Sounds impressive. Does it have a brand name or is it a No-Name product. Where did you buy it? What made you buy this one compared to the others? Questions....questions?????????

I bought it at Best Buy and the company is TCL. I understand they are now dominating the low-end market segment around the world and this QLED model, the TCL 8-Series mini-LED, is their flagship competing directly with Sony, LG and Samsung.
Costco is advertising a 65" LG for $379. in my area. That is sort of unbelievable.
That must be an open box price. I don't see anything that low on their website. The Highsense however have a much lower price for the 65"

@imidazol97 - Did the window actuators go bad on that TTS? What made it "less dependable?" My money is on that window actuators go bad when it's time to go bad, not on how many movements of 1/4" they do. For instance, the only power window that went bad on my A3 in 8 years was a rear window that surely got used less than the front windows. So far so good on my '16 TTS with 45K miles (knock on wood). The 1/4" movement seems to work for a good seal, very little wind noise even at 90 MPH.:open_mouth::smile:

I saved a life today. Maybe instead of putting little yellow signs on their cars and their yards that tell drivers to watch out for motorcycles, the cyclists should put up signs to watch for red lights and to ride carefully.

It's called natural selection. I didn't own a car until I was 21. Prior to that I rode motorcycles for five years, first in the mountains of AZ, then in Tempe. I learned quickly that if I wasn't paying attention for sure no one else was.

Either way, thanks for saving him. . .for now. His time will come.

Hey, I wired a large chunk of change to your State! Specifically Arrowhead BMW as they had a low-mile 2015 S4 in Misano Red that they should be delivering to me by truck shortly. Deal is done; now that the money is paid. Will be daily driving the S4 again.

Looks good. Glass shop did the headlight cover on the Fit, last year. $50 for one side. Looked as good as new. But, 8 months later, and it was 70% of the way back to the way it was before. (very, very cloudy)

Did the shop put a clear coat over the lenses? Otherwise I hear they oxidize from UV pretty quick.
I paid some young guy to do my A3 a long time ago, and even paid the "extra" upcharge for the UV clear coat blocker, but it didn't last anyway. I got them to redo the work one time under warranty as it only lasts a few months instead of a year or two as warrantied. 3rd time I tried to get warranty service I got ignored, they went out of business, or all of the above. I think it was some "Living Social" bargain deal, I think they went under too?

they just opened a new Costco not too far from us. We were planning going for a look-see. I have never actually been inside one. Not really convenient enough to join, and we did recently renew at BJs.

might do it when i start thinking about new cars again.

I wish they would open one in Deptford but with Sam's and BJ's already there the market is saturated.

I'm getting a membership next year even if I never use it, because the savings on a new ride if there is a program is substantial especially on a lease.

    RE: Chick Fil A
We had our friend's kids over the weekend (they keep ours busy, lol) and wife and I each took two kids and divided and conquered some shopping we needed to do. Around 2 everyone was hungry and all the kids agreed to CFA. So I did an App order for everyone to the tune of $60. Wouldn't you know they forgot all the kid's nuggets and I had to go back. They replaced the whole order and gave me a bunch of coupons.

    RE: TV's
I just picked up a 65" 4K Samsung for our bedroom for $479 on sale from PC Richard. For the money it has an amazing picture. I still like our 65" Sony downstairs better, but it's close. With the little ones still running around I just can't drop the money for an OLED or fancier sets right now.

The 65" Samsung (lower line) I picked up at Costco for $529 a few weeks ago was in-store only, not on the site.

That TV is going to $479 in Black Friday deals, I think, and is a heck of a deal if one isn't the most demanding of the latest tech - as I watch mostly streaming stuff anyway (I just cut the cord), it works for me, I am pleased with the quality for the price point.

I think MB may have done it that way in the past, too. The W123 was a heavily engineered tank of a car, at far less of a price than the larger models. But being a MB, most everything was still "optional". Maybe MB has reversed it now, there's a lot of standard stuff on a 2021 that was optional 5 years ago. Of course, some of this can be found standard on lower priced brands, but the badge drives demand.

I am a little different, as old MBs are what got me into the brand. And the cars that were new when I was a kid, but are old now.

I'm one of the younger whipper-snappers that Audi picked up into the brand with the release of the new A3 in 2006.

Although Audi continues to be successful with the A3/S3, I think they offered much better bang for the buck nearly 15 years ago. I suppose the newer cars have more bells, whistles, gadgets, and electronic doo-dads, including nanny driving assistance features. I valued the far less "cost cutting" the original A3's had. I felt like Audi was subsidizing the entry level models just a bit; that's value.

    6. Quality bolstered seats with sport package.
    5. In 2006 "free" maintenance to 50K miles.
    6. Standard audio system had a subwoofer (not a very good one, but it had one).

A 2020 A3 would probably be missing a lot of this, especially if you don't go "prestige" trim.

Audi interiors are top notch. I'm impressed with all the little details the Q5 has. Even ambient lights under the front seats that light up the floor at night. Overall very tastefully done. I was considering a '17 A4 to replace the Accord. However the inventory has really dried up and those that I've found locally have more miles on them than I prefer and are priced too high. The Passat is no A4, but it has that Germanic feel to it that other cars don't. The Passat is a good car that the press likes to beat on. Oh well, I like it.

I don't think that the window actuators go bad very often these days. 50-60 years ago you were pushing your luck with the power windows on a car that was 5 years and/or 60K miles or older. As a teenager it wasn't uncommon to know someone who had power window issues on cars that old. Today it is rare to have an issue with a power window on cars up through 150K miles or more.

you people need to stop all this TV talk. I am getting the itch, and really don't want to spend the money right now!

we did tentatively pick out a new front door setup for the house. That gets painfully expensive (we have the double opening with sidelights, which really jacks up the cost). And the long overdue new shed is arriving next week, so half of that still to be paid.

Would have been cheaper to just sell the old place as-is last month when the prices were crazy, even though we have no place to go!

Since you brought it up, I was the first guy in my original neighborhood to get a garage door opener (built it new in ‘69 and about 8 years later got the opener. Of course I installed it myself.) Well, you’d have thought I hit the lottery because my neighbors kept telling me, “it must be nice to...”. When I told them what I paid for it, they all said, “I didn’t know the price of them dropped that much”. I’d say within a month almost everyone got one and had it installed. Only one guy did it himself but he asked me for a little help at one point but he did most of the hard part himself. All the wives thanked Mrs. j because they hated lifting their doors.

Once again I was ahead of the curve on stuff like that.😎

That's a good CFA. We drive thru ours since inside is not open in Ohio due to China Virus, pick up food, then park in the lot and eat.

Occasionally something was done wrong. The workers are trained that the customer is #1. If one of the workers sees me coming toward the building carrying a sack with my illegally-required mask on, they ask "What did we get wrong." AND they fix it with an apology. E.g., gave us a small chicken soup rather than large soup last week. She said take the little one home instead of giving it back, and she got a large size soup for my lovely bride. They gave chicken nuggets one time instead of chicken strips (6 strips instead of 4 were ordered).

Today a worker walking orders to the preorder parking slots, 8 or 9 of them, came to us to see if we needed something--she thought we might have just parked in the wrong area thinking we would be getting our order brought out.

They really work to get the orders straight. A manager is usually checking the bags. I can see mixing up the box of nuggets with a box of chicken strips. The soup was wrong on the order--second time that same young man ordered something wrong. I like when they read back the order to me, so I can think if that's exactly what they should have punched in.

Owner had his XR6 Vette there today. I think he has another Vette as well, or that's the director. And a few large GMC or Chevy trucks between them. My kind of place.

So the new house has claimed my big toe, a glass panel and a $250 plumbing call to fix an extremely clogged toilet that leads to an ejector pump in the basement. I wasn't messing with it fearing I could hurt the pump. I swore it was a toy from the PO kids but it wasn't. Just a giant clump of baby wipes. Why do people insist on flushing those?

Yes, but is your Malibu a frameless window? That's the key. The Neon had frameless windows believe it or not, and it didn't have the 1/4" movement trick, and it had a TON-O-Wind Noise through leaky seals at any speed. Big problem area, something I remember making Dodge spend some money and time on during warranty. One of the things the planned obsolescence engineers didn't get right to last exactly 3 years.

Speaking of which, has anyone been watching the latest season of Fargo? Set in Kansas City in 1950, lots of great period vehicles being used. I think I've seen a Cadillac and a Chevrolet, but my knowledge of cars from that era is pretty thin.

He replaced it with a more dependable vehicle, CTS. Both purchased on the internet. He's had the CTS for at least 4 years.

"Just another feature to go bad". I used to say that about garage door openers.

Yes, but were you the first on your block to go from Black and White to Color TV?
I don’t know about the block but when I got married I lived in an apartment building that had 5 other units and I know that none of them had a color TV. They were pretty expensive in 1967 but since NBC announced in the Spring of ‘67 that all of their Fall programming was going to be in color, I bit the bullet and bought a 25 inch RCA console job. Even with my mothers discount (she worked at one of the department stores) I remember spending 750 bucks for it. I didn’t even make that much in a month back then but I didn’t want to go half way and buy a soon be obsolete black and white job. Not the least bit sorry about that either. But man, that beast was expensive.😳

Maybe I'll go back tomorrow morning and see if they will give me the egg and the cheese I paid for. A biscuit with just bacon between the halves is a little dry. B)

You and me both - I guess all of our TV's are "dumb" in the sense that the only streaming we can do is through Comcast, or the Fire Stick or Apple TV that the daughter has installed. I've downloaded a show from HBO Max to my phone and it seems to be near impossible to stream it to the TV in our living room.
My TV is dumb in the sense that what comes out of it.

I ordered a Number 5 with bacon. Maybe I said "bacon" too forcefully.

I like Chic fil A but I won’t sit in their drive thru line, they are way too long. In fact their lines are so long everyone laughs about it. Sure hope we get a vaccine soon so I don’t just have a memory of how good they are.☹️

We always go to the Chuck-fil-A when we’re in a city that has one. They are take out only right now. It take about 10 minutes to order and pick up even when the line looks like it stretches into the next state.

no way I would get on that mess of a line at chickies. If I really felt the desire to go, would park far away and walk over to go inside.

we go by one all the time, pretty close to our house. Opened about 4 years ago. I think we went once, when they first opened and they sent out free sandwich coupons. Though we often stopped at one somewhere in VA right off I95, on our way to NC when the princess was in college down there.

There is a Chick-Fil-et in the food court at the Boca Town Center Mall where I walk on weekdays. I love their 4-piece chicken strip meal with fries an a Diet Coke. No chicken tastes anywhere near as good as Chick-fil-et’s chicken. I usually stop in there once a month as a treat to myself.😜🤓

vapor lock, freezing in the winter, dealing with a choke. That goes way back. But I honestly can't recall ever having to deal with a fuel pump. My oldest car was a 1967 (6 cylinder Camaro) that was replace by a 74/75 Duster. So I never really dealt with the truly old stuff.

Those cars you mentioned had mechanical fuel pumps. They were pretty reliable given the mechanical beasts that they were. I think I only had to change 3 of them with all the cars I had. I’m pretty sure my ‘95 Bonneville was the first car I owned that had an electrical fuel pump that was in the gas tank.

    jmonroe

If a car failed to start today, people would panic and sell it immediately. Used to be a common occurrence. On one old car I owned, at times I would have to open the hood and bang on the shift linkage to get it unstuck so it would shift. Just ordinary stuff.
I’ve had a car with a bad fuel pump that I had to bang the tank to get going and one with a bad starter that I had to whack with a hammer. I always carried a hammer in the trunk.

we did tentatively pick out a new front door setup for the house. That gets painfully expensive (we have the double opening with sidelights, which really jacks up the cost). And the long overdue new shed is arriving next week, so half of that still to be paid.

Would have been cheaper to just sell the old place as-is last month when the prices were crazy, even though we have no place to go!

That reminds me. I was taking out an old bed frame to the trash last night and the storm door bounced back shattering the bottom glass. I was in dog house for that one. Luckily it's new and using the serial number Andersen's website guided me right to the replacement part.

You’re lucky it was only baby wipes, I was watching a YouTube video by a plumber who had to fix concrete poured in all the drains by a disgruntled previous plumber.

Please tell me that you paid for a PPI (and that it comes with two key fobs)

If my wife's car stranded her, I would get an earful. If it did it a 2nd time, it would no longer be her car as she would refuse to drive it any longer. Could be a problem now, since we only have 1!

Yep that's it. If you temper your expectations to its place in the model lineup, you'll probably be pleased.

No complaints of substance with mine - the remote is a little crowded and there can be just a tiny amount of lag going between inputs, but for the size and price, it's great, picture quality is fine for my use.

Which is wacky, because compared to GDP, American stimulus efforts are lagging other rich nations.

Of course, I'll wager less of our stimulus expenses have gone to actual people than in other nations, too.

Tonight my wife and I drove the Clubman to an event in Eastern Jefferson County(nowhere the dystopian fiasco that is Downtown Louisville). The restored headlamp lenses finally let the Philips 9008 X-tremeVision bulbs shine(no pun intended). I'm a stickler for decent lighting; the Club Sport has Phillips Vision Plus bulbs installed and the Wrangler sports Hella E Codes with Osram Night Breaker bulbs.

As an aside, there's still little to no speed enforcement on I-265. I was hanging about at around 85 mph and was passed by more than a few vehicles.

You're lucky. There's a portion of I-70 here, from Breezewood to the Maryland line that still has a 55 mph speed limit for some reason. You can go 65, but it's not wise to go faster. I don't even bother with the V1 through that part.

We won't be doing that route much any more since our son and his family moved to PA.
