Getting back to cars instead of the pandemic, how do you all feel about Tesla's seemingly authoritarian approach to customer service.

    Shameful.

Aren’t there SLAPP laws against a big company coming after individuals with few resources to defend themselves?

Some guy down the street has a last generation Lincoln Town Car for sale. Looks like this

I’ve always wanted one of those old cruisers so if the mileage was low and the price was right….

The vinyl roof might be a deal breaker though. Who thought those looked good on modern cars?

Haha. It was due for tires soon when I sold it and was thinking how I would have even gotten a WW. Those were Michelin, I don’t think they make them any longer.

Those ultra-narrow WWs were a Michelin trademark. My dad had a set on one of his cars, I forget which. I thought they looked good. I think you’re right that they are NLA.

Yep. They had them starting in the early 90s across a few product lines. XW4, Symmetry, and Energy. I think the Symmetry was the last one they produced.

I just got a text from my son. He is selling his house to get cash out of it for his sons. He has been forced to cut back on work.

It doesn’t look or sound very good. He would not be doing this unless he has been given a time frame for the progression of his cancer. I know it’s inoperable and chemo and radiation would be ineffective with stage 4 cancer except to give him a little longer to put his life and sons in order.

I am just devastated and all cried out. He refuses to talk to me until he takes care of things. I just feel helpless.

Thanks, tjc. I just spoke with my X- daughter-in-law who has been trying to help him. He is very depressed. One thing she told me was that he is starting oral chemotherapy tomorrow night before bed. He is supposed to take the pill every night at bedtime. But the chemotherapy is designed to slow the progress of the cancer, not cure it.

He has had migraines and has lost a lot of weight. I just wish there was something I could do.

@abacomike - it certainly would not hurt to get a second opinion. That opinion may not be any different but may give you a different perspective.

The gift of listening and caring is the greatest gift. You may not know what to do or say, but your presence, even if just over the phone, I’d think would be greatly appreciated if he is willing to talk. If not, maybe an encouraging email or text might open the door to an eventual conversation.

anything specific led to posting this? or just general info?

Really thinking that when my Maverick arrives (assuming it does!) I should buy it even if I hate it, just to have something in case. Or flip!

was browsing the Maverick forum and watching a dealer live stream tonight (guy in Kansas that has done a ton of orders). One poster said he got to test drive one at a dealer in AZ, and the salesperson said they were slapping a 3K ADM on it. And on the dealer video, he was talking about a Bronco order being delayed, and saying it makes sense to take what they had instead (a 2021) and order what they buyer really wanted as a 2022, and trade in when it arrived and at worst break even, but likely come out ahead (and of course, have something to drive in the meantime!)

I texted him and he texted me back. He does not want to talk with me right now - he said when he gets the house sold and he has started his chemo, he will call me. He just needs time to get hold of his life before he talks about his cancer.

I have tried, but it’s no use. He’s a very proud guy and does not like discussing his weaknesses. So, I told him when he gets himself together, I am here - just one call away.

I asked him if I could fly out there but he is insistent about my not coming out to Southern California.

Do I just wait until he is ready. Thanks for your suggestions.

Supply chain issues are rampant right now. We have seen steel increases that make the tariffs from 5 years ago seem tiny. Paint is a problem, aluminum, resins and plastics as well. I’ve even noticed that Nabisco is having trouble with production and their items are sparse on grocery store shelves.

40’ Containers that used to cost $3000 to ship are now $19000 spot rate. There is also no capacity with many retailers having hundreds or even thousands of containers that can’t get on a ship. It’s so bad Walmart (along with other retailers) chartered whole vessels.

From what I see along with my wife who runs an international logistics department for a large retailer this won’t end anytime in 2022.

    Thanks for the update. ++

    But...bummer.

I wonder now when and if vehicle production will get back to what it was. Tesla's Musk has said that he envisions the chip shortage ending in 2022, but he didn't say when in 2022.

An exec from Toyota says production in October should bounce up a bit from the collapse in Sept, and that November would be a bit better than that, but with the pent up demand it doesn't seem likely that we'll get close to catching up any time soon.

On the one hand it seems like it would be a good idea to respect his wishes.

On the other hand the window for seeing your son seems to be slowly closing.

    Hang in there.

Is there a way you could maybe visit another relative out there for a few days, putting yourself up in a hotel, and then seeing if when you're close he'd be up for a visit? Just a thought.

Are you able to make the long flight with your back issues? I don’t think that would work out very well.

I’d respect his wishes and talk/text/FaceTime when he is ready.

The second grandson is 17 but he has Asperger’s syndrome. His performance IQ is 145 but his verbal IQ is 91. He suffers from an inability to process social clues and social interactions. He does well in school but is, at times, socially distant and exhibits inappropriate responses which is what Asperger’s is all about.

My X-DIL told me he is not able to process or comprehend what is happening to his father - it will take time and patience for him to understand and comprehend what’s wrong.

As far as face-time is concerned, my son is only communicating via texting at this point. He is not ready for a verbal discussion at this point in time. I told him not to worry about the Boys - I will see to it that they are well taken care of to the best of my ability.

My hands are tied at this point without being able to speak with him and to provide verbal fatherly support face-to-face, or just hearing his voice. I am anxiously awaiting the time when he feels strong enough to talk with me He is presenting the same behaviors with his friends and family.

Or pretty stupid. Why not call animal control who knows how to deal with these animals and let the professionals take care of it? I’m surprised that he didn’t get a hand taken off after he stood the trash can up.

There is a longer video that shows him taking it down by water and dumping the trash can on its side. Then he goes back and gets the trash can.

I have seen more iguanas (green iguanas) this year down here in southern Florida than any of the last 20 years I have lived here. They are pretty big and healthy looking, about 3 feet in length from nose to tail. They startle me as they run across the sidewalk in front of me.

When we get some really cold weather in January, they fall out of the trees at night and animal control scoops them up before the morning temps go above 45-50 degrees. So I guess I will have to wait until them for the population to decrease as they are released into the Everglades.
