I can't believe none of you lot came up with the definitive solution for the question about the light fixture on the garage ceiling being too high up for a ladder to reach. Clearly, any garage with a ceiling that high requires a lift.

OK I'll try this again. I am doing some work in the basement. It's putting up some shelving for storage. When they built the house they put in those wire closet organization stuff which we pulled out and replaced with nicer stuff. We kept the wire stuff (used some of it in the garage) and are using the rest now to better organize storage space in the basement.

So basically I just need to get clips for 4 short shelves to support the back of the shelves. Just need 2 for each shelf so I need 8. I go to Home Depot to get them and found the package of the clips.

She'll be missed. Her Cadillac has been preserved in a museum.
AT least we have many, many videos of Mary Tyler Moore and the Golden
Girls, preserved by which to remember her.

swing by snake. I have a whole box of that closetmaid parts stuff. And a bunch of shelving. For the same reason. I bought some to put up, and later took a lot out and replaced it with fancier stuff.

Why would they ever package them as 7's? Don't shelves usually have 4 corners?
Maybe you can use 3 on one shelf, and kind of balance it in place, or hold it with duct tape.

Think about it; by packaging them in quantities of 7, they pretty much insure that buyers will have to buy 2 packages. Not exactly a consumer friendly company but they’re not in business to be friendly, they’re in business to make money.

those are the clips that go along the top. there are no "corners", just a straight run of shelving that you put a clip on every so often (12-18" I think). so how many you need depends on the length of shelving you are putting up.

But 7 does seem like a strange number to use. either it makes sense based on typical closet lengths, or they used to have 8 and cut back by 1 to save money!

Most likely they already use that package size for other items and wanted to stay consistent.

All good reasons for packaging in 7s. On EBay you can buy 7 for $3.99, or buy 7X4=28 for $6.50 + $4.80 shipping.
Tricks of the trade these days. Manufacturers try to keep the price the same, but they are cutting down the size of the package or the weight so you don't notice. Dial soap became more concave - hardly noticeable. My can of Edge fits in the drawer easier, I can't confirm it but I am sure it is smaller.

We were on the couch drinking Veuve Clicquot and knoshing on shrimp, crackers and stinky cheese to show the GF I had class. Then again, I also made her watch my traditional NATIONAL LAMPOON’s VAN WILDER movie at the same time.

All-in-all, pretty quite night for us, though.

Plenty of party invites…especially given the previous years’ shutdown. We just found it more alluring to stay home.

Headed out shortly to Paul Brown Stadium to watch the Chiefs vs BENGALS showdown. Should be fun, but colder today that it’s been since the NFL season started. At least they aren’t predicting any rain or snow.

University of Cincinnati got whipped in the Cotton Bowl, but Ohio State won. BENGALS pull out a win, and it’s 2 out of 3. I’ll take that.

I was hoping for UC to win. I'm usually for the dark horse and I
heard about their great season on WLW throughout this college season.

The OSU Rose Bowl game was a 4th quarter game. I don't recall this much drama
in just a few minutes at the end of the 4th quarter from them. They played it well
and deserve the credit playing without 4 of their turncoats who bowed out for
    the NFL.

    Enjoy that game today!

If we do go out for New Years it is usually for an early dinner and in the old days, possibly a movie. We refuse all party invitations. Restaurants overcharge and have the worst food possible on New Years. Going out at night has lost it's appeal, lots of careless drivers and more DUI drivers than usual. Everything is busy and noisy. Around here they light really loud fireworks...must be called Canon Crackers! And the Sheriff has to warn people not to shoot their guns into the air because bullets come down somewhere. Usually someone gets hit and one year a kid was killed by this. I am much happier just staying home.

The best college programs have a lot of depth. Top 2 receivers for Ohio State don't play, 2 other guys step up huge(I think 3 touchdowns each).
ND was without their top running back and lost because they had no running game.

We usually do an early dinner on New Years and then go home as I don't want to be on the roads to late in the evening. The place we went to is one of our favorites but it was our last time there as they are closing next weekend.

When I did reenacting the group would sometimes have a New Years party and we would start shooting in the air at midnight (including cannon fire which looks awesome at night) but we would be loaded with blanks so nothing to come down. Also we would usually be in a remote rural area, so we weren't bothering anyone.

    Say what? What don't I have a choice of doing in Montreal O-F. ? Having a gun to fire off? You couldn't shoot a gun off legally anywhere in Canada on New Years unless you were maybe hunting. Talking about aiming a gun at Cuba;

The famous Southernmost Point landmark in Key West, Fla. — a colorful, giant buoy that reads “90 miles to Cuba” — suffered extensive damage early Saturday after vandals placed a discarded Christmas tree in front of it and set it on fire, police said.
If it’s determined that the amount of damage to the buoy exceeds $1,000, then the criminal mischief offense would be considered a third-degree felony in Florida and punishable by up to five years imprisonment as well as a fine up to $5,000, according to state attorneys. Total damage of less than $1,000 could also mean potential jail time and fines, state law says

It is probably acknowledged as the most Southern point, but:
At 18 degrees 55 minutes north, Ka Lae on the Big Island of Hawaii is the southernmost point in the US. Take Hawaii away however, and Florida is left as the southernmost point. A buoy on the island of Key West, Florida, at 24 degrees 32 minutes north, marks the place.

    The lie might be:
Although painted like a buoy, the monument is actually a very heavy piece of concrete storm drain
They kept putting up a sign to mark the place but it kept getting stolen, this is more permanent, unless some moron sets fire to it.

You won’t be shooting anything off in Montreal because you are under curfew. The choice I was referring to was if you wanted to go out on New Year or not. You can’t.

Isn't that landmark a lie? It's not the southernmost point.

Actually Ballast Key (a small private island west of Key West) is further south than Key West and therefor the southern most place in the Continental U.S.

And up in Minnesota you have it's northern counterpart

Don’t you have to drive through Canada to get there?
If you are driving yes but it is connected to the rest of the country by water so by boat or air you don't have to pass through Canada.

@roadburner ….thought about you this a.m. when I read in the news one of the TV production companies is resurrecting one of my favorite sitcoms…..”NIGHT COURT”.

I saw that! I mentioned this a few years ago, but Night Court made its debut in 1984- two years before I became a judge at the age of 29. It wasn't long before I realized that the show was a stunningly accurate depiction of courts of limited jurisdiction- AKA "The Trenches"-just like the one I practiced in. At one point or another I dealt with the same type of characters Judge Stone worked with- a womanizing prosecutor, a cynical chain-smoking bailiff, a couple of idealistic public defenders and a steady stream of bizarre and/or hilarious defendants, plaintiffs, and prosecuting witnesses.

You won’t be shooting anything off in Montreal because you are under curfew. The choice I was referring to was if you wanted to go out on New Year or not. You can’t.

Yes, I get it. Well, it's a choice that doesn't bother me not to have....I am fine with staying home. I'd be upset if they made me go out to celebrate.

I say the worst food/service is on Mother’s Day. We haven’t done the Mother’s Day thing for so long I can’t tell you when we last did that.

The Thursday before Mother’s Day in 2021 we went out to one of our favorite restaurants not even thinking about Mother’s Day being on Sunday. The place was packed. I asked our service guy if they were giving something away and he said, “these are the people who don’t want to put up with the Mother’s Day crowd on Sunday but in here we’ve been busy on Thursday’s like this for a few years now”. I guess to be safe we’re going to have to start going to that place on Tuesday’s from now on. :@

I caught the end of that game on Red Zone after the big Eagle’s win! What a crazy ending! Still can’t believe how many plays were run at the goal line.

Crazy game. It was probably one of the most electrifying performances I’ve seen in person for ANY football game. Paul Brown Stadium was rocking. Went from talking about leaving early, to staying well after the game was over to see/listen to the interviews down on the field (they actually let us stragglers get right up to the railing on field level). We kept telling each other…”let’s stay for one more series”. Before we knew it, Burrow was heaving bombs to Chase picking up 1st downs on 3rd and 27. And, we were tied. Can’t leave with that happening.

When I got home, I watched the highlights. It was even more amazing to watch on TV.

We headed to THE BANKS after the game. Nothing happened untoward. Just people having a good time celebrating. It was a fun time.

Good for the players. Good for the franchise. Good for the long suffering fans.

Interestingly, we ubered there and back. Getting an Uber to take us to the stadium was harder than getting one back home. I had 3 Ubers cancel on us taking us to the stadium. I had one meet us within 5 minutes of me hailing one on my phone when we were ready to go home.

I use Lyft and had the same thing happen to me, kind of. The first guy baled after like 5 minutes but another driver picked it up and all went well after that. Down here, most drivers work for both company's it seems as it probably increases their odds of making a decent payday. Sometimes, it's just easier to use one of these services then asking a friend or a neighbor. Much better and reliable then a taxi service and probably a bit cheaper to. I know we used Lyft exclusively when we were in Chicago back in 2017 for our son's wedding. Renting & paying the $25 daily charge at the hotel would've been super expensive and since there were 5 of us, and one who's a bit large, using Lyft was so much easier getting to all the wedding activities. We usually got a minivan or an Expedition type vehicle which worked out just fine. Plenty of room for us all & a relaxing ride since we don't know Chicago at all. We spent most of our time in the Lincoln Park area and stayed in the River North area.
Definitely want to go back and see all the things we didn't get to. Now that the kids bought a house in the NW section, should be a bit more fun & relaxing as we'll have our own suite in their refinished basement.

2 craziest things in the NFL yesterday, besides Bengals/Chiefs game. Antonio Brown quitting the the middle of the game and a Jaguars D lineman, after being flagged for a roughing the passer penalty, seeking out an official to shake his hand.

Brown quitting wasn't that crazy given his history. Dude obviously not going to be satisfied until he can never get a job in football again.

His NFL career is over. Shame….he is/was a talented dude. Saw he was quoting rap songs this a.m.. I think he needs to separate himself from his entourage/hangers-on, too!

Apparently, the Bucs are AB negative.

Mike Tomlin must be some kind of guy to have been able to manage him as long as he did.

Personally, when I see AB and his behavior, I see someone in crisis that is hitting a low and needs help. I hope he gets it.

I agree. It's sad. I do not see a good ending to his story unless he gets serious help.

We will be heading out to go to Maryland in a few hours. Right toward the storm. So far DC is getting it pretty good, Baltimore not bad, a little farther north, where we will be, only a dusting...so far.

I have the Subaru's ready to go. I think we will take the Legacy.
