My point is neither of them were divas - Aaron Hernandez did horrible things and is in a league of his own to some extent as far as what he did, but my point is that both of them were/are seriously sick. Just manifesting in different ways.

My wife and I took my 86 year old uncle for cataract surgery today. It was obviously Geezer Day, as it seemed most every car was piloted by an old man in hat, a blue hair, or(worst of all) a dimwit wearing a mask- even though they were the only person in the vehicle. Not only were they driving 10-15 mph below the speed limit, but when they reached a decision point, they simply stopped in the middle of the road or parking lot until their addled brain chose whether to turn or continue forward.
What fun.
Fortunately we got my uncle home in time for him to watch our Imperious Leader Andy give his 4:00 COVID update, which my uncle watches consistently.

I think I hit the 3 year interval since I last had an "incident" with either law enforcement or a horrible driver on a collision course with my vehicles. My insurance renewal tomorrow plummeted.

Knocking on wood I can keep it going! Keep the streak alive!

I go every week to my eye surgeon (Cincinnati Eye Institute). I relate. Although I’m closer in age to the patients than I am the staff, negotiating the parking lot is like driving through a maze. People stop in the middle of the driveway unsure where to go, even though they’ve been there dozens of times, as I see the same people there. Or, they’ll clog up the parking lot because they wait for a handicapped spot, because “god forbid” they have to park in a regular slot right next to or adjacent to the Handicapped spaces.

Anyways, while I’m on a rant, given I go weekly, my surgeon received the request for my medical records from Cleveland Clinic (which looks like this Spring before they can fit me in). I like this surgeon (vs the one I think really screwed up my eye). He seemed very professional about it, but did wonder what objective I was hoping for at Cleveland Clinic.

“To see again! I came into this place for a cataract surgery a year and a half ago and was told it was routine., and have since gone through multiple retinal detachments, lens replacements, etc, etc, etc.”

I wasn’t a jerk about it. Just stated facts. He said he’d send the records post haste.

I have both the handicap license plate plus the blue placard for the other vehicle in the house. I'll use it if there's a free handicapped space available, and if not, just park a bit farther away & walk. Not the kind to keep circling until a spot becomes free, as the walk won't hurt me and it's healthy. Might just take a little longer to get to the front door as I no longer can run...too painful. But glad I've got both just in case I come upon an empty handicap space. Renewed mine in October and lasts until 11/25 which is great. I'll just make sure I get both the little tag & the placard at the same time come 2025. My doctor & I feel I need it just in case I'm having a bad pain day which is happening more & more lately to my dismay. My spinal issues also affect the family as it limits what I can do. Thursdays are a bit rough after doing two work days in a row and Fridays are usually a late night so Saturday is kind of touch & go.
My wife asked me earlier why we stay home as much as we do but think she knows the answer. As I've said above, There are good days but also those bad ones and I never know which one it'll be that day. Now I feel a bit guilty but if I'm miserable & having difficulty walking, that's just the way it is...we just have to deal with it. And by throwing it on me as a guilt trip ain't really fair. Trust me, those first couple of years were awful and besides going back to work, I mostly stayed home with my feet raised to deal with the constant pain. And folks who've never had spinal issues just don't get how it takes over one's life, when it hurts just to make any kind of movement. I thought we were over this subject already but seems like she's looking to blame me for not going out much. I do try the best I can as I also want to do some fun stuff.

My sister has the handicap placard for herself because she has difficulty walking. However she won't take the last handicap spot as she wants to leave it for someone who really needs it. She will only take a handicap spot if there are several open.

Around here they are nearly always 80% empty. Maybe it's the time of day or the days I get out. . .or not.

Another one of my pet peeves (the older I get, the longer the list gets)…..parking spots for just about everyone….handicapped (which are rarely occupied by anyone who is actually handicapped). It must not be too difficult to get those placards. Hell, I’m half blind and wouldn’t dream of asking for one.

Pregnant women….seriously? I understand you gained 40 pounds in less than a year, but you can’t walk? Might help if you did.

Associate of the week/month, etc. They work there. You mean you can’t offer a parking spot to your employees in the rear of the store, where they enter and exit?

I could go on, but you get the drift.

I’m a bit salty about these “preferred” parking slot designations.

This was a few years ago, but I parked in a restaurant parking lot in a fairly tony Cincinnati Neighborhood (Hyde Park). It was a spot that had a wall in front of the parking spot. Was with a bunch of friends. We come out after dinner and my car is gone. Called the police and reported it stolen. Police arrive and look at the spot I was parked. They cleared some ivy away from the wall in front of my parking spot to reveal a “handicapped” sign. They wouldn’t issue a citation, but seemed to be aware of this little “scam”.

The sign wasn’t visible, at all. Called the tow company phone that was listed on the sign. Sure enough, they had it. Went to pay out the tow fee ($125 in cash). Only thing I could think was given the sign was covered over with ivy, they probably “hooked” several cars a week. Complained to the restaurant owner, stating they should trim back the ivy so people could see the sign. She seemed unmoved by my complaint. Went past it a couple more times to see the ivy covering the sign.

Finally, went one night with a quart of motor oil and spread it all over the ivy. Week later, ivy was dead and the sign was visible.

My wife has the placard in the car but I’d never think to use it if I was by myself. Occasionally I’ll see some young person pull into a handicapped spot, use the placard and go skipping away apparently unimpaired. You can never be sure that a person doesn’t have a legitimate need but I suspect that many are using grandma’s placard to get a better parking spot.

Those are the ones that bug me. Even older folks who pull up in something like a Corvette. What?! If you can get in and out of that, you ain't handicapped, my friend!

....and then one day I see a guy in a raised up Ford F150 pull into the handicapped spot, climb down from his truck and walk into the grocery store...he was a lot younger and could walk better than me.

A few years ago I saw a woman, at least 70 years old, limping across a grocery store parking lot and stop at a jacked up pickup. She steadied herself, got on the running board, steadied herself again, grabbed the helper handle on the A-pillar and finally got herself into the drivers seat. I could barely believe what I just saw.

The things some people will put up with just to ride up high is amazing.

As a semi-new, semi-electric car driver, my new peeve is folks parking in the EV charging spots that, of course, don't have electric(ish) vehicles! Latest was a black Dodge Charger, NJ plates and a case of Red Bull in the back seat, parked in one of the two microwave spaces at my local Stop & Shop.

Not a biggie, but another chance for me to yell at people to get off my lawn!

Got home from Maryland a little while ago. No snow. We didn't go far enough south. Some cars heading north on I-83 had snow on them.

The Legacy was a trooper again. I actually checked the gas mileage. The first time I checked a car in years. A little over 400 miles and averaged 27.8 mpg. That was driving around 77 - 78 mph when there wasn't some nitwit camping.

What really lights my fuse are the brain-dead morons who eventually figure out they are in the wrong lane and simply stop until they can get in the lane they want. I've had imbeciles stop in a through lane waiting for a space to open up in a turn lane- and vice versa.

So you were mad at a Charger parked in charging stall.

Next you will get mad at a veterinarian parking in a spot reserved for vets.

Down here in S. Florida the handicapped spaces are often filled which causes me to skip parking and I go home.

Still very limited in my ability to stand or sit for more than 5-10 minutes. I’ve lost 35 pounds so far with my goal being another 20 pounds. Losing all this weight should help increase my stamina and abilities to stand, walk and sit.

There was a lot of handicap placard abuse here until the state issued new one's with a different color/design.
I think they change it every few years now.

Given I love Acuras, the 1sr gen TL was one of my faves. Would love to get into another one. Found this, but it’s already sold. Plus, it was owned by a smoker. Not meaning to offend smokers, but I just can’t even ride in a car that is or was driven by a smoker.

That was a ratty car. They didn’t even fix the ripped up seat. Miles weren’t bad but I would not have paid $7,900 for it.

I was thinking it was a $3K…maybe $3.5K car…even after they cleaned it up. MOre than 2X that estimate.

Have always felt, you can tell a lot regarding the maintenance (or lack thereof) of a used car by looking at the condition of the interior.

Acura/Hondas (and Toyotas) can run for a very long time, even when neglected. But, that doesn’t mean you should neglect them.

Audi S4 Saga Update:

New engine installed; shop's done about 40 miles of troubleshooting because there were issues uncovered.
Low oil pressure and high oil pressure issues; with a brand new engine.

Suspect: HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) gone haywire and evil. Getting fuel into the engine to mix with the oil.

Solution: New $500 HPFP installing today and the car should be on its way to my hands this evening. Everything "else" checked out good. Assuming their diagnosis is correct of course.

Verdict: Bad Evil Rotten HPFP put fuel in the motor oil to the point over 3,500 miles (last service interval oil change) that it diluted the oil enough to cause catastrophic engine failure and destruction. Even over 40 miles they were able to monitor measurable changes in oil/fuel level and record oil pressure issues with the sensors.

When they first turned on the new engine there was so much oil and junk in the exhaust they smoked out the entire shop. Then they smoked out their adjacent street too, driving it around cleaning out the exhaust at the same time. Said they even got honked at for the smoke screen.

Like I said before, think video game Spy Hunter but black instead of white smokescreen.

Not due for a smog check for 2 more years as I had to get one when I bought it.

Thanks for letting us know what happened. Does it look like the last oil change could have set this off? I guess it could have happened after 3500 miles because of the oil change, but also for other reasons.
What a thing to go through.........that's a tough one.

It is almost like the story of this tennis racquet I ordered on EBay. Brand new and it was exactly what I was looking for. The price these days is usually $150 to $200. It was $100 including shipping. Unfortunately USPS must have put a fork lift prong right through the box. I had to return it and get a refund....what a shame.
