These are the guys who never called me back in 2015. I saw these two cars on their lot for months and months. Now they are selling them as "demos"...whatever that means. 2 year old cars but no milage listed anywhere and on one of them only $900 off. Some incentives mentioned but their ad really doesn't explain if they are mutually exclusive or can be combined. Have you ever heard of a dealer using sports cars as service loaners which is what many demos really are?
That is weird oldfarmer....they are 2015 cars and they are taking off $4000 on a $34k MSRP + $900 off from Ford on one car, and nothing off $42200 on the other car, + $900 off from Ford...also a 2015!
I think that dealer is really messed up. Might be worth an email or a phone call to ask them what is going on. Maybe do one of those phony calls....tell them you are really excited by the idea of getting a 2015 car for a full and unbelievable $900 off MSRP!
From USA Today: In their quest to attract shoppers, stores will partner with big-name manufacturers to create "derivative models" — stripped-down versions of pre-existing TVs. These TVs, made specifically for Black Friday, are often not as good as the model they're based on: The picture may be lesser quality, or the warranty may be altered. There could be some missing features or components. In short, that 42-inch Samsung TV you buy on Black Friday might not be as good as a 42-inch Samsung bought back in October.
One TV in particular stands out this year: Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) will sell a 55-inch LG LED for $499. It seems like a hot deal, but I would have to urge caution. LG isn't the most respected brand, but it's considered fairly reputable. That TV in particular, however, appears to be a derivative model. That specific model number, 55LN5100, isn't available at any other retailer — it seems to have been made by LG just for Best Buy, with the intention of attracting attention to the retailer.
Comparing its specifications to a similar LG set, the 55LN5200, a few things stand out. Most notably, Best Buy's model lacks smart TV features, and doesn't offer as many settings: It has just two different aspect ratios to choose from, while the non-Best Buy-specific version has six.
To be fair, non-discriminate buyers might not notice or care about these features, but consumers should at least be aware of what they're purchasing.
I saw that too -- and it's only about Black Friday -- not a regular practice -- and the article is hedged with qualifiers -- " may be" not "is". Generally things are on sale because someone made too many of them.
I think Black Friday is used as an example, but, if they do it for Black Friday I am sure they would do it for after Xmas sales too!
I've never had a W211, so I might not be an authority. I do know 2007 was a facelift year, and I think the first year that engine was sold here. No engine issues come to mind, but I think some older 4Matic cars can have transfer case issues, and all of those cars had Airmatic, that's always something to keep in mind. For any MB of that age, a good PPI is the best bet.
Hey, fin. Out of curiosity, what do you know about the 2007 E550 4matic? Good? Bad? Problem areas?
Thanks. Still leaning toward a GLK350, but have found some pretty good deals on E550s.
I believe Mike said cars like E550s....2 door coupe type Mercedes depreciate quickly....few people want a large 2 door Mercedes as a used car. Good buy if you are going to keep it.
Our GLK is a great car....drives like the E400 with the same engine but has higher seating and a great comfortable design, I love the firm but smooth ride, takes bumps nicely. Also, small and nimble handling, great firm accurate steering.

E550 sedan debuted for the 2007 model year in North America. It was offered until model year 2014 in the US (when supposedly replaced by the E400), but I think lived on through 2015 and maybe 2016 in Canada, sold alongside the E400. Weird. From 2012 onward, it received a twin turbo V8 that makes it a real sleeper. I was thinking of finding one of these before I got the Bluetec. but they are uncommon, especially with the exact spec one might want.

Neighbor has E500 of unknown year. Expensive to maintain for a car which should have been built for dependability. Problem-plagued vehicle in his case. He's on first name basis with owner or manager of MB store near Cincy. He bypasses the local Dayton store now after several expensive repairs. LOL
TV's? Part numbers pretty much tell the tale. I bought a 42" Samsung a year ago without the smart stuff. I don't like anything lurking on my WiFi. It appeared to be the earlier version of the 42" smart TV.
I do recall from looking at parts listings that some TVs had more than one source for parts, so another of the same model might have a different supplier for the LED screen or the power supply, e.g.. Sort of like car makers can use tires from more than one manufacturer on the same vehicle model.
My thinking is that the big discounts are on near current models that are likely to be replaced by better versions with more features, so the suppliers produce huge numbers for a contract with the retailer as a way of paying for the development costs and the foreign production facility and foreign workers who are being paid anyway.
Curious. With all this Mercedes talk, Mike has not shown his face. He has either abandoned this thread or his health may have taken a bad turn. Anybody knows his whereabouts?

I read a review of the new Toyota Corolla and it said the car has such a good dependability record because it is so simple.....just a basic car with no refined technology.
When we are talking cars like Mercedes, we are talking about a lot more that can go wrong. New technologies and much more complex....so much more to go wrong.
If I compare the E400 or GLK to the Fusion rental....it is like night and day. Different steering, different suspension, different handling, different level of engineering technology....there is a price to pay to get that. The Fusion gets you there and I think it is good value for the money, but, it is not even close to driving the MB.

Mike was scheduled for surgery last week, but it was called off as his liver wasn't up to it at the time. He has to find another course and will see a specialist. I don't think he is up to posting, he has a lot to deal with.
I miss him a lot and hope things work out....I know we all do!

I decided that I could no longer tolerate the whining of the Michelin tires that came with my Lincoln. Decent tread left after 28k miles of my ownership (plus whatever the previous owner put on) but the drone is worse than snow tires. So off I go into the world of tires.
I knew that I wanted to match the two Dunlops that I put on 2 years ago but the warehouse club where I got them didn't have any in stock. I looked up the tire on a national brand web site and was told that tire doesn't fit my car. Hmmmmm tell that to the two tires already on there. They of course recommended their own brand. Fishy? So scratch that store.
Next I tried a regional tire/muffler place that had bought out a local guy who I was always happy with. "Sure we got that tire, just not today" they said so I made an appointment for tomorrow. Their web page listed an $8 charge for "shop overhead" and I asked what that was about...they hung up. Called back...they hung up. Called again...guy says "hold on a minute"...and hangs up. Forth time I called back and told them to forget it.
So I go back to the warehouse club and ask them to order. Tires will be in tomorrow. Couple bucks cheaper. Why do I do this to myself?

I've noticed a few places around me that do the same type of thing. The phrase they use is "shop supplies".
I can't help thinking they got this idea because they are in the car biz and have taken the lead from dealerships that use the words "doc fees". Don't we all love that term? :@

Sounds like they are on the front? Is Alignment correct? Try putting them on the rear to clean up the tread wear.
Was at the tire store having a tiny nail removed from the tread so it would hold air. Police car was sitting in the drive of credit union across the street at I pulled in. He left using his whoop siren to chase a speeder heading north. By the time I'd given the keys to the desk guy, there were two police cars in the drive to the credit union putting up yellow tape. Someone had held up the CC. 5 minutes later two sheriff's cars were there with a dog to track the perpetrator across the field. So in 3-4 minutes a guy had robbed the place. Luckily he didn't come across the main road to the tire store. LOL.
This is about mile from where the interstate speeder drove off the ramp and into a power pole. when he was fleeing across the 6 lanes of this same road at the interstate.

Had the car aligned when I bought it. The Michelins were on the front. They whined back then. I put them on the back when I bought two new tires. They whined there too and over the years have started whining more and more. So either these tires are junk or I have a bad rear end.
That would be my luck to find out after I buy new tires.

"Shop supplies" has been on invoices from car repair places for many years now. It's usually small enough that no one argues or gets upset about it, just a little extra profit thrown in.
I don't believe I've ever given anyone a chance to hang up on me 3 times in a row. But I do know what you're talking about, I keep encountering businesses that really seem to not want my business. Amazing, really.
And please add my name to the list that is pulling for Mike to get better and return here.
I have passed on your good wishes and prayers to our friend Mike. He has appointments to assess his kidneys, which aren't functioning well enough for surgery at this time.
He has a lot on his plate....hopefully we will get some solid positive news one day soon.
"Shop supplies"! It is like going to the barber and then being charged because the barber has to buy scissors and razor blades, and get the sheet they put on you cleaned. :@

Unless it is a rare and collectible 1994-95, that E500 would be 2003-06. Not exactly the golden age of MB, especially as it is now a minimum of 10 years old. Definitely not something to take to the dealer, either - find a good indy.

Looks like a bargain - post it on the "project cars" thread in the classic section. I could see a couple people who aren't terribly far from there actually going after it.
Back when I was in collage, one of my roommate's girlfriends worked as a bartender at the nicest hotel in Burlington, VT. She got us in to an invitation only event unveiling of the Mark V. Carl Yaztremski was the guest celeb. Anyways, nobody would go near the car, so Yaz brings someone over the car with him. Then while talking to them, he puts his foot up on the bumper and his drink on the hood. Next thing you know there is a big crowd around the car, the car is covered with drink glasses and more than a few of those drinks were spilled on it. It was pretty funny to see!

I'd love cruising around in a boat like that. Bet my school bus gets better gas milage.
If all the A/C really needed was Freon it would have been added and the add would have screamed, "THE A/C STILL WORKS".
That line of "all it needs is charged", is sooo old it has a beard.

That means I still have it.I'm leaving this ad up for 5 days. After this Friday,Sept.2nd, the ad gets deleted and the car is no longer for sale until next Spring. No exceptions.Buy it now for 3 grand.
Car looks nice and the price seems good, but, if it was legit he wouldn't have to me such a jerk - I agree!

Maybe the guy is just tired of game players - probably gets a few with a car like that, as I suspect more people want to talk about a barge like that than actually have the means or desire to own it.. I am sure CL can be frustrating. When I sold a MB W126 over 10 years ago, I put it on CL (but sold it to someone else), and some of the responses I received were irritating.

Throw me in with the bunch that are concerned about Mike. I hope he gets the care he needs and gets to feeling better - I miss his comments in here. Get better soon, Mike!

I can't help thinking they got this idea because they are in the car biz and have taken the lead from dealerships that use the words "doc fees". Don't we all love that term? :@

This is about mile from where the interstate speeder drove off the ramp and into a power pole. when he was fleeing across the 6 lanes of this same road at the interstate.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
That would be my luck to find out after I buy new tires.

I've been told we're pretty slow around here so I guess this proves it.

I don't believe I've ever given anyone a chance to hang up on me 3 times in a row. But I do know what you're talking about, I keep encountering businesses that really seem to not want my business. Amazing, really.
And please add my name to the list that is pulling for Mike to get better and return here.
He has a lot on his plate....hopefully we will get some solid positive news one day soon.

That line of "all it needs is charged", is sooo old it has a beard.
Q said the guy sounds like a jerk. I'd say more like a liar. :@

No trades. No lowball offers. No BS.If you need permission from your wife, mother, sister, girl friend,or anyone else, please get it before you contact me.I really want this car to go from my garage.I need the space for another project before Winter. E-mail me a working phone number and I'll call you.No phone number in your e-mail?? I delete it.One line e-mail like " Do you still have it? "I delete that too.Do you see my ad here?? That means I still have it.I'm leaving this ad up for 5 days. After this Friday,Sept.2nd, the ad gets deleted and the car is no longer for sale until next Spring. No exceptions.Buy it now for 3 grand.
Car looks nice and the price seems good, but, if it was legit he wouldn't have to me such a jerk - I agree!
