@venture, I’ve been meaning to ask how Mrs. Venture is doing with her COVID recovery. Mrs. j and I just got home from receiving our first Moderna shot. Hopefully in a month or two we’ll be bullet proof.
jmonroe
Thanks for asking, but it was my daughter. It ended up being her, her husband, and three of the four kids. (I don't know how one escaped). My daughter ended her quarantine yesterday and also got her first injection. She's having a little rough patch right now. The rest of them come off quarantine tomorrow.
Mrs. Venture was hibernating until they got the results of two of her school kids tests back. She got tested in the meantime and it came back negative.
I got my first shot Tuesday and Mrs. Venture gets her jab tomorrow. She had to cancel her previous appointment for obvious reasons.
Just a little sore at the injection site. The first one, generally isn't bad; it's the second one that may put you down for a day or two. That's telling you something "good" is going on in there.
An elementary teacher friend said he is not going to get the vaccine. I deleted what I thought about that.
Hope everything goes well with the families recovery process. Just found out Grandson #2 (16 years old) tested positive yesterday. Kids seem to come out of this pretty well so that’s a good thing.
When I got my stabbing today the pharmacist said she had no problems with her first dose but the second dose put her down for about 12 hours. Not looking forward to that. Let us know how your second does goes. I don’t think @Mike had too much of a problem with his. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how screwed up PA is with coordinating this COVID thing. If I told you how we got our doses you wouldn’t believe me.
That school teacher friend of yours needs a check-up.
It had 216000 miles on it and it was bought by Suburu U.S.A. I wonder what they will do with it? My MB dealer has about 4 older MBs from around the 50s that they have in the showroom. That car is good advertising for a dealer to have around....and the cost would be a write-off for advertising purposes.
I was able to grab one of 700 tickets for county health department Pfizer vaccinations next week.

My son at 29 had his first shot about 10 days ago and his arm was very sore and I think he didn't really feel good, although he wouldn't directly admit that to me.
It’s been 15 days since I had my 2nd dose of the Pfizer COVID 19 vaccine. I am supposedly protected from the virus but I have real concerns about the Brazilian variant of this virus which is spreading quickly here in South Florida.
Travel between Brazil (and other South American countries) and Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is very heavy all year long. Many travel here to purchase clothing and other merchandise because of the lower prices here in the USA.
Whenever I am at Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, FL, you see hoards of Brazilians with large suitcases on wheels stuffed with their purchases. Every member of the family has one or two suitcases of their own. One of the security guards at the huge mall told me that over 1 million Brazilians visit the 250 store shopping center a year for the cheaper goods.
So that’s how and why that virus strain is running rampant down here.
That's what my FIL owned when he passed (different color, but had the stick shift).
I ended up driving it to California to gift to my son when he graduated HS in 2007. 140K on the odometer, and it never missed a beat in 1100 miles. Averaged 30 MPG for the trip.
Hey oldfarmer, what kind of new car are you going to buy for $1100? Oh yeh, I think you said your limit was $1000, so you can buy something with a few extras on it with the extra amount.

I remember reading somewhere that Subaru is putting it in their museum.

We are on our own to find a place and time. What is happening is people don't just quit after they get an appointment. They get another one, and another one, all in case the first one or second one, etc. doesn't pan out for some reason. Some cancel the other appointments and some do not and that time slot is wasted where someone could have used it.
Should hopefully improve soon as initial panic (and phase restrictions) ease up, the delivery sources work out the kinks, but most important, they keep ramping up supply.
Might take another month to really notice the impact, but it will happen.
It is nice. But I am partial to the generation that first turned my head through Gran Turismo.
I agree, that is really nice.....quite often older models look better than the newer version.....that is a prime example. That one should be bought and put into the Subie Museum.

Starting the second day, I felt achy in my muscles and had 2 spells of cold sweats - but that all dissipated by the third day. I had no reaction at the injection site. So the side effects were minimal in my case.
I suspect that this is just the beginning. We could start a lottery to estimate when gas will hit $4/gal (except for CA, where it's there already) and then $5.

Wow! Some good news from the IRS. They just sent me a letter stating I’m owed $1,100 from last year.
Here comes a new car.
Are you sure you didn't read that backwards and you _owe them_ $1100?
That’s what I thought at first but I read it again and yep, the IRS loves me.
In fact it was a good day all around yesterday. We went to Linden NJ where I saw that you Jersey guys got a LOT more snow than us. Got to drive some nice pick ups down and back. (Chevys ride smoother than Fords). Then we went to VT and I got a Mustang with only 4k miles. Had fun fooling with the buttons for sport+, track and drag strip modes.
At the end of the day I thought I lost my company ez pass which is a no-no. I had no hope of finding the pick up I left it in as it was re-parked somewhere in the dark 1000 car lot. Imagine how pleased I was to find that exact truck parked next to mine out in the lot.
I should have bought a lotto ticket.

oldfarmer if you want to do a paper return the forms are available in a fill in format at the IRS website.
Thanks for input on my Odyssey. Now the wife has decided to go smaller, like Rogue, Rav 4, CRV or others if someone has a suggestion. Early research shows Rogue and CRV both have CVT and 181 and 191 HP. She requires leather and white exterior with tan interior. Would appreciate suggestions.
That leaves the CRV out.
Honda tried selling white CRV's with beige interiors in 2002 and they flat did not sell. Next year they switched to black interior and they were highly popular. A few years later they tried white with beige and sales flopped again. I suppose people how live in Arizona and other hot places just don't want dark interiors.
So wife and I are (safely) spending this weekend away. It’s been well over a year since we’ve done anything.
Of course “she had nothing to wear” (closet says otherwise). She ordered a few things that were to be delivered today.
This morning date moved until tomorrow... hmm. So I called, asked for delivery today and got nowhere. Ten minutes later I received an email survey which I gave all poor remarks. About an hour later, our package is out for delivery.
Totally different story on vaccines up here, where it is being totally (mis)managed by the provincial and federal govts. The Feds are responsible for procuring the vaccines and their initial sunny forecasts of ample supplies has turned into shorted shipments and delays to other future shipments. Meanwhile the provinces are responsible for getting them into people and here they are still doing healthcare workers with no end in sight. Once they finally get that done they will do residents of long-term care homes and prisons. Finally they will start with the general public in 10-year age groups with the eldest first. In the news today was word that 18,000 doses we were supposed to receive here were diverted to the far north. Initially I was hoping to get jabbed in June, but now I might not be shot until September.
Also paid 2.59 at Costco a few days ago, roughly the same as it has been here for the past 4-5 months anyway. Maybe FL is ramping up for tourists as things reopen?
Lots of gloom and doom from partisans out there about spiking prices, haven't seen it here yet anyway.

Probably no better off here, especially as people from ID flock to WA for our better infrastructure. Huge lines, apparently orderly, but you can't just saunter into a clinic and get it. I suppose money can cut some lines, as is the case in this late stage of our economic model.
My employer is offering a $300 incentive and time off to get jabbed, and I am one of the fortunate ones in this society with decent insurance, so I am covered. Once I am eligible probably in like the fall, I will do it.

I started looking at our taxes last night unpleasantly surprised to see our $2000 per child credit dropped to $500 since they're now 17 even though our support for them didn't decrease. Should I just make the check out to you @oldfarmer50???

I don't know but I mentioned in an email that Colgate Optic White Renewal amazed my dentist.....for the first time he said I didn't really need a cleaning after 6 months...but they did it. The next day I started getting ads from Amazon for Colgate Optic White toothpaste!

I went through that. The year that the college credit ran out hurt. Then I couldn't take them as a tax deduction, also hurt. At least when they finally move out, expenses go down.

YES, yes you should. for what it’s worth I haven’t got a child tax credit in almost 20 years. I wonder, can I get a credit for paying for the kid’s car repairs?
I once got a $1600 pay out when our car insurance company demutalized. I was happy until I found out it canceled out our EIC for that year which as it turned out was also $1600.

I have no idea. I just know that an hour after I called and left poor feedback my order was “out for delivery”. It did make it today.
Well...since you asked....had another surgery Tuesday (that makes 7 surgeries on the same eye). Obviously, I’m running out of “material” to work with (surgeon’s words, not mine). So, there’s only so much that they can do.
Bad news, still have nothing I would reasonably call sight in the eye. And, it always aches.
Good news....the retina is holding (at least for the last 48 hours). Every day that goes by with it not detaching again ups the odds of it being “OK”. IF it does detach again, probably have to remove it and I’ll end up with a prosthetic eye (or find an eye donor).
Only had to stay “face down” for two days this last time. Still have to sleep “nose to floor”, but that’s only until next week.
Next up is a cornea transplant, but that’s 5-6 months down the road. Plus, don’t know if I want give up any more of a life it would take to recover.
I’m kinda getting my routine down with the way I am now and I’m OK with that. Thankful for family, GF, friends (including you guys) who have helped me on this journey.
Aren’t you glad you asked? LOL!
I'm surprised your Doctors and Insurance company haven't lemon lawed your eyeball. Sounds like you've had some issues with the Docs but none with Health Insurance?? That's good I suppose.
I got told "non-urgent" surgery might happen in May due to Covid. So they collect for 40+ years and then get 3 more months of premiums for the excuse of "COVID?"
Imagine if your Auto Insurance said you had to wait 3 months for repairs!!!! LOL!~
I'll never respect Insurance.

Lately I noticed that Amazon prices aren't what they used to be, if anyone cares. Many, if not most, times I find, for example, Walmart is less expensive and nothing extra for shipping. (Notice I didn't say Free shipping).
I find their prices to be average on most items. Some winners, some losers. Like anywhere you just need to know what to buy from them. Look up the price for a $3.00 bag of chocolate chips. They will be over $10.00. Why? I have no idea, but people must pay it.
On higher ticket items they usually just follow the masses. For example, the large subwoofer I bought was the same price everywhere for a while. One site breaks price and everyone including Amazon followed.

Could be because their costs are going up. Here in NY the Attorney General is hounding them to “do more” to protect their warehouse employees from covid. This comes as the current governor is in hot water and the AG has been rumored to be lusting for his job. I imagine sufficient campaign contributions will make everybody “safe” but that adds to the cost of doing business.
Maybe I’m too cynical.

Amazon gets you hooked with a few low prices, and then when you get used to the ease, what appears to be free delivery, the broad range of goods, reviews, ease to return if necessary, suggestions etc.........you tend to go there first. Usually their price is a fair one, sometimes it is the best, sometimes it is high. I have seen a named brand jacket cost much less if you go directly to the makers site. I saw 3 pickleballs for $22 but included shipping, sports stores have them for $12 but you pay shipping. I was ordering 12 so cheaper to get them from the store.
But overall, Amazon is easy, fair, has a great selection, and the reviews are helpful.
We used to get more groceries from amazon, but now find Wegmans is cheaper on common things.
We still get amazon deliveries almost daily though. Even if something is a LITTLE more, and we don’t need it immediately, it beats driving around, dealing with people and masks, and maybe coming up empty anyway.

Paid $259.9 for PUG at Costco this morning. Back in December, I was paying $239.9. So prices are sure going up.
I think it’s a temporary swing. Shell oil has already stated they expect demand to drop as more and more alternate fuel vehicles are hitting the streets.
@andres3 ...I pay pretty hefty premiums for health insurance, but my coverage is very good, too.
Last I looked, I’m up to $60K in surgery bills. My out of pocket, including the meds I need, have cost me about $2K. But, I’m paying $1,800/mo for premiums. And, I have compressive coverage for everything else like dental, too. So, I’m still ahead of the game.
That will change once I qualify for Medicare in the U.S.

One auto group we deliver too has a 1950 Chevy pick up in one store and a 1957 t-bird in another. One Buick place has a 1918 Buick that still runs.

Can’t be a coincidence.

Lots of gloom and doom from partisans out there about spiking prices, haven't seen it here yet anyway.
Honda dealer in the small town where my mom lives has an N600 in the showroom.
My employer is offering a $300 incentive and time off to get jabbed, and I am one of the fortunate ones in this society with decent insurance, so I am covered. Once I am eligible probably in like the fall, I will do it.

I once got a $1600 pay out when our car insurance company demutalized. I was happy until I found out it canceled out our EIC for that year which as it turned out was also $1600.

I have no idea. I just know that an hour after I called and left poor feedback my order was “out for delivery”. It did make it today.

On higher ticket items they usually just follow the masses. For example, the large subwoofer I bought was the same price everywhere for a while. One site breaks price and everyone including Amazon followed.

Maybe I’m too cynical.

We still get amazon deliveries almost daily though. Even if something is a LITTLE more, and we don’t need it immediately, it beats driving around, dealing with people and masks, and maybe coming up empty anyway.

I expect the other refineries to follow suit.
Producers and refineries can continue to bury their heads in the sand, but oil ain’t coming back as far as demand is concerned.
