My buddy picked up his Mustang today. He's sent me six emails about it so far.
Nice car but tell your buddy to wipe off the dried wax from the center of the drivers mirror. And don't tell me that's a reflection from the snow. I know what missed dried wax looks like. I've had plenty of dried wax spots over the years. :@
Looking again I think I see another miss on the right rear rocker panel.

Car looks great, most people don't have a wax fetish.
seems silly to pay for the onstar, if all you want is data. Much more likely you can just squeeze it in on your phone data plan. I set up my iphone to be a mobile hotspot, and it works great running my ipad or laptop through that. Using data I already am paying for!
So true. My son, alas, is a lifelong Bengals fan. But hey, it could be worse! There's always the Browns.
Congrats.....you've raised a very smart son.
True about mileage on 300+HP lux cars. Everything I've driven/owned in that segment of the market have surprised me (in a good way) with their frugality while still able to go 5-6 seconds 0-60.
I'm flying to San Francisco later today ... looks like I'll be landing in the middle of the biggest storm to hit CA in a decade. Luckily, most of the really bad weather will be up in the mountains - they are talking about 6 feet of snow or more in some areas, followed by rain, which could cause serious flooding.
Only a few inches of rain predicted for the Bay Area over the next few days.
Mike - do people in Florida even have the wardrobe to address temperatures that cold?
People in CA have been complaining about lack of rain for years. Like it was the end of the world. Now they're complaining about the rain. Hard to figure.
I can testify that people in Florida do have cold weather gear. A few years ago in Tampa when it was 45 they were running around in ski parkas.
We were in windbreakers.

That's funny, the Mustang picture reappeared in my last post unwanted by me. Also there is no edit allowed so I can't try to remove it. Gremlins in the system?

I love the wax job. I don't like the license plate holder. That would be off and replaced by nothing or by a plain holder to surround the license. If the dealer store wants to use the car I bought for advertising, I have a fee for that--ya' know, sort of like how they have document fees!
Once the license plate is on I never look at it again except to find my car at the mall. If they're giving me a free holder, fine by me!
Except the AutoNation Drive Pink license holders are really ugly. Good cause, but, I think the plan is to get you to spend another $40 to buy a normal one.
Now that could really ruin the looks of a nice red Mustang.

Where did you hear that prediction? The rain is heavier than that, so you may experience considerable delays unfortunately. But good luck, maybe you can sneak in under it.
Bradd, good timing on getting the snow tires. now you can report back on how big a difference they make!
Ironically enough, I was off from work. My wife is working all weekend. I took the Legacy & it's new snow shoes to my son's 6:50 am hockey practice. Roads were down to the blacktop. I came home as it started snowing, so my wife took the Legacy to work with her (2.5 or so miles away).
I had the 3 kids & the Pilot for the rest of the day. We stayed home most of the day. I worked on the boys' pinewood derby cars with them. Spent some time coloring with my daughter.
We were supposed to play a team from New Haven yesterday at our rink. They cancelled due to inclement weather. Not wanting to waste the ice time, my son's team called for a scrimmage. OK! Load em up in the Pilot & off we go. 6" of unplowed roads was nothing for the Pilot. It's 4WD system made hills coming home from the rink seem flat.
When we got home from the rink, my wife had just pulled in. I ordered dinner, hopped in the Legacy, and off I went. I felt the difference of the snow tires immediately. Take off out of my unplowed driveway was instantaneous & drama free. I detoured through some unplowed side streets, stopped in the middle of a hill, & took off again. The car is steady & surefooted around turns. They definitely drive like they are digging into the snow & not driving on top of it. I'm impressed.

Well, I've run into a snag. Due to issues elsewhere with Southwest's flight schedule, my flight to SFO this afternoon has been cancelled. Am on the phone currently with our travel providers to figure out an alternative.
What really frustrates me is that I'm meeting other members of my team in SFO this afternoon, and we would share a rental car to the hotel.
Looks like everyone may be on their own. Which is no fun for my co-worker flying in from the UK.

Sears is going to sell off Kenmore and DieHard brands.
To me, those brands have very little intrinsic value. They don't design or manufacture anything. DieHard batteries are Johnson Controls IIRC, and Kenmore applicances are all made by various other brand manufacturers. The value of the brands was due to Sears being everywhere, their reputation, and their willingness to stand behind them, all of which has now virtually disappeared.

That's my thinking exactly. The appliances used to be primarily Whirlpool relabels and the batteries, I believe, are now a mixture of brands, but they used to be primarily Johnson. These are all things consumers can purchase at box stores from Lowes to HHGregg for less money. Sears has wiped out their inceased value for those brand names by their loss of focus as to what they were really selling.

I am going to assume they brought their winter clothes from the "hinterlands" with them when they moved here, moths and all! When I was going downstairs to drive up to the mall this morning for my walk, I saw an old lady pushing a "walker" and she was wearing a Mink Coat and a babooshka around her head. I haven't seen a mink coat in 20 years or so and as for a babooshka, first time I saw one down here. All the clothes the people are wearing today can be "dated" back to the 60's and 70's. It's not like there are no places down here to buy warm clothing - Bloomingdales, Nordstroms, Macy's, Sears, Saks Fifth Avenue, and tons of other stores have all the warm weather gear one would need for cold spells - but these people have no intention of spending a penny on warm clothing. You should see the walking shorts these people wear in the warmer weather - red, orange, chartreuse, Kelly green, etc., and all of them sag because they are so baggy on them.
I have two or three sweaters, three sweatshirts, one pair of jeans, one pair of black slacks, and a leather jacket I bought up at Lake Arrowhead in California. That's it! I do have a Thermafor heating pad that I can always go to bed with if it really gets down into the 30's. But, luckily, these cold spells only last for 2-3 days before we are up in the high 70's and low 80's again.
Read the entire article - Lampert quotes and all. Runs Sears and its holdings from a secluded island off Miami where 86 billionaires live - all secured by armed guards and all. No wonder Sears is slowly dying in the ICU of Wall Street and Friends! Won't be much left to "bury" after its death, that's for sure!
I went back into Best Buy after my walk - got a surge protector, a Vizio Sound Bar, and I even got a Geek Squad 5 year protection plan on the TV and Sound Bar for $159.99. That's $40.00 a year after the Vizio 1-year warranty. At least if something goes wrong with anything, I can just call them up and have them come over and either repair or replace the components I bought. The Geek Squad has an excellent reputation - that's why I made the investment.

Why does video storage cost $100 a year? Is there much of a reason to store? How long can a loop last...1 or 2 days or 30 days? I have no idea!
Hi driver, not sure if somebody answered the question since I have a lot of posts, but here it goes.
$100 gets you 7 days storage. My outdoor camera uploads about 20 GB per day. So 140 GB per week, but it's more than the storage.
It's also the capability to go back and search the footage, you get alerts, you can set up specific zone alerts (highlight a door, ignore the doggie door,) create time lapse videos, etc.
The point is that you pay for more than just the storage. Additional cameras are only $50/year.
Southwest flies lots of hops and planes can often cover a chunk of the country in a day, so I suppose they may be a bit more prone to weather somewhere else because of more destinations during the day for each aircraft. But they are also often more accommodating than the legacy 3 when stuff happens (and you don't have to talk to India or the Philippines either).

Just says "light rain", fog/mist and wind from the south at 29 knots, gusting to 45 knots, decreasing at 4 pm PST
Oakland tends to have fewer weather impacts than SFO. San Jose is another alternative, but it often isn't a pleasant drive north. Winds matter more if they are crosswinds, or worse - shear.
Traffic map looks pretty fouled up---Hwy 101 around Palo Alto is stacked. San Jose might not be a bad idea. At least it's Sunday. I'd hate to see this on a commute day.
I've got a creek off my back deck that presently looks like the headwaters of the Nile. There are like...trees floating past me. Fortunately, the bank opposite me is lower

Correct. I've landed into Seattle with sustained winds north of 30 no problem. But gusty crosswinds of far less have forced us to go around.

I allow the dealer to put those plate holder/ad on my cars with a guarentee thst they won't put one of thise stupid stickers on the trunk. I actually had to make one dealer scrape one off. With the plate holder I can always remove it later if I get mad at them.
I take off the dealer's license plate holder as soon as I get home. I don't do free advertising.

I hate front license plates. It's a law here in Texas, but there was some snag for a few years where the police couldn't ticket for it so they didn't bother with you. Then it was corrected so now they can pull you over for no front plate but most times it's a warning. Yet in OK just 50 miles north of me front plates aren't required. I don't buy the crap reason that front plates are needed for identification when several states don't require one. And doesn't it make more sense economically to only print one plate per car?
Most cars in Texas are sold with the front bracket already drilled in. Drivers of higher end makes and sports cars usually roll the dice with no front plate and the dealers are wise to that so they don't drill. They realize that could mean no sale to some buyers. Both of my Mustangs were delivered with the bracket in the trunk. I got by for more than 3 years on the 2011 until my wife was pulled over by DPS on the way back from Houston one day. She read me the riot act over that so I drilled the holes that night (killed me to do it). When I got her the 2015 and tried my luck again without telling her as she never noticed. Until, that is, she got pulled over again and given another warning. This time it only took about 2 months and was a city cop where she works, at night, and he turned around to go get her for it. Ridiculous, but out came the drill again. I had actually been researching one of those flip down holders operated via dash-mounted switch but ran out of time and the wife had some choice words for me that set the tone for the plate going on immediately.
I've only been pulled over once in over 16 years in my Trans Am for no plate and it's still not on there, but I only drive that car 2-3K per year anyway. No ticket, but for some reason I get left alone. My daughter's new Optima spends 75% of the year in OK so even though the bracket was already drilled on I just put an "OSU" designer plate on there. So far, so good.

Those AutoNation plate frames are obnoxious looking. Pink is not a color that goes with any exterior color of any car with the exception of Mary Kay vehicle owners.
Luckily, the BMW dealership where I bought my car was kind enough to take off their black plastic plate frame with their dealer name advertised and replace it with a chrome BMW plate frame. Down here in Florida, we only display license plates on the rear of the car.
There has to be a logical reason as to why some states like New York and California require front and rear license plates (we call them "tags" down here). We go to "tag" agencies to renew our "tags" or acquire handicap parking placards.
why the big fuss about a front plate? As long as the car is designed to have a place for one. Maybe on a Ferrari it could be an issue!
I am near PA, and they don't have a front plate (but we do in Jersey). So cars there usually come with the bracket (factory delivered) in the trunk. Which was a problem for me, because I forgot to look and they forgot to put it on. So when the plates arrived in the mail, I had to decide between a long drive to the dealer, or pulling out tools. I got brave, and got tools. Easy job though. Had slots to line it up, so impossible to get on crooked. and even said what drill bit to use.
and once it is on, never coming off, so the holes don't matter to me.
a side benefit to a front plate? Acts like a bumper protector. small parking lot taps get absorbed by the bracket or plate, and the expensive fascia doesn't get broken.

Same reason, as most of the world - ability to identify from both front and back. The question can be reversed - why Florida and several other places require tags only in the back?

I heard that FL doesn't use front plates because that makes it a lot easier to spot people from out-of-state because they have those front plates as they approach the police car hiding behind the billboard. Then they can suddenly see the radar unit says they're speeding and stop them for a ticket. It works the same way a lot of small town cops here can't see any traffic violations done by residents of the village because they know their cars.
I like the out of state ticket revenue theory about front plates, at least in places like the south where speed traps are a real revenue stream.
Front plates have been mandatory in WA since the dawn of time, but I see endless high end vehicles on the eastside suburbs of Seattle without them. Exotics and especially Teslas seem to be the most frequent sightings - I suspect as some element of the enforcement of such laws is based on the wealth of the offender, if you can lay down the money for a Model X (which I seldom see with a front plate), you are immune. In the 21st century socio-economic reality, this makes sense.
I like the out of state ticket revenue theory about front plates, at least in places like the south where speed traps are a real revenue stream.
Ohio requires a front plate and many have tried to trivialize not having the place showing. In Cincy, the UC campus police were told to patrol around the campus because of huge problems with crime off-campus from the civilians of the city targeting the college youth. A cop saw a questionable car with no front plate, ran the plate and found it came back to an owner with DL suspended. Stopped vehicle and found an uncooperative goofus with roughly 50 brushes with law on his record. After a lot of shucking and jiving, the perp started to drive away instead of exiting the car and instead of turning off the car as ordered. Policeman had reached over for the key as the driver accelerated and was bumped by the car as it moved and shot the driver.
So the mantra became that the police shot the driver for no front license plate instead of the police shot the driver who refused to exit and started moving car with wheels cut left to miss the parked car in front of him. Oh, perp had a kilo of weed and $2700 cash in the car. First trial was a mistrial.
The front plate issue has been made into a trivial law breaking violation by some of the whiners. But the joke in our area was that we wonder which car they put the other of the two license plates on when it's not on the front of a car here. You get 2 for 1 when you pay your $35 registration fee. LOL
In actuality, cars with out-of-state plates are seen by police and state troopers as "guests" to our fair state and are to be considered as "hands off" so as to not offend the tourists. Tourism is our number one state income source and we sure don't want to bite the hand that feeds us - do we?

True about mileage on 300+HP lux cars. Everything I've driven/owned in that segment of the market have surprised me (in a good way) with their frugality while still able to go 5-6 seconds 0-60.
I can testify that people in Florida do have cold weather gear. A few years ago in Tampa when it was 45 they were running around in ski parkas.
We were in windbreakers.

I don't like the license plate holder. That would be off and replaced by nothing or by a plain holder to surround the license. If the dealer store wants to use the car I bought for advertising, I have a fee for that--ya' know, sort of like how they have document fees!

Reminds me of what ATT did to NCR (a Dayton company since birth) by selling off their land holdings world-wide to take out the money.

What really frustrates me is that I'm meeting other members of my team in SFO this afternoon, and we would share a rental car to the hotel.
Looks like everyone may be on their own. Which is no fun for my co-worker flying in from the UK.

You know how it goes---planes flying into an airline's hub are delayed, so there are no planes to fly out of the hub.
They should cancel the meeting until at least Wednesday.

"Mike - do people in Florida even have the wardrobe to address temperatures that cold?"

Just checked---all flights into Oakland listed as "delayed" but some only 1/2 hour or 1 hour. Weather is nasty but not impossible in Oakland. Winds around 30 mph, visibility pretty good, raining.
Just says "light rain", fog/mist and wind from the south at 29 knots, gusting to 45 knots, decreasing at 4 pm PST
I've got a creek off my back deck that presently looks like the headwaters of the Nile. There are like...trees floating past me. Fortunately, the bank opposite me is lower
Luckily, dealer sticklers are not a thing, except for Carmax.

The CEO sounds like a total tool with more money than ability.
that blew up. We had it down to a choice between GE and Maytag but the salesman recommended against the GE.
