The wife and I were at Lowes earlier this evening. When we left and were walking to my car, I suddenly realized I was by myself. She is not in to cars at all. She was standing next to a grey Q50 waiting for me to unlock the door.
So you think. That was a hint.

LOL. I don't know. Maybe an omen? The Fusion just turned 3 so it's about time. I've sort of been looking, but really like the Fusion. Perfect size, looks good, and is optioned just the way I want a car.

I know it's not the same, but have any of the enthusiasts here collected diecast cars in recent years?
I have a few from 15 or so years ago but found I get very little out of them. They just are something else to gather dust. I have enough stuff like that.
I had that Bond Aston, but in a bigger size. Not sure if it was 1/24, but I think a little smaller (but much bigger than Matchbox). Bought it in Bermuda sometime in the early 70s when I was there as a kid. Wish I still had it!

You are correct, but really - she doesn't know one car from another. I have passed her on the road that runs past our house and waved. She doesn't see me. She doesn't know what my car looks like because they all look alike to her.
When I suggested she needed a new Forester, she didn't know why since hers was running OK.
"OF Sounds like CL is just too risky for buying a car. If someone could devise a system so it could be kept honest then it would be worthwhile...no bargain is worth that kind of risk."
If someone devised a system like that it would probably be a scam too. Buying any used car, ANYWHERE is a gamble because we don't really know how a car was treated. Some like you always go to a dealer and buy CPO. That gives you some insurance against short term failures. Others don't want to pay the extra price for that.
CL has always been a bargain bin and you have to check things out carefully. I've developed a few tricks to weed out the obvious scams like looking at the background of photos to see if there are palm trees for a local car or if the listed phone number appears in multiple ads. CarFaxs, independent mechanic inspection, and sizing up the owner also help.
Bottom line: nobody ever sold a used car because it was running TOO good.

Think most dealerships have signs saying to not leave any personal stuff in your vehicle as "they are not responsible"! I see it at every dealership we go to. A shame no one emptied the c d player but that's just another life lesson learned. Luckily you had copies. But for anyone to think that the dealership should give any form of restitution, ain't gonna happen! Look at places like car washes and similar places and you'll find similar signage about not being responsible for a list of stuff. That's just the way it is now.

As an attorney once told me about such signs, "They can SAY they're not responsible. It doesn't mean that they AREN'T."
Those signs are just as meaningful as the signs on the back of dump trucks saying "Not responsible for rocks thrown from road" and "Stay back 300 feet." Those are attempts to scare people away from going after them for the rocks dropped _from_ their trucks whether you're 300 feet back or not.
There is constant construction on the OSU campus and I noticed in Columbus City that dump trucks carrying gravel or debris stop before getting on the freeway past The Ohio State campus and sweep gravel off the side rails and other parts of their trucks before hitting the higher speeds. Apparently Columbus Police enforce the responsibility and accountability.

I use those signs as education really. Never leave anything that I'd mind losing in any vehicle that goes in for service. Things that I don't care about, stay...and have always been there when I get the vehicle back. Just easier to take my valuable things out so they do not get lost as some things are not replaceable. Have instilled this same philosophy in the kids also, they seemed to have listened to me on that one!

Sign or not, often the reality is it is not enough of a damage or theft claim to get adequate, if any, legal recourse considering litigation costs and the fact that many lawyers won't take a small case. Sure, you can go to small claims court and maybe win, but collecting the the compensation is in your lap, not the small claims court - so often just a pyric victory for your time and effort.
Best thing to do is just take everything of any personal value out of the vehicle before it leaves the house. Stick it all in a bag and replace once vehicle comes back home. Being proactive is always the smart thing to do because no one takes as good care of your stuff like you. Anyways, found it's a good thing to purge my vehicle once a month to get rid of stuff that I've left in there that needs to be put away. Since it's only me 95% of the time, an easy job. Since I've got more miles now than the wife's Audi, want to even things up a bit since she bought hers first and have a feeling hers might go first also. It's still an appliance to her, a nice one, but she just needs it to work every time she starts it up. Once it starts to strand her, she'll call me to search for a replacement and give her a short list.

Well done summary of used car buying OF but some used cars are pretty good. The 2013 Passat we traded in was perfect in every way, if you didn't mind the lack of power and stability on the highway.
If you are going to spend $10000 or more on a used car I would rather pay the 10 to 20% more and buy it from a respected dealer. There are a million things that could be wrong with a used car, from being in a flood to be totally rebuilt.
I have seen people on the judge shows...they buy a car for $3000, it has 200000 miles on it, and they wonder why it stopped running.
I am home now btw....flew back this afternoon. 2 1/2 days by car, 21/2 hours by plane. I am supposed to pick up the new E400 tomorrow....I'll let you know how it goes.

After driving back from Pigeon Forge over the Cumberlands on Wednesday, I can appreciate more why you welcome flying rather than driving. This was the first time I ran into the slow obnoxious drivers, some snow birds, north of Knoxville. A pickup truck pulling a 30 foot trailer, e.g.. The truckers were aggravated with the friction in the traffic caused by the small portion of drivers with FL, Ontario, Michigan, OH, Indiana plates.
When I hit the Kentucky border it was smooth sailing. I must have been ahead of the majority of birds who had overnighted somewhere from Atlanta to Knoxville.
I breezed past 2 KY state cops at 77 and 78 mph, over the 70 mph. Not a flinch. I didn't notice them until I was already close because of the car color and location they had picked.

That is about as far as you can get the first day. I hear it was bumper to bumper on I-75 leaving Florida on Fiday and Saturday. A lot of people leave when their monthly rent expires, on the 31st or the 1st of the month.
The trailers with those little tiny skinny tires scare me, and the big RVs that have the wheels about a foot inside the wheel wells, and there is a lot of overhang on the sides...looks really unstable.
Cops leave you alone up to 80.........I try to stay under 78. Nice not to have to worry, if you see them you just wave to them.
