got ambitious today since had nothing else to do after we got back from food shopping, so downloaded the tax software and started that. Ended up finishing it all up and double checking, so went ahead and filed early. Hopefully I don't get screwed with a late adjusted 1099DIV from Vanguard (they did release them all last week so hopefully safe).
smaller refund than last year, but at least I didn't have to send the IRS money (that hurts to do).
Still waiting on one W2 and then off to accountant. All screwed up this year. Multiple employers, unemployment and the extra unemployment from the fed. Going to be an interesting tax year.
It’s even tougher if you’re a dinosaur like me who does paper returns. IRS response to forms is “unavailable”. How about if I just sent them a note saying “bill me”?

It has been so long since I had paper, no clue where you even get them. Used to be the PO but I am sure they stopped. Are your libraries up there even open? I suppose you could download them from the IRS website.
Or of course, hire an accountant if you don't want to brave doing it yourself online or with software on your computer!

Was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about cars. He and his wife are getting ready to replace theirs. He is kind f believing that ICE vehicles are going to get replaced fairly soon, although we did agree that charging is going to be an issue. Later, when out for a drive, I saw something interesting, at last to me. A guy was raking the snow off part of his house roof, just a small section. The rest of the roof was covered with solar panels, but they were still covered with snow. That means he hadn't made any electricity in about a week, snow ended Monday morning.

I'm still waiting on a couple of 1099 forms and some charitable receipts.
That got me to thinking. I contribute to St. Jude Hospital and don't remember ever getting a receipt. It usually isn't a huge amount, but I do it several times a year. Has anyone got a receipt from them?
Here the metro region library has the basic forms for IRS in the pamphlet. 1040, 1040 for old folks, Schedule 1 and a couple of others. But any capital gains and schedule B? for interest and dividends must be downloaded from irs.gov.
The libraries have the Ohio instructions booklet--only the instructions. All forms have to be downloaded.
I haven't asked but the library used to have a ring notebook with copies of all the forms for people to use at the Xerox machine to make copies. I assume that's gone because of fear of someone touching the pages.

In recent years they’ve made it difficult for paper filers. Online unavailable. Libraries, post offices have none. Last year I actually went to the state tax office and they had none. Can you believe that?
I’ll probably just have my son download them and print them out for me. It’s getting to be a battle of wills where I want to make the government do as much work as possible to hand process the paper to extract my money.

The CVT in the Honda is supposed to be better built than the Nissan. The Rav 4 is nice but I hated the electronic nannies jerking the wheel every time you got near the white line. CRV is very popular. The few I’ve driven had a little more road noise than the others.

It is hard to predict the future.....whatever happened to those little personal helicopters we were all going to be flying?
It's HERE!!!!
Now at a local air national guard base for testing. $226,000 of Ohio taxpayer money subsidizing this. As reported in the Dayton Daily Nothing.
I can just imagine the BMW and MB versions of this flying car. LOL
This Mercedes car looks much better; or this one;
Those aren't real. They're not working models. Like the 1950's idea, they're vaporware.
This is real

Real, but just sitting in a hangar with guys looking at it like it might explode at any time. They seldom show pics of these things flying in the real world.
once you have gone online and entered everything into the forms, instead of printing them out and paying for postage, might as well just use the online version of the tax software, and file them electronically. If nothing else, if you are getting a refund, you will get it sooner!
I will admit, I do mail tax forms in still, but only for the state. The software I use is federal and includes Efile, and has a state package. But only to prep. If you want to efile those, they want n extra $20. So I just print out a copy, and mail that in. To save $20, I can wait another couple of weeks to get my state refund.

there are free versions, but only for the more routine returns. I doubt you could do business related (such as the farm) that way. But if you are retired, or a young person with a normal job and no deductions, it works fine. My daughter will be home next weekend to visit, so she is bringing her tax folder and doing it here. I used to do it for her, but last year made her do it all while I supervised. This year I will just be here for tech support I think.

No but when you make your own you don’t have to worry about that. You probably know someone who has a receipt from them so all you have to do is make a copy of theirs and just use their letterhead and follow their format to make your own. Don’t get lazy and decide to just use the one you made a copy from by using white-out for yours. The IRS really frowns when they audit you and find a sloppily forged receipt with telltale signs of the use of white-out. I’m sure our poster buddy @snakeweasel can confirm this.

Although it’s styling could be polarizing, I’m really liking the soon to be introduced 2022 Hyundai Tucson. It seems to have a lot of bang for the buck and a beautiful interior, and will be available also as hybrids. They’re due out in the Spring but you can check it out now on YouTube. smaller refund than last year, but at least I didn't have to send the IRS money (that hurts to do).
It will probably come to the point where it will be so much easier to just do the electronic return. You can prepare it then have someone print it out and mail it in. Either that or pay to have them filed electronically.
The software is on the different websites (TurboTax, etc). No purchase required as far as I know.
there are free versions, but only for the more routine returns.
I forgot he still sells tomatoes.
Yeah, but that doesn’t mean he has to brag about it to the IRS.

I'm still waiting on a couple of 1099 forms and some charitable receipts.
That got me to thinking. I contribute to St. Jude Hospital and don't remember ever getting a receipt. It usually isn't a huge amount, but I do it several times a year. Has anyone got a receipt from them?
If you sent them a check then you should have the canceled check or be able to download a copy of it from your banks website. If you paid by Credit Card then you should see that on the CC statement. If you paid online then it should show up on your bank statement. If you paid by cash then you're $%#@ out of luck.
From the Revenue Confiscators themselves:
The written acknowledgment required to substantiate a charitable contribution of $250 or more must contain the following information:
Name of the organization;
Amount of cash contribution;
Description (but not value) of non-cash contribution;
Statement that no goods or services were provided by the organization, if that is the case;
Description and good faith estimate of the value of goods or services, if any, that organization provided in return for the contribution; and
Statement that goods or services, if any, that the organization provided in return for the contribution consisted entirely of intangible religious benefits, if that was the case.
I'm waiting for the usual suspects to talk about about how much they love paying taxes- and wish that they could pay more...

Also disturbing what can be counted as a nonprofit, and trash like "Project Veritas" received more than half a million dollars, while people who actually work and bring something to the world have been struggling.
Regarding moans about paying too much tax, Americans pay relatively little compared to other developed wealthy nations, but receive little as well, so Americans could be overtaxed from a cost vs benefit standpoint. But those delicious bennies for citizens deluxe, and massive spending black holes aren't going to fund themselves.
Speaking of taxes, on the above web site you can enter your state and zip code and see how much of your tax dollars the gov. gave to your neighbors, etc. You might be in for a shock.
Congrats to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for winning Super Bowl LV! Truly an exciting upset, IMHO. I am a richer man in many, many ways because I witnessed a miracle this evening. An experience to remember.🤓😜🤪
That game was so one-sided, and I don’t mean the actual playing.
That one pass interference call where the KC guy didn’t even touch the TB was something else.
The NFL really let everyone down with this game as a whole.
Soulless National anthem Weak halftime performance (sound engineers should be fired) Poor commercials Poor Officiating Jim Nantz with his is idiotic question to Brady if this was his “best ever”. Yeah the dynasty they had in NE was nothing. I’m not Brady fan, but he did handle that well.
All in all the big game is nothing like it used to be.
Aw, I loved some of the commercials. By far, I thought the funniest was the Alexa ad with Michael B Jordan. Coolest was Cadillac’s Edgar Scissorhands.
For calls... wow, so many. The offsides that never happened and changed a field goal into a TD was absurd. The aforementioned holding call. The unsportsman-like when Brady was the one who chased down Mathieu. And so many more. It was all so disgusting. Even the commentators said it was one-sided during halftime, which says A LOT, IMHO.

I had a premonition that this year’s Super Bowl would suck; as a result I didn’t watch a nanosecond of it. In my opinion the best Super Bowl halftime show was Prince in 2007 and the best overall ad was Apple’s classic 1984. My favorite car ad is the 2015 Dodge spot Wisdom.

I wasn't really rooting for either side but it was pretty clear early on that KC wasn't the same team they were earlier in the season and had nothing for TB.
Because the game itself was lackluster it seemed to drag everything else down, plus I assume some Covid-related decisions impacted the broadcast negatively.
For the second week in a row, Nantz didn't seem his usual self (he was off his game on their golf coverage last week also). The CBS broadcast as a whole seemed just sort of meh. Their studio show is always a bit weak but seemed even worse yesterday.
I thought the officials were way overactive but in the end it probably didn't affect the final outcome, just the margin by which TB won.
The halftime show just left me shaking my head. Seemed like a 1930s Busby Berkeley musical production extravaganza on drugs. Bizarre and certainly not worth however many millions it cost. The "wokeness" of much of the game's overall production and ads was a turn-off for me. I can only take so much in the way of inspirational and preachy messaging.
Up here in Canada we were denied most of the commercials by our government regulations. I did get to see the Cadillac one (the ad was just OK but the vehicle looked great) but that was the only one I remember.
I got an email about scams to watch out for. I usually don't pay too much attention but this one might be worth thinking about; Some people left their car in the long-term parking at the airport while away, and someone broke into the car (car could be parked any where actually). Using the information on the car's registration in the glove compartment, they drove the car to the people's home and robbed it. So I guess if we are going to leave the car in long-term parking, we should NOT leave the registration/insurance cards in it, nor your remote garage door opener.
*If your registration is is in the car, with your address, or even if it is on the GPS, and if they start the car they could get into your home through the garage. Even if they don't take your car, they have your address and know your home could be empty. It might help if you take the parking ticket with you....which I have always done. Another thing to think about
If someone is that determined to steal your household belongings I think it would be far easier to just watch for houses that are obviously unoccupied and target those without adding grand theft auto to the list of offenses. I can just imagine getting back from a trip after couple of weeks (not that ppl are traveling much these days) and not having your registration/insurance/GDO/whatever in the car and then getting stopped on your way home or not being able to get into the garage. You simply cannot eliminate all risks entirely.

Thanks for input on my Odyssey. Now the wife has decided to go smaller, like Rogue, Rav 4, CRV or others if someone has a suggestion. Early research shows Rogue and CRV both have CVT and 181 and 191 HP. She requires leather and white exterior with tan interior. Would appreciate suggestions.
Add the Forrester to the list too. And if you want something a little different (and a bit bigger) a Tiguan.

The libraries have the Ohio instructions booklet--only the instructions. All forms have to be downloaded.
I haven't asked but the library used to have a ring notebook with copies of all the forms for people to use at the Xerox machine to make copies. I assume that's gone because of fear of someone touching the pages.
