I have a bunch of the Ryobi tools that take the One+ batteries. Upgraded them to lithium awhile back. They are the perfect home owner tools. Reasonably priced and get the job done.

I don’t need to pay Dewalt or Milwaukee prices for what I do.

I hear the EV protestations, but the reality is the automotive landscape is quickly changing to EVs. Infrastructure is being quickly built out. Every vehicle manufacturer I'm aware of is moving nearly all their products to EVs. Never thought I'd see one in my future. Owning a hybrid has pretty much sold me on an all EV vehicle. Being able to do the vast majority of my charging at home is another big plus. So, the rest, as they say, is history.

I just wonder how quickly it would have changed without government incentives. I really don't see EV's being there yet. For everyone I have met that drove and loves EV's I have met at least one who has driven them and wants nothing to do with them after the experience.

Out of curiosity....do you really save on maintenance with an EV. I guess all you should need are tires, brakes, wipers.....right? No oil change....what about lube?
    Anything else?
My schedule A or B can cost $500 a year!

No maintenance at all until the $30k battery replacement.😝

Speaking of replacement, a colleague of mine changed his battery at over 80,000 miles. He kept the Prius rather than replace it.

My sisters Prius needed a new battery and a replacement battery was more that the car was worth so we sold it as is.
How many miles before it needed a replacement?

It was nearing the 100K mark. They can still run without the battery but you won't get the same performance or mileage.

Well, those are imperial gallons so you have to consider King Charles’ cut. :p

For what it's worth, five imperial gallons are equal to six U.S. gallons (within 0.08%). Many people know that there are 160 fluid ounces in an imperial gallon and 128 fluid ounces in a U.S. gallon. However, the U.S. fluid oz is about 4% larger than the imperial fluid oz (29.57 ml vs. 28.41 ml).

I bought an Ego trimmer last year, and an Ego mower this year. Love them both, especially the mower. so much better than the crappy troybilt mower that needed a carb after 3 years and never ran right after. always a question if it would start, stuff like that. The Ego? Pop the battery on, and it runs. Only winterizing is putting the battery in the basement.

I have a Ryobi mower, weedeater, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, power brush, tire/air pump, hand vacuum, and orbital polisher/ Mower and weedeater are on one battery family, the rest on another. The latter I have had for several years and am on season two with the yard tools - everything still works fine, only quirk is the mower bag, which has a hole thanks to a rock.

    Ugh.. what an expensive day!

Had some family down…. So hit the grocery and liquor stores to stock up.

Then I tripped, phone went flying and shattered the back glass.

We paid for water park entrance and lunch.. and to top it off one of the kids clogged my toilet so bad I couldn’t unclog it without an auger $315 please

    Ugh.

$488 and they bought a bunch of stuff nobody ate. Some of it, we tried but didn't go back for seconds. HA HA.

Now that I have a hybrid, I am firmly in the camp of making that count for going to an EV model. Filled up the truck for the first time in ages (a whopping 8.5 gallons) which was about 400 miles. came out to 45 MPG, off of mixed driving (and just driving like a normal car).

let people who want a full EV get one, make the rest some sort of hybrid (plug in or not) and gas usage will drop like a stone, along with associated pollution. And the Driver100s of the world can drive straight through to Florida if they want.

Just got my insurance renewals from State Farm for my car and my condo. Because I use their Drive Safe feature in my car, I received a $586 discount which more than covered the increase in rates - in fact my insurance went down $100+ because of the increased discount.

The condo insurance went up $100 from last year but they raised the insurance on the condo and everything else due to inflation. So, I broke even when merging the two policies. But let's face it, auto insurance rates are getting out of sight.

Gasoline is now $399.9 a gallon for PUG at Costco as well as two Chevron gas stations in my local area. That's an increase of 50 cents a gallon in the past 3 months. I wonder how can increased Fed Reserve Rates affect the price of gasoline or insurance?

    RUG is $3.99 up here.
Don't complain, I paid $1.86 a liter for PUG which is $7 CDN per Gallon. It cost me $98 to fill my tank 80%.
$7 CDN is about $5 U.S. I think a CDN Gallon is about 10% larger, so a CDN gallon would probably cost about $4.50. That's the best I can do.
Going from liters to (US) gallons, that's $7.04 per gallon. Given the current exchange rate of $1.36CAD to $1 US, that's $5.179 per US gallon. The Marathon station down the street from me is at $4.999 for premium. I made a slight detour to Costco on Friday to get it for $4.299.

I know a person who has a Chevy Bolt EUV, about a year old. I have one neighbor with a VW ID.4 and another neighbor with a Tesla Y. All of them said they won’t go back to an ICE vehicle.

From what I’ve read, GM is bringing out $30K EVs to replace the Bolt. If their economy of scale continues, the price of entrance will be lowered even further.

I believe the biggest test will be those who buy EV Trucks and SUVs, which are the vehicles people prefer to drive in this country. If those are widely adapted, then the adaptation will be even quicker than what’s happening now.

unlike engines and transmissions, batteries don't normally fail like that.

I just heard a true story where it did fail worse than that, though more the drivers fault.
After tennis on Saturday we went to the restaurant for breakfast. I had the healthy breakfast but forgive me, I digressed.
There were 9 guys and one had a new Tesla Performance model....looks nice, monochrome flat gray it seems. I asked him how he likes it. He likes it a lot but he has had problems.
*He wanted a new Chev Equinox but he can't get one for about 6 to 8 months.
*He went online, filled out an order for a Tesla, they said he could get it in 2 weeks.
    *Basically he likes it, but he's had a few glitches;
*He said a Level 1 charger would take about 3 days to fill the car up. He bought a super charger....cost over $2000 to install in his garage.
*He was coming home at midnight from a long trip, he had 5% charge remaining. It should never get below 5%, but he didn't want to get off the highway and locate a charger station when he thought he could make it home.
*He drove extra slowly on the highway to save power, and cut out anything he didn't need.
*At midnight he was about a mile from home and the car ran out of juice.
*He went up to some houses to see if he could borrow an extension cord and get some electricity.
*One house helped but it would only charge one battery, and very slowly. One battery operates the motor, the other the controls.
*He tried to boost it with another car...I am not sure how that works, but it didn't work.
*They left the car overnight and walked home..........they called a truck the next day. A tow truck won't work, it can't be put into neutral without a battery charged up.
*I forget how they got it back...I think they charged it enough to get it into neutral and load it onto the truck.
*It still didn't work because when it had no juice and he tried to start it, it blew a transformer or something, that cost $2000 not covered by warranty.
*It is supposed to go about 300 miles on a charge, but you should only charge them up to 80%, and it can't go below 5%....that really knocks down the range.
*He said it is harder to get a charger in a large city than a smaller one. They are closer together but harder to get through driving in a big city.
*Once they showed the closest charging station was a ways away, what they didn't say was it was in a parking garage and it required $10 to enter the parking garage.

Of the 9 guys one had the Tesla, one has a Hyundai on order, the rest want to keep their ICE cars.

Personally, I just don't need all those hassles.

It shouldn't have asked for anything, but whatever....

Article author rented a Tesla in Manhattan to pick up her daughter from summer camp in VT. One charge on the way up, another on the way home (same place). Cost was about the same as an ICE vehicle rental would have been.

Truth be told I am very interested in a startup that is coming out with an electric motorcycle called Fuell. Supposedly has a 150 mile urban range (not great but not too bad for a bike) with a 30 minute recharge. Looks like a good commuter/runabout bike and you can preorder one for under $11K, when in production it should be under $15K.

As I've said before, I would be very interested in a truly high performance PHEV- think C43e or M340e. Until then I'm sticking with a purely IC car.

The Kia EV6 GT, with 576 HP, doesn't qualify?

I think he’d go along with that but he’ll probably say the dealers in his hood kills that option.

Precisely- plus, it's an EV- not a PHEV.

Just back from a week at the Delaware shore, loved it (can't get over how low property taxes and HOAs were. And, no sales tax. Hmmm...). Wife took her mother and niece, we paid for everything, can't wait for the CC bills to come in...

On "Samsung TV" found the Top Gear UK channel, when allowed I tried to watch as many episodes as I could. With 3 women in the place, it was difficult to concentrate on the "silly car show..." Well, as we know, a lot of fun, and a couple of takeaways:
    • They (well, Clarkson, at least) believe that US can't build proper cars. One episode tested the original Caddy CTS-V and Clarkson was suprised at how powerful it was and how well it handled. Would he buy one? No, everything else about it was cheap; too much $ for such cheap materials and questionable build quality. So, GM... ;)
    • They hate the Bangle era BMW styling, of course the Bangle Butt.
The X3 was a fine chariot, AC worked well, averaged overall 27-28mpg.

A guy at work has a Polestar2 and he likes the car. What he doesn’t like is the depreciation. It was something like 30% after one year and he says if he sells it before 3 years he loses his tax deduction.

    Is any of that true?

Not true for fed, but can be true for state, depending on their rules.

Is his 30% calculation from MSRP? Or from what he paid minus incentives?

Was thinking about this the other day after passing my local BMW dealer's showroom. As much grief as BMW received from the Bangle styling era, I'm pretty much appalled at the current styling trend....

I really, really like this feature of showing the individual tire pressure. A moment before I took this pic the display was showing a perfect 35 in all tires. I had just filled up the TL, checked fluids, tire pressure, washed and vacuumed it, preparing for my daughter's first day back to her senior year of
    college which is tomorrow.

My wife, SIL, and I had a nice couple of days at Virginia Beach, VA. Weather was nice, food great but expensive. What is it with Valet parking everywhere? We enjoyed seeing the light houses and surrounding area at Ft. Story. The Q5 a great traveling vehicle and got 28-30 mpg.

I’ll agree the prices have gone up, but I haven’t witnessed a quality drop. All our regular places have maintained consistency.
