Vaccinations - my wife is now eligible (she works in an early childhood center), so I'm the lucky guy who gets to make her appointment. I've got a list of places that I can call; in Colorado, you're supposed to make the appointment for both shots at the same time.

    Wish me luck....

    Good luck.

Here they didn't want us to call. Online appointments only.

When we got the first shot they scheduled us for the second one. There's actually a place on the card they give you to write in the date for the second shot.

I just posted links to some pictures, but included certain ones
    that were interesting.

Search for tail of the dragon on duckduckgo.com google.com
I've concluded there are lots of crazy people in this world.

I read the State of TN reduced the speed limit to 30 on the TN portion.

I once watched a video of two sport bikes racing through the Tail of the Dragon. Both bikes kept crossing the double yellow line as the cut corners to make time. But the bike that was following them and filming these idiots was a cruiser type bike and not only was he keeping up with the two sports bike he (she?) never crossed that double yellow line.

    Skill beats ability once more.

That video of the bike hitting the Vette was a textbook example of target fixation.

@roadburner ....you’re no longer a judge? I was hoping I had an “in” if needed when I passed through the fine upstanding state of KY!

The only “in” you’ll get is you’ll be “in” the slammer if you exceed the posted speed limit and our poster buddy may just tell them you can’t see too well anymore which could get you another night in the slammer while they decide how many more charges they may impose. Might even get you for trying to seek a favor from someone you know in their judicial system. :'(

My uncle is 80 and received his first shot a couple of weeks ago; now his second shot has been postponed due to weather. He’s constantly worrying about when he’ll be able to get it- even though he rarely leaves his home or interacts with others.

Had first China Virus vaccination today. The county health department uses a convention center. They have guides telling you where to go as you enter from the garage walkway. I checked in at a table verifying my registration online ticket. Then was directed into the exposition area.

They have chairs on the large area floor more than 6 feet apart in columns. Once seated in a chair, I never moved. Someone came to verify I was there with a notepad device. I got a white sticker that I had been documented. Two injectors come down each column from the front, row by row, with one working the notepad to ID you and arrange next appointment. Other person asks questions and then injects the serum.

They had other workers roaming and I saw at least one EMS type available for problems after injection. Quite a setup. Compared to the awful cattle call type online registration they have for getting into the system...

They had workers at the parking garage end of the covered overhead walkway with wheelchairs to help people having mobility problems get to the injection floor.

My wife and I had the first shot last week. It was a real circus getting an appointment.

I had to search the internet to find a place to get it. I spent hours and hours finding two spots and it ended up that each of us had to go to different counties to get it; neither one the county we live in.

We ended up with about 5 reservations and picked the soonest ones then canceled the others so they would be available to others.

I was complaining how the state was letting it's citizens fight each other for appointments and they should be coordinating it. Now I'm not so sure.

Now they are saying that 2nd doses of the Moderna has been given out as first doses and people who got their first dose may have to wait up to 42 days to get the second one. I wonder how they miraculously came up with that number?

People now wanting to get the vaccine, as well as providers, have to go through the states web site. This is going to be good.

Be careful what you wish for??
We heard the same thing about the second dose thing on the 11 o’clock news last night.

If there is a state that has screwed up the administering of the vaccine worse than PA I haven’t heard about it.

Mrs. j and I got our first Moderna shot one week ago today but we had to go to the adjoining county to get it (about 20 miles away compared to going about 3 miles away to the same grocery store chain pharmacy which would have been way too easy) but still worth it. On the way home Mrs. j said, “I’m glad that’s over”. I reminded her that we still had to get the second shot and the state still has time to screw that up. And now they’re talking about a third shot might be needed so don’t count your chickens yet. She said, “aren’t you the same old pessimist”.

Fast forward to the news last night. She is upstairs doing something in the office but she has the TV on. I’m in the family room downstairs and she comes down and says, “did you hear what’s going on with the second shot”? I told her I head about it. She is standing there and said, “well”? Knowing full well what “well” meant I said, “what”? She said, “it must be nice to be a know-it-all”. I was halfway to the dining room table when I said, “yeah it is but I’m used to it by now. What surprises me is that after all these years you still refuse to believe me when I talk”.

I was planning something more dastardly, like parking in a handicapped spot. But, I don’t even need that anymore. I have a placard for handicapped parking because of my vision impairment, which is in and of itself, ironic!

Maybe I’ll buzz through KY with my brights on and see if I can get away with that.

Got my first Pfizer shot today at the Coral Square Mall in Coral Springs. Had a 1:00 pm appointment but got there at 12:30 and was taken right away. Out by 12:51 with an appointment card for March 11 at the same time. Very efficient.
Power still out in half the house. They replaced the GFCI circuit and that freed up the guest bath plug but the back half of the house still has no current running through. A specialist should be here in the next hour but doubt that'll help. We need to call an electrician to sort this out. Our policy only calls for "light" electrical work and naturally, this most likely won't be covered!

Likewise. Good thing it stayed upright.

Amazed at how many did not seem to be wearing seatbelts. I saw someones torso come out a side window on one of them before going back inside. Amazing amount of parts/windows being shed too. The quick exits via popped doors may have been a good thing though.

The one that burned did not look promising however judging from how the roof pancaked.

Only one MB in the carnage, right after the Beetle cabrio - just plowed straight ahead, which might suit the car.

Lots of rear engines, soft suspensions, iffy period tires - not a good recipe. I like how many cars are loaded up with junk, too - lots of campgrounds in that area, almost like people were car camping then took their lap around the 'Ring, with sometimes unfortunate results.

The other day I noticed the dishwasher was wobbly. We've had it for at least 5 years and never noticed it previously being like that.
Wife dug out the manual and I got some tools to fix it.
Turns out I had to adjust one of the front legs to raise one side of it.
Took off the kick plate and once I found a 1/4 inch socket wrench, popped it in the top of one of the legs to adjust it.
Took quite a few turns before it levelled out(used a level to check it).
Kind of strange but it seems to be fixed.

I wonder if you lost one leg of your service from outside. This happened in my Mom’s house. Only half of the breaker panel was active and no 220V appliances worked. Electric company fixed at no charge, it was a bad connection out on the pole.

Are your 220V appliances working (Range, Dryer, AC compressor).

The electric dryer may run and turn the drum because the motor is on one side of the 220 circuits, but
the heat coils are across the 220 volt lines. So it won't heat.

On our old LG there was no light and no way to know if the dishes had been done or not. We made a rule to stick a magnet on the door if you were going to run it. I have no idea what their thinking was.

    I’ve seen this happen before.

That leg may not have been sufficiently extended when the DW was originally installed. Therefore, with the normal vibration from running over the years it retracted to the point where the DW was noticeably vibrating. I suggest you check the other leg to make sure it has sufficient contact with the floor so that one doesn’t act up next. When I adjust the legs I make sure they make good contact with the floor and then I adjust the leveling leg about another 1/4 turn. That’s always worked for me.

    Just a suggestion.

My experience with dishwashers is that they are the most unreliable appliances in the house. Therefore, it’s the only appliance that I get an extended warranty for. It paid off for our Samsung that acted up and needed the main pump assembly when it was about 4 years old IIRC.

That Samsung was a replacement for a 15 month old Kenmore. When we redid the kitchen in January 2010, we got all of our appliances at Sears. When the Kenmore acted up I called the Sears national service center to see what they would do even though the DW was out of warranty. They essentially told me to go pound sand because they saw that I refused the extended warranty when I purchased it. They had a good record of the sale and even told me the day I refused the extended warranty. So, I called the Sears store where I bought it and the salesman that answered the call told me he couldn’t do anything either but he’d pass on my message to his department manager that wouldn’t be in until later that day. I figured I’d never get a call but I did. He saw my receipt for everything I bought and told me I was a good customer and didn’t want to lose me for future purchases and mostly didn’t want me to complain to friends and family about not getting good service from Sears. He gave me 100% credit including tax and delivery for my old Kenmore towards any DW they had in stock. That’s how we came by the Samsung. That’s how Sears used to do business. Maybe things like that was just another nail in the coffin and helped to put them out of business. I always had good service over the years from Sears so I never hesitated to buy anything from them. When they went out of business, other than their employee and stock holders, no one felt worse about that than I did.

Kind of strange but it seems to be fixed.

Our old one was like that when we moved in. I did the same thing. Of course it died two months later and we replaced it.

Oh and since we love DW talk, the Kitchen Aid we replaced it with is amazing. I hope it lasts more than 2.5 years unlike the GE it replaced.
My experience with dishwashers is that they are the most unreliable appliances in the house. Therefore, it’s the only appliance that I get an extended warranty for. It paid off for our Samsung that acted up and needed the main pump assembly when it was about 4 years old IIRC.

Just don't void the warranty by trying to fix it yourself....like a DIY oil change.

The other day I noticed the dishwasher was wobbly. We've had it for at least 5 years and never noticed it previously being like that.
Wife dug out the manual and I got some tools to fix it.
Turns out I had to adjust one of the front legs to raise one side of it.

    That’s because it was a Samsung. B)
He gave me 100% credit including tax and delivery for my old Kenmore towards any DW they had in stock. That’s how we came by the Samsung. That’s how Sears used to do business. Maybe things like that was just another nail in the coffin and helped to put them out of business..

So you almost put a poor Hyundai dealer out of business and you single handedly put Sears into bankruptcy. Please, don't ever buy anything I sell. :p

I had something similar happen to our service. Two wires came in from the pole. One was damaged by the power company so we were operating in half power.

More shenanigans from the old guys.

The same team that wrecked the company car wash may have destroyed a new diesel pick up. Seems one of them filled it with gas instead of diesel. Thanks to the marvels of modern computer safety systems the truck wouldn’t start, probably because the anti-knock sensor detected something was amiss. It had to be towed away.

Someone filled the tanks wrong at Wawa and my cousin did this to his then new Chevy Diesel 2500. It caused $9000 in damage even with the computer shutting it down fairly quickly. Wawa reviewed their tapes and confirmed it was their fault and paid for all it of it.

Don't they give some kind of I.Q. Test to new employees?
This could easily be a $10000 repair.
Evidently, this happens more often than anyone might think.
Why oh why, don't they make the filler tank and the nozzle on the gas and diesel pump so they don't fit into each other....even I can figure that they should do that?

Well the diesel fuel nozzle is larger than the gas one so it won't fit in the fuel door of a gas car. But the gas filler nozzle will fit in the diesel vehicle since it is smaller. The only other solution would be to make them different shapes but then they would be harder to get it in the cars filler neck and people will complain about that.

Diesel could be square or have wings on the side of it so you can't jam it into a gasser but fits a diesel.
    This is easily solvable.....................

Regarding COVID vaccines and immunity, I was reading an article online that reported that the pharmaceutical companies which produce the vaccines are researching the efficacy of either altering the vaccine to cover immunity from the latest variants (there are about 5 currently identified) or by developing a 3rd "booster" shot for those who received the first 2 vaccine shots. The current vaccines do not provide a 94% immunity standard for the variants - only for the original virus. Protection drops below 50% for some of the variants.

It would appear that this virus and its variants/mutations, are going to be around for many more months, if not years, due to the rapid mutations it is developing. Even though I have had the two shots already (last one was 3 weeks ago yesterday), I still maintain social distancing and wear a mask out of the house constantly, no matter where I go.

Went out for dinner last night to a steakhouse with a close friend of mine and the tables were spread out nicely and all the waiters and busboys/busgirls were wearing two masks for added protection. We were able to remove our masks for eating and drinking. I felt quite safe in the restaurant, as did my friend. I guess we're in this for the long haul.

As most of you know, my grandson (the 20 year old) is finishing up his sophomore year at Riverside City College and is currently hoping to transfer into a Division I school for his junior year. His arm has healed up nicely and he is training with a private coach about an hour and a half drive north of where he lives in the Coachella Valley. He drives up there three times a week. They have him pitching again - his speed is back up to 89 mph and getting stronger. California has made it almost impossible for athletes to get scholarships because everything is shut down. He finished his winter semester with a 3.8 GPA, but his chances of getting a scholarship to a division I school are slim to none due to the situation in the State of California.

I feel so bad for him - he was on his way to a great education until last March - and now everything is in "virtual" mode.

My other grandson who has Asperger's, has been home alone for all these months. The worst thing for a teenager with Asperger's is to be alone with no social stimulation. I don't see how kids in California and many, many other States that have shut down in-person education can possibly recover from this mess. As a former teacher, School Principal and Private School Headmaster, it is criminal what they are doing to kids. At least many private schools are open - so in order to maintain high standards in education, you have to send you kid to a private school at $10,000 - $20,000 a year or higher. Who has that kind of money sitting around in this pandemic?

What these kids are missing in terms of learning basics as well as interpersonal relationships will never be made up in coming years. Truly pathetic.

As I said before, that would require the diesel nozzle to be perfectly aligned with the vehicles filler neck resulting in people fiddling with the nozzle to get it to fit. This fiddling could also cause damage to the nozzle as well as the vehicles filler neck.
