The drive home at 8 deg F (up from 6 deg F) was about 20 miles. Light refreezing on the roads. Lots of cars off. People never learn that curves on interstate level highways and especially curves on bridges make the rear wheels go "zoom." One way back one guy corkscrewed into the concrete retaining wall on the right of a strong double lane curve and bounced across 4 lanes to his the retaining wall on the left side. It was hard on the Chevy's body. Another turned over after a curve on overpass and entrance ramp.
@abacomike
I had a memory lapse today so you're not alone--it's just my age. I just realized hours later that I could have turned on the heated seat in the Cruze besides having the heater on high. I forget about the heated seats unless my wife is with me. She always turns hers on for her lower back problems.
Don't ya just love those senior moments - maybe they should be called "senior hours or days or weeks!" Moments is an understatement!
"Atmospheric River" is a legit term, we have them a few times a year here, usually with minor flooding.
For 0-60, indeed, 10 is more than enough around here. More than once I have flown up on people while merging in the fintail, as they will dawdle in their Camrollas and dopey CUVs at 42mph,

It isn't that you are becoming forgetful. It is because as you get older you have more things filed in the memory bank. It takes longer to find what you stored there, because there is so much information in there.
Not sure exactly what that setting is (rental car place perhaps), but a 59 Edsel, Mercury and Ford. Can't make out that lighter colored two tone car between the Edsel and Merc, but maybe another 59 Mercury (tell the lady to move over a bit)? The 59 Mercury had a bit over the top styling, but I liked it.

I think it may be the same thing, but more fitting for SoCal! If not, PSH would be bigger and more dramatic clouds I suppose. But I've heard the term Marine Layer more on the east coast or Midwest.

Is that what they call the Marine Layer?
When I lived in San Diego and Los Angeles, summers brought with it the Marine Layer. Along the coast (and about 3-4 miles inland from the coast) the cold air from the Pacific Ocean collides with the warm air and causes a heavy cloud layer that inhibits sunlight. As the warm air gets warmer from heating from the sun, the Marine Layer burns off at about 1:00 - 2:00 PM. By 6:00 - 7:00 PM, the Marine Layer returns as the heating from the sun diminishes. So, we would experience sun for only a few hours a day on the coast. But just drive 3-5 miles inland and there isn't a cloud in the sky all day long.
Here on the east coast, we don't get that phenomenon because the Atlantic Ocean is warmer along the coast. Sometimes it's called an "inversion". I hope this helps explain the Marine Layer!

Weatherman Mike!
Since my house growing up was only a couple miles from the ocean, many of our summer days were only a few hours long.
. . . he replaced it with Home Depot's Ridgid brand. . .
Ridgid (Ridge Tool Co.) has been around a lot longer than Home Depot. Back when I was a machinist ('71-'72) my Ridgid calendar was a bright spot in my day. They've been making tools, particularly for the plumbing industry, since the early 1920s.
You will be disappointed with the 2017 Ridgid calendar.
Never mind! I see this was mentioned. That's the problem with being almost 200 posts behind.

The worse case of memory problems is our friend in early 70s who's had to have dialysis for several years now. The dialysis seemed to change her brain chemistry, along with her body, drastically. Often now she's in a fog. And it's so sad because she had always been just the opposite as a person. Sad.

Now that is bothering me...what that hidden car could be. It seems Ford provided the cars, so it must be a Ford brand. The cars have 59 on the windshield so it seems to be a new car dealership. That hidden car seems to have single rather than dual headlights...not sure. Picture from another angle:

I read that recently and that is the story I am sticking to. Just too much knowledge filed away in the old brain....takes longer to locate it.

As RB said, the mpg computer may be set on imperial gallons, or even kilometers.....whatever you do, don't correct it or your mpg will go down !
As far as the readout from some of the mileage indicators, people often have suggested they are not as accurate as we would like to think and the mileage needs to be verified by actual fillups.
And remember VW passing the emissions tests US with a little manipulation.
One thing I will give Cadillac credit for, their computer MPG calculations are pretty much spot on my manual calculations. They're usually within a tenth or two of the MPG I calculate manually. That's the most accurate of any car I've ever had.
Some manufacturers' MPG calculators are wildly optimistic (and inaccurate).
Must run in the GM family. My Enclave is also spot on to my calculations as well. The new Elantra is about 1.5 MPG optimistic from my numbers.
I've never looked at the instantaneous MPG readouts. I do use a mileage and service tracker app called Gas Buddy. It measures the MPG between fillups. Best I got on the CTS was 31 MPG on a 90% highway trip. My guess is part of that would hit 40+ MPG with the cruise on and on flat terrain.
But, I look at combined, which is some highway, some in city stop and go, some rural driving, etc.
Depending on percentages of each, I fluctuate between 22-24 MPG on average.
Only have had the CT6 a little over a week. So, no fillups yet. The 3.6 is supposed to be a new engine design. So, I'll be curious what a 335 HP DOHC V6 gets these days. According to the manual it runs on regular, not premium. So, that's a plus.
Just to find out how close the car's computer/odometer/mpg readouts are to actual, I decided to fill up the car with gas again this morning even though I filled it up yesterday morning. I pulled into Costco (per gallon price for premium increased 6 cents since yesterday) and the car took 3.4 gallons of gas, topped off/filled to the rim. I had driven 129 miles since last fill-up - that's 37.94 mpg's. Considering I drove 2 miles on city streets to get to Costco from my house which reduced the 40.3 average mpg's shown yesterday after my round trip to the dealership, I can now assume the car's readings are pretty accurate.
I would not drive this car in ECO PRO anywhere except on an interstate/turnpike for a reasonable distance because you are giving up performance, AC cooling, air circulation (HVAC) and responsiveness of the engine and transmission. It is recommended only for highway driving at constant speeds - but the fuel economy is truly amazing. I average 36.3 mpg in "COMFORT MODE" on the highway and my average mpg's (highway, city and suburban driving) are at 27.2 mpg. Definitely happy with these numbers.

For such a premium large car that fuel mileage is amazing! And it scoots when you want/need it to, sweet.

I have to laugh. The weather gurus forecasted 4-6" of snow. Store shelves were stripped bare of bread, milk and beer. And we get, what, a fraction of an inch??
Bodega Bay isn't where most of the famous birdie scenes take place and where the well-known house is. That's in Bodega, which is inland.
It's near Peteluma which is so built up now I don't recognize it. Used to be all chicken farms. Don't knw anything about birdie scenes. Quite a few years since I've been there.
The scene where the birds are chasing the school teacher down the street from that tall and rather creepy looking Victorian home---that's the town of Bodega, not Bodega Bay.
Great movie---I *always* root for the birds. And Tippi Hedren's acting is always worth a laugh.
Petaluma (or, if you're good at making chicken sounds---Peta-LOOOO-ma) is a happening little town--I generally like what has happened there---it's not turning precious (at least not yet), but nearby traffic on highway 101 is taking its toll. Great eats, too, at fair prices.
That 57 Ford looks like the sedan they used a lot in old Broderick Crawford Highway Patrol shows. Sometimes it was an undercover, sometimes a perp, sometimes a victim.

we are getting the 3-5 predicted. though as of Friday morning, I think that was supposed to be a dusting at most. Front apparently shifted NW.
Yeh, freezing cold in Florida today as the cold front moves through...just a high of 60 and tomorrow only 59, Monday mid 60s and by Tuesday back into the seasonal average 70s for at least a week. The people are really complaining about our cold weather.........that Canada sent this way

Whoa! Get out the Range Rover with the "Safari" tire cover and the jerry cans--that driveway looks treacherous!
You haven't seen botched forecasts until you've lived in Seattle. The topography here makes weather prediction quite difficult, especially for snow and wind events.
Regarding mileage, this is the best I have noticed out of my E250, per the computer (I sometimes forget to check):
Of course, this is a 4cyl turbodiesel, but it does weigh 4100 lbs and is AWD, so not too shabby. I never do manual calculations, as I think pumps switch off at different amounts - one can easily put a half gallon or more in when it stops. I figure the computer might be off by 5%, still decent.

I used to enjoy cycling from Petaluma out to the coast. Nice town; why someone would live in Santa Rosa instead is beyond me.
Even my MINI can vary between 23 and 33 mpg. What really counts is your overall MPG over many tankfuls and under all conditions. Cut off the ears of the bell curve, so to speak.

Truth regarding weather forecasts in Seattle. Heck, it could be snowing or raining 3 miles north of me and be sunny at my house. I believe that's the convergence zone, yes?

No sympathy from me. It's up to 10 deg. F. here. High for the day. Only going down to 7 tonight and tomorrow is Florida weather at 20 deg. F for the high. But at least no snow. It could be worse, a lot worse. Blowing, drifting 10 deg and 20 mph winds.

If you fill at the same pump each time and average over 3 fillups, you'll be really close after that averages out variations in the fill level where the air bubble in the tank backs the gas (diesel) up the filler tube.
Exactly. The convergence zone is maybe the most discussed off phenomenon here. There was a good one a week ago - 5" of snow in many areas around Seatac, 1/2" 5 miles away.

What's that "white stuff" covering the lawn and the car and the roofs of the houses? Is that "Angel Dust" or something like it? Or could it be "white ash" from your local volcano? Sure is a dilemma for me - haven't seen anything like it! Do you get that stuff all over your neighborhood often? What's that stuff good for - can you use it for any specific reason?

That front you are talking about is just about over us right now - rain, wind, very cloudy. I better pull out my sweatshirts and jeans and put away my shorts and short sleeved Polo Shirts for a few days. I think we are expecting 50's during the night and 60's for the next few days. Those darn north-of-the-border people! Can't they keep that cold stuff up there where it belongs?
