I wonder if @ab348's plunger would take out the new dent in the van. Just got t-boned a couple of hours ago. Sheet metal really isn't too bad but the rear wheel is bent in to the fender liner. Details here, and we're okay.

Forgot to take the phone while running errands as usual, so no pics, unless the film in my one-time use camera that must be 8 years old is still good.

Sorry to hear about that stever. T-Bone can really be bad. So many people I talk to these days have had accidents. I think texting and cell phones are really adding to the number accidents.

Glad to hear you are basically pretty good....that is the most important thing!

Yeah, the kid tagged us way in the rear - really happy he didn't nail me in the driver's door.

I really do like the styling on that vintage C class. And just the perfect size for me. I would not mind at all trying to find a nice late 2014 model, since those will be 3+ years old at that point. With a nice option load of course!

or by then, the 2015/16 newer styles will be more affordable. They are nice too.

I can sell you one for $29990! :p

Fintail, thanks for that list, I am saving it!

One other thing about Autonation....they have these ugly PINK license plate holders they put on all their new cars....unless you go to the gift shop and buy normal ones.

We chose regular chrome ones which I am sure we paid an exorbitant amount for....Mrs D used her credit card and I don't know how much it was....but, I didn't want the PINK one on there with the goofy wording...even though it is for a good cause.

My dad's truck finally sold last week. $5000 to a CHP officer who will treat it right.

Lots of memories with that truck; one last pic for all to see.

That's a beautiful truck. Just to jog my memory...year, milage etc. etc.

Tough to sell something that belonged to dad. Just sold my father's 1998 LaSabre that my son has been driving for the last 12 years. As I was cleaning it up to sell it brought back memories. Even though dad passed in 2001 it was hard to see it go.
1970 C-10. Probably 150K on the chassis and 50K on the rebuilt 350. He paid $3500 for it, brand new.

I am pretty excited, I love that little car...and I can't find one I would like as much and they are all priced the same or higher.

It's a go then, sorry it took so long JM.

I've made requests where they've searched nationwide inventory (or so they say) and found nothing. That's one thing that helped me pick the current car (other than end of model year leftover deal) - it was close to what I would want without putting in a special order.

Fintail.....I agree. Driver, you found a car you like. You made a move on it....bought it. German brands (or at least their dealers) seem to be enamored with black, grey, silver, white....all with black interiors. Yours sounds quite nice and not run of the mill.

Buying used is different than buying new. Your recent C, OldFarmer's 'Vette, my Cobra, etc...all pulled us forwards them where price wasn't of utmost importance because you might not find another that tugs you towards it.

lol...and may be true or may not be. But, near the end our salesman said another salesman came over and told him that he had a customer coming in tomorrow to look at the car.

You know what concerned me? In these cases, you let the car go, then you buy one for even more, or you buy one that isn't quite as nice, or you buy one just to get it and it has problems because you are buying recklessly.

We got the exact car we love, and it looks great. I sat in the new C Classes in the showroom and I don't like the feel of it as much. I like the looks and comfort of this one. Drove great on the way home. Love the turbo 4.
Congrats on the new car. Looks pretty nice too.

It's a shame you paid 200 bucks to much for it. ;)

FWIW, my nose is pretty soft.

@stever - glad to hear you are OK. You must be really shaken up.

@stickguy & @driver100 - I also really like the C-Class of that vintage. MB has a pretty generous CPO warranty. I'd have to find the ULTIMATE car. It would have to be a 2014 C300 4Matic Sport with the 3.5L V6 (which has the adaptive suspension), The 5 Spoke AMG wheels, with Xenon Headlights, in Iridium Silver for me to even consider it.

RE 2014 C250 The difference is $15800 all in, between the C 250 and the Passat. We offered $14000 difference yesterday and they were supposed to call back. Didn't get a call yesterday, they called this morning and left a message, can't accept $14000. I have been looking for similar cars and there isn't anything I can find better. Considering offering $15000, but, not sure if they will then hold out for $15800. I have to word it carefully.
Do you really want it $15,000 worth? If so then make a counter offer, if not don't bump yourself further. Maybe they'll cave but if they don't you can always find another.
I caved.........but over $200. Like JM said, over 6 years thats less than $40 a year, for the perfect car...couldn't be better. Love driving it...it is more fun to drive than the E! Salesman said they gave $600 more for the Passat which he rarely sees, and took $200 off the new one which he has never seen done before. We got there at 3, all the salesmans papers were ready and in order. We completed that in 30 minutes, then we waited 2 HOURS to see the finance guy. Had to turn down extended warranty $2000, RFT insurance...found the car didn't have them, wheel insurance $300, stone chip insurance $300, a bunch of other stuff that could add $7000 to the price. Then I must have signed 20 forms....you sign more forms buying a car in Florida than you do to buy a house. Some are if there is a dispute you agree to arbitration......all kinds of forms. Finally left at 6:30PM....a very long tiring day.
What kind of extended warranty were they offering to beat the 100k coverage already on it??

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I had to take the recyclables out to the garage and I took a look at the C250 and it sure does look priddy.

The warranty isn't as good as they made it sound. They have very tricky wording, "The car comes with Mercedes top CPO warranty, 5 years coverage and unlimited miles" We thought it meant 5 years from the time we bought the car BUT, what it means is 5 years from when the car was sold the first time. So the BtoB warranty runs until Jan 2019, 5 years from Jan 2014 when the car was built. Unlimited mileage is interesting, but, I guess if you do that many miles you will pay for so much service they make money on it anyway.

We were disappointed in what the warranty really means, but, it still gives us two years of covered driving, and then we will know whether it is a car we will keep or trade in...or sell to oldfarmer.

A few other comments. I don't know why Mercedes sales people have to wear suits in Florida. I would be OK with them wearing nice T shirts. Also, I have never bought a Mercedes and our salesman had to change the license plates from one car to the other. This has always been done by the service people.

About the warranty, the salesman said this warranty is better than the original warranty, which is 4 years and 50k miles. I guess it is, all in how you interpret it.

That C300 would be a good alternative. I don't think I would buy from a private dealer unless I could get an MB warranty. The 6 would be nice....but, I think the little 4 adds to the enjoyment of driving.

@driver100 - congrats on the new ride. I like that red color as well. A nice change from all the silver, grey, black and while you normally see.

A water tap would be kind of handy @Michaell. We usually carry some (warm) bottled water in the car, this being the desert and all. After the fender bender yesterday, I popped two Advil but couldn't find any water anywhere. One of those cooled glove boxes would probably suffice.

The other thing would be to have a hot water tap for making coffee. That would be real handy camping - about the only cooking we do in the campgrounds is making coffee.

Not sore this morning by the way, and my wife thinks my shoulder was tender yesterday from the seat belt catching me, not me hitting the B pillar.

Glad the aches and pains are minimal. You could probably get that hot water tap if you didn't mind a little taste of antifreeze.

My sister likes some comedian named Brett Leake and told me this morning that we got Rammed in our Dodge. (the stolen joke being who would buy a car named Dodge and Ram?)

Driver, the place I linked to has been there a long time. Nice stuff, and they are getting from a MB specific auction I think. And they list in service date, so you are looking at 1-1.5 years on most of the 2014s BtoB factory, plus the 2 years extra powertrain.

Stever....aches and pains, but no worse for the wear. Probably the best you could hope for. Glad you're OK!

    @stever,
If you had bought that Kia Soul, maybe they would have missed you!

I'm waiting for my wife to suggest we skip the Soul and get a Hummer H2.

Soul has a turbo now, if you can handle all that power :p

Can't get the ventilated seats in the turbo model though. :'(

They stick on the 18" wheels on the turbo too. Ugh. The MPG is a hair better though.

At least the heated steering wheel is easy to get.

My mother always said I was special.

Now Ford agrees with her. Just got an email wanting to know if I would be interested in participating in some "important" research. They want me to plug a data device into my Mustang for 2 and a half months to monitor how the car performs. Just like insurance companies do except they say they don't want to monitor my driving just how the car responds to it.

They offer $50 for the trouble.

Not sure it would be fair to take their money since the car is likely to spend the next couple of months under a sheet in the garage.

"Recently, you completed a vehicle usage survey regarding your 2015 Mustang GT COUPE 5.0L 4V on behalf of Ford. From your responses to that survey, you have been identified as a potential participant in a follow-up research study.
Morpace has again partnered with Ford and now Geotab, a leading vehicle usage data collection software company, to offer a limited number of Ford owners the opportunity to participate in a 2.5 month study to collect vehicle performance data.
UnitAll data will be reported alongside other participants; personal information will never be disclosed or reported on.
    So how does this work?
A small device is plugged into the vehicle's OBDII port and records data while you drive, such as:
    Braking habits
    Acceleration
    Seat belt use
    Fuel economy
    Idling time
    Hours of usage
    Maintenance requirements
This is similar to the devices advertised by insurance companies to collect data on your driving habits and offer a reduction in insurance premiums based on the information collected. In this case, we're only interested in the vehicle performance, not your driving performance.
It's very simple for you to install and takes only a few minutes."

For 2016, the Exclaim is the way to go. For the 2017s, the better stuff is on the Plus model (the turbo only comes on the Exclaim). About $26,500 MSRP or so for a load Plus.

Was checking the spare tire accessory last night. Tools, rim. No tire - very odd. Maybe be easier to get a tire/rim from a shop or on craigslist and buy a jack at Harbor Freight. The kit may have some tie down stuff on though.

I just bought a set of 4 Michelin tires and I think I don't like it. My original tires were the Goodyear RSA 245/40 R19 high performance and responsive tires. Although a little bit noisy, they were great.

The Michelin Primacy MXM4 94V All Season by comparison is anything but...they are underwhelming and pricey at $1,277 mounted. The description reads:

"If you want all-season versatility (including light snow traction) and responsive handling along with noise and ride comfort you will like this Grand Touring tire. Branded with the M+S symbol and capable of providing year-round traction (even in light snow), these tires are designed to blend a performance tire's appearance with a passenger tire's smooth, quiet ride. Grand Touring All-Season tires are often used as Original Equipment and place more emphasis on handling and high-speed capabilities than Standard Touring tires."

The only thing that it has in common with a performance tire is its appearance (sic). The MXM4 Grand Touring is soft and jittery and does not seem to be compatible with my high performance and adaptive suspension system. The dealer says it is designed for the cushy boulevard ride and I will grow into liking it. Maybe so, but I miss my Goodyear RSAs. One consolation though, a $70 VISA rebate debit card.

Is this the new puppy in the garage?

That looks like it. It truly looks like a brand new car. The trunk is spotless. I couldn't pick up the pictures.
I am going to try for some photos later today.

It all happened so fast I forgot about changing my signature...thanks for the reminder. I almost ordered my new E400 in red...but it is a different red....darker red. They had an E350 in the showroom in red....I am sure glad I didn't get it in red, and went back to my standard white. I do like this car in red, it is different and it suits it...makes it look and feel more like a fun car.

Stick, the only question I would wonder about is why would Mercedes give up great used car trade-ins to an auction? I would think they could sell all the low mileage used MBs they can get their hands on. Not saying there is a problem....it is something I thought about. With the CPO warranty on the C250, the car can be brought in to any MB Dealer for service.

I want to get a dash cam in the E400...I guess once you are in an accident you realize how important it can be.

Since my accident I have heard of so many people who tell me they were just hit in an accident too. I tell people and either they have been hit within the last few months or a close friend or relative has been a victim.

Bwia. It is too bad tires don't come with a satisfaction guaranteed warranty. I just bought $100 tennis shoes that seemed fine in the store....not great after playing for an hour. $1300 worth of tires is even worse.

Really surprised Goodyear can make a superior tire to Michelin too, but, you just never know.
