If you can believe the data on sites like Edmunds or some of the others that show pricing history there has been a downward trend but when you see a thousand dollar reduction over several months on a vehicle that was overpriced by 50% to begin with I’m not sure how much of a bargain it is.

No one said it has corrected yet… just that it is coming down 😎

Yeah, I get that. I’m just saying that lower prices at wholesale don’t immediately translate into lower retail. I’m still a firm believer that retail prices won’t substantially drop until the rental companies start selling in prepandemic numbers.

Got my insurance renewal on the bike. A big whoopee as my rates dropped $5.50/month. That's nearly a 30% reduction. B)

The Subaru went up $15/mo with the last renewal.

I'll show them! I got a crack in the windshield recently; I've got $0 deductible replacement, so I'll file a claim and get it replaced.

It has been a crummy last few weeks here with heat and humidity reminiscent of the mid-Atlantic states and lots of rain. Today was the topper though. Rainfall and thunderstorm warnings were issued and they began this afternoon. The weather radar showed a conga line of thunderclouds running along the Nova Scotia coast and they carried on for maybe 5 or 6 hours. We got about 6 inches of rain in that time and large areas of the suburbs really got nailed with flash floods. Lots of vehicles and even a couple of fire trucks got stuck in the water on flooded roads. I saw video of a city bus going though a flooded area and there was a river on the floors inside. Reports are that a mall located next to a river had 4 feet of water inside. People are/were stranded and needed water rescues. Lots of washouts and impassible areas. Fortunately my area seemed to escape damage though we did have a couple of short power outages due to the lightning. All quiet now.

I find the second half of my tank seems to go down faster than the first half - I think it is the way the gauge is made, or is it range anxiety? But, I could probably go 600 miles on a tank of gas too...........

The AAA did a study to see if speed increase and/or reductions causes or lessens the number of accidents.

    Here's the conclusion:
The news gets even worse for all the safety mavens advocating for reduced speed limits. For one thing, the mean speed on roads with lower limits actually went up, albeit a miniscule 0.4 mph. Worse yet, the only locale where then mean speed decreased significantly — minus 1.5 miles per hour — was the highway where the speed limit was reduced by 10 mph, and crash occurrences increased.

Simply put, if the study has any veracity at all, the specific speed limit of your local highway has very little influence on whether you’ll be in a car crash or not. But it will dramatically affect how generously you will fatten the pockets of your local constabulary and insurance broker. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the conclusion the AAA was looking for, but it is the one that stands out.

Here's the article, but briefly, raising or lowering the speed didn't affect the number of accidents significantly:

I have only been on the coast of New Jersey once, spent two months at a resort in Cape May. Booked a room with a queen sized bed but got stuck in a large room with 25 other guys. Their wake up service seemed to be an overkill and their maid service was sadly lacking and we had to keep the place clean ourselves. Food was OK but the restaurant was rather crowded and had a long wait. I will say that the recreation facilities were pretty good with staff that really knew how to motivate you.

My dad spent 4 years in the Navy - from '54 to '57. Was stationed in CA, with trips to Guam and Kwajelien thrown in. He was a SeaBee, and he used the carpentry skills they taught him the rest of his life.

best investment I made on this years vacation was to hire a local lawn guy to mow the lawn before I got home (he does my neighbors house every Friday). weather pushed it off until today. Since we got home late last night we went to the market this morning, and I came back to his crew just finishing up. Was so shaggy they went over it 2x to get grass mulched fully, and blew off all the pavement. I was happy to peel off some money to not have to spend all afternoon doing it myself! Well, not happy to pay but not upset about the investment!

it does not really bother me to mow. even when it is hot. Free exercise! Actually, paid to exercise, since if I did not do it, I would have to pay to have it done.

I just finished cleaning up the beach gear and putting it away, and getting the interior of the Maverick cleaned and sand removed. That was sweaty work since the sun was out. Will wait until after dinner when the sun is going down to wash the exterior!

I did about an acre and a half of field I’m reclaiming from overgrowth. My slash/burn/mow strategy is starting to show results. I use the old mower in case I hit a root or stump so I don’t break the new one. Good thing too because as I was starting on the next field with the new tractor the tire went flat way too far out for any electric lead and pump to reach. I had to take the wheel off to get some air in it.

My normal procedure would be to lift the tractor and kick a log under the frame to get the tire off. That was a lot tougher than I remember. Either John Deere made their tractors a lot heavier than other brands or I’m not as young as I thought.

Yeah, this tractor was heavier, I’m going with that. :*

glad I outsourced the mowing this weekend. I managed to get everything unpacked, cleaned and put away from the beach vacation, and got the Maverick detailed up inside and out. That, combined with the head cold my wife so kindly passed on to me, just about took me out. trying to do the lawn too might have required an ER run!

For the last couple of years I’ve paid to have my lawn mowed and hedges trimmed because of all my health problems. It’s been done by the same fellow who does my neighbor Mary’s lawn. Unfortunately he recently has been down for a few weeks with a knee replacement so I’ve had to do it myself. That involves taking some painkillers, strapping on a knee brace, and doing it slowly in stages over a couple of days because the knee and heart only allows me to go for so long. But on the positive side, I can tell that the exercise does do me some good.

Hey guys, favorite subject…our 13 plus year old Samsung dishwasher died a couple days ago. I can’t remember what brand got good ratings by you guys. I was thinking of GE but the big box guys say LG has turned their act around.

I don’t like the way you have to install a Bosch these days. They come with a cord but since my set up is for hardwiring, I’d have to mount a box with a receptacle under the sink. I know how to do that but I’d rather not. Then to hold it in place, so it doesn’t tip when you pull the door to open it, I’ll have to knock out 2 metal plugs (not removable plastic plugs like all the other makes) on the top sides to screw into the cabinets on each side since I don’t have a metal bracket gizmo under the granite top to hold it that way (so that method is definitely out). The wiring and metal plug removal is doable but I’d rather not if I don’t have to.

I’m going to look at a local mom/pop place very close to me tomorrow and ask them which brands they like. Supposedly they only carry the more reliable brands, at least that’s the way they used to do it.

I blame this on you guys for constantly talking about dishwashers. :#:#:#

We love our Bosch. Bought my son a high-end Kitchen-Aid a couple years ago, that they are very happy with.

I’d get an LG over GE, I think. GE seems to be behind the curve on washers and dishwashers.

You can't go wrong with a Bosch. In Florida we got a Maytag from Home Depot. It does a good job, and I think it mulches stuff up really good, that is their specialty...though we clean off our dishes pretty good before putting them in.
Bosch is quieter, and the design makes it easier to load properly....like a German car they know how to design things really well. It would probably be worth it even if it requires more work....you lazy......... :)

Decibels: Anything 48 or less, and it's virtually silent. Don't worry about 40 or 42 or 44, etc..

But, anything over 50 will be noticeably louder.

Love our Kitchen Aid! I would think a higher end Whirlpool would be a touch cheaper and more or less equivalent.

I have no experience with Bosch, but I do know they make a “junction box cord” that will allow you to hardwire them without adding an outlet under the sink

One thing I’ll say is… expect longer run times from the new units. The 11 year old Frigidaire at the shore runs a full cycle in 90 mins or so. The KA at home is about double that.
