I see quite a few on used car lots around town. More than on the roads actually.
I do like that little Abarth, though. Jay Leno has one.
I bet they are parked right next to the Smart Cars. I see a few of both on the roads around here. Why anyone outside of a congested city would buy one is a puzzle.
Never drove the Fiat but I did drive the Smart in a very congested city environment and it thrives in that. Not sure I would drive it in a rural setting, but if i lived in the city I surely would look into a Smart car.

@oldfarmer, Can you register a car that doesn't have a working horn? When I moved to CT, I had a VW with a horn that didn't work sometimes. Of course during the inspection, it didn't work. I went to lunch, went back and it worked. The inspector gave me some stink eye, but there was nothing he could do.
Well here there is no inspection so I would think that all you need is a VIN and nothing else.

In NY you can register without a working horn but it won't pass inspection. His horn has a worn cam which causes a short in extremely cold weather. On occasion I'd go to work on a sub zero morning and it would be doing a low moan which would disappear as temps rose. Rather than risk draining the battery our mechanic simply disconnected the power wire. I told the buyer to take it to him and have him reconnect the wire or direct wire a seperate button to blow the horn bypassing the short.
Either way it would pass inspection.
The buyer wanted me to do this for him and he'd pay full price but I pointed out that since the car had no plates I'd have to pass towing costs on to him. He decided to do it himself.

Driver....Yay! I'm sure you're relieved this whole thing is over. It's really a shame that insurance companies make what is tragic to begin with more difficult and frustating to add to your misery. I despise insurance companies, but they're a necessary evil.
Maybe we'll get the equivalent of "Obama care" for cars sometime soon. "Obama car".
Some provinces in Canada have government run insurance. Rates are generally lower, but, I don't know how efficient they are. Just like no cost health, we have government run car insurance!
I was not aware of the problem that you could have with the check being sent to your Florida address since you are a Canadian citizen. That does complicate your situation alright and with that info I guess I would have punted. THE CHECK WILL TRAVEL ABOUT 30 MILES INSTEAD OF 1500.
Since I also have replacement coverage on both of our cars, just to be sure how it worked I called my insurance agent today. So, after learning this hard lesson I made sure that the Genny is titled in both our names. OUR CARS ARE IN BOTH OUR NAMES. THEY SAID THEY WOULD MAIL THE CHECK TO US - WE ASKED FOR IT TO BE SENT TO THE DEALER .
I asked the insurance agent if the check would also have the dealers name on it and he said, "NO". He was surprised by my question and asked why I brought that up. I told him about your story and he said maybe that is how they do it in Canada but with my insurance company the check is sent to the owner as I mentioned above. He also said that the check was for the replacement of lost property and if I wanted to, I could use it for anything. Like going on a vacation, buying furniture for the house and even to buy a less expensive car and put the difference in the bank.
THE CHECK COULD HAVE BEEN MADE OUT TO US AND WE COULD HAVE SPENT IT ANY WAY WE WANTED. WE PREFERRED IT BE SENT TO THE DEALER AND WE WANTED THEIR NAME ON IT FOR A FEW REASONS. ONE WAS BECAUSE WE ORDERED THE NEW CAR AND WE DIDN'T PUT ANY MONEY DOWN SO WE WANTED TO SHOW GOOD FAITH. ALSO, WITH THE DEALERS NAME ON THE CHECK THEY WILL TAKE BETTER CARE OF IT. IF IT IS STOLEN IT WILL BE HARDER TO CASH. WE WANT THE CAR, THEY WANT THE CHECK......IT IS A BIT WIERD BUT IT WORKS FOR BOTH OF US
He said that if I was not the one at fault (like your case) if the responsible insurance company didn't settle the claim in a reasonable time period, which he felt yours did not, my company would pay me the replacement cost and go after the other company which he said is not all that uncommon.
I AM JUST MAKING AN EDUCATED GUESS, BUT WE DO HAVE NO FAULT INSURANCE, SO I AM PRETTY SURE THE AT FAULT INSURANCE COMPANY DID PAY FOR OUR DAMAGES. MY GUESS IS MY "FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE" INSURANCE WAS OFFERED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY, THEY COLLECTED MOST OF THE MONEY FROM THE AT FAULT INSURER - THAT IS EASY TO DO WITH NO FAULT, NO FIGHTING, NO LAWYERS. MY COMPANY PAID THE FULL VALUE PART, SO THEY DON'T WANT TO SPEND MORE THAN THEY HAVE TO.
So there you have it for how I was told how my insurance company does it. Although I don't want to find out first hand if it actually does work like I have mentioned but I have no reason to believe otherwise.
I HOPE YOU NEVER HAVE TO FIND OUT TOO, BUT I THINK BOTH INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE ALMOST THE SAME, ONLY DIFFERENCES ARE "NO FAULT" AND THE "FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE" PARTS.
In other news, I had an older(70s) couple come in to look at a 5er and a 7er. I helped the salesperson with some demos. The husband told us that it was refreshing to meet people who knew about the cars they were selling. They had just come from a Hyundai dealer to look at a new Genesis sedan and he said that the sales guys there were just hopeless. He also mentioned that they looked at Maseratis and the sales guy and service manager both said that the Masers had rock-solid reliability. The customer said he scratched that dealer off his list for lying outright.
I'm sure you're right about Hyundai dealers not knowing about what they are selling and if there is ever going to be a brand that falls into this category, it will be a Hyundai dealership. However, the dealer in VA where I got my '15 Genny in May of 2015 was not the typical Hyundai store. They had a guy similar to what you do as a BMW Genius that showed me more about the car than I wanted to know. In fact I had to stop him and tell him if I wanted to know more than what he just told me or what I could get from the manual, I'd call him. He said he HAD to go over what Hyundai hired him to do. I said, "OK but I can tell you right now I don't care about all the gizmos that this car has". He was very surprised and said, "people that buy this car love this stuff, that's one of the reasons why they buy it". I told him the reason I bought it was because I wanted something a little more than a grocery getter and I did like some creature comforts and more HP but that's it.
In his office after wasting more than 45 minutes of my time he said he was now going to set me up for some kind of a Hyundai link that was complementary for 6 months. This thing was for a smart phone app so that I could get access to a myriad of Hyundai stuff. One of which he thought was the cat's meow. This was remote start from my phone from just about anywhere not just a few hundred feet away. I told him I'd never use it so don't bother. Again he said he HAD to get me set up and if I didn't like it I didn't have to renew when the free subscription ran out. To do this he HAD to get my CC number otherwise this feature could not be activated. I knew this was going to be trouble and I should have stopped this thing right there but I said OK, in part because Mrs. j said, "let him set it up you don't have to use it. Don't be so difficult to get along with". We are just about done in the office when Son #1, who went with us, walks in wanting to know what is taking so long. This Guru tells him and my Son says, "now that's something that I would like but that is just a waste of time for him because he isn't going to use it". The guy says, "are you sure about that? Once he sees the benefits of it he'll love it". My Son just smiled and said, "wanna bet". The guy didn't take him up on his offer.
Fast forward to the end of the trial period and I get an email from Hyundai that my CC has just been hit for almost $200 to continue this 'life can't exist without this feature thingy'. I called Hyundai to tell them I didn't want it and I wanted the charge removed from my CC. The guy asked me why and I told him I never had the need for it so I never used it, not once. This guy is floored about that and now offers to leave it activated for a full year free of charge so that I could at least try it out. I told him again that I didn't want it and to just credit my credit card. He said OK. About 2 months later I get a call from Hyundai wanting to know how I liked this "feature". I told them that it was cancelled and my CC was already credited, so as far as I'm concerned it was taken care of. This new caller said, "OK, but we'll leave it activated for a while longer so that you can try it out". That ended the phone call. For all I know it's still activated but at least I have not gotten anymore calls or emails.
I'm still surprised that a real luxo buyer of BMW's or Maserati's would even venture into a Hyundai dealership. Those types of buyers (more than likely flakes) are just going to ruin the image of what owning a Hyundai or should I say Genesis is all about.
Then again, maybe I'm not a true Genesis buyer.

Wow, Hyundai really doesn't have a clue about how to sell to "premium" buyers. I never force clients to learn about features they aren't interested in. Sometimes they change their minds and want to drop by and learn about a feature and at that point I'm happy to explain it and train them how to use it.
All of BMW's connectivity subscriptions-with the exception of the optional wireless hotspot-are free for the first four years of ownership. We do activate the subscriptions but don't go into huge detail if they aren't interested.
Having said all that, I find that most clients DO want to learn how to use the features they have paid for, and I'm happy to assist. Just last Saturday I taught a client how to use the Parking Assistant in her new 7 Series; it's pretty cool- the car can parallel park or perpendicular park with absolutely no input from the driver. Not an option I'd buy, but lots of fun to demonstrate...

Funny. My uncle has a 98 LeSabre identical to that, same color, same wheels, even the same fender dent. He bought it maybe 10-12 years ago for like $2500, and it keeps going - I think he's around 175K miles.
In more positive news, I sold my son's old 1998 LaSabre tonight to some people down the street. I listed it for $900, dropped the price to $800 when my son reminded me the horn didn't work and settled for $725. Probably a fair price considering that it was kind of banged up and rusty with 118k miles. It'll serve them well as a beater which is what they needed. After two weeks on Craigslist got one flake who promised to show but didn't and two others who saw it driving by. The buyer was a drive-by.
@venture, Is that color 'Magnetic'? It looks the same as what I am getting. How is your car treating you? I had a 2013 Titanium and it was a nice car. It had some first year problems, but the big one was that other people kept damaging it. I felt it had bad C(k)arma.
It's sterling gray. When I first got it it the rear seat belonged in a SE not a Titanium. The 6 year-old (at the time)mentioned that my seats didn't match - a tale I told here. The dealer fixed that after he was finished laughing. Other than that I haven't had any problems. Of course it only has 24k miles on it.
Mine has a few tweaks that you may or may not have noticed. The shark fin antenna, the little spoiler at the top of the rear window, and the Ford emblem on the back is gray not blue. Subtle, but distinguishing.
If I decided to get something new I really don't know what I would get right now. There's nothing out there that yanks my chain.
Last weekend my wife and I were having lunch. We were seated at a window that overlooked the street, and could people watch and watch cars go up and down the road. A middle age woman tried time and again to parallel park her Corolla and finally gave up. As soon as she drove away a man in an old Town Car snapped up the spot and parallel parked it in one try!
Now that's a riot. The things that happen when you don't have a camera running...

Those cars must have been built like tanks....that is one older car I usually still see in fair quantity on the roads....especially on Florida roads where cars last longer and there are more elderly people.
They usually have a few dinged fenders and a bit of rust, but they are still running. Never see Pontiacs or Chevs of that era, just those Buicks.

I think you have to show how all the major stuff works...and the buyer maybe has to sign that you have done that. I find the amount of information is overwhelming, most people can't take it all in. I like the idea of coming back in a few days to go over any of the things I can't do. My MB consultant will answer emails or the phone and get back to me if I have a question. If our plan goes right, I pick up our car on a Wednesday, have 2 days to ask questions, then drive to Florida on Monday. Hope I can work enough stuff to make the drive OK. Have to figure out how the media things work, and change speedo from kilos to miles, find out where my USB stick goes, along with a lot of other things.
With my Caddy, he asked me about each feature. Told him I'd figure out the nav. He paired my phone. Asked me about the parking assist and I said no thanks. That was about it.

When I traded the '09 Civic EX for the Accord, the title was in joint name, both names listed separated by or, not and. That allowed me to sign without my wife being present. When the Accord was registered, I thought I had specified the same yet it was issued in my name only. When my wife found out she was not happy. The Accord now has more mileage (62k) on it than the Civic (59k) did when I traded it.

A few states let you put someone's name on the title so that title will automatically transfer to them if you die. (pdf link). We can that here in New Mexico for real property, but not cars. Maybe the "or" language helps you avoid probate. It could also make divorce actions a bit more entertaining.

Love that particular gray color. One of the best I've seen.
Very nice! If I were in the market, this would be sitting at the top of my list.

Yikes! Black wheels on a Jag? Makes it look like a Ford Fusion. Who do they sell those cars to, dead beats? 3.49% for 84 months? That's like a 600 credit score.

To me, a bit too "in your face" in red. Still, quite a looker. You won't be a wall flower driving either of them, that's for sure.
Bradd...just happened to be meeting some folks for dinner not far from the Jag dealership. I was in the area for some work related activities, so didn't want to go home and come back. So, I headed over to the dealership. I had no intention of test driving. Sales person (very nice and knowledgeable) more or less insisted (ok...I didn't need much of a nudge).
It's quick....certainly much quicker than my CTS and about as fast as my previous S4 (which was quite quick). Maybe high 4s, low 5s 0-60 based on my buttometer. Steering is a little light, but I don't know if it had any selections like sport, tour, comfort modes to use. I leave my CTS is sport mode, so that's what I'm used to.
Jag must import that leather smell, as every one I've ever been in has the very noticeable smell of leather. Leather was quite nice. Nice materials, like carbon fiber trim.
Didn't really get to toss it around much as it was a short test drive. Drives smaller than it looks. That's a good thing. Handles rough roads well (hit some railroad tracks going pretty fast, couldn't upset the suspension).
Shift knob was a little gimicky. It stays flush on the console until you start the car, and then rises up. Why can't car companies just use shift levers? PRND lever, works well and really has no improvement required.
As mentioned, not in the market, but looks alone will gain the car quite a few sales. I thought it was gorgeous. Would love to do an extended test drive some time (which the sales person urged me to do). They offered to let me take it home overnight.
They may have had some diesels, but I wasn't looking for them, so don't know.
I may lease my next car given how my work pays for 3 years or newer. So, Michael, what're the leases like on an XE-S AWD, 36K, 36 mo,?
I think it looks a lot better in this color with these wheels.
Even blurry those wheels look much better. Maybe it's me but black wheels take all the class out of a Jaguar.
I notice it's got a 3.0L 24 valve motor. I read somewhere that Ford's 3.0L Duratech was used in some Jags. Could this be a turbo version of that motor? I'm sure my son would like 340hp in his Sable. (Ok, he wouldn't care but I like the idea)

The check for the dealer arrived today.....insurance company sent it Fedex! Now, once we sign it the dealer will add any extras, like Service Pkge, $1300, registration $400, and a few more things like about $2500 and we will be all paid up when this puppy arrives.
I think the insurance company is making up for all the trouble they caused....seems like they are really trying to get this done.
Parked back to back with my Fusion was a 2004 F150 4x4 supercab with matching cap, 15k miles! Color combo was a bit funky, bright yellow with gray lower paint. The interior looked absolutely brand new.

Very nice! If I were in the market, this would be sitting at the top of my list.

I liked the one I sat in last week. Definitely a baby XF. Almost identical interior, just shorter.

It's nice to see that like me, you are addicted to buying cars, abet with a higher budget.

Jaguar has been pushing 33 month programs, recently - 60% and .00016 for 33/12

I would do 33 months. cheaper payments, and new car sooner!

Just down the street the Buick dealer received their first new Lacrosse - black on black of course, though the wheels are not black at least.

Red does look nice too!
Red + black interior looked sharp, but, I just don't think I could do it....I would play it safe.

I think the insurance company is making up for all the trouble they caused....seems like they are really trying to get this done.

Of course, it snowed today, although it turned rain, so it was dry too long after that.

Color combo was a bit funky, bright yellow with gray lower paint.
The interior looked absolutely brand new.

I like the color more than the wheels. They make a different style that I'm going to look for.
"the 36 month payment is $617; for 33 months, $610. Before tax, and all fees paid up front."
unless you are adding in an extra 3 months at 617? That gets it closer. But not apples to apple
