Anything in Puget Sound metro that sits on the market is either grossly overpriced or has some kind of unforgivable flaw. One of the most competitive markets in the nation, and has been for some time. Speaking of home improvement shows, does anyone watch "Unsellable Houses"? Sisters in the Seattle area fix up homes that have been on the market too long - the premise is that they invest their own money for the upgrades, then get it back, plus half of whatever the house sells for above the original asking price.
What I like about the hosts is that they are both diehard VW fanatics - their primary vehicle is an early 70's VW Bus, and there have been segments where they are shopping for more vintage VW's, or work with friends who own them.
There are actually houses that have been on the market too long?
That's what I did 3 months ago. Wagon lease was ending, nothing on the market I really wanted (and could afford, or even find), residual was well below retail, I bought it along with an extended warranty, and am happy.
I wonder if the old days of insane lease deals will ever return.
Here’s the thing - everyone who leased a 2 or 3 years ago is back in the market, and they need a car now. They don’t have time to defer the decision, and not every bank allows the existing lease to be extended.
They are at the mercy of short inventory and crappy programs that bump the lease payment $200-500 a month from what they currently have.
I’m very lucky I don’t have to replace the S60 right away. There is no way I’m coming anywhere near what I am paying on a new one.
Would it benefit you to buy out the lease? From what I understand you really like the car, it has low miles and you know the history of the car. It is a sweet car.
We got the insurance paperwork for putting the Mustang back on the road. My wife looked at it and said, Huh? The Lincoln is still on there. I sold it last August. Went into email and found where I emailed the agent to drop coverage and the reply where they said it was done. Forwarded that to the agent and they asked for a bill of sale which I provided. They apologized and said they applied to get the premiums refunded. All I can think of is somehow it got put back on at renewal.

Lol. I almost told the guy to top it off at $100 just because. It’s crazy. We are lucky we don’t drive much I can’t imagine the hit to the budget for someone who drives an hour or more to work.

Two related stories:
1. After I sold the Cutlass last year, I wanted to cancel the insurance and record the transfer of title. Hagerty had a very efficient process for canceling their coverage, no worries there. For the title, I went to the DMV with title document in hand and filled out with the buyer's details. They were open for walk-in, but were in COVID mode with distancing, etc, and I was greeted by a guy inside the door asking what I wanted to do. I told him and showed him the document I had filled out. No problem, he said, everything looked good, and he would make sure it got done so I didn't need to stay there and wait for a clerk. Great! Except that in November I got a renewal of annual registration notice from them, so obviously it didn't get processed. I ignored it.
2. A couple of months ago I spotted a pair of bogus charges on my BMO MasterCard. I called, and after a longish wait got to talk to someone. They were great, said they would reverse the charges, and cancel that card # and issue me a new one. A week later the new card and account arrived by mail and everything worked out fine. Except that in yesterday's mail I got another new card with the cancelled account number on it with a new 2025 expiry. That concerned me since it seemed the old number was still alive somewhere in their system. I called and the recorded voice said wait times were 2 hours. Where that is anywhere near acceptable I don't know, but I put the wait music on the speakerphone and did other things. It was actually close to 2 hours before I got to speak with someone, and when I did English was his second or third language and I didn't think he understood half of what I was telling him. After much to-ing and fro-ing he assured me the old number was indeed cancelled and that I had nothing to worry about. We shall see.

The odds that I will be having a house guest for several months beginning in a few week are 70%. It seems that my son needs some care and I have volunteered to have him stay with me here in Florida.
I suggested that he have his car shipped from California to here rather than take that cross-country trip (2300 miles) on Interstate 10, due to the high cost for gasoline, at least 3 nights in motels, food, etc. and fly here out of Palm Springs.
I’ll know for sure in a few days to a week if he’s made that decision. It’s my responsibility to make sure he is monitored and well taken care of. With my back problems, it will be difficult but I have to step in here as his father.

I emailed the White House (seriously, as I do that regularly). My suggestion is two fold. Get the price of a gal of gas down and to help with the infrastructure. Any profit the oil industry has over and above 2020 levels is taxed 50%, which would go towards fixing roads and bridges.
I don't get replies, but I think I'm onto something. It's not like they're going to be hunting for new sources of oil in the future, with EVs coming to market at a break neck pace. So, they can't use that as an excuse. There is no benefit to them to support the current prices if they have to give a large chunk back to fix our roads and bridges.
They like it when us regular folks email them. It gives them something to laugh at.
Now if you emailed them with an offer of a hefty campaign donation, I’m sure you’d get a response.

One reason I am so fond of American Express. I have never waited on hold more than 3 or 4 minutes to talk to a human, and I have never encountered anyone for whom English was obviously a 2nd or 3rd language. I know that some people have much better experiences with Mastercard or Visa than what you just related. The problem is that Mastercard and Visa are both just "umbrellas", the credit cards are issued by and handled by many, many different financial institutions. And the track record for the different financial instutions is quite varied, all over the map. Who is "BMO" anyway, I don't think I've ever encountered that name? And based on your experience, I really don't want to!

BMO was better known here as Bank of Montreal. They have been around in Canada forever. They are now global although I suspect still best-known in Canada. Apparently they are the 8th-largest bank in the world.
It used to be that you could go into a branch if you had a problem like the one I encountered and they could fix it, but in recent years their branch staff can do nothing for customers with BMO MasterCard or Visa card issues and direct you to call like I did. It's ridiculous.

Called the guy who says compressor is bad. Current Trane system is 11 yrs old so just out of warranty (of course). Estimate for new outside unit $4825 with 5 yr compressor warranty. Estimate for new Bryant system 14 SEER single speed air handler and compressor $7264 with 10 year system warranty/ 1 year labor warranty. Similar but 15.5 SEER Trane $9000
Thankfully the construction supervisor is my home watch guy who knows a better guy. Same Trane equipment for $6854. Install is Tuesday. This guy also spent two hours swapping parts on existing outdoor unit trying to salvage it and did not charge me anything
I believe American Standard use the same components as Trane but has an American Standard emblem on the case instead of Trane. We replaced our Carrier Seer 10 that was about 16 years old two years ago with an American Standard Silver Series Seer 16. We have been very pleased. Typically an American Standard is priced less than Trane.

Evidently there is a shortage of new and used Rolex's at this time for some reason. That might mean that a $14k Rolex at MSRP can only be bought used for $40k. If I win the lottery I may have to put off getting my new Rolex until they are back in stock.........

It’s a day of mourning in the old farmer household. I just found out that my go-to independent mechanic closed up shop after 34 years. That shop had been my mainstay since I was 16 and took my father’s cars there with the previous owner. Evidently he closed up a few days after my last dealing with him.
I have two other shops I occasionally use so I suppose I’ll make one of them my new mainstay. Letting go is tough. I’m afraid to say that the days of the small independent is over.

Well, things have sure softened in the past two weeks as far as house prices. We keep talking about downsizing and probably will be listing our house soon. It's probably down 200,000 from it's high BUT so are the prices of smaller places we are looking at. Either way, it's nuts!

But still no more than a few pennies per gallon to be saved at Costco, even on premium. Starting to alternate tanks of premium with whatever top tier midgrade is feasible at the moment.

About that Bentley purchase, make sure you get the one that with the correct badge. There is a knock off copy-cat out there.

I had a few cases where the defendants used skimmed credit card data to fill up fuel storage tanks which were installed on trucks. We finally caught some of the major players.

I have 5-gallon gas containers and 2.5-gallon containers. I get the max 35 gal
for up to $1 off at Kroger based on purchases during the previous month
and put that gas in my other car as well. The Malibu likes to have gas in
the tank as well. LOL
My wife used to drive the other car to the station along with me and we'd fill both cars using the discount fuel.
She can't easily do that anymore.

One of the many things in this world I don’t understand. A Rolex doesn’t do a damned thing more than a lowly $99 watch. Yeah, someone will say a $99 doesn’t do anything a $10 can’t, but I’m ballparking $99 to at least look good and be quality materials.

And folks that buy a $25k Civic or Corolla think the same thing about a $100k Escalade or Range Rover.
