sipping my flavored decaf coffee when he would unlock the doors. The windows jerk down slightly, he opens door, gets in, and when door closes the window moves up slightly.

The skies are dark and ominous looking and very windy right now. Forecast is for rain and thunderstorms throughout the day and night. Tomorrow, the tropical storm/hurricane (whatever it becomes after it crosses Cuba) is expected to hit us in South Florida with torrential rains and heavy winds. This is supposedly going to be a flooding event in that 6-10 inches of rain is expected with Eta for us in Miami/Dade and Broward Counties. We are going to be on the "dirty" side of the storm where the rains and winds are more severe.
According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, the storm is strengthening and could become a category 1 hurricane after passing Cuba. The "Cone of Uncertainty" shows the southeast coast of Florida (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach) in the storms path. This storm is not going to skirt us - they are expecting a direct hit. The scout planes they use to determine strength of a tropical storm/hurricane collected data showing wind gusting over 80 mph as it continues to strengthen. Pressure (millibars) is dropping rather quickly showing that strengthening.
I just put my hurricane shutters down on my terrace and will eventually place a half dozen towels up against the bottom of my front door just in case the winds come from the southwest. This is not much fun, guys!

I changed the mechanical fuel pump on my 63 corvette a couple of summers ago. What an interesting job. I clamped the fuel line with two clamps - not very well. I had gas running down my arm and into my armpit then down my side and into my underwear. Awkward.
Such a pain trying to get the actuator rod to stay in while you attach the fuel pump itself. At least it is working...
I always used a dab of grease to stick the rod to the camshaft.

I finally figured that out. I was born December of 1964 so it was a new experience for me!
I'll have to try that headlight cleaner on my mom's Camry. As it ages, one of the lights now gets a little haze over time - only the passenger light, for some reason. I clean it when I visit, but a few months later the haze returns.

I call them back to the earth people, for many years they didn't have TV, kids could only have wooden toys, built a lot of their own home which overlooks the river - some days can see whales, goes fishing in the early morning and catches salmon and shrimp, he always drove old cars that he somehow could keep running.....nice that there are such people around.

Just set aside a couple of hours to do both headlights. Follow the directions and you should achieve the same results. I didn’t have to mask any bodywork so that saved me some time.

This weekend I rebuilt the bottom of one of the van doors that had pretty much disintegrated. It was a challenge to reform the bottom 4 inches with Bondo and spray foam as backing. Looks like a hillbilly hack job but it keeps the critters out.
I’d post pics but ever since Apple installed a software update I can’t use Edmunds system.

Did an end-of-season oil & filter change on the Cutlass today. Given the nice weather I think I will take it out for one last cruise tomorrow, put in some Stabil and fill it to the brim, then put it away for the winter. Given that it was -6C with 4" of snow here on Tuesday the good weather is a definite exception and won't last long.
Funny thing: I noticed over the last year or so that the ride height on it up front had finally come back to normal. Even since some front end work got done a number of years ago (10?) it had sat a bit high up front. For whatever reason it has now come back to where it should be. The downside to that is that doing an oil change without putting it up on stands is now a lot more difficult, but I got it done.
Forecast is sunny and 60s/70s here until the later part of next week. It's delayed the storage of both cars as a result, not a bad thing since I'm still waiting on a cover for the BMW.

I tried one kit on my 08 Cobalt several times. Always was not great results and clouded back up.
I found what works best: I bought new headlamps out of the multitude of choices on Ebay. They're lasted years now without clouding up.
New headlights for the Clubman are $257 per side. $514 vs. $20 and a couple of hours of effort wasn't a difficult choice.
I hope it lasts longer for you than my trials lasted. I shopped ebay and read reviews for what they were worth. Weren't the cheapest offered but brand was slightly different and has slight smoked tone to plastic. I believe it was about $100-125 total for both sides.
Big difference in cost for Clubman vs Cobalt in aftermarket. But they came wired and with bulbs.

@driver100 ....obviously personal opinion. But, the others I drove were either compromised in some way (drivetrain, price, suspension) compared to the others. Camry XSE V6, for example. Is it the fastest in its price category? No, but it does have a smoothness that is usually more like a Lexus. Same for the Avalon, only with more equipment and better materials.
F150 is so good for what it does. I don’t need or want one. But, if you need a full size pickup, it’s the best of the bunch that I drove.
There is such a big difference in driving the RDX vs a Chevy Traverse, it’s not even close. Yet, the couple of Traverse’s I transported had MSRPs that were equal to, or exceeded the RDX. Again, material quality, driveline, etc on the RDX were head and shoulders better than the Traverse.

a) how do you do the @driver100 in blue....which everyone seems to be able to do? b) I like the comments like comparing the Tranverse to the RDX or the comments about the Camry. Opinions from a knowledgeable but average person (you know what I mean....common, normal person etc.) probably mean more to me than a paid reviewer. If I was in the market for a truck I would definitely keep in mind what you said about an F-150, and same with the other cars mentioned. Maybe your next profession could be giving 5 minute comparison reviews.....kinda like Scotty but with a lot more polish.

Yes... only did one lens, as the other had obviously been replaced at some point. Was amazed at the results, but with the other one being new, it was easy to see the degradation after 8-9 months.
The cosmetics didn't bother me, but it was cloudy enough that it affected the headlight quality.. Not my problem, now!

Yeah... cheapest aftermarket lens for the Fit was nearly $200. Plus, they are body color specific. Just not worth it on a $4K car.

Simply type in the word or words you want to have as a link, highlight the word(s) and above the comment box next to the Emotorcons is a button that looks like a very short chain. Yeah I am having fun doing this.

Not to sure, I know that if there are more than one quote it automatically displays the last quote and allows you to show previous ones. What I wish was that there was a way to go directly to any post that quoted a post from the quoted post. Did any of you guys felt an earthquake about 9:00 am EST this morning? Don't know if the entire house shook but we heard a loud noise as dishes, and pots & pans rattled. It lasted for about 15 seconds and then all went quiet.

I bought it at Best Buy and the company is TCL. I understand they are now dominating the low-end market segment around the world and this QLED model, the TCL 8-Series mini-LED, is their flagship competing directly with Sony, LG and Samsung.

Just set aside a couple of hours to do both headlights. Follow the directions and you should achieve the same results. I didn’t have to mask any bodywork so that saved me some time.

This weekend I rebuilt the bottom of one of the van doors that had pretty much disintegrated. It was a challenge to reform the bottom 4 inches with Bondo and spray foam as backing. Looks like a hillbilly hack job but it keeps the critters out.

Funny thing: I noticed over the last year or so that the ride height on it up front had finally come back to normal. Even since some front end work got done a number of years ago (10?) it had sat a bit high up front. For whatever reason it has now come back to where it should be. The downside to that is that doing an oil change without putting it up on stands is now a lot more difficult, but I got it done.

F150 is so good for what it does. I don’t need or want one. But, if you need a full size pickup, it’s the best of the bunch that I drove.
There is such a big difference in driving the RDX vs a Chevy Traverse, it’s not even close. Yet, the couple of Traverse’s I transported had MSRPs that were equal to, or exceeded the RDX. Again, material quality, driveline, etc on the RDX were head and shoulders better than the Traverse.
Just some of the examples.

b) I like the comments like comparing the Tranverse to the RDX or the comments about the Camry. Opinions from a knowledgeable but average person (you know what I mean....common, normal person etc.) probably mean more to me than a paid reviewer. If I was in the market for a truck I would definitely keep in mind what you said about an F-150, and same with the other cars mentioned. Maybe your next profession could be giving 5 minute comparison reviews.....kinda like Scotty but with a lot more polish.
