My six-plus-year-old BMW is falling apart inside  . First went the door trim (small scribe separated from the door), then the passenger door handle plastic started melting, probably several months of 100-plus temperatures and UV finally got it (btw, driver's side had the same problem earlier, so it's clearly bad material). Just today I got the message that the computer lost signal from the parking sensors. Another victim of heat? I was planning to sell/trade the car in a few months for a new one (same model), but I was waiting for the market to come closer to normal, as local dealers are still acting like its; 2022, especially with such low BMW inventory, adding all kind of worthless crp to them.

All these things that failed are unessential, but combined they will add up to a decent hit against the trade value, or I'll have to pay up to fix them. It's really disappointing that an expensive car like this can't hold its interior whole for seven years. I'm now second guessing my choice for the next car, too...

That’s too bad. I’m having my own problems with falling apart vehicles. The cargo van was in for a bunch of stuff including a new O2 sensor. Everything fixed but the code came back for the sensor. Turns out the threads on the bung were messed up and now the sensor just falls out.

Now it’s at another shop having a new bung welded into the pipe so I can finally get the darn CEL to go out. The mechanic suggested that since the van is 20 years old I could just forget the repair and it would still pass inspection. Tempting but I’d rather have things fixed right. I’ve driven busted hoopties in the past but if I find a reasonably priced truck to replace this one I’d like to have it in decent enough shape to sell.

I would have gone along with the mechanic. Having something welded onto and old hunk of metal could lead to problems because the welder has to be pretty good to get it right. If you can change your mind, do it.

Again, thanks everyone for the condolences on my mom. Working with my sister to sort out the final arrangements is tough when you're 1000 miles away, and the services will be 200 miles from where my sister lives.

I've been tasked to write the first draft of the obituary, then she and I will edit it together to publish in the local paper.

Farmer, why go to paying for welding before you tried some plumbers tape and duct tape and zip ties?

OF and his bung hole woes reminded me of a different issue I encountered a month or so ago. About 5-6 years ago I had a mini-split heat pump installed which has generally worked great. But this past winter I thought I noticed it struggling to generate much heat on cold days, which was a new issue for it. A month or so ago I took a look at the install and was surprised to see the the heavy black foam insulation that surrounded the 2 copper refrigerant tubes from the pump to where they enter the house had badly deteriorated to the point where the tubes were exposed for much of their length. It was only bad on the side facing the sun so I blame UV. The foam appeared to be custom from the pump manufacturer and likely expensive. Thanks to Amazon I got some of the same type of insulation for each individual tube, then wrapped the whole thing in “freeze tape”, which is 2” wide tape made of the same type of foam with a sticky back on one side. So far so good.

Loved watching Suits, and I enjoyed LA Law, back in the day. Diana Muldaur's tragic ending on that show was one for the ages.

I got the phone call yesterday that no child wants. My mom passed away peacefully yesterday morning, after battling Alzheimers for the past few years. 85 years young. Born in NE Tennessee, and moved to CA when she was 9.

Even though my sister and I had been preparing for this day for a while, it's still a bit of a shock when it happens.

My deepest condolences. I have been there and I know it isn't easy. We are here for you.

Stove cement might be a better choice so close to the cat. The repair you suggest reminds me of some of the repairs done by customers that make it to ‘Just Rolled In’ YT videos.

BTW, my bung woes are fixed for under $150. My AC troubles too with just a system charge. My air bag light requires a $500 module replacement so that’s on hold for now since it isn’t an inspection item.

Should I run, don't walk, to my local Exotics dealership for this bargain of a lifetime?

    4 Tire Nitrogen Fill

Such a deal I have for you, for only $199.99 (66.7% of the price) I'll put 78% nitrogen into your tires including the spare. Thats 11.3% for free. And as a bonus I'll put 78% nitrogen in your cars cabin and trunk.
How much is your quality assurance/quality control device to test and ensure your nitrogen isn't deviating plus or minus 1% from that 78%?

I was thinking those used cars sitting in Phoenix for months of 120 degree heat can't be good for them.

Got a recall reminder for the Maverick today. Not a new recall, an old one that never got done (for side airbags).

of course it was for the 2022 that I sold almost 6 months ago. Pretty sure the new owner is not too worried about it. I never would have gotten it done.

That’s what I said. No one person can actually afford their own insurance. But the ocean full of policy holders can cover the costs for the insurance companies.

BY FAR…the biggest automotive safety issue today is texting/mobile phone use while driving. It’s rampant.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I see a car weaving, braking erratically, stuck at a red light/stop sign, it’s because of someone with a phone on their steering wheel or in their lap, and they’re paying more attention to it than they are driving.

I wish the local police put in ½ the effort rooting out distracted drivers as they do DUIs!

We’ve had anti-cellphone-use while driving laws up here for nearly a decade. After a blitz of enforcement when it first came into effect, it now seems almost totally ignored, just like the bicycle helmet law (which I gather is almost nonexistent in the USA).
