    @imidazol97

I have not held back on any defect or issue I've had with any car I've owned.  Think back imid
I wasn't clear enough that I was NOT talking about anyone in this forum or even recently about problems. In fact, most here are fairly realistic. I was talking about during the 90s, 00s, when I was shopping Accords and Camrys as an alternative to the Buicks I had been driving. The Accords, the bathtub style I call it, that came out in 2003? had some driveability issues in some vehicles and had creaking in the A-pillars, popping. The exemplar I drove had all of that. Along with frequent transmission problems that was enough to convince me I didn't like it as a ride. Careful reading showed that problems happened, but if Honda covered it under warranty, people acted as though there had never been a problem. "I've never had any trouble with my XXX model." Then along came toyota with their sludging, er excuse me, gel problems. Then the unintended acceleration problems. And from various companies many others I've learned of. So the few things that needed maintenance on my Buicks looked about average. Even Macabee talked on the forum about the sludge. If you were reading in various forums when someone mentioned these problems they were met with strong resistance from several of the people who were on the forums, some on Edmunds. They were called trolls. They were told they didn't actually own the car or that they were just making up the story. I was a lurker in most but the psychology was interesting to watch. Even today, I listen to the radio mechanics and pick up references to known problems about cars which they and their callers believe are "perfect." Most recent was that a Honda line had problems blowing head gaskets from the 07-09 period loosely recalling. He commented that they had fixed a certain number of those in his shop in the past few weeks. (GG may know the shop on Ridge that has a talkshow.) Even this morning, the Columbus station has a sponsor, Ohio Lemon Law, and they give problems occurring like a Volvo with X?90 in its label that has backup camera problems. They of course are phishing for clients for individual suits rather than class action suits. As for GG's problem, I recall being somewhat patient for a couple of weeks. Then as I learned more about the extent of the burning plastic in his car and time dragged on, I changed to replace or compensate. I had my Cobalt front end gone over and several things done at the local Chev store last summer. I got a call every other day about what they were replacing or looking at to evaluate for a noise that was one thing I asked to be fixed, if possible. (Turned out it was a headlight). BTW, the headlight is held with 2 bolts and requires wiggling to bring out forward for bulb replacement. About 5 minutes if you've done it before. I actually replaced both units with new ones because the old plastic was dirty inside from condensate holding dust to the inside. I know I'm over 200 words, but I hope everyone has read.
My apologies, imid.  I must have read your post incorrectly.   :o

WOW! It's one thing for a manufacturer to have build, engineering, etc problems. It's quite another to put the customer through all sort of irritating gyrations when the product is under warranty and Cadillac acts like owners have no right to expect something they paid good money for to operate as it was intended.

I don't get it. I really don't. For all the brouhaha Cadillac has been stirring up about their new products, their new advertising, their move away from Detroit (presumably to get away from the typical GM morass), they still don't get it.

The stuff that's happening is straight out of the '70s, '80s and '90s GM malaise periods. It's like they haven't learned one thing.

Come on. Did you even read the thread? Cadillac is replacing the car.

I know you have to make your situation look the best it can, but hyperbole doesn't help.

GG, on about page 3 it sounds like the dealer was going to replace the car when a new one comes in. It sounds like the dealer knows there is a problem with the car, but since it only has 26 miles on it they can take it back as a demo or something and sell it again...once it is fixed up. Probably write offs involved too as it may be a bit of a loss for the dealer.

The last sentence the guy wrote when offered the replacement was that Cadillac/GM customer service did nothing for him....but, he felt the dealer really worked with him.

I think the fact the car only had 26 miles on it, and that the dealer was a conscientious one, helped the situation. This problem was resolved quickly by the dealer, but not Cadillac.

Dealers do not do buybacks generally. Especially when it is a manufacturing defect as this is with the grenading Corvette engines. Serves Cadillac right for using a Chevy motor. ;)

The original poster was barely literate so I would not read too much into what you think he means. He wrote that GM is replacing the car. He said in the end that he thought the dealer was helpful - the same dealer that supposedly replaced a bent pushrod in a couple of hours and said it was all good, a highly dubious story and a very questionable service practice if they didn't try to figure out why that occurred in the first place. It is easy for a dealer to blame someone else for their ineptitude since the manufacturer is not there on-site to rebut it.

I went out for dinner last night at NYY Steakhouse at the casino.  Food was excellent as always.  Had a 10 oz. filet mignon and a Caesar salad - nothing else.

My usual waiter told me he had just bought a black on black Cadillac CTS.  He said he loves it.  It's the 3.6 turbo - MSRP was in the mid to high $50,000 range according to him.  He's had it for 2-weeks and has over 1000 miles on it already.  He said it's the nicest car he's ever owned.

I did not ask him what kind of deal he got, but he said it was the best price of the three dealerships he visited.  I wished him luck and great motoring.

Good to hear some positive responses from a new Cadillac owner.  ;)

I understand NJ has quite a few great diners not any that I know of in the Burgh anymore.

Just went out for breakfast with Mrs. j this morning at of all places a sports bar that is very close to us (less than 2 miles). We have gone to this place for years and it has a pretty good rep. I like their Philly cheese steak sandwich which is loaded with beef. About 2 years ago they decided to start serving breakfast and the place is just as jammed now for breakfast as they are for dinner.

Just today at breakfast I saw their new menu. It wasn't really new, same stuff just higher prices now. I can't remember the last time they increased their prices. I think my loaded omelet with home fries and toast went up about a buck.

I'd much rather them raise their prices a little than to cut back on quality or serve smaller than expected portions. I have seen where that puts places out of business. Nice to know that the business philosophy at this place pretty much insures they will be around for at least another 30 years.

Now this is more like the size of my posts, right? :p

I remember when I visited New England & NY state on vacation with my parents in the '70s with the annual car vacation, they often liked to stop at a chain called Sambo's, which I seem to recall was similar to a Denny's. I am guessing that is no more. One thing I do remember is that they served pancakes with cooked bacon strips dropped into the middle of the batter which I quite liked.

oh, that brings back memories. I went to college in upstate NY (many years ago), and a block off campus was a Sambos. Much of their business was drunk college kids at 3 AM. I still feel bad for those poor waitresses. And yes, it was basically a Denny's. Nothing like 3 AM Eggs and Cakes!

and it was a politically incorrect as it sounds. before I graduated they changed to name to IIRC "Sams" and cleaned up the signage. Pretty sure the whole chain is long gone though.

The place is Cotardos.  It is right off 42 in Blackwood (Kmart shopping center for a little while longer it's in liquidation). They have been there for over 30 years and I've been going there since I was a kid.

Did a little research on Sambo's. At one time they had over 1100 locations in 47 states. Started in 1957 in Santa Barbara Ca. It was very successful until mid 70's when all their legal troubles started. Finally in early 80's declared bankruptcy. The 2 guys who started the chain were nice guys and not racists. Made the name up from letters in both their names, but did try to use the name for success.

The original Sambo's in Santa Barbara is still there and open for business. It is owned by a grandson of one of the founders. Only one left.

How Klaus hated that car to the point he would almost refuse to work on it!

I'm not sure of the year hers was, but my Mom had a Beetle with the A/C and the clutchless manual transmission. She always said she loved that car.
Wow, dealer installed air conditioning AND one of those miserable Auto Sticks? I'll bet a dog could outrun that in a quarter mile. If anyone here has never driven an Auto Stick you should! That is IF any have survived!

You are welcome to eat at Denny's. The only time in the last 3 years I ate at Denny's was when my Dad was alive and my brother was in town. We went there for breakfast. The eggs were cold, the toast was cold, the bacon was as hard as rebar and the coffee tasted like dishwater. We sent the breakfasts back once, and the second serving was as bad as the first serving - so we went a diner close by and it was great.

So eat to your heart's delight, driver - but I wouldn't set foot into a Denny's if my life depended on it. Well, maybe if my life depended on it - but for no other reason! :@

Outback is another name for a Denny's that has been remodeled, but the food stays the same. I've been to Outback several times, and each time I went, the steak was tough, the potatoes cold and undercooked and the screaming kids (their parents choose not to control their children and teach them good dining habits) drove me nuts. :'(

Same with me on Outback. We occasionally go when we have a coupon and it is convenient. Then we find it woefully underwhelming and say we won't be going back. I also have sworn off ever going to Applebee's again. But that is personal...

Ruth's Chris is actually less expensive than NYY Steakhouse. But when I order a filet mignon at NYY and a salad like I had last night, I know it will always be perfect. I also love their New York Style pretzels, nicely salted, as their bread service. They are truly superb. I could easily sit there and have their pretzels (soft and hot loaded with salt) and a few iced teas and be in heaven. B)

They have BYOB at many restaurants here, but there is a corking charge of $25 usually. My brother does that all the time. He brings a couple of bottles of wine from home when he takes me out for dinner up at his place. He is more than willing to pay the $35 corking charge per bottle in that Ruth's Chris charges over $200 per bottle for what he has at home and has shipped from Napa Valley and he only pays half that amount.

We were at the Outback last week and we won't be back. Prime rib was a tough as a wallet! Medium rare too! Lousy service etc. such an inconsistent place. this did it for us!
That is not at all like the one near us nor any that I have ever gone to. Probably 6 or 7 over the years and the first one we went to was in Augusta GA when lived in SC. I'll never forget the line up for that place when we came out. I asked a guy at about at the 30 foot mark what the wait was and he said, "about 1 hour and 30 minutes".

Like I said I like the place but I won't wait half that long for any restaurant. When I'm hungry, I want to eat. :@

I was just watching a movie on Showtime with Anton Yelchin where he plays a down-on-his-luck writer who has not yet been published. He meets this married French woman, falls in love, and has an affair with her. I won't get into any more details as I STRONGLY recommend this movie to you. I think it's titled "5 to 7".

When I think about this young man and his outstanding acting ability whose life was ended by a car crushing him into the wall by his home, I get teary-eyed. He was definitely destined to become a great star. In the prime of his life, he is cut down by his own car. I wonder whatever became of the investigation into his death - whether the authorities feel it was the car he had that slipped out of gear or not.

If it was the auto manufacturer's fault (which I understand could very well be), the family of Anton Yelchin could sue for millions upon millions of dollars based upon his expected earnings. What a shame!!! :'(

I also have sworn off ever going to Applebee's again. But that is personal...

About 10 years ago an Applebee's opened not too far from my work, the first in the region. I gave it 3 chances and each time the food was terrible, mostly just cheese, grease and salt. It tasted like airline food back when airlines served food. I could not understand their success. The place here only lasted 2-3 years before shutting down. I don't understand that chain's success.

oh, that brings back memories.

I think some of the Sambo's were bought out by Denny's. In the mid 70s I was working for an anti poverty agency run buy a snooty rich woman who looked down on poor people and the employees. One day as she was instructing the employees she declared "Sambo's is racist and I don't want any of you eating there". My black colleague and I looked at each other and I asked her if she had a problem with the place. She said "of course not". We went for lunch.

Yes, in the research it said several stores were sold in the 70's, but not who bought them. I too, seem to recall that Denny's bought several of them.

It's clear that I don't deserve to touch the hem of the garments of those who post here with such taste -- you know, those who can feel the pea through the mattress.

    I bow.

Oh, was it ever. The internet probably/possibly will tell those who care about the story of little (fill in the blank) Sambo, but that was then and this is now. OTOH, maybe all reference to it has been relegated to the intergalactic bit bucket -- PC and all that.

We had one in Tempe, and at the time (1968) it was all that was open past midnight. Spent quite a bit of time there.

In defense of Denny's, I do have to say they vary to a great degree, but, the one near us happens to have a good chef and a friendly efficient staff. We don't go there for a big night out, but, if we just want to get out and just aren't up to fine dining, Denny's is fine. It is hard to find low cal healthy food when dining out, and I like the way their menu has calorie counts, bourbon chicken coming in at about 850 cals. Don't get the steak skillet though...talk about tough as a wallet.

I was reading lately a lot of the chain restaurants make up the meals in a central location, freeze them, and send them out premade so they just have to be heated up once they reach the restaurant....saves a lot of labor costs.

We don't do too much cooking while in Florida. I told my wife I am going to sell the stove and make that area into my computer desk area.

Make fun of Denny's, but for under $10 I get bourbon chicken, with great tasting potatoes, onions, broccoli, red peppers, etc., I have been to places that cost 5X as much and the food wasn't as good.

I've seen every Super Bowl and there have been some truly great ones - but the last 30 minutes of this Super Bowl might be the best 30 minutes of football I've seen.  What Tom Brady and the Patriots did those last 30 minutes will be remembered by me for the rest of my life - not much could top this game - well maybe a Rolls Royce Ghost II - but not much else!

Hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did!   ;)

I have had good luck with Denny's restaurants. There is one close to me that is very good.

The Super Bowl did surprise me. 31 unanswered points, amazing. I was at a Super Bowl watch party, and drove home after the game. I should mention that my home is about 3 miles from NRG stadium where the Super Bowl was just played. Traffic was heavy getting home -- what a surprise!

It was unprecedented. Incredible game. Brady and the Patriots are undoubtedly the greatest of all time.

While I'm not terribly happy with the outcome, that was a great game. A tale of two halves - first went to the Falcons, the second to the Patriots.

When Atlanta went up 28-3, I thought it might be over. But NE kept chipping away and taking advantage of every opportunity presented to them.

A well played game, and the first OT Super Bowl.

I thought it was a great game.

It says a lot when a team is behind by 25 points and they can get their opponent to choke. Not even scoring a point in the second half is choking. They made a fool out of Matt Ryan. 3 sacks on third down and to be sure he wasn't sacked again on third down he decides to screw it up on second down by fumbling. The Falcons were afraid to play football, they just wanted the clock to run down but they couldn't even do that.

It looked to me like the Falcons just couldn't stop looking over their shoulders wondering when the Patriots were going to make their move. Even though they were looking they couldn't see it coming.

I think the Patriots sent a message to the rest of the NFL that you can't score enough points early to beat us. It should be interesting to watch the Patriots get in the heads of their opponents next year after they watched this Super Bowl.

If there is a better team than the Patriots or a better quarterback than Brady, I'm watching the wrong game of football.

I am almost thinking the game was fixed.....how could you make it any more exciting or unbelievable! You couldn't have planned a more exciting ending. and what a comeback.

In the first half Brady looked like he was paid to throw the game, missing passes and looked like he wasn't trying. Then, he does the impossible!

I may take my wife to Denny's tonight to celebrate! :D
