Why would the DMV refund money you paid to the dealer? I don’t know about NJ but in NY the dealer charged me an estimated title/registration fee and later refunded me $60 which I assume was because I still had time left on the old car’s registration.

As a retired Sales Manager in a new car dealership, I can assure you that any refunds due the customer from fees charged for title, tags (plates), registrations, etc., are provided by the selling dealership, not the County or State Agency issuing the documents. It's the dealership that collects the funds necessary to register the vehicle, acquire the title, etc., thus it's the dealership that is responsible for refunding overpayments to the buyer.

Many dealerships collect a set fee for handling the registration, title, plates (tags), (which is always more than what the actual fees/costs are), and then forward the funds to an agency that handles all the paperwork. Some dealerships are licensed by the County/State to issue registrations at the point of sale and provide the new vehicle registration upon delivery of the new vehicle.

It's been a long time since I last posted (see above) on Edmunds. I do try to keep up with the posts, but sitting for more than 20 minutes at the computer is very painful to my back. I am still dealing with horrendous back pain. I have to use a walker to ambulate anywhere. I still try to get to the mall in Boca Raton to walk with my friends who have been very kind to me by walking slowly so I can keep up with them. I am in the midst of trying to arrange some procedures to deaden the nerve pain in my back, but looking for and finding the right doctor to do it can take quite some time. I miss you guys, but wanted to get online to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. To those of you who celebrate Hannukah, best wishes for your celebration of the Festival of Lights.

By the way, what do you think of my Dolphins NOW? Yeah, I know they'll make the playoffs and lose in the first round, but at least I finally have something to root for!

I doubt the dealer will make any kind of an adjustment. In most states the dealer can charge whatever they want when providing a service and they usually gouge for doing so. This is their way of adding a tip even when not providing good service.

I doubt the dealer will make any kind of an adjustment. In most states the dealer can charge whatever they want when providing a service and they usually gouge for doing so. This is their way of adding a tip even when not providing good service.

in this case they have to. This isn't the pure profit "doc fee" that dealers charge because they are doing you a big favor, handling the DMV work for you. They still charge that, whatever they feel like. But they also are required to break out the actual government charges (registration, title, tax). those are fixed numbers they can't mark up, so if they take too much they can't just keep it.

Yup. What stick said. If they want to charge more, it has to be a separate line item. It is illegal for them to overcharge (and keep) on gov fees.

I have had 2 things happen: I get a check along with the reg and plates or I get a check in the mail later.

I missed seeing posts from you on here. Glad to see a post, but sorry about the pain. My wife tried to the radiowave or thermal nerve shot when the cortisone spinal injections no longer worked to help numb the nerves in her lower back. That didn't work. She also rejected the electronic nerve stimulator placed on the lower spine that covers the nerve pain because she did not want to have it when the doctor couldn't promise a reasonably high chance of a good outcome that lasted more than a few months up to a year.

I hope you can find something to help. I believe sandman also has back pain problems.

Losing in the first round? Sounds like my Cowboys.

My brothers a big Dolphins fan. Wouldn't mind seeing them get to the Super Bowl...been awhile. I'd prefer to see the Ravens from the AFC though. Heisman trophy winner Lamar Jackson played for Louisville and has done a good job getting the Ravens to the playoffs, though hasn't been able to get them to the the AFC championship game. Ill take anyone but the Chiefs...or fading Steelers from the AFC. San Francisco looking good in NFC.

Tonight my wife and I took the C43 to Lexington to attend a book signing for Brian Kilmeade's latest book. On the way there we ran through some heavy downpours on I-64. When the rain was really heavy I slowed down to 55-60 mph. Of course, the most dangerous drivers were the terrified nitwits who turned on their emergency flashers and puttered along at 40 mph or less. If you find the conditions to be that unmanageable you need to stay off the road- period.

Years ago I worked with a woman who was charged a pretty stiff fee for filing the taxes, registration, title and plates with the state of PA for the new car she bought. They didn’t over charge for those items because they were regulated by the state and therefore couldn’t charge more than the state imposed fee but the dealer charged for performing that service which at the time was legal.

When I bought my 2015 Genny in Virginia they showed a line item for tax and a few other items that were too high and I told them about it and they said since it was a Saturday they couldn’t contact the PA DMV to get the correct amounts so they padded the charge for those items but they assured me that since the paper work clearly showed the amounts they collected they had to by law return the over charge. It wasn’t exorbitant but it was collected. If I was a crazy high number I would not have bought the car.

Just for my satisfaction I went to the AAA office near me the following Monday and asked about it. They said that kind of stuff happens a lot with some states due to not having reciprocity with PA or something like that. However, by law they have to have a check dated within 14 or 21 days (I can’t remember exactly) of the sale returning the over charge to the buyer or some kind of legal action would be filled by the state on the buyers behalf to get them their refund. I think I had the check in my hands in 8 days.

I know when I bought a couple cars in Ohio they knew exactly what all of the charges were and nothing was over charged.

I got a check unexpectedly from the philly ford dealer after getting one of my mavericks. I think the current one because they did not calculate something correctly to transfer NY tags over from my old one.

Wife and I are in the process of prepping/cooking for 25 people tomorrow. She hosts a big work event.

Just put a huge pot of gravy on for baked ziti. Sausage balls, chicken cutlets w/ broccoli rabe, ham, 23 lb prime rib and all the fixings, salad, etc

Did I make you hungry?

Oh and since I consider myself an amateur bartender… I think I have perfected the Expresso Martini that is all the rage.

1.5 oz fresh brewed expresso (must). Luke warm still
1.5 oz Stoli Vanilla Vodka
1 oz Mr Black coffee liquor
1/2 oz dark simple syrup (use sugar in the raw)

Add all contents to shaker with large (whiskey style) cube. Temper it by gently shaking so it doesn’t shatter and then shake the heck out of it for 30 seconds

Strain into a chilled martini glass. It should be nice and foamy. If you want to be bouchée add three whole coffee beans.

I figure we talk about applicances we may as well talk about food and drink!

That is really cool.
Question though, since the some treads are at 8 and some are 2 wouldn't that indicate something is off? Or does it mean you are making way more right or left turns? And, what good is an 8 if the side is at 2? And, there is a stone chip stuck in your tread.

$200 would have killed the deal for me on the Genny. There is no reason to be that far off as far as I’m concerned. I think I was over charged something like $60/70 on the Genny.

The snowflake shows up when the outside temp drops to 37 or lower.

A is the "A" trip odometer - I can flip between A and B if I so choose. I use A to record mileage for each tank of gas, and B is reset every time I have the tires rotated.

I hear that real bartenders hate making those, particularly if the bar is busy because of the time required.

An early Xmas miracle! Today is my son's 25th birthday, we met him at his restaurant of choice, two blocks from his apartment, ~60 miles for us. The miracle was, after dropping the wife and boy at the restaurant as it was threatening rain... I parked at a free on Sundays surface lot two blocks away (and the drizzle began. I endured). With two free chargers! And the miracle was that not only was one available, it was working! Nearly two hours of free juice, thank you town of Waltham, MA.

Mike, hope you find lasting relief soon for your back, and whatever else ails you. And Dolphins? Better to make/lose in the first round than suffer the slings and arrows of the cellar dweller (from the Penthouse to underneath the outhouse; where have you gone Tom Brady? Patriot nation turns its lonely eyes to you) Patriots.

And, not to nitpick, but for the Conti DWS tires, I believe that W = wet. Of course, whatever, I've read that they are great tires. If I have to get new sneaks for the A7 or the M240, the Contis and Michelin Pilot Sports AS top of the list.

I drove the 4xe on a 130 mile round trip today; on the interstate I kept it between 70 and 80 mph. All in all it's not a bad cruiser. I kept it in e-Save on the interstate but switched it to Hybrid for the rural two lanes.
Average mpg was brought down considerably by the use of the IC motor on the interstate, but the Jeep still returned 53.5 mpg.

Bloody Mary ‘s loaded with all kinds of garnishes is a thing now. Some come with skewers of sliders, chicken, shrimp, etc. I think of them more like an appetizer and drink in one

What a great way to start the day! I think you got some of your important food groups there. 4 fruits (tomato, lime, lemon, olive) and some protein and necessary fat in the chicken wing. The vodka will help kill any bacteria.
