when we moved I switched over to largely paperless billing. And created a new email account just used for that. So far, not spammed out. Our old ones (a joint comcast and my personal one) both have been around a long time, and are totally spammed out at this point. But, still stuff tied to them so I need to keep them around. Part of my daily ritual is cleaning out the spam folders they both have (on my hotmail I probably get 50-60 per day, with a ton of duplicates).

I've been watching a special series on Netflix called "FULL SWING" which is an 8 episode series about golf, golfers, specific personalities, LIV vs. PGA, with great interviews and great coverages of tournaments.
If you are a golf fan, golfer, etc., and follow the PGA and its telecasts, I highly recommend watching this series. The first episode concentrates on Jordan Speith and Justin Thomas and their close friendship since they played against each other in Junior and College golf. Another episode concentrates on Bruce Kepka and his rise as well as recent fall in his game. Matthew Fitzpatrick is the center of another episode and Dustin Johnson is the center of another episode with his break from the PGA Tour to LIV golf.
I have found this series to be the best presentation of where golf is today and where it is headed. Definitely a must see for every golf fan and/or golfer.
OK - so... Skynet launched its attack on People last night starting with my beloved S4.
I hear strange noises last evening (Saturday) outside and notice my headlights are on for no reason (it had been parked and locked since the night before (Friday came home from work late).
The noise sounds somewhat like the parking brake motor or the washer fluid pump. I notice suds all over the windshield cowl even though it's raining and cold and storming in San Diego too.
The headlight switch is useless in turning off the lights. Turning it off and on does nothing. Start the motor, reboot, nothing.
It's as if every accessory was being flicked on and off including all lights interior and exterior.
Turn it on, need gas, so drive down the road less than a mile to the nearest gas station and put some gas in her, on the way there and back nothing but codes and errors for every light bulb, the steering rack, the parking brake, check engine, basically everything electrically related. Headlights were pointing downward more than usual.
Can't get it to stop so I want to disengage the battery. Have to remove everything out of the trunk to do that in the S4.
Then you get to a bracket with 4 bolts. Find the decent tools to remove them, but my drill battery is almost dead. First two come out, even with my hand manual tool. The other two in the back are harder to reach, much less clearance to work in and around, and super over torqued; no dice.
Battery dead.... can't even open the trunk without releasing the kidnapped escape hatch lever from the inside. Can't even open the door without the old fashioned key, then open rear door from the inside, then push down seat back, then use tire iron to push that lever from the back seat.
Even before battery was fully dead the trunk release switch on the door nor the key FOB button would respond for trunk release.
Skynet is real. 6 seconds of holding the start button down did nothing.
I went from a UA non-believer to anything is possible with malfunctioning computers. AI is a bad idea..
Any suggestion other than sell it immediately with the clause "just has some minor electrical gremlins."

I watched that last weekend. I had not followed golf much the last few years (outside of the Masters), so it was good to get "caught up" on the game again. The episode on the two rookies was well done, in my mind.
I just finished season 5 of "Drive to Survive" on Friday - I guess there are some advantages to being laid off. Lots of focus on the spending issues by Red Bull and the craziness of "silly season", when drivers move from one team to another, or get released outright. Since the race for the championship itself was a snooze, Netflix had to find other story lines to carry the new season.
One of the (many) cuts from my old company is that they no longer sponsor the MB Petronas team - I noticed that the company logo is no longer featured on LH's or GR's helmets. I'll have to look at the Red Bull cars more closely - the company we merged with was a big sponsor of the RB team.

Another episode concentrates on Bruce Kepka and his rise as well as recent fall in his game.
This broke me up, Mike. His name is Brooks Koepka, but his personality at the time he was winning major championships led to a lot of people disliking him. As a result, on a golf forum I visit, he was derisively referred to as "Bruce" or more completely "Bruce Cupcake", which I thought was quite childish and mean, but the mob there loved to refer to him like that. Apparently it was based on some clueless announcer introducing him on the first tee at an event and absolutely mangling his name.

saw another marketplace ad today that reinforced why I don't want to buy a used car in the salt belt. 2010 GMC Terrain. Looked normal in the pictures. Selling with disclaimer that it failed inspection and could not be registered. required "rear frame welding" to be safe to drive (comments speculated that meant the subframe cradle of some kind since it is a unibody). Oh, and the rockers were all gone.
I am used to a 12 YO car just being, a car, and not having to think that the frame could be rotted to swiss cheese.
The episode on “Full Swing” (Netflix) about 37 year old Joel Dahmen was the most revealing of a golfer I’ve ever seen on TV. His wry sense of humor and the support from his family about him not winning a major and happy with his placement on leader boards every week was great sports reporting and interviewing in my opinion.
These golfers allowed Netflix to enter their personal and professional lives with cameras and audio and capture them from a unique perspective.
I know that pro athletes at the top level are insanely competitive, and winning is the goal, but it still sounds like a pretty good life making the cut every week and making a healthy chunk of change. Plus many of those guys win an occasional 2nd tier tournament when the big names aren't playing, so they get something for their trophy room!
An unusual site in these parts, a very rusted 2008ish Ford Fusion. The rockers, doors and lower fenders badly rusted. It had mismatched wheels that came from a Cadillac of some sort as the centers had Cadillac crests. I wonder where that car was rescued from a junk yard?

Golf is an extremely difficult sport! To be among the top 10 in a tournament or major is quite an achievement/accomplishment. They earn their winnings - but the costs involved in playing professional golf are humongous:
Jetting across the country with entourage
Hotels and food for the pro, the caddie, etc
Caddies are paid about 10% of winnings
Managers and publicists are paid
Personal trainers and fitness pros are paid.
It’s a tough life for 70% of professional golfers - it’s the top 30% who make the money.

But, it's important to remember that every pro golfer has some sort of endorsement deal - clubs, clothes, shoes, ball, etc. Even players with only a few years of tour experience are likely making 6 figures before they even tee up at the first tournament of the year.
AFAIK, the caddie is responsible for their own travel costs. And, the normal caddie salary is a fixed amount per week, 5% of the winnings for a regular finish, 7% for a top 10 finish and 10% if the player wins the tournament.

Car manufacturer Hyundai, and its subsidiary Kia, began rolling out a free software update on February 14, 2023, to address a flaw in their anti-theft software, which was highlighted in a social media challenge. The release of the update came nine months after an uptick in car theft of the affected models in the US. Outside the US, victims in Australia also came forward.

How long since the new engine? Maybe wires got pinched or wound up too close to a heat source or weren't secured and were rubbing ... any of these could result in an eventual problem such as this. Or, it is just doing more Audi things. Hey, what's a whole new harness at this point? Drop in the bucket.

That is why batteries should be changed after 5 or 6 years depending on where the car is parked (garage) and weather conditions etc. Once the battery is drained you can lose your codes....according to the Mercedes manual it can cost $thousands to reinstate all the codes. That battery is about 7 years old. It is one reason why we use a trickle charger when we leave the car for a few months, Mercedes says use a trickle charger if the car is being left for 6 weeks.
This post was from the Ghibli site; The problem is the electronics and other items drain anywhere from 300 to 500 milliamp hours per day (best guess). And like so many other new electronic cars, the battery can't handle the drain for more than a week. My brother mentioned his old 1980 Maserati had a similar issue, and it has much less electronics.
My friend had a Maserati and his battery died when he was away on vacation....the dealer said you have to charge it if you are away for 2 weeks......this Ghibli looks like 1 week will kill the battery.
One good thing about the 2014 C250....not a whole lot of electronics, not even a backup camera , but it still goes on a trickle charger when we leave it for a few months.
now that I freed up a garage bay, I finally dragged my beast of a snow blower out of the shed and have it at the front of the garage. have not needed it yet, but we have 2 potentially big snow events predicted this week. assuming I can figure out all the controls (I read both owners manuals today) I should be good to go.
but man it was tiring pulling that thing up the hill in the snow to get it to the garage! But at least I have a comfortable place to play with it now instead of doing it outside. and a place to plug it in so I don't have to use the pull cord (it has electric start, but no battery).
pretty fancy though. 6 speeds forward, 2 reverse, and headlights!

Why not put it in gear to get it up the hill?
Because it would have to be running in order for that to work. I just moved it manually since I still have to figure out how to use it.

The old Hyundai we are storing in my driveway has had two batteries go bad from sitting even with monthly starting. Now the owner is back on leave from the Army and is putting it back on the road. When he went to get it inspected they told him that the ECM wasn’t responding and he should drive it for 10 days until the computer could rerun all the diagnostics.
Even though the car runs fine and has no CEL I’m suspecting that disconnecting multiple batteries has fouled something up.
Maybe your dead battery caused the same thing.

I can't see the issue, but there is a lot in that link.
Just hit 90 degrees down here. It’s been so hot this past month with no end in sight. I’ve lived here for 23 years and I can’t remember a January or February where we had consistently upper 80 and lower 90 degree temps for weeks on end.
Forecast for next several weeks is for more hot weather and low humidity. Been running AC for 3 out of the last 4 weeks. I am now convinced that we are living this century in global warming!
I am on a road with 3 lanes going east, cars are going 50 to 60 mph, and I am in the left lane. I am the last car in the group of about 5. Remember, I am in the left, so a guy comes off of I-75, and he is to my right at a stop sign, and he is going to cross 3 lanes and then turn left in front of me. But as I approach he assumes I will be staying in the left lane, and he starts to move forward into the right lane and is nosing into the 2nd or middle lane. Do I trust he is going to wait or do I do a defensive maneuver? Am I supposed to be a mind reader? How could I possibly know what he is going to do? So I hit the horn which I try not to do.....especially in Florida, and I start to brake enough so I can try to stop or take evasive action just in case this moron doesn't see me or something. It actually took him longer to go as I have to slow down for the idiot........does he think I am going to trust his driving ability?
I am now convinced that we are living this century in global warming!
No, you're living in Florida.
It has been much colder than usual here over the last month and the "experts" are saying no change over the next 10 days. It's miserable.
We've been in the Tampa area for 4 months. This is the warmest winter I have experienced in 11 years. February had 25 days out of 28 that were warmer than average, and the other months were similar. Out of 120 days I have warn long pants....jeans about 8 times.
I bought some pepper spray to use in case Trixie and/or I are attacked by a wild dog either while walking or at the dog park. I see a lot of these cases on Judge Judy or Hot Bench, a little dog is attacked, a lot of pain and suffering and vet bills, a big problem proving your case. I thought I would buy another small can to take back to Canada with me. I wanted to make sure it was legal to take it across the border so I looked it up. I thought I would declare it and if it was illegal they would just take it from me. Apparently, I could go to prison immediately for trying to bring it into the country. Not only that, but if someone came up to me with a gun (in Canada) and I used pepper spray to defend myself, I'd probably get more time in prison than the guy who threatened me with the gun!

You’re correct, it is illegal to carry under the Firearms Act. If I say what I think about that legislation my comment would disappear, so I won’t say it.
However, it is apparently not illegal to sell it if you market it as dog repellant or some such thing. Many places offer it including Amazon Canada.

I'll have to look at the Red Bull cars more closely - the company we merged with was a big sponsor of the RB team.

sounds like you need a new battery? Low voltage can wreak havoc with modern car electronics. Get that first then see if it goes back to normal.
Then sell it.

Triple AAA confirmed the battery to be bad and as old as a 2016/2017 model. Of course, AAA doesn't carry Audi Batteries in their trucks. Jump start, drove it to my shop, should get them to put in a new battery on Monday and cross my fingers that resets the 50 codes triggered by a bad battery. It was able to hold some charge, the headlights remained on in the parking spot after driving it 17 or so miles.

No choice but to disconnect new battery or face drainage.
Says other symptoms seem to be resolved. Recommends new control module $$$ and that should resolve, but can't get to it till late this week at best (maybe next week) as it takes time. Asked if I wanted car back but no thank you to disconnecting battery every time I park. Keep it until resolved even though they are fully booked.
Could rain have reached the Controls Module?
Car manufacturer Hyundai, and its subsidiary Kia, began rolling out a free software update on February 14, 2023, to address a flaw in their anti-theft software, which was highlighted in a social media challenge. The release of the update came nine months after an uptick in car theft of the affected models in the US. Outside the US, victims in Australia also came forward.

That battery is about 7 years old.
It is one reason why we use a trickle charger when we leave the car for a few months, Mercedes says use a trickle charger if the car is being left for 6 weeks.
This post was from the Ghibli site;
The problem is the electronics and other items drain anywhere from 300 to 500 milliamp hours per day (best guess).
One good thing about the 2014 C250....not a whole lot of electronics, not even a backup camera

but man it was tiring pulling that thing up the hill in the snow to get it to the garage! But at least I have a comfortable place to play with it now instead of doing it outside. and a place to plug it in so I don't have to use the pull cord (it has electric start, but no battery).
pretty fancy though. 6 speeds forward, 2 reverse, and headlights!

I had the same thought wondering if there was a pinched wire or something rubbed after the engine transplant
Should have a “transport” mode on the height adjustment to get it from point a to b

Because it would have to be running in order for that to work. I just moved it manually since I still have to figure out how to use it.

I did to get a general idea. A lot of steps and no electricity back there. So easier to get it in the garage to figure out.

It's been about 14 months.
Even though the car runs fine and has no CEL I’m suspecting that disconnecting multiple batteries has fouled something up.
Maybe your dead battery caused the same thing.
