or just go to Walmart whenever they need some juice? At least the one near me now has a charge america type station in the parking lot. Though not sure I have ever actually seen an EV charging there.

If I go to the Ford site and build a Maverick, then click on Search Inventory, it shows 2 Mavericks at one dealer near me and 1 at another dealer a little farther away.

If you go to the dealers web site they show that they don't have any.

Fords website shows no hybrid models within 100 miles of me but lots of the ecoboost models. The closest dealership has 10 Mavericks listed in their inventory all ecoboost models. If I can I'll try to stop by on Saturday and look at one.

I would not trust the website on these any time soon. Very limited option for any dealer stock orders at this point, and it should be interesting to see what happens when units start coming in, and people don't take them.

When I was at the Toyota dealer last weekend and mentioned one they showed in stock (that I had put it for a price on, and could have done the "buy it now" option the day before) he said that was gone, and pretty much anything is already reserved before it really hits the website, or immediately after.

Back in 2008 I special ordered a Honda Accord EXL Navi with the 5-speed manual in white. I think it might have been the only one in the country like that.

On the driveaccord.net site that I was on at the time someone said they had found their perfect car, a super rare and really impossible to find Accord EXL navi manual—and it was being delivered to a dealer in Louisville! I had to tell them that it was my car, and that I'd already put down a deposit on it to get the order through.

So my guess is that the Mavericks in the system are likely pre-ordered ones that already have customers who have been waiting for them for months.

Volvo is planning to go leather-free by 2030.

According to the automaker, all its fully electric vehicles, starting with its new C40 Recharge, won’t have leather interiors.

Instead, Volvo will use sustainable sources, like polyester bottles, bio-attributed material from forests in Sweden and Finland, and corks recycled from wines.

Wool-blend interior options will still be available.

The company is changing its practices because of the negative environmental impacts of cattle farming, which it said includes deforestation.

Volvo’s first benchmark is in 2025, when it hopes 25% of its new car interiors will come from recycled and bio-based material.

By 2030, the automaker aims to offer only fully electric cars.

American-style bacon is cut from pork bellies, which is why the midwestern radio stations keep track of pork belly prices and futures. Canadian-style bacon (or back bacon) comes from higher up on the hog.

Isn't from higher up better than from lower down?

I think that means they are in transit. I’ve seen that too, once the dealer orders a unit it’s considered in their inventory.
I thought about them being in transit. The local dealer also sells Subaru and they always show the car and it says, IN TRANSIT. Maybe the Ford side of the dealership is different.

The other thing is maybe they were ordered, and the Ford website shows them going to the dealer that ordered them, but the dealer won't show them because they are sold.

The Ford dealer near me on their web page either lists them as "in stock" or "dealer ordered" which I presume means in transit since they list the VIN and has a link to view the sticker.

Well let’s see, 10k miles a year spread over 4 cars? I should wear out long before the cars do.

I do enjoy the neck snapping torque of electric cars but the cost and travel limitations worry me. I’m also concerned with the infrastructure investments required to switch to a non fossil fuel power system, which, if you follow a green agenda to it’s logical conclusion, will be incredibly expensive to implement.

I mean, what’s the point of having electric cars powered by coal?

This brings me back to a question I asked before. If, when you need a charge and someone parks their gasser in the last spot, what is the etiquette or law regarding such behavior?

The last 18 months have taught us that new cars will sell at a lot higher price than normal, if that's all that is available. Resale value on a 15-20 year old ICE won't be much of a factor, I don't think. A car that old isn't worth much, anyway.

That seems to be a useless virtue signal to me. Cows are still going to be slaughtered for meat and some will die from disease or old age. Those hides will just eventually be dumped in a landfill.

That green signaling can sometimes backfire. I remember when Toyota had problems with the bio sourced wiring being eaten by mice causing very expensive harness damage. How would you like sitting in your Volvo and being bitten by a rat living in the seat?

One of the things that I have never been able to get into or understand is the hipster craze in recent years to use blocks of pork belly as the center of a main dish. The stuff is at least 50% fat and I don't care how you prepare it, you're not going to get me past that. It's one thing to slice it thinly and fry it up so it is chewy or crunchy, but the squishy slab of it in the center of my plate is not very appetizing.

I was thinking the same thing, cows aren't slaughtered just for their hides. Cattle farming won't be affected in any way from this decision. The only thing this would do is reduce price pressures on leather goods and maybe not by any perceivable metric as I would suspect that Volvo doesn't use that much leather to begin with.

BTW your rat bite comment reminded me of a time back in the 80's when I was driving home from work. Apparently I didn't see the bee on the drivers seat when I got in my car. It took a few minutes for him to get me but man that sure wasn't fun when he did.

Good point. Suburu is going after the dog lovers share of the market, Volvo is going after the vegans.

The mice ate $8000 worth of wiring in my neighbors Lexus in Florida......Lexus gave them a really good deal on a new one.......they ate every wire, Toyota used soy to be environmentally friendly.

This brings me back to a question I asked before. If, when you need a charge and someone parks their gasser in the last spot, what is the etiquette or law regarding such behavior?
Probably get to hear a long lecture about why you shouldn't park there.

    MMMMMM......Baconator:

960 calories (jog almost 2 hours to burn that off! and about 40% of what should be your daily limit.)
    Total Fat 66 g - % daily requirement 102%
    Cholesterol 155 mg..............................52%
    Sodium 1540 mg ...................................64%

If you eat a Baconator, you shouldn't eat too much else that day.

Surprisingly, as much as I like bacon I don’t want it on my hamburgers or wrapped around a steak or anything like that. I only like it at breakfast time. I guess you can say I’m almost a health nut.

If it’s done correctly it’s very good. I’ve had pork belly sliders as an app and they are wonderful.

I couldn’t do a whole plate as a main course.

I guess the plan for those that live in apartments is to WFH and take Ubers.

I think I mentioned this here before but a few years ago I was on the bike in a parking lot with a Prius right behind me. Well there was an open space right by the door so I took it. The lady in the Prius was a bit upset with me and told me that the spot was for fuel efficient vehicles only. Sure enough there was a sign that said that exact thing so I replied "I get over 65 miles to the gallon, what does your gas guzzler get?" Oh you should have seen the look on her face.

I thought of you and your bike today as I was passed by an old bike on I75 in Cincy. I had my wife get pictures. Strange tank shape for the fuel and a white circle with white star in the middle. Bike looked like something out of M*A*S*H.

We had to get the master window switch panel, also controls side view mirrors, replaced on my wife's MKC.
Driver's side window wouldn't go up or down and front passenger window wouldn't go back up if you put it down. You could raise it by using the switch on the passenger door.
Still under extended warranty, so $100plus tax to fix.
I looked up the part and it was only $90, so basically got diagnosis and labor to replace it covered.

I have 2876 miles on the odometer and the car turns 6 months old on 9/29/21. I take the car in for its first maintenance on 9/28/21 - it’s calibrated for every 6 months or 3000 miles, due to the short driving trips I take and very few highway miles. Maintenance is free for the first 3 years which includes wiper blades, brake discs and pads, oil and filter, all fluids, to name a few. Nice benefit for new car purchasers, if you can find one for sale.

    Everything goes wrong...

Yesterday my wife's new transmitter for her two week Libre Freestyle continuous glucose monitor wouldn't work after the 1-hour startup period. I had to make a phone call to Abbott to ask for a replacement. Luckily she had one more in her 90-day shipment to use.

Today my wife got a letter from the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. I knew it had to be trouble before I opened it. Sure 'nuf: It was reminding her there were jobs available and other assistance available. It said since she had applied for and/or received unemployment in the past they were notifying her of moer help available!!!

She never applied for unemployment. ID theft?

I fished around on the website, since the letter includes no way to contact them to report fraud, and finally found a place on the ODJFS webside for fraud. Ssssssh. So someone else probably was getting the tax money we pay now and relaxing on a beach chair somewhere on unemployment money under my wife's name. I wonder if I would have received a 1099-G in January if this letter hadn't shown up.
