Since they are drilling into concrete, I expect lots of noise and lots of mess. Luckily I have my cleaning girls coming this afternoon.
If the Greek Squad does it right, they'll clean up before they leave, and it will be cleaner than when they got there with everything back it its same exact place. The noise they can't do anything about but it will end when they leave. The actual drilling won't take long because they'll have the right tool and bit to chew into the concrete.
Well, he installed everything and when he left, everything was working fine. I turned off the TV to go have some lunch and when I came back and turned on the TV again, the sound bar was not working, only the TV sound was working. So I called Geek Squad back and they said the original installer is supposed to call me back. That was over two hours ago, no call back. I am very unhappy - very, very disappointed!
Not trying to insult your TV turning on intelligence but just a guess here. If you turned the TV on via the cable remote you could have turned the sound bar off. I've seen this happen more than once. If so you will have to sync the TV and sound bar to come on with one button.
EDIT: I see now that @graphicguy gave some similar advice. This should teach me to read through all posts before giving advice but I wanted to get back to you ASAP. That is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

called VIZIO tech suppprt. A nice young lady had the problem diagnosed in 3 minutes. She walked me through the set up again and PRESTO - everything is working great. I feel like my bedroom is a theater.
Good for you. Maybe you can help me with my landline and DSL from Frontier. When it rains in cold weather, we get crackling on voice and no dial tone and internet that goes in and out. It's out at the wrong times. I've tried yelling at them when I called 7 days after the first call for service. They said they'd get out here within 8 days. Yikes. I called back today and got it escalated.
Probably an issue at the outside junction box. Possibly a loose connection.

My Geek Squad folks came out, set up a new modem and router, set up everything so it works correctly, and I now can finally access Amazon Prime and all the other internet goodies on my new Samsung TV. It would have been so much easier if the cable TV and internet provider hadn't been incompetent (either that or they provided false information).
lol. Remember, he saw the light and drives a Toyota now.
The real question is how did Isell get back? Did he reboot his computer? Turn off his caps lock key? Have the 12 year old next door log in for him?
It was Russian hackers.
Or at least we'll blame the Russians for hacking the private business. If it were really the Russians, I suspect there would be _no_ telltales left behind--in reality they might leave telltales pointing to someone else. False clues. Of course, no one was interested in the hacking of government machines for the last decade, including when the personal info of a few government workers, was it millions, were taken, was that in 2014? All of a sudden hacking is news. Hmmmmm. Gimme a break.
Probably an issue at the outside junction box. Possibly a loose connection.
When it's colder weather and there's rain, it has acted up most years. When we had Cincinnati Bell service using the Frontier lines, repairmen said there's a wet area for the lines between the switch building and here (less than 1 miles). So something affects the connection so you're spot on.

On my landline when I get crackling it's usually critters chewing on wires somewhere. the phone company keeps claiming it's my equipment but I know better. They always end up fixing the outside wire for free.

The VIZIO TV comes with a 6" tablet that is used to program and set up WiFi, Netflix, and dozens of other things including the internet. Right now, I just want it as a TV for cable TV. I am not interested, at the moment, in connecting to anything else. I'll just store the tablet in its cradle . It charges itself wirelessly in its cradle. If I decide on expanding my viewing capabilities in the future, it's right there in that tablet.
Everything is is now controlled by my cable remote. I like simplicity - I have enough complexity in my life every time I get in my new car and have to figure out all the technology. So my key word for my new TV set up is relaxing SIMPLICITY.
I can sure tell you I don't know why I waited so long to put in a large screen HDTV. I'm in heaven!!!
Fortunately my TV comes with all those apps so all I have to do is click on them, put in the password the first time, and I'm off. We already have Amazon Prime for buying stuff so we might as well take advantage of it for movies and TV shows too. And I believe streaming services have more 4K content available than our cable company does. I'm all about simplicity too!

You need a driver in your car so you can sit back and figure out how the darn thing works with all the technology.
the tablet remote on the TV sounds like a good idea. Trying to enter IDs and PWs for web sites on a standard remote is horrible. I ended up downloading an LG app to my ipad to be able to do it.
IMO Honda definitely dodged a credibility-destroying bullet when it comes to the glass transmissions in V6 models around the turn of the century. Several years were amazingly problematic, and most of them still on the road have almost definitely already had a replacement/rebuild. Toyota sludge and Hyunkia engine failure have also been mostly ignored.
GM is a giant, so it will be denigrated. Kind of like how America-bashing has been in vogue for so long, and the same can apply for Russia-bashing and maybe even China-bashing now. There might be some legit reasons for it, but it can be out of proportion.
Regarding politics, there are as many sore winners as sore losers out there. People need to step back and realize how little their say matters.

The tablet is pretty ingenious. Our new 55" Samsung just has a simple remote with about 4 buttons on it. A lot of fiddlnig around to change channels or something....I just use it to turn up the volume and turn the TV on and off. One day i will take some time and sync the cable remote.
But SIMPLICITY. That's what I have been saying about the joy of the C250. Get in press the ON button and drive. No warning beepers, no voices yelling at you, no lights flashing, no ON/OFF feature, no hidden cameras, just enjoy the delight of a nice handling car. The car is just basic and honest with no gimmicks.
Speaking of honesty reminds me of this quote, from the great philosopher Grouch Marx;
"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made."
probably about time for GG to speak to the manager over there, and ask for an honest answer about when the part is actually supposed to arrive. And if the answer is "who the hell knows", what the possible options here are.
Or just consider the CT6 to be his car, and forget the CTS even exists!
On a much smaller dollar note I had a similar issue with a Jenn Air range. All the digital buttons on the right side stopped working. So anything on that side -- say "oven clean" or any numerals from 6 through 9 and 0-- you couldn't use. It was under warranty so I was told they would order a new console module. Only Maytag, who owns Jenn Air, was only making them in small quantities and sometimes stopped making them altogether! It took THREE MONTHS for this part to arrive, and then another month to set up an appointment (because of staff cutbacks). All for a part under warranty! We got very creative at setting oven temperatures and the timer -- 411 for 400, say, or 351. At least we could still use the unit whereas poor old GG can't even drive his own car.

well, with the range, it would actually be like they gave you a higher line model to use for a few months while they waited for the parts!
GG, if they are giving you a nudge, might as well. you already know the drill. But this time, just take cash, not another car! Though that could be interesting. What would they even pay you, since this was a replacement for another lemon?
Or underdone. It was pretty frustrating. But back to GG's Caddy-- I'll bet something similar is going on where they are only making a few of the needed part. Penny wise and pound foolish.
How about a flashback to stories from Sales from Lines? A non sales story. Last week my best friend's Dad gets a call from the Jeep dealership he leased his 2016 Grand Cherokee Overland from.
"Hi! Mr. ---? It's Sally from Rockland Jeep. The reason for my call is that used vehicles like your Grand Cherokee Overland are in very high demand right now. We can get you into a 2017 model for less than you are paying now most likely."
"Sally. You seem like a nice person, but I don't have time to BS. My car is 8 months old and has less than 10,000 miles. I like it and it is literally in perfect shape. How is it possible that you can get me out of the lease after only 8 months."
"Sir, we have special programs..."
"I'm currently paying $570 per month with $0 Down. I'm literally not willing to pay one cent more. If you can do this, then I'll make an appointment to come down there."
"I assure you sir that we are very serious about this. We can do what you requested."
He gets the manager on the phone. The manager yeses him to death. He makes an appointment for Saturday. Saturday comes. It's snowing, but the roads are decent. He goes to the Jeep dealer.
"Ok sir. We've got a 2017 Grand Cherokee Overland with the exact colors and options as yours. The monthly payment comes to $720."
He's livid at this point. I don't get it. I understand the fishing phone calls to drum up business, but to PO a customer like that and lie to him is just unreal.

Thanks for the kind words on the death of my friend's son. I knew him pretty well since we spent every weekday together 7 years ago when I built my house. While he was in his upper 30's, he was very immature and reckless. I found out yesterday that he also had a car accident on New Years Eve and had a head injury in that one. Due to the nature of the accident, the medical examiner ordered an autopsy, so no news on a funeral yet. That's pretty hard on his dad. I am pretty sure that at the very least they will find pot in his system as he didn't hide the fact that he smoked it. Oh well, still sad.

NEWS: GM is recalling certain 2016 Cadillac CT6 vehicles; SEAT BELTS Report Receipt Date: SEP 23, 2016 NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V687000 Component(s): SEAT BELTS Potential Number of Units Affected: 131
SEPTEMBER 2016 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016 Cadillac CT6 vehicles manufactured July 21, 2016, to July 22, 2016. The bolt that connects the front passenger seat belt webbing to the seat's anchor plate may be missing. Without the bolt, the seat belt webbing may detach from the seat anchor. If the seat belt webbing detaches from the seat anchor, the seat belt may not properly restrain the front seat passenger in the event of a crash

Some people never learn. If I were him, I'd write a letter to the owner, describing that and promising I'd make my mission to tell the story to anyone who wants to listen.
At this point I would just keep driving their car. And trade yours in as soon (if?) you get it back. So start browsing!
I know we asked this before but how long before the lemon law kicks in on this car?
Coincidentally, Caddy service Manager called earlier just to tell me they had no info on when the parts would arrive as they're still on back order.
He was empathetic. Said if i needed him to fill out paperwork, he'd be glad to do it.....sort of like he's encouraging me to take the obvious route.
GG, Would you go through the lemon process again? It would be tempting....or is it better to wait, get the car back and trade it in? What are you thinking? Surprised the manager is giving in so fast, he must be fed up too!
No matter how good the reviews, how big the promises, why would I take the risk of buying a Cadillac when my BMWs and MBs have all performed well, without a problem of that magnitude?

Yeh NYC, why aggravate a happy customer?
Unfortunately, I've seen it happen too often, also.
Funny related story, I was in Chicago between Christmas and New Years with my son visiting relatives and friends. Stayed downtown as that's where all the restaurants, entertainment and shopping is.
While not really the best use of my frequent flyer miles, I have a ton of them, and it costs $60-$70 a day to park at the hotel. We flew and used Uber to get around.
First UBER driver we had said he used to sell cars (Nissans, to be exact). Did that for 4 years and decided to get out of the biz stating the hours were terrible (70 hours/week, sometimes) and the stress came from both sides....management and the customers. Said he made good money but was miserable as a person. So, he quit to drive UBER full time. He took a big income hit, but was only working 40-50 hours/week, and he picked his own hours. Also, a LOT LESS STRESS!
Anyway, being interested in his career path, I asked him what the #1 rule to sell cars was. He was quick and simple in his answer...."get them in the showroom and don't let them leave until they've bought something".
He expounded on that a little bit....stating it's easier to get a former buyer of your brand into the showroom than it is to get a new buyer. His dealership ran all sorts of promotions (Bradd mentioned just one) to get you in the showroom.
He also mentioned that the payment can be twisted in any of a number of ways to get close to the buyer's desire.
I asked him the toughest sell.......straight deal, no financing. It's only the purchase price as the number at that point.
Talked to him for about 40 minutes going from O'Hare to around the Water Tower. He was probably mid-20s. Engaging personality. I told him to not give up on sales. Maybe cars weren't in his career path, but maybe another good or service would be better.

I bought a new LG washer (hi-efficiency front-loader) and matching dryer in mid-2010 when my 1980s versions finally gave up the ghost. Was quite happy with them until a few months ago when the number display (basically a time indicator) on the washer crapped out. It was, coincidentally, after a power outage, so maybe a surge was involved.
Whatever, I figured I would spend the money and get a new control board. Even watched YouTube vids on how to do it which made it seem not very hard. Only problem: the part is no longer available from LG and there is no stock anywhere I checked. This on what was then a 6 year-old appliance! LG corporate in Canada was no help. Unreal.
I agree with the former sales guy who is now a uber driver. Whatever it takes to get the customer into the dealership. I think the managers tell sales people to call all clients. My son recent returned his leased vehicle. The dealership he returned it to is still calling him asking when he is going to return his vehicle and they have a SPECIAL DEAL for him.

Stick....I think I'm calmer this time around. I was really PO'd on the other one, as the dealer was pretty shady in how they treated me. This dealer has been quite accomodating.
As I mentioned, it's really humorous all the experiences I've had with Cadillac as a brand. Only, the joke has been on me.
Good question about how many other CTS's were afflicted by the same recall. Was it a whole production run from 2016? Or, was it a very limited production run? I would think it was limited given there really hasn't been any press on it that I'm aware of. Dealer didn't say he had 5-10-75 2016 CTS's in his shop with the same issue. I would imagine that would back them up quite a bit.
He did say that the wiring, the harness and the mounting hardware had failed on mine, to the point where the wiring was so close to the exhaust manifold that the insulation had melted on a couple of wires and the other two wires had been chafed by rubbing against the drive shaft. I can't really picture how that happened without me feeling something. But, apparently that's the issue.
If the production run was very limited when they caught the problem, I can see where a new design and production of the new parts to alleviate the issue might be pretty low on their priority list. That doesn't help me, though.
Not really sure which way I'll go with this. I know the drill, all too well. Do I want to go through that, again? Maybe. I do feel a bit snake bit by Cadillac and would be happy to wash my hands of the brand. But, when their vehicles are working properly, they match up well to anything I've ever driven (and I've driven some very nice cars from all sorts of brands).
I'm headed San Antonio all next week for work. We'll see if anything happens while I'm gone.
After 6 years of non-ownership I still get personalized mailings from both the selling dealer and the dealer that I went to for service that identify the '08 HHR that I had for about a year. Some are about service specials, others encouraging me with a new car special and they are going to give be big bucks for the HHR. I have let both dealers know multiple times I no longer have the car. I even get mailings stating that the ignition recall was still outstanding. Again I have let them know and to no avail. Since I still get recall notices, I wonder if that HHR is still being driven or if it has ended up in a junk yard and perhaps already recycled.

Once on a mailing list, even after you pass away, mailings to your name will continue. I still get loads of mailing addressed to my Dad and he's been gone 19 months.
Cruise lines bother the cr-p out of me. I've tried opting out of their emails and mailings, but I just gave up. I've never been on a cruise and have no plans to ever go on a cruise with my ailments. What a waste of paper - but it keeps the USPS moving the mail.
@abacomike If you're in discomfort as you've described from the tightness of the surgery and on various medications, I'd consider some forgetfulness a minor thing. Look up the medications on google and use some of the side effects of the lists for the drugs to see if any may cause loss of short term memory. There probably is a medical term for it, so look up some of the side effect description words to see if that's what they mean.
If you forget for a few seconds which floor your condo is on when you get in the elevator, that's a little more. Or you forget where you are driving to after a couple of blocks from home. Or you forget where the kitchen is in the condo.
A year is what I was told after my surgery, 6 mos to a year, and it was much less intensive than your surgery. And the relapse is important because it affects your condition.
Thanks for your insight, imid, it is much appreciated. I guess that's why my primary care physician said I was a very lucky human being to be alive after what I went through. I know the doctors told my brother at the time of the surgery that I might not make it through post-op - it was a very risky surgical procedure. My brother and I did not communicate frequently prior to this - now we talk every day - he is always concerned about me. I appreciate this happening to me just for the opportunity to regain communications with my twin brother.
My Honda dealer still has my email linked to my old accord. So I get service notices for it, but addressed to Elizabeth (the lady that bought it 5 years ago!)

At least my dealer only sent me on occasions emails (followed by USPS same letters) invitations to their "special private sales", sometimes personalized with a vehicle at what appears to be higher than market price and marked-up interest rate (the disclaimer still says it's for super-dooper top credit). . After a few of those I requested to be removed - automated unsubscribe did not work, but when sent and email, I got a polite acknowledgment with a promise not to send me their junk. Will see. So far couple of months without it.
He also mentioned that the payment can be twisted in any of a number of ways to get close to the buyer's desire.
I asked him the toughest sell.......straight deal, no financing. It's only the purchase price as the number at that point.
What an outrageous concept - tell people how much it will really cost them Seems like those mainstream brand dealers specialize in obfuscation of the real cost. It's their business model - make you believe you're paying less than you really are. I can't stand it. Those screamer ads saying YOU PAY X with an asterisk of 4 grand trade or cash (which is of course paid by the Santa Claus, I suppose), all that "per month" crap that I just can't take sometimes. Seems like people simply want to be lied to. If they didn't, those businesses wouldn't exist and fluorish.
BTW, the place this young man describes would most likely be last place I'd want to buy something. If I only smell an attitude of "don't let them leave until they buy something", I run faster than light.
lol. Remember, he saw the light and drives a Toyota now.
The real question is how did Isell get back? Did he reboot his computer? Turn off his caps lock key? Have the 12 year old next door log in for him?
It was Russian hackers.
Funny guy. In addition to my Avalon, we do have a new EXL CRV and I'm looing to pick up another Jeep Grand Cherokee for our "extra" car since we gave our much loved 2003 CRV to our son. The Avalon is nice and it drives like a ten year old Buick. Whenever I see another one I'm pleased that I'm usually a decade younger than the other driver. I don't know how I got my identity back but I am so happy! Now when I get the thirteen staples pulled out of my head tomorrow I'll be even happier....don't ask!

Speaking of honesty reminds me of this quote, from the great philosopher Grouch Marx;
"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made."

GG, if they are giving you a nudge, might as well. you already know the drill. But this time, just take cash, not another car! Though that could be interesting. What would they even pay you, since this was a replacement for another lemon?

Or you could ask them for another Tahoe?
"Hi! Mr.

Unreal.

Cruise lines bother the cr-p out of me. I've tried opting out of their emails and mailings, but I just gave up. I've never been on a cruise and have no plans to ever go on a cruise with my ailments. What a waste of paper - but it keeps the USPS moving the mail.
