Ouch! Sorry to see this news Steve. At least repairs have been done and you're back home. Now you can heal up and make everyone else wait on you! Hope it gets better fast.

Been shopping receivers..... sad to say in order to get one with a good amp section you are spending $4K and up.

Denon's flagship costs 1,500 more to get the 5 year warranty which my last Denon could have used making it a necessity. The fact you have to spend $1,500 for a 2 year extension on warranty is enough to scare me away for good. That's $750/year of use to make sure you don't get an expensive heavy paper weight right after the 3-year mark.

That brings it to ROTEL's magnificent Japanese engineered masterpiece "surround amplified processor" since it doesn't have a tuner and costs $5K. ARCAM is the UK equivalent at $4k or $6K.

Yamaha has a good one but it's stuck in the "chip shortage" mode.

I think when it comes to electronics, I'm going with Japan over UK. Also, the Rotel is superior in pretty much every specification, including weight.

Receivers are like boxing; weight class matters. Until a manufacturer starts putting rocks or lead shielding in their amp, I'm going with weight being one of the most important specs when it comes to sound quality.

    You only live once.....

I have two Denon AVRs, the newest is over 12 years old. Both work very well, but note both were actually built in Japan.

I do have a Rotel RCD-855 CD player that I dearly love, still operating and sounding great after 30 years of use.

To be fair I have a Denon integrated amplifier about 12 years old probably, and it still works perfectly. Your 12 year old unit is probably just before the unreliable digital HDMI phase. It probably has HDMI, but before they made it so complicated that nothing works. My broken Denon works, it's digital circuit board doesn't. I can play analog and the amp still powers; everything digital sounds like noise and clicks and pops or nothing at all. It was made in Japan :(.

the most annoying part is that a 4 year old unit didn't have "parts" support from Denon.

I am quite bummed but will be alright. Last Wednesday I slipped on a hill on the side of our house and broke my Tibia and Fibular on my right leg. I gave the neighborhood good gossip material as I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Great care by the care givers, doctors at the hospital. I have new found respect for all they do and their dedication. I have a plate and 8 screws to repair the injury. Came home Saturday afternoon. My wife has been incredible with her love and support. It is very humbling to need help with even the most basic functions and tasks. No driving for me for around 90 days. Having to go onto FMLA for the first time. Doing better by the day but I had to hang up my dancing shoes.

Heal quickly, sda. So sorry to hear you will be out of commission for awhile. No fun when you can’t ambulate normally - I have that problem with my back pain - it’s debilitating.

    Feel better! 🤓

My insurance went from $669 to $945 for $60,000 dwelling, $30,000 personal property (replacement cost), $10,000 in additional living expenses, $300,000 liability, $5000 medical.

If I had a total loss, I could replace the interior and appliances, flooring, etc. for about $55,000. The HOA has insurance for walls, ceiling and floors, etc., if the building collapsed. I am responsible for the drywall and interior.

My Condo is about 1350 sq ft with a big terrace off the living room.

    Insurance is getting very expensive.

I have another procedure scheduled for this Thursday morning. Doctor plans to remove scar tissue and open up the foramen to allow for easier access for the steroids. I got no relief the last time (4 weeks ago). My Primary Care Physician called me and said if this procedure fails, I have to go back to the neurosurgeon for surgical intervention.

With the debilitating pain I am experiencing when walking or standing, severe damage could result to my nerves and organs if not corrected. So I am praying I get some relief. I sure don’t want to have surgery. 😩

About 25 years ago, I worked with a guy who had a marrow transplant.
He worked another 20+ years until his retirement and looked healthier after the transplant.

Remember....steel wheels, CVT, FWD, 191 hp....bare bones interior.
An excellent price for a new vehicle, but a little bit spartan for most people.
I wonder who sources Ford’s CVT. I seem to remember that the CVT used in the AWD Ford 500 was considered superior to the conventional transmission used in the FWD model.

I hate you. Same set up but 3 BR and a loft (can easily be made into a 4th BR and just over 2300 square feet. Our taxes are pushing 12K with a quarter acre plot on a small lake.

On another subject, our transition to the dominance and replacement to all electric cars. The future new Cadillacs will be all electric and other brands hope to, or will follow this trend. I think we all realize their advantages as far as maintenance and performance and less greenhouse gas emissions vs. the shortage of charging units and the environmental consequences of utilizing the non renewable energy sources to power our electrical grid and the eventual disposal of worn out batteries. So, my thoughts revolve around a logistical factor. We know that single home owners can set up charging units in their garages and utilize more public sites for charging when away from homes. But, since a large portion of our population rent apartments or reside in condos and that many of these buildings have charging units. If virtually everyone had electric vehicles in these buildings, they would need close to to a 1:1 ratio of cars to chargers in these buildings. In facilities that are where lower middle class people reside I cannot see this being viable or practical. Some of these situations would generate both conflicts and violence just to get one’s car charged. In a nutshell I cannot see us becoming “fully electric” for a very long time, if ever due to these logistics alone.

I have to agree with you. Add in the additional cost of acquiring an EV especially to modest income people who may or may not get the full benefit of tax credits and you are setting up a system where only the affluent get to own a car.

Then there’s the idea that you won’t need to generate the additional power to charge a100% electrical population. Even now the grid couldn’t charge millions of EVs. I can’t see it being feasible that we can do it with renewable sources.

There is also along ramp time. As driver noted, what about all the current gas cars? Is the government going to confiscate them and replace with a new EV? Not a chance. They will just have to linger on and slowly phase out.

The government can make selling a ICE car illegal either new or used either through a dealership or personal sales. Just simply make it so an ICE vehicles ownership cannot be transferred unless it's to be scrapped. You can keep your Canyonero as long as you like, but if you want to get rid of it, off to the junkyard.

That being said I strongly believe that we should let the market decide how this changeover goes. As of yet EV's are not practical for everyone.

I believe that a significant percentage of the population won't accept EVs until they can be charged to 90% in ten minutes or less, charging stations are as common as gas pumps, and their price is competitive with IC vehicles without government subsidies.

My son bought an EGO this year for his very small yard. Also, had to have some major items replaced on it.
    How about AWD?
I vote for getting a few goats
Nah, goats will eat everything right down to the dirt. For a nice estate lawn you want a herd of sheep. They’ll crop it close without destroying the roots.
I wish my neighbors on one side and across the street would get sheep. I think they both bought the noisiest riding mowers on the market and they like to use them on the few days we are able to have people over and sit outside or they must know when we are having dinner. :@
Have you ever smelled wet sheep? I’d rather hear the mower. :o
As a general rule I don't go around smelling sheep.
However, if it smells like a wet wool sweater, or like a wet dog....I get the picture. :p

On the subject of lawn mowers, I'm considering replacing my push Toro with a self-propelled.

Is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive better on a lawn mower? (That makes it sound automobile related!)

I use my neighbor's Lawn Boy which seems to have rear drive with the fronts somehow being turned as well, but the rear wheels are the power drivers. I have seen a few goats I'd like to have, But I think I'd prefer a 442 over a GTO (goat).

One thing I really appreciate of the 442, is that it not only was quick, but handled well too, especially in comparison to its competition.

Not the car for shy and retiring types.

I was always surprised by how many of those they sold, far more than I would have expected. But probably not surprising given the times and the kind of colors and graphics were being introduced back then.

In Olds circles there was always talk that one or two W-31 versions were actually produced, though proof of that was sketchy. The W-31 was a hopped-up OAI version of the Olds 350, and it had comparable performance numbers to a 455 although it needed (and liked to) rev much higher.

A good way to stop that is to invite them over when you are serving dinner. How much can a couple extra rib eyes cost you? Cheap at half the price.

Leno always manages to snag the unicorns. That early one must be pretty rare. What is that, a ‘64 or ‘65?

That's a '66. I watched that video a couple of weeks back and some of his statements about it are a bit off. But that example is still extremely nice.

Late 1967 I remember dad and mom bringing home a red on red 66 442 complete with red line tires. It was an auto, ac. We were still in St Pete. Dad had all three kids jump in for a ride. I remember when he jumped on it both mom and dad let out an expression of delight. Dad never cared for mom’s 63 Dynamic 88. Dad had a mechanic look the 442 over and found that it had a previous under hood fire. No sale. Mom looked great in that car. They kept the 63 until 70 when it was replaced with a 69 Olds 98, which later in 72 was replaced with a 72 Cutlass Supreme.

I bought a 1966 red GTO with Hurst 4 on the floor off the showroom floor. Just looking at it sitting there was enough to cause my body to shake. Just had to have it. I think I paid $3,200 for it which was sticker price with options. It had Tiger Paw red striped tires, black interior, and was faster than I could really handle at first.

    Magnificent vehicle!

Your dad should have asked the dealer to give him a fire sale price on it. But that’s water over the dam now. :'(

    Hope you’re feeling better today.
