We are on our second Ninja (first one was the model explained above) new one is a 12 cup. We also have a Cusinart down the shore. They make good coffee but only marginally better than a $20 Mr Coffee.
When the current Ninja dies I’m thinking of replacing it with the model @roadburner has. I’ve heard nothing but great things about them.
Using @driver100 math it’s only about a $1 a day for the first year.
I’ve got a coffee ninja. It makes a cup, travel mug, 1/2 pot, or whole pot. Every AM it’s what brews the fuel for my commute.
That’s what I have, too. Best coffee maker I have had.
We’ve gone through pretty much all the phases. Espresso machines, grinders, keurig, old fashion drip. Although I never did do the french press thing. But the Ninja has definitely stuck around the longest, and we use pre-ground starbucks off the grocery store shelf. Folgers French Roast is also very good.

I was at my coffee maker, the local UDF for coffee this morning. Fresh decaf. Ground beans sealed in a bubble pack with air pressure, most likely nitrogen to preserve the fresh ground flavor that makes coffee 200% better.
I've had fresh ground coffee dripped through the ground beans which takes several minutes. And it was great. That was a long time ago when I could drink caffeinated coffee. I understand the Technivorm attraction.
Car-related picture here. I saw an unusual grill on the Chevy Malibu sitting at the gas pumps. Of course I was seeing the reflection in the window of the store.

I had a few Senseo machines if you remember them. They actually used a pod, not a k-cup. I went through, I think, 2 of them before they started blowing up on people.
They made really good coffee. Of course I'm not a connoisseur and don't know the difference between a woody after-taste or a peppermint patty.
I got 1 or 2 more later on eBay before they got super rare and expensive. All of a sudden they seem to be more available and not so expensive.
Well...since you asked....had another surgery Tuesday (that makes 7 surgeries on the same eye). Obviously, I’m running out of “material” to work with (surgeon’s words, not mine). So, there’s only so much that they can do.
Bad news, still have nothing I would reasonably call sight in the eye. And, it always aches.
Good news....the retina is holding (at least for the last 48 hours). Every day that goes by with it not detaching again ups the odds of it being “OK”. IF it does detach again, probably have to remove it and I’ll end up with a prosthetic eye (or find an eye donor).
Only had to stay “face down” for two days this last time. Still have to sleep “nose to floor”, but that’s only until next week.
Next up is a cornea transplant, but that’s 5-6 months down the road. Plus, don’t know if I want give up any more of a life it would take to recover.
I’m kinda getting my routine down with the way I am now and I’m OK with that. Thankful for family, GF, friends (including you guys) who have helped me on this journey.

I think the original Ninja we had made a better cup than 12 cup we have now. We retired it for two reasons, one it didn’t seem to be as hot as when new. The second it really wasn’t enough coffee for three of us every morning.

@roadburner ....I looked at those coffee makers. They’re quite nice. I used to use a burr grinder for whole beans, and had a highly rated drip maker to use (can’t recall the brand).
Ashamedly, I’m inherently lazy and got tired of cleaning the coffee maker, grinding the beans, etc.
The Nespresso is a bit pricey. But, it does yield some of the best coffee I’ve ever had, and that includes the boutique coffee house coffees.
My son has one of these...less expensive than Nespresso and really good coffee. Problem is, you’re limited to the coffees they offer, and there’s only a few. But, if you find you like it, I suppose it doesn’t really matter.
GG Your positive never give up attitude must help a lot........and I think the cornea transplant or maybe some other surgery could be a possibility, hopefully soon.

Since you mentioned cleaning the coffee maker I have a good story about that. Back in the stone age when I was in the service we had a new recruit just out of boot camp assigned to mess hall duty. Well one day he took it upon himself to scrub out those big coffee makers we had. Big mistake as any sailor will tell you those coffee makers need to be seasoned so they made him make multiple batches of coffee, brew the coffee, let it sit a little then dump it out and repeat. Just to get that coating back.

I have a Bonavita. Not the build quality of a MoccaMaster, but equivalent performance. I make a 5 cup pot, every morning. First one lasted two years... I've had this one 2.5 years, and still going strong.
I get whole bean coffee from a local craft coffee roaster. I get one of their cheaper blends, and it is $12.95 for 12 ounces. Lasts about three weeks. I'm lazy, so I have them custom grind the whole bag. Haven't noticed much dropoff during the time it takes to use it.
Also, buy cheap bottled water to use, which significantly improves the flavor, over tap.
Daily $0.62 coffee $0.25 water $0.05 filter
$0.92 total for 5 cups (about three big mugs)
It's unfortunate that my wife doesn't drink coffee.. But, she acquired the Chai Latte habit about four years ago. That might be her only financial vice, so I'm good with it.
Bitcoin was at $0.05 in July of 2010 it's now pushing $45k. So a dollar invested in July 2020 would be worth around $900k today.
I read an article about folks who have millions tied up in Bitcoin, but have either lost or forgotten their password to access it.
One person actually threw their hard disk away with the information on it, and is offering a reward to anyone willing to go through the local dump and locate it.

A MoccaMaster.......I'd buy one just for the name. It sounds impressive! My step-grandaughter when she was about 18 said she loves getting Pumpkin Lattes at Starbucks (about $5 each). I thought we have a higher than average income and I can't afford $5 lattes, and would feel very guilty if I splurged to buy one......how is an 18 year old doing this?

Wishing you the best. That's a tough journey.
Ditto! And @GG, glad you remain positive and optimistic. A positive mental attitude is required to see you through this. Don't give up my brother help will soon come perhaps even in the form of divine intervention. Remember, the genesis of laser eye surgery was as the result of an auto accident, in Russia, where shattered windshield glass punctured the eye of the driver. Instead of that incident rendering him blind his eyesight instead improved to 20/20 vision. We're all praying for you.

Thanks....you guys are all wonderful. Appreciate the kindness.
Just so you guys don’t think it’s all doom and gloom, I keep “inappropriately” touching the GF and blaming it on my vision woes. She feigns to be insulted, and then chuckles. I expect that “joke” is going to get pretty old here pretty shortly, though.
Best cup of coffee I ever had was in a small Italian town just south of Rome. It was a village cafe like you’d imagine in the movies. They served pastries (in particular, divine cannolis), espresso and coffee “Americano” (diluted espresso). It reminded me of a scene from The Godfather when Michael was living in a small village in Italy.
So rich and vibrant. Haven’t had better before or since.

That game was so one-sided, and I don’t mean the actual playing.
I agree that the refs had their thumb on the scale. The odd thing is that it wasn't even needed. KC's offensive line could not have stopped a fairly determined girl scout last night. I'm a Chief's fan of course, but I don't lose any sleep when they lose. I also really like Brady. He is definitely the GOAT.
I wonder if TB12's hangover has gone away today. He is looking very pliable indeed in this scene from yesterday after too much tequila during the victory boat procession.
@venture, I’ve been meaning to ask how Mrs. Venture is doing with her COVID recovery. Mrs. j and I just got home from receiving our first Moderna shot. Hopefully in a month or two we’ll be bullet proof.

Thanks for asking, but it was my daughter. It ended up being her, her husband, and three of the four kids. (I don't know how one escaped). My daughter ended her quarantine yesterday and also got her first injection. She's having a little rough patch right now. The rest of them come off quarantine tomorrow.
Mrs. Venture was hibernating until they got the results of two of her school kids tests back. She got tested in the meantime and it came back negative.
I got my first shot Tuesday and Mrs. Venture gets her jab tomorrow. She had to cancel her previous appointment for obvious reasons.
Just a little sore at the injection site. The first one, generally isn't bad; it's the second one that may put you down for a day or two. That's telling you something "good" is going on in there.
An elementary teacher friend said he is not going to get the vaccine. I deleted what I thought about that.

Hope everything goes well with the families recovery process. Just found out Grandson #2 (16 years old) tested positive yesterday. Kids seem to come out of this pretty well so that’s a good thing.
When I got my stabbing today the pharmacist said she had no problems with her first dose but the second dose put her down for about 12 hours. Not looking forward to that. Let us know how your second does goes. I don’t think @Mike had too much of a problem with his. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how screwed up PA is with coordinating this COVID thing. If I told you how we got our doses you wouldn’t believe me.
That school teacher friend of yours needs a check-up.

We are on our own trying to get an appointment. Exactly what our Governor was complaining about before. The PCP's have washed their hands of the whole mess.
I've been stalking Mike a little to find out how it went after his second gouge. I don't remember him saying anything other than he got it.
docs are totally out of the loop on this one. state/county running it. So no wonder it all wasn't smooth! Seems to work a lot better when they just hire a competent hospital group to do it all.
There was a software update for the Ascent. For some reason the car wouldn't recognize our home network so I used my phone as a hot spot. That worked well and the update downloaded and installed in about 20 minutes.
I wasn't able to do that with the Legacy and, hopefully, the visit to the dealer last week to install an update fixed that.
There is a setting to automatically install updates, but I don't think I want to do that even if I do get the car to recognize our network. Too big brotherly I think.
Whoever it was who said we are driving around in big computers wasn't far off.

I've been stalking Mike a little to find out how it went after his second gouge. I don't remember him saying anything other than he got it.
