We had 3-4 inches of soft, fluffy snow at 20 deg F south of town overnight. A few areas claimed 6 inches. No wind. No drifts.

The morning 5 am TV talking head was in an SUV driven by someone else giving a report about how awful the conditions were for driving. She was practically hysterical in her word choices. The multilane main road they were on had tracks where some were melting down to pavement due to the pretreatment most townships and municipalities put down during the day yesterday.

She told people not to go anywhere unless they had a 4-wheel drive large vehicle. I guess she never heard of front wheel drive and good A/S tires or better.

But the drama some of these media stations put out would scare anyone. I guess she's never heard of 36 inches of snow further east once or twice already this year. LOL

The snow prediction was 1-3 inches so the usual Kroger rush didn't develop. That's changed this year where all the snowflakes weren't scared into clearing the shelves of bread, eggs, and milk on any prediction of the "white death" as was used in previous years. The different shopping patterns with the China Virus have changed things.

This gal, barely out of her teens, would have died when I was a teenager driving a rear wheel drive vehicle that skewed sideways anytime too much power was applied to the rear wheels to push through snow, especially in turns and on curves. Somehow I'll bet she's never driven a rear wheel drive vehicle in snow, not even a BMW.

Is it Light and fluffy and easy to drive on or is it the heavier, wet snow with temps closer to 32 and harder to
    drive in.

Beats me... a neighbor saw my wife shoveling and finished it off with his snowblower. I'm getting ready to make a Starbucks run for my wife, so I'll let you know.

My son commutes to Oakley, and the interstates were a mess this morning. 20 minute commute took him over an hour, mostly because of the backups.

Our local streets have been plowed

I put Michelin winter tires on my wife’s RWD BMWs and we never had a moment’s trouble. One time I was driving her 3er down the interstate and I didn’t think the road conditions were all that bad until a couple of SUVs spun into the median in front of me.
The talking head(for some reason I’m thinking "bubble headed bleach blonde”) is just another example of the dumbing down of the typical US vehicle operators(calling them “drivers” is far too generous). These imbeciles think RWD is lethal on any road that isn’t perfectly level, ruler straight, and bone dry.

As for leaving information in your car, when I worked at BMW the GM had me give a 15 minute training session every week and I used to emphasize to the salespeople that they needed to delete any personal information stored in the car. It only took a couple of minutes. Of course no hood deed goes unpunished; I wound up doing 95% of the deletions.

per my wife's research, we are supposed to get snow everyday this week.

as for the officiating discussion, I won't say TB would have won anyway. Butterfly effect and all. One call can lead to a score (like changing a field goal to a TD), which deflates spirits, etc. So we really have no idea what would have happened.

I thought it was normal for winter tires to lose a lot of effectiveness around half tread, by design. Since the outer tread is softer and more siped. Once that’s gone, more of a normal tire. Wes I think says he just runs them over the summer once they get like that, to get full use out of them.

@imidazol97 Sorry, not much news. 28 F here, and the streets have all been plowed. What was left in the parking lot seemed fairly heavy. When my wife told me we got 10" I scoffed at her. But, sure enough. It is pretty slick, if you get into any of it.

Stop/Start.....interestingly, the “feature” really hasn’t activated at all for months. I’ll assume that’s because as it’s become colder around these parts, the engine stays running to keep the heat flowing.

SuperBowl....I know there is some Brady “distaste” that has run rampant for years. Gotta admit, he’s probably the best QB I’ve ever seen play the game. And, right now, he’s still playing at the pinnacle of QB performance, at an age most NFL players have long retired. I admire him.

The outcome? Whenever there’s so much at stake, people are going to somehow claim they were cheated (hmmmmmmmm????!!!!!) if they lose. Bottom line, maybe a little question here or a call there, but overall, Tampa Bay flat out beat KC, and did so convincingly and soundly.

    Don’t bet against Brady.

I think I mentioned before: One day I was leaving Lowes and I was behind a young lady at the red light. The light turned green and she didn't move. There was nobody behind us so I just sat there too. She sat through two changes of the light before she looked up from her texting, or whatever she was doing, and noticed a green light.

    That's why God invented horns.

I was behind two women in a small SUV, heavily darkened windows, with cute stickers on the rear window. Didn't turn right out of a business service driveway. Didn't move. Horn. Waited 20 seconds again. No move. Horn again. Then lady gave me the finger. I don't know if she was eating her Chick Fil A or City Barbeque order sitting at the stop sign or on phone or what. That reminds me of what my Son told me when he went have his windows tinted after he bought his Q37 a few years ago. The guy at the shop was showing him the different tints and when he saw the darkest tint he asked, “who would get their windows tinted that dark”? The guy said, “I think it’s popular with people who don’t want to be seen when they’re at a light texting”. :o

Get a dashcam, upload the video with the license plate number and vehicle info in the description, maybe eventually her kids or friends will find her and be embarrassed.

Driveways around fast food places tend to be the worst, I think the food puts the "driver's" mind in a haze. My old jogging route took me by a Wendy's and Starbucks, always had to be on guard, as people would be completely oblivious.

A really loud horn is fun, too. Honking at someone in the fintail is always an experience, I swear people two blocks up the street will turn around to see what is going on. Regarding snow, I drove that old car in the snow several times when I was younger, never had an issue. I drove my powerful heavy RWD E55 AMG in the snow too, even on low profile tires and marginally maintained suburban Seattle streets, barely any issues. Shopping patterns here don't seem to have changed much either, if one needs to go to Wally World or Costco, go as early as possible, as it becomes a zoo or a page on "People of Wal Mart".

The snow prediction was 1-3 inches so the usual Kroger rush didn't develop. That's changed this year where all the snowflakes weren't scared into clearing the shelves of bread, eggs, and milk on any prediction of the "white death" as was used in previous years. Somehow I'll bet she's never driven a rear wheel drive vehicle in snow, not even a BMW.

It just seems to get worse with the media every year. Last week we had the usual drumbeating about the "massive storm" (some outfit always uses that phrase) heading our way. So we got about 8"-10" of snow in the afternoon, then it changed to car wash-level rain which kept up overnight. By the morning everything was bare and even the older snow/ice that had been on the ground was gone. My thermometer read 50 degrees F when I got up that morning.

Nevertheless our local CBC morning show host tweeted that morning as she walked from home to work about dire conditions to watch out for with icy stretches on the sidewalks.I'm pretty sure the nearest icy patches were in the local hockey rink.

Then starting Thursday of last week the "massive storm" alarms started going off again for Sunday night. It kept up all week with predtictions of "up to 50cm of snow" (that's 20 inches). They key words there were "up to". Here on the coast we weren't getting 50 cm, maybe 50 or 100 miles inland that could be possible, not here. Sure enough, we got about 10" here, a PITA but quite manageable. But that had the masses all whipped up for days on social media. I honestly cannot understand how people live in such fear and let themselves be such drama queens all the time over this stuff. This is winter in Canada, and 10 inches of snow is normal, not the end of the world.

I can just imagine getting back from a trip after couple of weeks (not that ppl are traveling much these days) and not having your registration/insurance/GDO/whatever in the car and then getting stopped on your way home or not being able to get into the garage. You simply cannot eliminate all risks entirely.
Besides, that's what insurance is for.

Insurance helps but having your car stolen and house broken into is not something people want to have to deal with. I don't think I would actually do this but it would probably be smart to put papers with your address in a little plastic case and take it with. They suggest not putting your own home in your GPS and use a neighbors home.....might not be nice if the neighbors house gets robbed!

I don't have my home in the GPS as I know where I live and I know how to get home. I may be getting old but I'm not that old.
GPS can find new routes and shortcuts you might never consider or think of. At least that's what I've found, but then again, I've only lived in certain parts of San Diego County for a few years when I started using GPS. Of course, once you realize the GPS found a better route, then you don't need it anymore.

Seatbelt use is muscle memory for me, my parents were of "this car doesn't move until you're buckled up" mindset.

Cross traffic was light.

We need IQ tests to get a driver license, I think.

I've told my wife a few times, when that happens, "I wish I was driving an old beat-up pickup truck."

I get yelled at every time. You would think a guy would learn. :)
Learning can be done by the other side also but I know what you mean. :'(

I've always used my seatbelt since my 1957 Fairlane 500. I installed seatbelts in it.
IIRC there were pads for belts on the floor.

I'm getting ready to make a Starbucks run for my wife, so I'll let you know.
    Save the planet and your car and time and your wallet..........for about $60;

How does that save the planet? I’d rather save my wallet and not buy overpriced coffee.
By not paying $5 at Starbucks, using your car to drive there when you want a coffee........and basically K-Cups cost about the same for McCafe or Starbucks...maybe 40 cents a cup compared to $5.

I couldn't agree more.....just offering a more convenient, cheaper option.
Sometimes I really wanted a great coffee, so I would stop at Tim Hortons, wait in line, get out my money or card, race home to have a superior coffee.......but, with a Keurig and Tim Horton K-Cups I can make an equally good if not better coffee in the comfort of my own home whenever I want.
Getting a coffee at the source might be a guilty decadent pleasure - and that is something you can't duplicate at home!

Wow, you rich guys and your expensive tastes. Drive to Starbucks to shell out $5 (probably more) for a coffee which IMO tastes like transmission fluid? No thanks. I buy 5 pound canisters of Maxwell House at the warehouse store and make gallons of the stuff at home for $5.

Yes they can, they can also take you down dead end streets, bad neighborhoods and unkept roads. Many times the GPS has said to make a turn I replied "I don't think so". I know one route I take that the GPS has you turning off a road making a left, going to the next road and making a right and taking you right back to the road you were originally on. And that road is perfectly straight so it's not a short cut.

How people spend their money seems to be in the stars today. I just finished listening to an interesting podcast by 2 construction contractors who had a Toronto homeowner and his reno contractor as guests, discussing the homeowner’s experience with the contractor in a 10-month major renovation. Apparently the renovation cost was in the $500K range in the overheated Toronto market. The owner made it clear that money was no issue for him but didn’t want to get taken advantage of. Fine. He spent a lot of time bragging about some of the expensive things he spent money on, fine also. But what didn’t sit well with me was when he began bragging about his kitchen appliances (Wolf & Sub-Zero) and then congratulated himself for his wise purchases. He made everyone laugh uproariously when he said that if he hadn’t been so sharp that he would have ended up with Samsung or GE appliances, god forbid. Apparently the Wolf guy was about to visit him to teach him how to turn on his stove. It doesn’t bother me to hear people talking about how much they spent on something but please don’t make fun of those who don’t or can’t do that.

Unless there's a Manning on the other team playing QB

We buy Dunkin Donuts coffee to brew at home. It’s good but not as good when you get it there. The brewers they use are set to higher, more consistent temps than what I have at home.

Now if I make it in the French Press it’s much closer.

Keurig is very convenient and we use ours a lot, but no K-cup is as good as a brewed pot IMO.

FWIW we do drink our coffee black, so maybe fussier than those who add creme and/or sugar.

I believe I've got the right memory but it seems there were heavier square plates in/on
the floor pan with screw threads in them. The aftermarket belts had a bolt
    that screwed into that threading.
