Needing the radio tuned for a particular driver and HVAC settings is beyond needing help. If you need help with anything after your buns hit the drivers seat, why not just hire someone to chaeuffer you around. I'd be ashamed to let anyone know I couldn't move my fingers to activate a feature.
As I have said before, my Genny has features I will never use. Talking to it to make things happen is at the very top of my "do not touch features list".
I just don't get it.

Another one is remote control devices, remember the old Jerrolds with a wire running to your TV. I think you slid the channel finder. I used to think who is so lazy they can't get out of their chair and change the channels on their tv set once an hour? You know where that thinking went. Things we think are toys today can be the things we will take for granted in the future.

When I got the XT5 loaner a couple of months ago I got in, put on my seatbelt, started the engine, and the car tried to kill me by moving the seat way forward while simultaneously putting the outside mirrors in a useless position. Memory was set for someone really tiny.
Memory setting functions like that really ought to be an option because they are only useful for multi-driver families. I suspect (but do not know) that most vehicles are typically driven by only one driver on a regular basis. But all buyers of vehicles with memory functions standard pay for it and likely most don't use them.

But seriously when I was a kid my family went to Northern Indiana for a vacation (yeah big time vacation going from Chicago to IN) and we went to eat at IIRC 7PM or so. The restaurant owner looked at us and said in no uncertain terms "Decent people have all eaten by now".

As to whether or not I NEED HELP with other parts of my life, I wouldn't mind a little - it sure isn't easy living alone or being in pain or going grocery shopping. But I haven't had much enjoyment out of life these past 10-15 years and it's nice to at least have some enjoyment when I get into my car and have a myriad of ENJOYABLE features that make my driving easier, safer and more relaxing. Maybe it's even an escapism for me - I don't know.
But I appreciate and respect your opinion regarding what you want or don't want in your car when you drive. All I ask is that you respect what other people want or don't want in their cars - and what I want or don't want in the cars that I drive.

As for power windows I have them, who doesn't, and I wouldn't want to be without them OR power seats. I even had them on my first new car, a '66 Bonneville, and was wondering when they would quit. I told the dealer to order a car just like the one we were dealing on but no power windows. He said he would give them to me at his cost because he didn't want to order a car. IIRC, my price was around $60 not the window option price of, I think, $104. Like I said I was waiting for them to quit but the only problem I had with them, although I only had the car for 2 years, was the right rear window came of the track and wouldn't go back up until I used a couple of thin sticks to wiggle the track back in place.
Some options are worth it to me but not the one where the radio preset comes on when the seats goes into my driving position.
A little story here and you might tune out but here goes:
Just today Son #1 brought his youngest son over to visit on the way back from his hockey game in the Burgh. Grandson #4 saw a yoyo in the family room and started to play with it. Almost got it to go up and down. I took if from him and showed him some of the tricks I learned when I was his age. He has seen me do this several times over the years and was impressed again. He said, "how did you learn how to do those tricks"? I told him when I was his age I didn't walk around with a "device" in my hands all day. But I admitted that if they had them when I was a kid I would have probably played with them too. To my surprise he said, "you had more fun when you were a kid". Now, does that mean he will not play with his "device" anymore? I'm not that dumb to think his world will change because he played with a yoyo today but I liked the way I grew up better.

While most rentals don't have the "gee whiz" features discussed here, even the simple stuff like the climate control and entertainment systems work in entirely different ways from one vehicle to another. Some are intuitive, most are not, at least in my experience.
I used to seek out Impalas because I didn't have to relearn every thing every time. There's nothing like trying to figure stuff out in the dark after a 9-hour day of travel. That doesn't work anymore because this year's Impala (or Malibu) probably has nothing in common with last year's.

Jmonroe wasn't really talking for me. If you enjoy that stuff and can afford it, go for it. Personally I find it distracting. Different strokes.
Oh, and just to show I'm not technophobic I just used the IPad to email photos of my damaged mailbox and reciept for replacement to the offenders insurance company. In the past I've mail disposable cameras or photos. Got a huge $50 check in the mail today.

I never thought of how valuable a remote control is when we have more than the original 13 channels, or even 25. Can you imagine turning the knob to get 1100 channels......it will be as large as the living room?

Maybe I should have said a normal able bodied younger generation person should not NEED that much help with their car. What they NEED is help for the part that sits above the shoulders.
It seems you like gadgets but we all know about the part above your shoulders so you are excused.

It's started snowing again and the forecast is for 6-10". Of course all the usual suspects flooded the supermarket this morning (our normal shopping time) for a mad frenzy. You would think we lived in Alaska and would be snowed in for weeks. Noticed many men shopping today. Wives must have played on hubby's ego to get him to battle with nature. They looked like lost lambs wandering about the store.
To keep this car related we were driving the PT with no ABS, no traction/stability control, no AWD and regular all season tires. No problem.

Lots of trucks.
I focused on just a few vehicles, giving them more than a cursory look.
-Volvo-surprise for me. V90 wagon. As always, Volvo makes some of the best automotive seats in the industry. The whole package is impressive. Interior was gorgeous. If you don't tow, but need that kind of room, the V90 would be at the very top of my shopping list.
-BMW-they had a 5 series with a rail around it so you couldn't look inside or sit in it. Not quite sure what that's all about given they're already at the dealerships. I guess it looked fine, from 6 feet away. No 3 series (their bread and butter) that I could see, nor a 2 series. As Walt mentioned, they had a goodly amount of electric cars represented. They had a 7 series at the very back of the display kind of sitting their lonesome. I sort of felt like "he people, nothing to see here, move on", which is too bad.
-Jag....still smitten with the XE/XF. Pretty cars, and I believe they're fairly priced. I know @laurasdada is a fan, as is my sister. But, not sure I want to jump into that end of the pool with the reliability history of Jag in this country. Some beautiful cars, though.
-Lexus-the IS350 F Sport is quite nice. Still feels cramped to me, though. Surprise of the booth was how much I liked the RX350 F-Sport. I don't know if I was in a Wagon mood or something else is pulling me towards it and the Volvo. But, the RX was comfy, very nicely finished, and it's a Lexus with that sort of reliability and service that I wished I could have. GS350 F Sport was nice, too. Given a choice, for a little less money, I'd probably swing towards the RX because of more utility that you'd get.
-Ford...only thing that interested me was the '18 Mustang. Better in person than the pics I saw. But, it was fenced in, so no touchy-feely. That said, they had a triple black '17 GT on the floor. I would have proposed to it if the state would allow a marriage between man and car. It just "oozed" performance. MSRP was reasonable, too ($41K). That's a whole lot of car for that money.
-Speaking of performance.....Dodge Challenger Scat Pack, although a little long in the tooth, would be a car I could really love. It's still contemporary, regardless of its now several year old iteration. It's big , brash and so totally un-PC, so what's not to like?
-Honda...honestly, I still haven't really changed my mind about the Accord Touring. It really does have it all....quick, all the features any car could possibly have, regardless of price, comfortable, well put together, and priced well under what you'd think. I know I keep saying the Acura TLX scares me, but I'll drive one to see if the transmission issue has been addressed. Again, for that type of money ($45K), I don't know if you could find another car with all the features, handling, performance you'd get in the SH AWD Advance. Plus, if the transmission issues are sorted, you are in for a reliable vehicle, too. They had a really pretty red one sitting on the show floor, too. Quite nice. They had an RL there. I don't know if you can even find one of those to buy, even though you might want one.
-Infiniti...wasn't really sure I'd like the Q50, but they had a Red Sport 400 that I liked. But, I think that one came with the steering system I didn't like. If I could find one with the hydraulic steering that I've heard is still available, I'd be interested.
The rest I just browsed. Couple of casual observations.....I can see why people like Subarus. They had a Wagon 3.6 that was quite nice. Their commecials must be working, as their vehicles were all being fawned over while I was there. Cadillac was at the very front. Lots of interest. I wanted to grab bull horn and yell "Caveat Emptor" to all of them. But, I'm a demure person.
VW....I went looking for a Golf R, but coudn't find one. Regardless of "diesel gate", people were flocking to their vehicles.
Mazda deserves better % of the car market. They continue to bring out products that are as nice, and as competitive as any out there.
Was there for two hours, and probably could have spent another hour there, but it was too crowded and I was hungry.
