I can just imagine getting back from a trip after couple of weeks (not that ppl are traveling much these days) and not having your registration/insurance/GDO/whatever in the car and then getting stopped on your way home or not being able to get into the garage. You simply cannot eliminate all risks entirely.
Besides, that's what insurance is for.

Insurance helps but having your car stolen and house broken into is not something people want to have to deal with. I don't think I would actually do this but it would probably be smart to put papers with your address in a little plastic case and take it with. They suggest not putting your own home in your GPS and use a neighbors home.....might not be nice if the neighbors house gets robbed!

I'm still waiting on a couple of 1099 forms and some charitable receipts.

That got me to thinking. I contribute to St. Jude Hospital and don't remember ever getting a receipt. It usually isn't a huge amount, but I do it several times a year. Has anyone got a receipt from them?
If you sent them a check then you should have the canceled check or be able to download a copy of it from your banks website. If you paid by Credit Card then you should see that on the CC statement. If you paid online then it should show up on your bank statement. If you paid by cash then you're $%#@ out of luck.
Well, yes. All of that is certainly true.

For the non-profit I am in charge of (baseball for children with extra needs), we send a personalized letter thanking them for the donation.

I know they can't do that as well as sending a request for a donation every month.

    I got an email about scams to watch out for. I usually don't pay too much attention but this one might be worth thinking about;
Some people left their car in the long-term parking at the airport while away, and someone broke into the car (car could be parked any where actually). Using the information on the car's registration in the glove compartment, they drove the car to the people's home and robbed it. So I guess if we are going to leave the car in long-term parking, we should NOT leave the registration/insurance cards in it, nor your remote garage door opener.

*If your registration is is in the car, with your address, or even if it is on the GPS, and if they start the car they could get into your home through the garage. Even if they don't take your car, they have your address and know your home could be empty. It might help if you take the parking ticket with you....which I have always done.
Another thing to think about :(

If I am going to leave a car parked in a long term parking lot I empty it out so there is nothing in there that can be stolen, The garage door openers are fobs on the key chain so they would be there. The GPS in the BMW thinks we live more than a block away (Not that we would use that car for that purpose).

But we avoid all of that stuff by using a car service to get to and from the airport, it's cheaper than paying long term parking prices.

That one pass interference call where the KC guy didn’t even touch the TB was something else.

The NFL really let everyone down with this game as a whole.

    Soulless National anthem
Weak halftime performance (sound engineers should be fired)
    Poor commercials
    Poor Officiating
Jim Nantz with his is idiotic question to Brady if this was his “best ever”. Yeah the dynasty they had in NE was nothing. I’m not Brady fan, but he did handle that well.

All in all the big game is nothing like it used to be.

I wasn't really rooting for either side but it was pretty clear early on that KC wasn't the same team they were earlier in the season and had nothing for TB.

Because the game itself was lackluster it seemed to drag everything else down, plus I assume some Covid-related decisions impacted the broadcast negatively.

For the second week in a row, Nantz didn't seem his usual self (he was off his game on their golf coverage last week also). The CBS broadcast as a whole seemed just sort of meh. Their studio show is always a bit weak but seemed even worse yesterday.

I thought the officials were way overactive but in the end it probably didn't affect the final outcome, just the margin by which TB won.

The halftime show just left me shaking my head. Seemed like a 1930s Busby Berkeley musical production extravaganza on drugs. Bizarre and certainly not worth however many millions it cost. The "wokeness" of much of the game's overall production and ads was a turn-off for me. I can only take so much in the way of inspirational and preachy messaging.

Up here in Canada we were denied most of the commercials by our government regulations. I did get to see the Cadillac one (the ad was just OK but the vehicle looked great) but that was the only one I remember.
I can only take so much hype about games even weekly games. That’s why I turn on the TV at kick off time. I don’t need hours of anyone telling me what I’m about to watch and I damn sure don’t need them to tell me what I just watched. Enough is enough.

As for the CBS crew, it would be a lot better if Cowher wasn’t there. Him being elected to the Hall of Fame is a farce. And, the way they went about informing him was too much. Having the BIG guy from the Hall of Fame come to the studio to inform him was over the top. They have managed to turn the selection process into a reality show. But the NFL is so big they can survive this type of fluff.

FWIW, I liked the game and as far as bad officiating, it was known that the officiating crew called them close. Don’t try to get away with things and you won’t be penalized. Like I said, the teams knew this so why did KC think a Zebra would change its stripes?

National anthem. Okay but like always "nobody is going to top Whitney."
Halftime performance. It's a victory lap every time that Disney can restrained by force from ever again producing a halftime show based on the Indiana Jones movie franchise.
Poor commercials. We'll always have "I work with a bunch of monkeys."
Poor officiating. And water is wet.

Dan Jenkins was always pretty blunt about the toxic mix of NFL rules combined with bad calls on the field. During a book promotion tour Dan accused the NFL of trying to kill the game by having "some zebra tell me that the ground cannot cause a fumble!"

To me, the worst commercial was the one with the CEO of some company that makes faux milk(I think) singing and playing a keyboard.

I have been in a new survey and the roads are very convoluted.....it would be like trying to get out of a maze to try and find your way to the main road again. Fastest and easiest way is to ask it to direct you home.....then the GPS guides you to the main road. :)

What MERV air filter do others here use on their HVAC system?

An episode for Ask This Old House said 13 is too fine for filters with depth less than
5" because of the small area of the filter material. Causes too much resistance
and is hard on the fan motor.

7:15 is start of article. It has errors in that it claims the filters can stop viruses.
Might catch large particulates of sneeze or cough droplets before they evaporate
    into the air...

This can extrapolate to cabin filters. All the fancy filters with carbon and scents and
trunk monkeys that brush off the dirt accumulation that are advertised to sell parts...
They are made to sound like they do better than the OEM basic air filters to sell.

Do they do better, or does the resistance to air flow as particles are trapped cause more
air to be sucked around the filter frame?

I bought a half-dozen filters in September - MERV 11. Pretty much the cheapest available from Amazon.

When my Lennox system was installed 4 years ago the new box in the house has a 5 x 20 x20 cartridge as
an extra I paid for. I didn't have the electronic air filter put in.

They installed MERV 11 Lennox brand filters. I've stayed with the same brand since I find them occasionally marked down drastically online. 5 in a box. Supposed to be changed once a year, but I do it from 4 to 6 months when they start to show reduced light compared to the new ones.

    Healthy Climate Solutions. Sounds neat?

I agree that the refs had their thumb on the scale. The odd thing is that it wasn't even needed. KC's offensive line could not have stopped a fairly determined girl scout last night. I'm a Chief's fan of course, but I don't lose any sleep when they lose. I also really like Brady. He is definitely the GOAT, and Tampa Bay deserved to win.

That’s a tall order for a guy that has only been playing for 3 years. Lots of things have to go right to play as long as Brady has and they have to go even more right to be as good as he is. Is he a jerk? Maybe so but you can’t deny he’s good, very good and if he played for the team you root for I doubt he’d be a jerk. If you want to know what a jerk is, the guy quarterbacking the Steelers fits that description better than Brady does.

I was thinking similar things a couple of weeks ago, but we still got over 30" of snow, and my driveway is sloped. I had a plan, and I executed it, but it involved getting a plow guy in to clear out the drive and tow the TSX out. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

Much of the snow has melted, but I'm still happy to have Michelin Ice tires on. I was able to drive up and out yesterday to pick up some Mexican food in Heber.

I took the Legacy in for a software update. It is supposed to help with over the air updates. One of the things it added was a button to turn off the stop/start so you don't have to dig through a few menus.

I think I mentioned before: One day I was leaving Lowes and I was behind a young lady at the red light. The light turned green and she didn't move. There was nobody behind us so I just sat there too. She sat through two changes of the light before she looked up from her texting, or whatever she was doing, and noticed a green light.

That picture I posted above was from a few days ago when I wanted to see if it was still working since I hadn't seen it in a while.

No way will we see any bad weather once I've gone to all that trouble...

I had those tires on my BMW. The first winter they were great. The second winter they were really good. By the third winter they got a little squirrely; at, maybe, half tread. That was about 15 years ago. I assume they have improved since then.

No doubt the message is accompanied by a beep or some other sound. They don't call them Helen Keller features for nothing.

    I think there was a beep. I don't remember.

It should be accompanied by a loud siren and blinking lights.

Stop/Start.....interestingly, the “feature” really hasn’t activated at all for months. I’ll assume that’s because as it’s become colder around these parts, the engine stays running to keep the heat flowing.

SuperBowl....I know there is some Brady “distaste” that has run rampant for years. Gotta admit, he’s probably the best QB I’ve ever seen play the game. And, right now, he’s still playing at the pinnacle of QB performance, at an age most NFL players have long retired. I admire him.

The outcome? Whenever there’s so much at stake, people are going to somehow claim they were cheated (hmmmmmmmm????!!!!!) if they lose. Bottom line, maybe a little question here or a call there, but overall, Tampa Bay flat out beat KC, and did so convincingly and soundly.

If you really need that maybe you shouldn't be driving.

That’s a nice practical update. I wonder how many complaints/suggestions Subaru received to prompt that. I like the hard buttons for the basic climate controls and volume tuning knobs. That makes life a lot simpler.

    That's why God invented horns.

I was behind two women in a small SUV, heavily darkened windows, with cute stickers on the rear window. Didn't turn right out of a business service driveway. Didn't move. Horn. Waited 20 seconds again. No move. Horn again. Then lady gave me the finger. I don't know if she was eating her Chick Fil A or City Barbeque order sitting at the stop sign or on phone or what. Cross traffic was light.

We need IQ tests to get a driver license, I think.

I do agree that TB would have won that game even if the calls weren’t so one sided. The point I was trying to make was the calls were obviously not fair.

I’ve also noticed that with the cold snap S/S has a little slash through it and hasn’t activated.

That must be a trend. Yesterday we were in traffic and one lane had to merge into the next due to an accident. The woman in front of us allowed a car to merge in front of her but when the car didn’t pull in fast enough she gave it a double middle finger and started screaming. The juxtaposition of of courtesy and insane rage makes me scared to be on the road these days. :(

We had 3-4 inches of soft, fluffy snow at 20 deg F south of town overnight. A few areas claimed 6 inches. No wind. No drifts.

The morning 5 am TV talking head was in an SUV driven by someone else giving a report about how awful the conditions were for driving. She was practically hysterical in her word choices. The multilane main road they were on had tracks where some were melting down to pavement due to the pretreatment most townships and municipalities put down during the day yesterday.

She told people not to go anywhere unless they had a 4-wheel drive large vehicle. I guess she never heard of front wheel drive and good A/S tires or better.

But the drama some of these media stations put out would scare anyone. I guess she's never heard of 36 inches of snow further east once or twice already this year. LOL

The snow prediction was 1-3 inches so the usual Kroger rush didn't develop. That's changed this year where all the snowflakes weren't scared into clearing the shelves of bread, eggs, and milk on any prediction of the "white death" as was used in previous years. The different shopping patterns with the China Virus have changed things.

This gal, barely out of her teens, would have died when I was a teenager driving a rear wheel drive vehicle that skewed sideways anytime too much power was applied to the rear wheels to push through snow, especially in turns and on curves. Somehow I'll bet she's never driven a rear wheel drive vehicle in snow, not even a BMW.

When KC's left DE went over to the right sideline to jaw at the one zebra who was different than all the others, that caught my attention.
