One of my best friends is in the market for 2 new vehicles - one for his wife and one for himself. Both current vehicles are over 10 years old. He is interested in the Genesis GV80 SUV with the 3.5 V6 Twin Turbo for his wife and a Genesis G90 3.3 V6 Twin Turbo for himself. He is beginning his search with his wife this coming week. I strongly suggested that he makes sure his wife test drives the GV80 for at least 3-4 hours before making a final decision. The SUV weighs over 5000 pounds which is pretty heavy for a slight woman like his wife. She currently drives a Honda Pilot which is smaller than the GV80. The Genesis dealer where I bought my G90 has quite a bit of inventory on the the SUV. As for the G90 for him, inventories are very sparse in the 3.3 liter version (365 hp) throughout South Florida, so I told him if he is serious about the G90, he needs to make a decision fairly quickly in order to get one in a color combination he will be happy with.

If he gets a G90, it will be the second close friend of mine who has purchased a G90 after I got mine. Interesting!

Like I've mentioned previously, the reason the Genesis line looks more German than Asian has to do with the chief designer for Genesis who worked for German manufacturers for quite some time.

He ended up giving test rides to all of them. Not too long after that 2 of those folks bought a Genny and 2 neighbors also bought/leased a Genny. I think my SIL is now on her 4 th or 5 th Genny. In my hood a Genny is a pretty rare sighting in parking lots but when I visit my Delray Beach SIL , Genney’s are a dime a dozen in parking lots down there. But I’m sure you know that.

Yes, I know, I’m ahead of the curve on things like this. ;)

In Del Ray Beach people's eye sight ain't so good....so they buy Gennies thinking they are getting a bargain on a Bentley. :)

Vents can vent to the roof or to the side. In the house where we are now that is being reshingled the vent goes from the laundry room to directly outside, the air conditioner service Guy noticed it was full and cleaned it for us.
In Florida it would have to vent into the kitchen or the garage to the sides, and into a wall where there is another unit in the back, so it vents upward into the roof.

I like how the rear view is an unmistakable Porsche 928 homage, but the jutting tablet screen look needs to go away yesterday (and the Genesis 2 spoke steering wheel also seems like a 70s throwback to my jaded eyes).

I got a metric crapton of spam calls yesterday, several an hour for several hours. Fortunately, swipe left and gone. Nothing today (knock on wood).

New scam this morning. Phone call wakes me up, automated woman’s voice says something like, “This is Molly from Amazon. There has been a suspected fraudulent charge for $700 on your Amazon account. Press 1 to speak to a representative.”

Being half asleep I almost pressed 1 before it hit me. “Charge on my Amazon account? You can’t charge on an Amazon account!” The bad thing, I have now received about 9 or 10 of these calls over a period of about 2 hours. Exact same automated message. And I can’t block the number, as it changes every time. All showing 281 area code (local), but different number each time.

If I could reach the person responsible, I might just test the limits on justifiable homicide.

Both Luc Donckerwolke and Peter Schreyer have had a big role in Genesis design - the former worked at Bentley and the latter for Audi.

It occurs to me that I could measure the inside dimensions of the basket on this dryer, and then do the same for the new units in the store. Let me see, pi (3.1416) times the radius squared times the depth, that should do it. It's too bad they don't give any dimensions when you're online shopping, just the (supposed) cubic feet. And I say "supposed" because I strongly suspect that if you did the measuring and computing you wouldn't get the same answer.

Okay, I measured the inside of the basket on my present dryer. Approximately 27.5 inches wide by 20 inches deep. Diameter is 27.5, the radius is 13.75. Gives me +/- 6.7 cubic feet. Maybe a little less, as there are "tumblers" protruding into the basket taking up space.

Checking at homedepot.com, limiting to gas dryers no more than $900, I see a range from 6.2 cubic feet out to 7.5 cubic feet, with most running 7.0 to 7.2. And two outliers, both by Electrolux, at 8.0 cubic feet and costing $854 and $899. This is not promising.

I remember when my mother had one of those gizmos back in the 40’s till the mid 50’s when my father bought her a matched Speed Queen automatic washer/dryer set. She out lived the washer but not the dryer. The dryer quit working about 3 months after my mother died in 1997.

If I’m not mistaken that wringer washer is the gizmo that is responsible for the old saying about a woman getting one of her body parts caught in it. Am I allowed to say that in here? :s

I have been contemplating buying a new gas clothes dryer. The old one is taking longer to dry a load, and when I wash a Queen comforter, it takes more than 2 hours to dry. The first thing I need to do is check the vents, all the way up to the roof. A few years back, the top of the vent stack became clogged, and I paid a local handyman to climb up on the roof and clear it out.

But I would like to have a bigger dryer. My present unit is not large enough inside for that Queen comforter to tumble as it should. After running the dryer for an hour (max timer), the comforter is rather balled up, dry on the outside, still quite damp on the inside. Cleaning the vents is not going to help with that. The problem is that I don't know how big my present unit is, so I might think I'm buying a bigger unit when in fact I'm getting a smaller one.

I guess I need to pull the dryer out from the wall, get behind it and clean out the vent and the ducting. From there (back side) I might be able to find a model number and then learn how large this unit is.

Almost every dryer is either 27" or 29" wide. I bought a pair for my son in April, so I'm up on them.
Even the 27" wide dryers have a huge capacity. The comforter won't be an issue.

I measured mine at approximately 27.5 inches. But the comforter IS an issue. As I described previously, the comforter is not tumbling. It sort of balls up, the outside gets dry and the inside doesn't. I have to take it out, reverse it if you will, and run the dryer again. Ordinary loads, clothes, towels, bed sheets, etc, no problem. The comforter is a problem, every time.

I was watching golf on CBS - the third round of The Memorial Tournament in Ohio. Jon Rahm was unbelievable scoring an 18 hole score of 64 (8 under par) and 8 strokes ahead as the leader.

As he walked off the 18th green, he was approached by tournament officials who informed him he tested positive for COVID-19 just before teeing off this morning (had a hole in one). He was forced to withdraw from the tournament and sacrifice the 1 million + dollar winner’s purse which he was almost assured of qualifying for. What a horrible situation and predicament - he was playing the best round of golf in his young career.

Amusingly, I think the badge was copied (I mean, influenced by another brand) before he arrived, before Hyunkia had the sense to make Genesis its own brand. I know many of us said they should have launched it that way from the start, and I stand by that - it might have more cachet now.

Take the comforter to one of the big commercial dryers at a laundromat. For as often as it's going to be necessary, it shouldn't drive the purchase of new equipment.

I should have paid better attention to the discussions about washers and dryers as my electric dryer froze a bearing several hours ago. I know nothing about dryers and have even less interest in researching them as my shirts drip from a makeshift clothesline in the basement. So I called up Lowe’s where we usually get out appliances. Bad idea. Phone to the appliance rang for 10 minutes before getting switched to customer service where I was put on hold for another 20. Hung up and called Home Depot where after a little run around I got a great older guy (probably former appliance store owner put out of business by the big box) who took great care of me.

I had them take care of delivery, installation and removal of the old unit. In the old days I would have taken the truck to the store, wrestled the dryer on and off, installed all the plugs and then dragged the old one to the dump. I realized that I’d rather throw some money at stuff like that now.

EDIT: spell check took it upon itself to change the word “shirts” to something non permissible. LOL AI is taking over the world. :s

I thought artificial intelligence would have changed the nonpermissible word to something else, knowing the nonpermissible word would set off the buzzers. Maybe it's not so intelligent?

I hate the intelligent vocabulary on my Samsung that pop up from the swiped entries. Once it's guessed at and accepted a jumble of letters as the outcome for what I swiped over, it keeps using that. Someday I'll have to look up how to delete the learned words from the phone so it will start all over now that I know to check the AI chosen words before I finish any sentence.

What a setback and unbelievable bad luck. The young man must be devastated. But then again, all precautions must be taken and I hope he did not infect others in the process. He will remain in isolation until June 15. Bummer! As to losing a chance of winning the $1.674 million first prize money, that opportunity is long gone. That's the rules, and unfair as it seems, it is a social contract that he has to live with. Naomi Osaka learned that lesson the hard way when she voluntarily withdrew from French Open tennis tournament last week.

I have 3 dogs, and a dog door open to a fenced back yard. And it has been raining a lot here lately. If I remember to keep the bedroom door shut, all is good. Forget one time, wash the comforter.

    7.0-7.4 cu.ft.
The new one will probably tumble it better....there have been big improvements in washers and dryers lately.
I haven't decided on that yet, still thinking about it. I did go out and get behind the dryer, removed the duct hose and cleaned it thoroughly. And cleaned the pipe in the wall as far as I could get a vacuum cleaner hose. Ran down my handyman neighbor and had him climb up on the roof and clean out the top cap on the vent pipe, which was pretty clogged itself. Had him trim one tree back off the roof, and blow out the gutters while he was up there.

The title came in for the Pacifica, which started me thinking about getting online bids. I have resisted that impulse so far, I'm afraid it would be near impossible to replace at anything resembling a reasonable price. And no, I'm not going to lease a new Wrangler, not unless I move out of Texas. :)

Take the comforter to one of the big commercial dryers at a laundromat. For as often as it's going to be necessary, it shouldn't drive the purchase of new equipment.

I have 3 dogs, and a dog door open to a fenced back yard. And it has been raining a lot here lately. If I remember to keep the bedroom door shut, all is good. Forget one time, wash the comforter.

The only carpet is in the master bedroom, and the living room furniture (couch, easy chair) are leather and easily cleaned. But the bedroom ...
X2 on take the comforter to a commercial laundromat dryer. Much more efficience in time. Our dryer has trouble with the large, thick items. I stop it in the middle of a dry setting and shuffle the inside to the outside. Then I turn it on auto and let it run and stop with a hot tub and sit for a while still warm. That helps finish driving the moisture out. Then I throw the comforter over one of the sofas in the living rooms.

If anyone is interested in watching golf tomorrow let me recommend the US Women's Open as an alternative. Lexi Thompson shot 66 today to come from well back and take the lead heading into tomorrow. But aside from the quality of the golf being played, it is being held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco which is one of the most spectacular courses you can find. Not long but incredibly tough.

I still subscribe to Car and Driver as well as Road & Track, and as I'm a BMW CCA member I also receive Roundel monthly. Roundel will always be a favorite, but more and more I find myself preferring British car magazines. I currently subscribe to BMW CAR and Thoroughbred and Classic Cars and I like their approach; the articles tend to contain much more technical info and both magazines have a section where the editors and writers discuss the high and low points of maintaining their fleets. Yes, Motor Trend has a similar feature, but it only covers new cars. Now, if you break out in a cold sweat at the thought of raising the hood of your car these magazines are probably not for you- but if you are inclined towards technical aspects or are the DIY type you will enjoy them. If you want a similar treatment of new cars, consider CAR, EVO, and Top Gear- in that order.

I still get car and driver, road and track, and motor trend. Cheap (something like $6/year, tops $10) and I really like reading print materials. Though they did get pretty skinny last year (though RT is a big fat thing now that they went to bi-monthly. )

I've come to like the "new" R&T, although I miss the more traditional reboot that Sam Smith presided over several years ago.

This morning I believe I had a religious experience. For some reason I decided to toy with the subject of celestial navigation. My first foray was to determine whether there was a planet bigger than Jupiter. And as you might have guessed, the answer is Yes. Well, a new planet, called OGLE-2016-BLG-1190Lb, has been discovered by Nasa’s Spitzer Space Telescope – and it’s 13 times bigger than Jupiter. Wow!

Then, I wondered aloud about the night sky and I was flawed once again. The night sky is not so dark after all, as the Hubble Ultra Deep Field high resolution image shows in that small spec of dark space not visible to the naked eye there are approximately 10,000 galaxies. Man, space is vast and we are just an insignificant part of it all. And I'm so thankful that I can experience and be part of the mind bending grandeur of the universe. Peace!

Went to dinner with the wife yesterday, was a place called Tapville or something like that. When you go in you give them your credit card and they par it up with one of their cards and there is a space on your table to place the card. This allows you to make your food selection on a tablet like device which lists your choices and the current tab. A server then brings out your food. They also had a wall of tappers that you could get your own beer or wine charged by the ounce. To do this you just take the card they give you place it in the slot by the tap you want and pour. The system charges you accordingly and displays your total charge. Yeah I know what you are thinking, people were forgetting their card after pouring their drink, I found two in just my one trip to the tappers. If I had no scruples I could have drank for free, but I just took the card out and gave it to the hostess stand.

If you want a review of the place, good selection of beers, passable food, weird payment system, won't be going back.

“The young man” should have gotten a Covid-19 shot like most of the responsible people in this country did (unless he had a viable medical reason to the contrary). You want to take chances then live with the consequences. He gets no sympathy from me.

Watching the F1 race today from Azerbaijan (what an interesting-looking place!) and I am really glad I did not try to save a few bucks on the replacement tires a few months ago by getting a set of Pirellis. Two catastrophic blowouts today, including the race leader and presumptive winner. Pirelli is going to have a very bad week ahead.

That restaurant is way to mechanized for me. I guess this is what happens when you want to be progressive. Maybe the joint is owned by a millennial.

Now that you’re hooked you have to find Planet X, the supposed 10th planet (if you still think Pluto is one) out there in the Kuiper belt somewhere that’s supposed to be 10X bigger than earth.

    Get out your telescope.
