Reality bites: Returned to the old haunts, plugged in at my former grocery store (had Chargepoint stations well before the current EV craze). Only the first hour is free electricity, then $3/hr beyond. Well, I never.... like to pay for anything.
So, 54 minutes got me ~3/8 tank of charge.

    1 hour of charging = 3/8s of a tank?????
I wouldn't want to be driving the 1500 miles from here to Florida :s

I continue to be surprised at how many different settings you can adjust on the C43; many of them are particularly useful. I even found a setting for Geezer Mode- but Mercedes calls it "Route-Based Speed Adaptation." When cruise control is activated, it slows the car down for curves by an excessive amount. It was enabled when I bought the car, and it was the first "feature" that I deactivated.

Small world…..I had a job offer from Unisys early in my career as a technical marketing person. Thought pretty seriously about it. But, I never could put my finger on it, but something didn’t feel right about the job. So, I didn’t take it. They made another run at me a couple of years later, but I didn’t even want to interview. Thanked them and moved on.

I had two bouts of experience with them. The first was back in the ‘80s as a low-level grunt on the customer side. My boss was the recipient of much largesse on their expense account, mostly expensive, long lunches at expensive restaurants. Those around my level had no such luck but I will say that they didn’t spare the resources to help us do our jobs. Later in my career in the late ‘90s was the other experience I mentioned and I was the client lead, and we got that same lunch/dinner/drinks/travel treatment. It was something, quite different from the experience a bit earlier dealing with IBM, who were much more stiff.

It seemed to me that Unisys believed that their marketing people were supposed to mostly be genial hosts.
I often thought about how my career would have been different if I had taken that Unisys position. I was given a tour of their offices in Cincinnati at the time. It was large, but seemed to be chaotic. Don’t recall if they were overflowing with people (which is a definite possibility) as they were expanding and looked to be bursting at the seams, or it was the way they did day-to-day business, but it didn’t appeal to me.

I was knee deep with Xerox as my first real my post college job. Pretty heady times for me because if you were successful with Xerox, which I was, seemed everyone was coming after me. But, that’s true of local companies like P&G and GE, too (at the time).

Spent 10 years at Xerox, wasn’t moving up their ladder quick enough for me. So, started looking seriously at some of the offers.

Mid ‘90s and tech startups were everywhere. They were throwing lots of money around. Hooked up with one. Did well. We went public. Was acquired by a large chip/PCB conglomerate when the tech bubble burst. Was back with a big company again. But, by that time I had a wife, a kid and a mortgage. So, I had to settle in for that ride until I retired.

Now, Xerox is a sad shell of what they once were when I worked there, and the company I retired from is in a never ending knife fight with Intel.

I dunno how you folks in the USA can keep track of all those acronyms and what they offer.

You want to know how good the Canadian health care system is? A few years back, the then-Premier (I.e Governor) of Newfoundland discovered that he needed a heart bypass operation. Being an independently wealthy fellow, he got referred to one of the top surgeons in NYC and paid the 6 figure bill out of pocket.

I’ve had a Canadian guy come here for coronary artery bypass surgery (son worked at the University here) because he didn’t want to wait and had cash. He paid in full.

Canadians can do that. Some go to countries like India for knees and hips for faster service. One problem is that if you need check-ups or repairs done etc., you will have to go back to where you had the surgery done. If you have the money......anything is possible!

I worry about the same. If you have a peri-prosthesis knee replacement fracture and they don’t use the same manufacturer of implants, they would obviously need to replace one half with an implant with a stem but would also need to replace the other half because it wouldn’t mesh up correctly. What a hassle (and you have a fracture and not the best travel candidate).

Exactly. People go to India for a knee or hip. They come home and have a major problem. Normally a doctor in Canada would see you and there would be no charge. They won't see you if you had the work done in another country....could get to be a real problem.

@laurasdada - some restaurant recommendations for Sedona:

Dahl & DiLuca Ristorante - great, quiet Italian place.
Tlaquepaque (te-lak-a-pak-a) is an outdoor mall with a number of good restaurants to be found.
Cucina Rustica is in the Village of Oak Creek, about 10 minutes south of Sedona. Owned by the same folks as Dahl & DiLuca, but a different take on Italian.
Javelina Cantina is a traditional Mexican food joint, with big portions and great views.

Dahl and DiLuca is a more formal experience with steak and seafood in addition to some Italian fare, whereas Cucina Rustica is more casual, with traditional Italian dishes.

Sedona is an odd place - a lot of Old West vibe, but a pretty sizable hippie-dippie community that believes in the power of crystals and other New Agey stuff.

Thanks for the run down. I guess Sedona has vegan, gluten free, kale salads etc. Has anyone actually had a good gluten free anything? We went to a very popular gluten free bakery in town and I had a date square...that was over the top sweet from sugar and it weighed about 10 pounds. Once we went to a party with about 20 people and one or two needed gluten free food, so all the wraps and sandwiches came from a gluten free Guy who makes them. They were as dry and hard to chew as can be, needed a drink after every bite.
I mean, if you need gluten free go with it, but I wouldn't eat it by choice. Besides, we need some gluten in our diet.
....and another thing, who actually chooses to eat arugula salads....the leaves taste like weeds and are hard to pick up with fork, and are hard to get into your mouth.

Just a warning if you go to an Italian restaurant:

Woman sues Boston eatery after slipping on prosciutto
    The Hamilton Spectator15 Aug 2023
A woman who fractured her left ankle during a trip with her husband to the Italian food emporium Eataly in Boston last year is blaming her injury on a piece of ham.

Alice Cohen was heading to an area where food samples are distributed to customers on Oct. 7 when she slipped on a piece of prosciutto and fell, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in Suffolk Superior Court in Boston.

“Alice Cohen sustained bodily injuries, a loss of enjoyment of life, pain and suffering, and incurred necessary medical expenses for medical care and attention,” the lawsuit said.

Her medical expenses, including a hospital visit and physical therapy, have resulted in more than $7,500 in bills, according to court papers.

Cohen and her husband Ronald, of Gilford, N.H., are seeking a jury trial and at least $50,000 in damages.

The lawsuit claims Eataly was negligent for not properly cleaning the floor.

The lawsuit also claims loss of consortium.

Prosciutto is a type of thinly sliced, cured ham that originated in Italy.

Heavy equipment heaven around here this week. House build just up the street had a foundation pour so cement mixers going back and forth. And next neighborhood over is having all the roads redone some on day 2 of milling machine, many loaders, and a steady stream of dump trucks in and out. Road of course is a mess of milled up underlayment. Good thing I can avoid driving on that! Big project moving quickly though.

Luckily, I'm a simple sort, just as happy at fancy as simple. Probably happier at simple, actually, as I'm rather "frugal." My not-yet fully evolved mind seems to instantly do a CBA on all purchases, no matter the price. While I've probably made some poor career choices in my time, I believe my propensity to save/buy value has allowed me to go on the occasional purchasing bender (yes, of course, cars!) while hopefully securing a pauper's + level of retirement (when does that happen?).
Unfortunately, she's particular... But earns a pretty penny and is generally thrifty, too. But her CBA review is often subsumed by emotion.
Doesn't make her any less wonderful.

I was at work yesterday driving a small Mercedes (some variation on a C class) and looked down and the floor mats said “AMG”. I was amazed that would be in a rental fleet.

Well, unless this AMG was debadged completely, only the floor mats were AMG. Disappointing.

Probably the only floor mats that were available. If they were wannabe aftermarket floor mats they probably print that on there to make them look upscale.

Mercedes is like Audi and BMW in that they offer three levels of "performance"- AMG Line is equivalent to S Line or M Sport primarily a trim package although sometimes a more aggressive suspension is also included. An AMG 43 or 53 is an AMG " lite"- decently quick with suspension and brakes to match- like an Audi S or a BMW M Performance car. An AMG 63 is the Real Deal, as is an RS or M car.
That's a very simplistic explanation, but you get the idea.

That should teacher her, next time go to a Kosher restaurant.

I broke the SiriusXM habit. I tried to renew at the $60/12 mo and could never get a direct answer that No theywouldn't or Yes they would. Instead she kept offering different choices of rates. I finally took a $72/12 (plus extra fees of course), knowing I would likely cancel one car or both.

I watched how much I actually used SXM. Not much. I had CD, USB, and could add Pandora easily on Tracfone using data from my plan.

Cancelled. Now I keep seeing phone calls from SXM. They sent an email the next week offering me the higher rate at which I cancelled.
